Started by two veterans, Compass has weathered some bumpy roads over the last few years with leadership, splits, and unions. That said, this location is quite large. Ironically, it's close to a Starbucks in Spring Valley in Northwest D.C. Walk inside and order a pastry or one of their many coffees. Their almond butter latte is among my favorites. The actual space is large with plenty of seats from tables, booth seating, to high top tables. There are plenty of outlets and strong free WiFi. Restrooms are in the very back.

The labneh, herbs, and the tomato salad added delicious freshness to the hash, and the challah served as a great vessel for eating the hash. It is a rather large hall type space, but nicely designed, not a bare cafeteria style look. Hardwood floor with a large carpet, a mix and match of sofas, different types of chairs, tables large and small, round and rectangular. There aren't many plugs if one wants to work on a device (but I nonetheless easily found one). It is a chill, very college'y environment (few grad students leave alone faculty sitting around). A very nice space for both socialising and working with the buzz of cafe vibe around you. The hot chocolate was so so (but then again, my standards are European for hot chocolate) and the spiced pumpkin muffin was quite nice.
