I've been here with different groups of friends and we've never been disappointed! It has the cute retro look outside and inside (It's an actual diner car). But wait! Head through what looks like the kitchen door and you'll be seated in a room with a different more contemporary scenery. The walls display local artwork that's cool to admire while you wait for the food! And if it's beautiful out, you have the option of outdoor seating (this is just an ok area, aesthetically). As for the food, it never misses a beat on deliciousness. I keep intending to try the lunch menu but can't pass up on breakfast foods. I have no complaints about the food whatsoever. My issues with this establishment revolve around the service and the atmosphere. The servers were very friendly, but were obviously new to the food service industry. They were slow to refill coffee on a slow day, and felt slightly disorganized. My biggest issue with the wait staff was the use of tablets instead of a pen and paper. I witnessed two waitresses talking orders while hunting and pecking at their 7" screens. The ordering process was much slower and made the experience significantly less personable. Lastly, the diner lacked any character and charm. Completely devoid of personally. Sterile and stainless. So if you want decent food at a decent price, please come to west side diner. Just don't expect much more than that. read more

In my exploration for more diner joints in Providence, I came across the newer, hipper cousin of Amanda's Kitchen in the West Side of town. First and foremost, the place is new but still pretty cozy. When I saw the menu, it was a little comforting to see some of the more familiar menu items (especially in the omelettes section). The selections are pretty standard - omelettes, sandwiches, pancakes, and waffles. For me, it was the little things that made a difference for me: - Their corned beef hash was truly made from scratch and it was delicious. - Options for potatoes are a nice change - I went with the home fries, which were all nice and toasty. - My coffee mug was never empty. While Amanda's is still my staple (literally walking distance from my place), the West Side Diner is a good option for when I want something a little different. read more

The front of the restaurant is standard 50s diner, but the back dining room is a unique, modern VIP room. Very well-designed and pleasing to the eye. The food? It comes out quick and piping hot. This is my first trip here. I love the concept and I've been wanting to go for a few months now. Nothing special about the place typical diner food not exceptional not horrible. The Decour is very comforting. The service was excellent, just wanted to be wowed by the food since it is in my neighborhood. I wasn't. We enjoy this place for breakfast. We usually swing into Providence before our Saturday errands. We love the service and food here. It's not over the top or too expensive like some places in Providence. Certainly a good breakfast stop. Definitely a place to grab a good omelette and some cheesecake waffles....... Providence can be a bit hectic but don't let the location steer you away from this little gem because when it comes to food, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Definitely well worth it! This place is very clean and I was very impressed. I recommend the Federal Hill omelette (Italian sausage, red peppers, sauteed onions and provologne cheese) and if they have them, the cheesecake Belgian waffles because Oh. My. God. No words do those bad boys justice. The cheesecake is INSIDE the waffle and it's just...amazing. Truly the holy grail of waffles, really. Diners in Providence seem few and far between these days, so I was thrilled to find one so close to my work. I woke up early this morning and couldn't fall back asleep, so I decided to get up and seize the day. When I arrived in Providence I ran a quick Yelp search for diners open early. West Side Diner popped up and it was a mile from my office, so I went for it. I was the first one there and was greeted by the only waitress on at the time. She told me to sit anywhere I wanted and asked if I wanted coffee right away. By the time I got my jacket off, she had my coffee at the table. She gave me a couple minutes to decide on my order and promptly returned to jot it down. About 10 minutes later, my omelette came out along with a side of turkey bacon and a side of corned beef hash. A little overkill with the meat, I know, but the hash was homemade so I had to sample it. My omelette was delicious, perfectly cooked, and had just the right amount of ingredients. I got the "Fall River" with sauteed onions, peppers, tomatoes and linguica. So, so good. The corned beef hash was definitely homemade, had good flavor, and wasn't greasy. The turkey bacon was pretty standard and about as good as one could expect. I asked for it well done and it came out just right. The coffee was fresh, admittedly because it was just made, but had good flavor and wasn't weak or watery. The atmosphere is what you'd expect from a classic diner. I love it. It's very, very clean - you don't feel gross when you leave. The waitress told me that the new owners remodeled it the previous year. There's ample parking in the lot and out front on the street. It's in a decent part of town. The sign out front is also cool, very 50s. All in all, I love this place. I will most definitely be returning. Solid performance, WSD! read more

This place is excellent. The revival of this old timer diner is not only a blast from the past but further underscores the revival the West End has been experiencing the last 5 years. At the West End Diner you can expect excellent, friendly service, great coffee and wonderful Diner style food. I prefer the Eggs Benedict or the Breakfast Burrito. The booths in the front can be a little cramped but the back half of the building is new and gets tons of natural light. Parking can be a challenge but if you don't mind a quick walk you'll have no problems. In short, this is definitely a place you should check out for a nice weekend brunch. read more

I have been going for over 3 years and my last two visits one being last Sunday was just very disappointing. I probably should have given a three but I know they can do so much better! If you manage to get in you will find one side is restaurant style with a bar, the other side looks like an old dinner. I really like this place and I feel they fill an otherwise depressing void of decent, affordable sit-down diner breakfast options in Providence. I have always been happy with my food there. It comes in a timely manner, and the service is always super friendly and attentive even when they're busy. Some of the waitresses struggle with their high-tech iPad-based ordering system, so I question whether they are training their employees properly. Where are my Johnny Cakes? How can you have a breakfast diner menu in Rhode Island without Johnny Cakes??? When I walked to the door, the sign said closed. Come to find out that they forgot to switch it to open. They seem to have a lot of young staff. We were seated in the back. We were given a lunch menu with breakfast but could not order lunch. There was not lot of option for us to order. I ordered breakfast and it came with a burger patty. It was a regular frozen patty burger nothing special. The service was bad. The waitress had here back to us because she was busy talking to her co-workers. Horrible service but I still gave a 18% tip. Then I heard her yell or complained about her tip and I did not even leave the diner yet. All-in-all I would not go back. I've been here a couple a times and the food is just OK. If you can cook at home, then you can cook the food offered here with the same (or maybe better) level of quality. Nothing really stands out or wows. In my opinion, the whole reason to come here is because you've woken up and have zero ambition to cook your food and want something fast, hot, and cheap. The service is friendly and, like I mentioned, quick. The wait time is minimal between ordering and getting your food out and the price is cheap. This is my first time in Providence. We went to two other restaurants in the area looking for breakfast and they each had an hour wait. We walked into Westside Diner and everyone was so nice and accommodating. We ordered the Portuguese French toast, two hungry man breakfasts, one chicken fajita omelette and the vegetable omelette. The pancakes here are amazing! All of the food was so delicious. Definitely order a side of pancakes and bacon. The service here is great and the food came really fast! My favorite brunch spot! I hadn't been in ages until I dragged my boyfriend here with me a few weeks ago, and it was just as heavenly as I remembered. The front part of the place is your classic diner setting, and they extended the place to include more seating in the back. It's a very laid back place to have a brunch on a lazy weekend. I've been eating at this place regularly for years because it's convenient to my home and the waitresses are the best! However, the quality of the food here keeps getting worse and clearly the owners could care less. The kitchen can't get eggs cooked right which is unbelievable considering this is a breakfast place, 9 times out of 10 the eggs come out of the kitchen broken, over cooked or under cooked. The French fries here are usually soggy and the last time I tried to order a burger I had to send it back several times before changing my order out of frustration. It seems like the prices here continue to increase as the food quality diminishes. I first had this place ordering through grubhub and when the food arrived, I was shocked that it was still hot and fresh. I ordered an omelette btw! Next time, me and the family went for breakfast there. It is definitely bigger than you think with the extra room in back. We were seated promptly but it took a lil bit for the waitress to come and take our order. But when we finally got our food it was fresh, hot, and flavorful. The Banana chocolate chip pancakes are HUGE and the bomb! The omelettes are good too but if your like my daughter and likes her ingredients cooked into the egg as opposed to filled in during the fold, then dont get the omelette or maybe ask if it can be cooked that way. My companion got the Belgian Waffle with granola and the side of sausage. After hearing his almost weekly woes of wanting waffles and never being able to find them (never mind perfect ones) we are so relieved!! Yay yummy waffles in Providence! My wife and I finally stopped in here today for the first time. We have driven past on many occasions, usually on weekends after the gym and have always said "one weekend. " We were very pleased. I was happy that on a Saturday at 11 am we were seated immediately at the counter with no wait. For a diner it is very clean, bright and new feeling. I was very pleased to see many different specials available. Some creative and new, some healthy and some not for me. The highlight of the trip was the housemade corn beef hash! One of my all time favorite breakfast items and it was DELICIOUS! I had the Fall River Omlette and my wife had the Eggs Benedict. I love this place! The dining area in the back is so lovely, and the up front diner side has that great feel to it. It's a very reasonably priced breakfast and lunch place. I also love how the servers use iPads for ordering, it ensures accuracy and speed! The food is great for both breakfast and lunch.
