We have been bringing our cars to Abet since he worked down the street from us at Rock Creek Exxon in Adams Morgan, because he provides great service of an excellent price, and never tries to pad the bill with unnecessary services as happens with many auto mechanics. Just like you do with a good hairdresser, you will follow your trusted mechanic wherever he goes!…read more I am (mis)fortunate to own a Jeep Grand Cherokee that is getting older and showing its age by breaking down more frequently. In this situation, it's key to have an excellent mechanic. My husband and I have been going to Abed for nearly 12 years and have yet to be disappointed. This crew used to be in Adam's Morgan, but moved up here to the NW of Tenleytown, Cathedral Heights, American University Neighborhoods. It's incredibly convenient with the Tenleytown Metro a few blocks away, so you can drop your car/truck off and head to the metro to/from work while they work magic on your car! Abed and his team are skilled mechanics and knows cars; this auto repair shop won't take you to the cleaners like a dealership or some of the other places would. Fixing a broken car is expensive to begin with, but this team does it right and are exceptionally reasonable. Sure the shop is a little dirty, but like a good diner, the service and product are excellent! I send all my girlfriends there without a fear that they're going to be taken advantage of. Fellas, you would enjoy talking cars with any of the crew there too! This is a place I would send my grandmother to and know she would be taken care of. They fix your car and get you on down the highway with money still in your pocket for a nice meal in the neighborhood!

I brought my 2021 Audi Q5 to the Shell station on P St., NW in Dupont Circle after it developed a…read moresevere coolant leak 1-block away. I was understandably concerned because coolant was pouring out from underneath the vehicle. T.J. (the lead mechanic) charged me $168 for a diagnosis and told me that the water pump had failed. I was specifically told that the cooling system had been pressure-tested and that the water pump was the source of the leak. Based on that diagnosis, I was advised not to drive the car and ultimately had to arrange for the vehicle to be towed to Audi. Audi Annapolis subsequently inspected the vehicle and determined that the water pump was not the problem. The actual failure was a faulty pressure-release valve in the coolant reservoir cap -- a $33 part. The Audi technician showed me a video of the faulty cap and the subsequent pressure test demonstrating that the system held pressure after the cap was replaced. The car has been running perfectly since. The incorrect diagnosis cost me not only the $168 diagnostic fee, but also roughly another $400 in towing, transportation, and additional diagnostic/repair costs that would not have been necessary had the problem been correctly identified in the first place. Mistakes happen, but telling a customer that a component has been identified through a pressure test when it turns out not to be the source of the leak is a serious concern. I would have been much more understanding if I had simply been told that the water pump was a suspicion rather than a confirmed diagnosis. $33 cap. $168 diagnosis. $400+ additional expense. I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion before authorizing any significant repair based on a diagnosis from this shop.

Came in for some gas at 8AM, so not the crack of dawn. This station primarily does a cash business,…read moreas the gas is priced cheaper that way. Came into the store to pay. I had 100$, as my car often requires around 50-60$ to fill up. No one was at the counter. When the man arrived, I told him I needed 50$. He laughed in my face and began to tell me how stupid I was that I would attempt to pay with a 100$ bill. I said I need 50$ of gas, so this is how I usually pay. He began to berate me over and over again about how he had no change, how it was early and how would I think he would have change yet, didn't even open the register. In the end I found 20$ in my wallet, which didn't even fill me up halfway, and I left extremely upset after being laughed at and yelled at by the attendant. 1) If you are primarily running a cash business -- which is why people visit this station for the most part in particular-- you must have change on hand at opening and at all times throughout the day. I don't care if it's the morning, this is your business operation. 2) It is extremely rude to be yelled at for literally trying to give YOU MONEY. Disgusting. I won't ever be back and will find a new cash station. I've never had this happen at this station in the many years I've come, and usually it's a very nice man or woman as the attendant. I've never seen this man before, and he seemed enraged he even had to come do his job.
