    Spicy pho
    Susan B.

Came in on the carnaval weekend and we had this restaurant to ourselves. Sit at your table, scan the menu and complete your order. There was one man at the counter, and he seemed to disappear into the back for stretches at a time. Was he also cooking? When he brought out my soup and chicken, he literally tossed the dishes onto the table, making them crash into each other. The pop corn chicken was not as crispy as I would have liked and while my (very large)soup was good, I was underwhelmed with the spice. It was the first time I had pho with the vegetables and herbs already in my soup. The dumplings were very good.

Solid 3.5 - tried this Vietnamese place and was pleasantly surprised. The chicken pho was decent - had a good amount of moist shredded chicken. The noodles were fatter than usual pho but that is preferred. The soup was NOT too salty and I did not feel super tired afterward - so possibly low on MSG. The bean sprouts were already added under the noodles so you did not have to put them in yourself -which I prefer as well. I would come back to try other noodle soups. We also tried the tofu banh mi. The bread was nice - crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. The tofu was soft and had decent flavor. Will try again!

I came by myself on a Saturday afternoon and figured I'd give this restaurant a chance. The store was mostly empty and I ordered through a kiosk. The kiosk ordering threw me off a bit, because the rest of the restaurant isn't self serve -- there are no fountains of water, no general area with utensils/napkins, and nowhere to bus dishes. Given that you can't self serve, the service did not meet my expectations. I wasn't given water until being seated for around 10 minutes, and upon my pho being served, I was only given a soup spoon without napkins or a fork/chopsticks. As for sides, I was given a sad collection of jalapeños and no bean sprouts or mints, which usually comes with pho. The tables had only oyster sauce and sriracha, and there were no sauce bowls. The noodles were also slightly thicker than what I typically get at a pho restaurant. The taste of the pho was good, however, and the pan fried bao were very juicy and full of flavor. I do think the pan fried bao were on the pricey side averaging around $2 per bao, so I most likely won't get it again. The owners aren't Vietnamese (as far as I observed) which may explain the fusion items on the menu as well as the lack of typical items in a Pho restaurant. I probably won't be back, but if you're in a pinch for some pho, this place will scratch the itch.

My coworker and I decided to try out What Da Pho, simply based on the reviews and the name. We arrived and noticed that there is a kiosk that takes your order, no real interaction with the staff which is pretty odd. I guess that's the way things are going these days. I ordered the Beef Stew Pho and my friend ordered the Beef Noodle Pho. We also ordered an order of soup dumplings. We both liked our soups, but the soup dumplings were not great, just kinda average and not too juicy. Overall we liked the Pho and will be back, but will try the other appetizer items instead. There is a parking lot that is nearby that is reasonable, if you can't find immediate parking outside.

Wtf? It was a cold chilly evening and I was craving a warm bowl of pho. Walked in and it was a bit confusing whether we should order or sit first, but found an open table and used the QR code to order. We got the pan fried Bao to split, and I ordered the HK Wonton Noodle Soup. The Bao were amazing, and I would definitely get them again. The pho was alright, but slightly lacking in flavor. It was also extremely hot and I burnt my tongue :( whoops. The service was mediocre, and my biggest complaint is that they leave the front door wide open, so the entire time I was just sitting there freezing cold. Also it was so quiet and the vibes felt a bit off because of how quiet it was - I would recommend playing some music or something! Overall solid pho option but not the greatest place ever.

Solid pho spot in the neighborhood and a super short walk from my apartment. The ordering process is automated. You choose what you want on the touch screen menu and pay right there. It's a smaller space but there's plenty of seating. I ordered the beef stew pho. This is one that I have never tried before but I thought "why not" since it was cold and I wanted something extra comforting. I really enjoyed the beef stew pho! It was very flavorful. Everything had great texture - the carrots, the beef, and the noodles. None of that pho got wasted. I also tried the shrimp fried rice. It was pretty good. I could go without the shrimp and just eat the rice. I'd love to try more of the menu. If you dine in, don't order bottled water. There is complimentary tap water!

Once again an Autumn stroll in the Mission District back where it all began for me. Autumn is the restart of Pho season .Back in the neighborhood there were a few places to grab Pho in the Mission . My most common and convenient spot years ago was Sunflower on Valencia and now on 16th street. Over the years there has been a few places in the Mission for Pho and it started to sprout good places like Bac Lieu and Thanh Tam 2 . I went to the new to me spot on 22nd street between Mission and Bartlett which had the same question I had when I looked at their menu " Wha Da Pho"? The menu at Wha Da Pho has both Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine. I was looking for the more traditional thinner noodles for my Pho Ga and Wha Da Pho didn't have them. They only had the thicker noodles , so I went into the Chinese menu and asked for an egg noodle for my Pho Ga ( trying an experiment). A pleasant surprise the Pho Ga with the egg noodles combination actually was tasty and slurp worthy. The chicken was soft and broth had good flavor. It's good to have a place where you can have both a Beef stew , Chicken Pho and Shrimp Dumpling at Wa da Pho in SF. You can get soup dumplings and other dishes that are Chinese Have the pho and some cuisine in the Mission at Wa Da Pho that's Vietnamese

    Spicy Hue Vermicelli
    Johnna C.

The Spicy Hue Vermicelli is the best pho I've ever had. I've ordered it several times recently and every time the flavors are impeccable and ingredients are superb quality. It's bare minimum on service but it's super easy to order on your phone, the food always arrives fast & piping hot and the staff are friendly. A hidden gem if you're ordering out or don't need a vibey atmosphere with the meal.

    aug 26, 2023 - beef pho combo; 3/5
    Fanny W.

Cheap, casual eats is how I'd describe John's Kitchen #2. Pros: + Affordable prices + Friendly staff Cons: - Not that flavorful What I Ordered: + Beef Pho Combo; 3/5 - Popcorn Chicken; 1/5 The BEEF PHO COMBO lacks a rich pho broth flavor, but the beef was tender and chunky, and the noodles were flat and medium. It's decent. The POPCORN CHICKEN is awful. My partner ordered this two weeks ago, and when he offered me some...let's just say he learned something new about me that day. I don't mess around when it comes to my food. I'm not like him; I'm no good at tolerating not-so-tasty foods. I'm not sure if I'd return. It's decent, it's convenient, and it's cheap. That popcorn chicken really ruined me. It's so rare to have bad popcorn chicken from an Asian restaurant. :\

    James L.

This place is legit, came for dinner around 630. We each got the rib eye pho, which is 10/10. Everything about the bowl of pho was super flavorful. Everything but the jalapeno and lime comes in the bowl, good job for those who can't handle spicy. The shrimp spring roll was really good, especially with the peanut dipping sauce. Also 10/10. Hong Milk tea is quite tasty. Ambience is nice and clean. There's slow jazzy music which adds to the chill vibes. I have only good things to say about this place and wish them much success. We will be back!

Be careful that you're not being ripped off by the server. I dropped into What Da Pho on a quiet Friday mid-afternoon for a pho (10/10/2025). I was the only customer. For this time of day the restaurant offers a discount; Half price. That's a good deal. Except, when it came to paying for my discount pho. The discounted price appeared on the display and it was then changed by the server to the full price. I enquired why it changed to the full price and the sever told me the the discount price was a mistake. I had the sense forethought to take a screenshot of the discount offered at the time I placed my order and showed it to the server. The server, knowing that he'd been caught lying, glumly corrected the total without offering an apology. My guess is that that the server thought a tourist wouldn't question his deception. To the server: think about the choices you make in life. Best of luck. For everybody else: Beware.

I highly recommend trying this dish if you haven't done so! 3/5 - Pho with chicken. The charbroiled beef had the smallest hint of sweetness for me. The noodles had a nice chew to them, and were dry but in the best way possible. A lot of garlic noodles tend to be too oily and leave an unpleasant lingering mouthfeel, but that wasn't the case here. The noodles could have used more garlic for my preference, but I think it was well balanced with the flavorful protein and fish sauce. The imperial rolls were okay and a nice crunchy side. I wouldn't get them as a separate appetizer, but only $1 more to add to your dish is unbeatable. Overall a great experience and I'd definitely bring some friends here for a comforting meal.

I've given this place multiple chances over the years, but unfortunately each experience has been uncomfortable in one way or another. The first time was around 2022. My family and I arrived about 30 minutes before closing, and the owner told us he would still serve us. After seating us, though, he immediately pressured us to order quickly and told us we had to eat fast because they were closing. I was with my elderly relatives too so just turn us away? If that was the case, it would've been better to simply not seat us. Don't be greedy just bc you want a few bucks. Another time, my husband called to order Hanoi-style pho to go, and the owner responded with unnecessary attitude, saying that's the only kind they serve. LOL, ok. The interaction felt rude for no reason. Most recently, we came on Mother's Day. The dishwasher/staff member was also unfriendly. The bun cha was decent according to my mom, and my husband said the beef stew noodle dish was okay, but my pho lacked flavor entirely. I wasn't expecting it to compare to pho in Vietnam or even San Jose, but it tasted very bland so I didn't finish it. The service from the owner continues to be the biggest issue. When we paid, he stood over us while I counted cash, so I felt pressure to count fast and add tip quickly. He left then came back a few seconds later then quickly grabbed the money without even asking whether I needed change and disappeared faster than the wind. The whole interaction felt awkward and pushy. He has a very strange personality. After several experiences like this, we won't be returning.
