I had a team of Koi, Julio and Luka. These guys were absolutely the best. Really friendly, very fast loading and unloading, and they transported things with incredible care. We had a whole apartment's worth of stuff going three hours out into upstate NY, up three flights of stairs, and not one thing got broken. Nothing. Also Koi gave me recommendations for where to get Ramen in NYC which was awesome. I would definitely book them again, or recommend them to anyone, especially if you get this team. read more

I will go back to West Side Movers for all of my future NY moves. From the initial estimate (which involved the President of the company coming to our home to scope it out) to the end of the move, everything was incredibly easy and hassle-free. Matt, Chris, and all the movers were fantastic and really made the experience great. Then when we had an electronic keyboard that mysteriously wasn't working after the move, they offered to help pay for the repair even though we packed it and it technically wasn't covered under their insurance policy. We had a disastrous experience with West Side Movers. They were slow, careless, and inefficient, completely misjudging the amount of time needed and missing the cutoff for delivering to our new address (where we had to request special permission to extend our time window). They literally threw items into boxes where we found clothes a mess combined with electronics and other random items. The boxes were very vaguely labeled (eg "miscellaneous" and "shelves") and the team did not unpack even though that was what was originally arranged. The owner dispatched workers to come back a couple of days later however they wanted to charge us for the additional time! I am 28 weeks pregnant and my husband has a bad back which is specifically why we hired them to carry out a full packing and unpacking service. It was disappointing and stressful and I would never want any other family to go through what we did. If you need movers, I highly recommend you choose someone else. read more

Absolutely fantastic. I researched many moving companies before going with WSM and couldn't have had a better experience. The quote was reasonable, especially given that the movers are professionals, not seasonally contracted workers that know nothing about how to navigate expensive furniture through Manhattan apt buildings (narrow entries, elevators, etc). Earl (foreman) and his team treated my furniture with tremendous care (not even a scratch), they were efficient and pleasant to work with as well. They went the extra mile of asking how I wanted the furniture placed and didn't mind when I changed my mind several times over. And they were honest. I (cynical New Yorker that I am)- did not worry about items disappearing. What's more, the owner, Matt, was a man of his word; when a mistake was identified, he didn't attempt to change our agreed upon price. You just can't find many companies like this any more, if ever. So, while I hope not to move again any time soon, I wouldn't even think of using another company--and neither should you!! PS - don't forget to tip them well. This morning one of your trucks was at the red light at 110th and Columbus. The driver opened the window, threw away a piece of paper and then closed the window. I have a picture of this, and I posted it on your facebook page, asking to remind your drivers not to litter. You have deleted my post 3 times. My daughter had to move unexpectedly and quickly and West Side Movers made themselves available with very little notice. They showed up on time and moved her quickly; including multiple flights of stairs on both ends. They wrapped the furniture with moving blankets, boxed up loose items, and covered the matress and box springs. The entire team was positive and very professional. Unprofessional and unreliable. I used them to move between 1 bedrooms. I moved in December 2013 and the experience still stings me enough to write this review 4 months later. The activities of the move: 1) Showed up 1 hr late because they couldn't find parking. Once they parked they spent the first few hours moving my stuff downstairs. Why they would need 3 people to find parking is beyond me. 2) Arrived with 2 movers and then realized the job was billed for 3. 3) Complained about the rate because the apartment itself had a few steps within 4) Packed the truck and told us to meet at the new place to unpack. They then arrived 1.5 hrs later (it was a 1 mile move) because they were getting lunch. I called their dispatcher many times and was told they were on their way. 5) Managed to break a piece of furniture in the exact spot that I told them the furniture was particularly fragile. Then tried to hide the broken furniture by putting the broken piece within one of the furniture's drawers without telling anyone. 6) Demanded 20% tip on top of a bill that included over 2 hrs (more than 30% of the time) of them sitting in the car looking for parking and eating sandwiches. read more

West Side Movers broke and damaged my furniture. Some things were lost. Used packing materials, empty beverage bottles and cigarette butts were left all over my home. Totally unprofessional conduct. Even so, the movers will demand cash and a 20% tip. Extra charges and extra attitude for unpacking. West Side pretends to care, but any stingy compensation you might get will be in exchange for a promise not to review. Avoid West Side Movers like the plague. Beware, West Side uses an outdated Angie's List award in their estimate which is totally misleading. read more

I was blown away. This was one of those very rare "wow" service experiences. My husband and I just moved from the Upper West Side to Scarsdale and cannot praise Westside Movers enough! They split it up and did all the packing in one day and then came early the next morning for the actual move. Everyone that was on the job from Hena the formean to all the movers and packers- Koi, Rich D, Jose, and Alex were all delightful. They packed everything beautifully and even helped me to configure my furniture layout at the new house since I have zero design ability. Everyone was so professional and had such a positive attitude that they eliminated 99% of the stress from moving. Terrible scam company. They steal from you and takes no responsibility. Their phone representative Brad told me that the moving and truck loading charge would be 350 dollars if I pay with credit card, but they can charge me cheaper for 300 dollars if I pay cash. So I agreed on the cash payment, and give a tip of 60 dollars to the three workers. However, 8 months later when I returned to New York and tried to get my things back, I found out that another 350 dollars was charged to my bank account on the day of moving 8 months ago. I called and asked Brad about that, guess what he said? He said: This kind of situation is NOT UNCOMMON in his company, and the 300 dollars cash I paid should be considered as a VERY GENEROUS TIP to the workers. Can you believe he actually said that??? They refused to pay me back, saying that it had been 8 months since the payment was made and they couldn't find the old workers anymore. But it was Brad himself who told me about the 300 cash payment 8 months earlier and he was still talking to me on the phone that day. As I tried to figure things out, one of their movers talked with me in a menacing way and forced me to sign the the second moving payment while I was alone at home. I felt threatened, and since they knew my new address already, I didn't dare to withdraw the payment because I was worried about my own safety based on their attitude in our last conversation. Everything from start to finish was flawless- I gave an estimated number of boxes and when the crew arrived they had additional on deck, which was great because I definitely needed them. They effectively communicated every step of the process and relieved all of the anxiety that moving comes with. My move had two parts and each went seamlessly. These folks are not worth it! Last spring I sold my apartment. I moved my things into storage while the new one was being finished and then moved in about a month ago. I got estimates from three movers including West Side. West Side was by far the most expensive but I chose them for the move out, storage and move in because they indicated they provided a superior service and I had a few things I did not want damaged. Well, in the course of the moves and storage a few of my thing got damaged. After complaining they sent someone to repair them. He did an ok job but they are not the same. My experience was infuriating because I had paid a premium price and received crappy service. I should also add that these people are particularly aggressive about asking for tips. read more

These guys were truly top-notch for my most recent move. My boyfriend and I were moving in together, so we had 2 pickup locations (both in Manhattan), then to our new apt in Brooklyn. Michael came and did a site visit so he could see all our stuff in advance and gave me a really fair quote (I've moved within the city several times over the past 7.5 years and have been ripped off more than once). The quote was capped, so even if the move ended up taking a bit longer than 5 hours, they wouldn't charge me more. Reggie was super nice and his team was awesome, extremely fast. They were professional, efficient, polite, had absolutely no attitude, delivered our furniture and boxes in the same condition they got them in, etc., etc. They were also really fast, but I think it is because we overestimated how much stuff we had. read more

Like the kind of quiet psycho who steals your clothes when you're not around and licks your leftover food just to get a taste? Well if you're like me, you did and had to move ASAP. My friend recommended West Side Movers because her family has been using them for 20+ years and swore by their service and professionalism. I am so happy I took her recommendation. Everything from the estimate to box delivery to the actual move went perfectly. They were a bit more expensive than other moving companies but I did not feel ripped off and it was worth it to know that I would be taken care of and not have to worry about a bunch of teenagers on skateboards showing up to my house and kicking my boxes around a la Ace Ventura Pet Detective style. I've worked with WSM twice now and each time has been wonderful. The guys came ready, stocked and totally prepared to make the move as easy for me as possible. I hate sitting around and not being able to help but Hana, Efran, Koi and Tyrone made the move very easy for me. I'm also a major germaphobe and they are very clean, which eased my worries. These guys worked overtime, as it took a bit longer than expected and the team worked graciously and helped with all that they could. Matt is a prime example of what customer service should be. Such a dichotomy here - these guys started out very conciliatory and then got pretty aggressive. We had used this company about 6 years ago. In itself probably a sketchy reason to hire them again. Their MO has changed: now they charge for boxes that are used even if they take them away and use them on the next job, they miscount boxes they've supplied and they charge for showing up, driving to you (even though their truck sat outside the whole time since we were moving within our building) and even their lunch hour! Also, they collect TAX on all of the above! The piece de resistance was the foreman who DEMANDED a gratuity of 18%, and refused to leave. There were times when two or three of the crew were just MIA - smoke break? They will still need to account for missing cabinet hardware, dinged wood panels on book cases and so far, one missing box of medicines from the bathroom packed by me! read more

We had a great experience just this past month: Matt, the CEO of the company came to do a quick estimate in person, was able to send me an estimate within hours of assessing my pack/move job and overall, his pricing was right in the zone of other quotes that I received. However, West Side was the MOST RESPONSIVE and communicative and even with a small-ish job, accommodated every need we had. The team, lead by Vadim and 4 other really professional, efficient, tidy, polite, hard-working guys, all did a great job. I would highly recommend them and definitely use them again, emphasizing how PROFESSIONAL the whole crew was. Also, the estimate was spot-on in terms of estimating time and labor. Finally, when I was trying to get quotes from other competitors, I found that they often required me to do lengthy questionnaires before offering a price and/or were reluctant to come assess themselves in person - not very customer-service focused. With all the competition out there, I would definitely stick to a licensed, experienced company like West Side. read more
