This is the new business location for Abet Humeiti, formerly with Tenleytown Auto Services in the 4200 block of Wisconsin. We have been bringing our cars to Abet since he worked down the street from us at Rock Creek Exxon in Adams Morgan, because he provides great service of an excellent price, and never tries to pad the bill with unnecessary services as happens with many auto mechanics. Yesterday we needed only the periodic service on our 3 year-old-car, plus a minor repair, and walked away with a bill of less than $120. A very little gas station that needs an updated look. The staff is very friendly here and helpful for my daughter and thus I like them for that. My biggest issue is the tight space and dilapidated look but for gas it will work and is on the way for me usually. read more

My car stalled at the traffic light next to this gas station so obviously I pushed my car there. Abet and Jermaine charged me $100 to diagnose my car needing a fuel pump replacement. They quoted me $506 to do the job. I told them I did not have that in my budget presently, they told me they would take 1/2 hour off the labor which would make it $440. I told them I still could not afford that price, they said their parts distributor would give them a 3% discount so the best they could do for me was $436. Wow, I still declined. Throughout the entire conversation I made it known that i had no problem having my car towed to my house in silver spring and letting it sit in my driveway until I had the funds to fix it, because I have another vehicle that I drive to and from work. As I'm gathering a few things from inside the car while I'm waiting for the tow truck to arrive, they came to my car and told me that if I go get the fuel pump from Autozone they would do the job in 1 hour for $125. Hey, that's great ! I thought and agreed to it, not realizing that I fell for their scam. You see, even if I had bought the most expensive fuel pump on the market, it should not cost $506 to do the job. All they do is lift up the back seat to access the fuel tank, no more than a 20 minute job. I later called 2 other repair shops in silver spring and received considerably cheaper quotes. At the time I honestly did not think anything about the fact that they dropped from their initial quote of about $500 to $125. While driving home, about 15 minutes after paying and picking up my car, it stalled out ! Of course I immediately call Abet and he sends Jermaine to the location where I broke down. Jermaine arrives at my location but did not bring any tools what so ever so that he could properly diagnose why my car stalled after he was supposed to have replaced the fuel pump. He claimed that the fuel pump was not even on, which he did not understand because he had my car running fine and burning gas for an hour after he installed the new pump. So I had to wait for him to go back to the shop and get proper tools. When he came back with his tools he took out the fuel pump and realized that 2 of the electrical connectors wire had came undone. He twisted the wires together, put the pump back in the gas tank and the car started and an ran fine. Again, about 10 - 15 minutes after I'm driving, the car stalls out again ! I call Abed back and they claim that I need to have my car towed back to their shop. They must not know how expensive it is to have a car towed. No thank you ! They improperly diagnosed my car or improperly installed the fuel pump. Either way I did not want to take my car back to them. So I had to tow my car to a different shop and pay again to have it repaired. Beware, especially of Jermaine ! I had an absolutely horrible experience with them. read more

During all of the construction in the area I accidentally hit a curb and took a nice chunk out of a tire, which also partially deflated. I was worried that it would not hold air and hobbled into this shell to fill it. A guy waiting on his Porsche repairs said, "Let Jim look at it, he's the best and most honest mechanic in DC/MD/VA, I take all of my cars here and he's underrated". So I waited two seconds for Jim to pop out and he took full control of the situation and filled the tire. Instead of telling me I needed a new tire and rim he told me I had just missed that by a hair and was good to go no charge, Sweet...so I decided to go back to him if need be in the future. Jump to the future and the temperature control knob was sticking in my Altima on the first coldest day, so of course I did the worst thing and forced it. I love the sound of a good dash explosion in the morning. I took it to the closest place to my home and they wanted $300 just to fix the knob, if that was it....rip off I read afterwards all over the internet. I took it back to Jim and he looked at it right away and tried all the quick fixes possible with no luck. I didn't tell him but I took the dash apart myself so knew he wasn't lying. He kept the car for a few hours only before calling to say that the cord that opens and closes the temp doors had frozen and I broke it by force. He said that I could fix that by summer but he was able to keep the door open and give me heat for the rest of the winter....and boy did he !! I can still control everything but the temp (don't need to) and just missed frostbite on my feet. $120 bucks out the door and he even "pre-inspected" my car for VA. I called to get a quote for a blower motor replacement and the person who answered the phone didn't know what I was talking about. After I repeatedly said it wasn't the AC compressor, he called his colleague to the phone and called me crazy in the process. Guess those two other mechanics and autozone must be wrong in thinking there's a part called a blower motor. Not giving my business to someplace unknowledgeable and disrespectful. read more

Long story short I drove into Washington DC. and my brakes were failing horribly. I looked on yelp for a place that was close with good reviews and this Shell station showed up and only 5 minutes from my location. There I met Mike who said he would get me going so I could drive back up the coast that evening, this was at 2 pm. Mike worked hard to get parts and get me going. He stayed until l almost 9pm to make sure I was able to head home, they close at 6pm. He put in the extra miles, and got me on my way. A couple weeks ago, I punctured my tire and desperately needed a replacement quickly! I called a few places: one wasn't helpful, and one was great but didn't have what I needed. They suggested I call this Shell, and when I did, I spoke to Jim, the kindest car mechanic who looked through his tire inventory, found the size I needed and told me to come as soon as I could. I arrived about 45 minutes later and Jim had the tire ready. He helped me immediately, and the entire time, told me what he was doing and why. I learned a lot and now feel I can advocate better on future tire help I need. He charged me an unbelievably fair price too. The truck came and recommend me to the Wisconsin Ave Shell in Tenley Town for repairs on my car and also offered me a 10% discount since I was a geico customer. Reading the other reviews, it seems like this place is the local rescue station for people with flat tires. We had a flat while I was driving my wife home from a surgical procedure. She was still recovering from sedation and needed my full attention. A couple of teenagers walking by kindly agreed to walk back two blocks to this Shell station to see if someone would help. A few minutes later, an employee from the service station (the manager?) drove up with a wrench and hydraulic jack. He had our flat changed in less than 5 minutes (probably less than 3 actually--he was that fast), and then asked us to follow him back to the station so that he could check the air pressure in our spare. Satisfied that the spare would get us home safely, he sent us on our way--even refusing an offer to pay, though I tipped him anyway. This place deserves all the great reviews. We don't live in the neighborhood, but I plan to stop there for gas every chance I get. read more

Took a used vehicle we were purchasing for a pre purchase inspection. The car was late being ready, which was the least of our concerns. The mechanic didn't want to take the time following the inspection, to go over the issues with the vehicle. He was abrupt, rude, and condescending. He checked a few boxes on a sheet and told me to look at the sheet. Visiting this station was a COMPLETE waste of money, and we had to take the vehicle to another service station which was more thorough, efficient and communicative.
