I would give this place an overall 3.5 stars. Went on a recent Friday night for an anniversary dinner. Walked in and had no idea what to do. No hostess stand, so "entry", you walk directly into the dining space. We were greeted pretty quickly but the awkwardness was not a great intro to the place. We had reservations but the table was not ready when we arrived. Normally this is not an issue but with Westchester, it is. The restaurant is so small that there is nothing you can really do if you can't sit right away. They have a decent sized bar but every seat was taken. All tables were filled except the large booths in the front. Our only option was to sit outside to wait. If weather is not good, this is a very unpleasant option. Although they seemed really apologetic about having us sit on the "patio" (sidewalk in front with a beautiful view of the parking lot), it took a surprisingly long time to get someone out to take drink orders. I was happy to see thoughtfully created mocktails on the menu so I ordered a Frank Zappa. It was supposed to resemble a mojito. It did not resemble a mojito. There was not a hint of mint flavor and it was very bitter. I feel like the only flavor was the tonic. I struggled to drink it and was only able to finish it very slowly throughout my meal as the ice melted and watered it down. As with most places that serve mocktails, it was very expensive for what you get. I didn't see bottle prices on the menu, only by the glass, and those prices were very high and pour was not generous enough in return. When you are paying $20 for a single glass of wine, it should be a darn hefty pour or a really high-quality wine, and it was neither. We waited about 15 min outside while waiting for our table. This was kind of a downer when we were anticipating a high-end special event dinner. The decor and feel of the place is lovely. It's dark and moody with very nice details like copper ceilings and lovely light fixtures. The put a lot of care into the selections and it is really beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful and once we were inside, the service was very attentive. It was very loud and the space is small, so you are very close to your dining companions on all sides. Although we specified we were celebrating an anniversary on our reservation, it was not acknowledged at any point during our meal. The menu must change regularly because the dish I was looking forward to from seeing it online was no longer on the in-house restaurant. They also have a long, complicated list of specials. If you are going to have enough specials for a 5 minute speech from the server, maybe you should just print your menu out daily. We ended up ordering from the regular menu and got onion soup, salad, rib chop, and filet. The bread service was 2 little bread nuggets, I feel like probably house made. They were tasty and flaky and they offered to bring more, but it was strange to get a full bread basket for 2 tiny lumps. The butter was flavored and a little sweet. Onion soup was good but not great. They use their tiny, cubed salad croutons in the soup and there were too many in the bowl. The onions weren't quite as melty as they should have been. The broth and cheese were both good. Salad was gigantic, way out of proportion for a fine dining experience, and pretty basic. Croutons, tomatoes, cucumber, and chipped carrots with feta. Felt like an odd combo. Very strange dressing options. Who on earth would pick blue cheese dressing for a salad covered in feta? Balsamic dressing tasted good but was as thick as mayo, which was off-putting. They really need to reduce the size and add more unique toppings to their salad. Entrees were plated beautifully. The rib chop came with sweet potato puree and filet came with whipped potatoes. They didn't ask me how I wanted my chop prepared, but it was a very nice medium, almost medium rare. I think it would be appropriate to ask because not everyone can handle pork cooked this way. The sweet potato puree was wonderful with the pork, but there was a mound of what appeared to be shredded kale on the plate as well, and it was a little too bitter to play nicely with the rest of the plate. The filet was cooked to a perfect medium but the whipped potatoes needed salt, and that kale was even more bitter with the plain whipped potatoes than with the sweet potato. I would rate the chop really highly, but the steak was middle of the road compared to other fine dining options in the area. I will probably not return to Westchester. Although the entrees were very good, there were too many strange aspects of the evening that make me feel uncomfortable. The waitress said they are expanding next door, so we may try again once that expansion is done. read more

Good atmosphere and service but the food was average at best. The Seafood stew did not have much seafood including only 4 small mussels and the smallest crab fingers I have ever seen. They should eliminate the crab and add more shrimp and some type of whitefish. The Shrimp and Grits did not have a lot of flavor. read more

We received excellent service for a party of at least 10 and the food was good. The seafood stew was the star of our dinner table. I ordered the burger and it was good. The yelp reviews convinced us to have lunch at Westchester. Our cocktails were tasty and we opted for the tomato soup our server highly recommended. The soup was topped with grill cheese croutons. This tomato soup reigns as my all time favorite tomato soup and loved the croutons. I had the sirloin tacos (tacos of the day) and he had the french dip. My tacos were good but needed a little more heat. His french dip was hot, juicy, had lots of flavor. Their prices are high and this is my only complaint. read more

Westchester is a new restaurant that has opened between chesterfield valley and the outlet mall. It has a higher end feel, wine glasses at every table, very clean with a darker decor. Great for date night! We ordered the a red ipa, classic burger, their onion soup, fries, and the Westchester pasta. Food came with complimentary ciabatta and butter. Burger is very clean, big, delicious, looks like a broiled cheese on top of the bun. We had the soup on the same plate so we had to move the burger to another plate to make sure the bun didn't get soggy. Onion soup was great, melted gruyere cheese on top, lots of carmelized onions and bread crumbs inside. Pasta was awesome as well, a hint of spiciness in the sauce, with delicious vegetables sausage and chicken. Fries were nice, crispy, and seasoned well. Shared the Crispy Buttonwood Farm Chicken Sandwich and Westchester Smashburger. My vote today was for the Chicken, which was tender, juicy and fried just right, served on a fresh brioche bun with melted Cheddar, Hot honey aioli, and lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles - perfect and filling! The Smashburger was traditional, 2 fresh patties with American cheese, lettuce tomato, pickles and special sauce; it was good, but next time I'll try their Classic Burger that has choice of cheese and house bacon. The Caesar and House Salads as sides were fresh and delicious, especially the Caesar dressing which was rich and tasty. Started with a small cup of French Onion Soup. This was one of the best I've had with heavy broth, chunks of onion and croutons and topped with melted Gruyère - YUM, a bowl of this could make a meal! Well done Chef Matt! Open seating at the bar, but they do take limited reservations for dinners; note current hours only Wed-Sun 11a-11p (food 'til 10p). We sampled one of the chef's soups at an event at the Four Seasons a few months back and wanted to try the rest of the their food! The food was pretty good! Oysters were fresh, burger was tasty. First experience has us excited to go back! The menu is relatively small but that's because it is all delicious. We showed up without reservations but were able to get seats at the bar where we had drinks and dinner. Appetizers - onion soup (you can order just a cup and it was yummy); pork belly had great flavor was a big portion especially for an appetizer. Dinner - I got the burger which was full of flavor and big portion with amazing fries; husband got the halibut which he said was great. Drinks - I got the Off Broadway and hubs the Troubador. Convivial bar scene with food and drink specials, including $2 off cocktails and beer and 30% off wines (by the glass). The French 75 that I ordered was artfully presented, and the barware itself is striking. I'm firmly of the opinion that a person eats first with their eyes, so the surroundings here are definitely a plus in that department - clean and sleek. Although the scallops that I ordered to eat were off of the dinner menu, and not the happy hour menu, the servers were happy to oblige my request. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere however we arrived for a 5:15 reservation and were told we had the table for the night. We were a group of ladies who wanted to order plenty of wine and stay for a while. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered the Crab toast, roasted cauliflower mezzaluna and Pan roasted halibut and mushroom parpadelle. All the dishes were just ok. The parpadelle was on the dry side. At 6:30 we were told by the manager/Maitre d' that we needed to leave by 7 because they had another reservation and they needed the table. Needless to say, we were very disappointed and will likely never return to this establishment due to this first impression. The waitress was nice enough but couldn't do anything about it. read more

Ordered the crab toast with duck fat and herbed cream as a small plate. Decadent, creamy and delicious. The pullman loaf was perfectly toasted. It came with dry mixed greens in the middle and I only wish there was some sort of dressing on them. The classic burger was great. thick bacon, fluffy brioche bun. I asked for a spicy or garlic aioli and they only had a whole grain mustard aioli at the time. I was there at an odd time (4pm on a Sat) so only half the lunch menu was available while they prepped for dinner. Next time, I will go after 5:00 to catch the duck breast or filet mignon. Fabulous brand new restaurant, just opened to the public the day before our reservation. Service was excellent with an attentive server, and pace was comfortable, conversational, & not at all rushed. Beautiful, classy decor that was restful to the eye. The unique tapered table lamps from a distance resemble candlesticks, adding an appealing ambiance. Overhead lamps and wire basket shades cast a soft light for a quiet or intimate dinner, or a simple reunion of friends. It certainly has an upscale vibe in its location in an above average strip mall in Chesterfield Valley. My friend & I both ordered the onion soup as an appetizer, which was so pretty we dove in without pausing to capture a photo. It was a wonderful warm up for the palette. Next, I enjoyed the tender Duck Breast (chock full of flavor & seasonal vegetable hash & parsnip purée)...excellent! It was as tender as a medium rare tenderloin. My friend had the Pan Roasted Buttonwood Farm Chicken, which was also beautifully presented. One of the founders, John, visited our table and asked how everything was, & we happily raved. The bar manager, Bryan, & chef Matt, have crafted some delightful menu items; go check it out! Desserts included Clementine's specialty ice creams, but we did not indulge on this visit. Everything here tonight was fabulous. Wednesdays are wine Wednesday. 25% off bottles of wine. Great deal. We started with the Morel mushrooms appetizer. So good. Served hot, easily shared by two, different, loved it. My husband had the Filet mignon as main course, I had the tuna sashimi. His steak came perfectly prepared , hot, vegetables and potatoes were hot( so rare) everything was perfect. The quality and taste of my tuna was amazing. The service was spot on. The ambiance is great. It is darkly lush. The wait staff is typically great. The most recent time we went the host told my group (all women) while we were still waiting for our cocktails that we should order soon because our table had another reservation at 7. Then he kept glaring at us. We apologized to the waitress that apparently we were going to go long and that was a problem. She apologized for the host even as he interrupted and argued. It was odd. I have been to Westchester 7 or 8 times and all prior experiences were very good. The food is very good as are the cocktails and wine list. I had the onion soup and filet. Both were great. All of our cocktails were well crafted. The Baby Blue wine was a great complement to the food. I highly recommend the chocolate cake. It is a perfectly balanced dessert. read more

This was our first visit. The food was fantastic. We look for hidden gems that serve marvelous twists to old stand-bys. The yellow tomato soup was very tasteful and I enjoyed it a lot. (I wonder if chef thought of serving it cold also?) I had the lunch tacos. They were very filling and had a great mix of flavors without too much heat to hide the spice mixtures. The steak taco meat was just the right texture. Everything was farm to table and tasted that fresh. The service was efficient and our server didn't rush us. She was very pleasant and shared information when we asked about the menu, hours, reservations and such. We had a late lunch so the atmosphere was quiet and comfortable. We tried this restaurant while in town for another event. We enjoyed our lunch of clam soup, the Caesar salad, the house salad with chicken and the smash burger. One drawback is they do not have a lunch menu, you are choosing lunch items from the only menu they offer, dinner. Our bill for 3 , with water, ice tea and a mocktail was $108. That seems high for a lunch. That being said, the food was good. Service was attentive. Give them a try. read more

What a great lunch. Fried bologna sandwich on a soft brioche bun was incredible. The bologna is house smoked and sliced so thin it is basically shaved. bacon jam, melty American cheese, and a fried egg (soft yolk) make this an umami explosion. The side cup of their Westchester onion soup (basically French onion soup) was also richly flavored - generous in both cheese and caramelized onion, The wife's heirloom tomato BLT was huge with a chewy bacon and peppercorn aoli that she said both gave a lot of flavor. The bread (Companion sourdough) was also very good. Her side was the duck fat truffle fries. I generally don't care a lot for truffle, but these were semi-restrained in the truffle level so that it was enjoyably present and not overwhelming. And again it was a huge amount. Three types of dipping sauce were provided - spicy catsup, peppercorn aoli (like what was on the sandwich), and a southwest style creamy sauce. Everything here was delicious, and our waitress was excellent, friendly, and attentive. read more

It has been a while since I have had a restaurant meal to rave about. We went last minute, without reservations. They had a full house, so we had dinner seated at the bar. Great experience. Small, casual, cozy atmosphere. Great service. Well made craft cocktails (amazing dirty martini). All that said, the real winner was the food. Exceptional. I had the roasted duck breast over veggies. Melt in your mouth, cooked perfectly. Incredible flavors. Hubby had the filet mignon, which he loved as well. He said it was also perfectly cooked and a great quality steak.
