We were in Shelburne Falls to check out the bridge of flowers and had dinner at the West End Pub. We started with the sesame garlic bites which were AMAZING. We couldn't stop going back for another. The main course was a little underwhelming. I got the pasta athene with chicken ($6 extra) which consisted of evoo, sun dried tomatoes, spinach, roasted red peppers, garlic, and olives (and chicken). I don't think that the chicken was worth the extra $6. In general I thought the dish was pretty under seasoned and didn't have a lot of flavor. read more

This restaurant is super cute and with wonderful views of the Deerfield River, or - when it returns - the Bridge of Flowers. It has a really intimate layout so you feel like you've been tucked into a corner - a corner with a nice view. It had a great booze list - but I was on a solo adventure and needed to drive some more so I settled for a Shirley temple. My one gripe was actually with the Shirley temple. It came in a tall glass that was hard to drink out of without a straw. I'm always happy to not use a straw - but maybe would have been happier if it came in a tumbler - even if it wasn't so festive looking. I got the Athene Pasta dish and it was delicious and came with some really wonderful garlic foccacia. My waitress did a great job. Sometimes people are super weird when I eat alone - but she did great. The Bridge of Flowers is closed this summer for renovation - I think West End Pub was a consolation prize for the people at the table near me. Not a bad consolation prize. read more

So yum! This place is nostalgic for me. I visited with family to celebrate my brother's graduation. We had bruschetta, spinach and artichoke dip, poutine, steak Gorgonzola pasta, steak bowl, cranberry walnut salad, a burger, and steak. The steak gorgonzola pasta is the best and a repeat order for me. The group enjoyed their meals. I think the focaccia recipe could be softer and the spinach dip needs less cream cheese and more veggies and mozzarella. Our server was great with our large party. We just had a wonderful lunch here for Father's Day. The place was very busy and had a long wait time, but it was well worth it. The food and drinks were VERY good. We had a bourbon side car and a mango coconut martini while waiting for our food, and then enjoyed the Haddock Provençal and Fried Scallop entree. Everything was perfect. I'm sure it was a busy and stressful day for the staff, but it didn't show from the quality of the food, drink, or service. We were heading to our favorite fall getaway spot, The Berkshires, and decided to take the long way through and head up the Mohawk Trail and stop at the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne Falls. This town has always perplexed me ... it's cute and quaint but has a vague sense of creepiness and neglect about it. Mostly, it's probably used by a stopover on those who are driving the trail's schedule. Usually, we eat lunch at The Golden Eagle restaurant on the hairpin turn because of the stunning views ... but it was rainy and foggy out the day we went, so we decided to skip that and try something with views of the river/bridge. The West End Pub is one of the only restaurants with views of the river, so that's where we went. First impression is that it feels a bit cluttered when you walk in. There is a back section which gives you a little more room to spread out and take in the river views. The menu seems to be very farm-to-table based and it mentions that local ingredients are used 'where possible'. They also have a very interesting drink menu with a lot of retro classics from the 1940's - 1960's which you don't see often like a Rob Roy, Tom Collins, Gin Fizz, etc. I will second the reviews that mention 'weak drinks' ... I got a Brandy Alexander and it tasted like mostly cream. Better to stick with the beer and the wine. We ordered our meals and there were some problems. My date ordered a burrito with chicken and it arrived with beef. She likes both, so rather than wait for it to be remade, she ate it. She said that it was good ... nothing earth shattering but everything tasted fresh and it was big enough to satisfy. I got the Southwestern Chicken Salad which was kind of odd. The salad consisted mostly of tortilla chips with a little lettuce, a scoop of chili and some guacamole and sour cream. It comes with ranch dressing on the side, which wasn't needed. I ordered this expecting a salad and instead, received essentially 'do it yourself' deconstructed nachos. There really wasn't much more than a bit of chopped romaine lettuce. There were about 20 tortilla chips. This wasn't a salad in my opinion. (And we know a thing or two about salads in Los Angeles.) The beef chili which came on the salad was fantastic! I immediately wished I had instead opted for a bowl of the chili. It was strange they mix cut cup cubed-reheated chicken (which looked like maybe a tablespoon or two) with beef chili in a salad ... the two don't really go together. If I was remaking the salad, I'd do 2-3 times the romaine lettuce, a freshly grilled sliced chicken breast with an adobo rub, sour cream and guacamole and a scoop of vegetarian or chicken chili. Much of the menu looked pretty good and the decision was a hard one. Everyone else eating there (mostly older crowd) looked very happy with their food and experience. I would rate the food we ordered as being a generous 3, staff was a 5, atmosphere a 4. Despite several of the issues we encountered, this was a place we would return, so I will give it 4 stars. The views of the river are beautiful and it's in such a quaint little town, you can't help but enjoy the experience here. read more

Surprisingly good! I had shrimp tacos which comes with two. Not spicy and very tasty. My kids ordered wings with sauces on the side. They said it had good flavor. We ordered buffalo cauliflower which was not as crispy or as flavorful as I've had it before but it was still good. I loved the service. We went here last weekend with another couple after the cider days festivities on a cold night. Couldn't see too much of the surroundings since it was so dark, but it is nestled comfortably on a corner right next to the river-- I'm sure it has very nice river views during the day. They did have an extensive menu and also a nice list of specials. I ordered an apple cider martini that was pretty tasty, and the rest of the party had beers (not my area of expertise! Lol!) The other couple ordered some beef chili which they say is very good, and we ordered buffalo wings hot for an app. They were HOT-- honestly too hot, but we did ordered the hot version, so it's probably our own fault. But literally everywhere else's 'hot' is pretty lame-- perhaps a little note on the menu to indicate they really mean it?! We all ended up getting the same dinners-- the gals had the stuffed chicken special with cranberry corn stuffing and cider rum sauce that came with mashed potatoes and butternut squash. I thought it was just okay-- the sauce was nice, but the chicken was honestly underwhelming, and so were the potatoes. The squash was tasty, but to me it was disappointing considering we drove over here based on the other couple's recommendation. The fiancé 'hated' his burger because it had blue cheese on it, and he is not a blue cheese fan..I think that was an oversight on his part because the menu did say it came with that. We stopped in here for a drink one evening after dinner. I opted for the Finestkind IPA (Smuttynose Brewing Co., Hampton, NH). A tasty, hoppy IPA with nice citrus flavors. Our waitress was super nice, as was the bartender. My cousin Liam ordered an espresso martini and was not pleased with the first one. The bartender came over and discussed it with him, and then made him a second one using different ingredients. Liam liked the second one! If I lived in the area, I'd be at West End Pub regularly! We called in for curb-side pickup after rafting. We all had burgers, yummy. They serve local beef which I appreciate and the bun was golden and tasty. I had broccoli slaw which had a nice balance of tangy and sweet. My friends had fries and loved them. I planned to recycle the foil trays when I got home. Called in reservation for dinner. We showed up a few minutes early but there was no room for us to even step into the restaurant. There were people ahead of us who had reservation before us and they were still waiting for there table. We waited 15 minutes and the people in front of us still hadn't been seated and were complaining. Mind you people kept coming so what little space we had while waiting was no more. We had dinner here after whitewater rafting and an amazing tour of the Bridge Of Flowers! We had a perfect seat right on the river with all the flowers in the background. My wife and I are long time patrons. We have always enjoyed being there. It's a small place sitting right on the edge of the Deerfield River with a view, from most tables, of Bridge of Flowers as well. Mother's Day however was a bit disappointing. My bone in rib eye was mostly griddle; while my wife's Salmon was mostly raw, and sent back to the kitchen. My dad was a caterer, so I understand the pressures involved in a busy place, but I don't like paying $30.00 for bone & gristle. A little quality control & adult leadership in kitchen operations should turn the tide. And, if at all possible, recommend add gluten free pasta dishes, so those of us can enjoy one of their delicious pasta dishes again, now that I have a wheat/gluten issue. We still love the place, like Paul, the owner, and we know most of the staff, and look forward to another visit there. read more

Hit or miss over the years. We've been going to the pub since you could drop your keys off the back porch if you are not careful... Always liked the vibe, seen a fishercat that use to live on the other shore. Had some good meals and enjoy the local sourced food. Pros: nice place, great views, local farms provide the food. Cons: Weak drinks, pomegranate margarita was watery. Recently ordered the locally sourced goat burger - good meat but very uninspired preparation - literally - no care by the chef. The grille was not hot enough and the burger was more like boiled tasting than grilled. I wish I had brought a little bouquet of herbs to toss on the burger and had it seared - would have made a huge difference. Unluckily it was bland preparation that was uninspired and frankly not worth it. My wife had the Kimchee burger and it was AWESOME - so like I said - hot and cold. Another not - the Broccoli salad is great - if you want to taste onions for another 12 hours. It's great - but they need to blanche the onions to quell the acidity and not overpower your taste buds after the meal. Sitting on the outside deck is great - and we'll be back - but I don't know if it's the chef on duty or overall lack of executive chef direction on the way the meals are to be prep'd - direction of the manager would go a long way to creating a better experience... finally - wait staff is stellar - over the years - they are really attentive and nice people. Just train your kitchen staff a bit better. Step it up folks and you could be phenomenal. read more

I've made the place a regular stop for a beer and a good meal after work. It's a friendly place with a nice bar and a great enclosed porch out over the Deerfield River and next to the World Famous Bridge of Flowers. In the summer the wonderful scent of Wisteria drifts in from the bridge. The food selection is extensive and varied. I recommend the meatloaf dinner made from local beef. The pub nachos plate is very generous and a meal in itself or a great appetizer for a full table - you'll need to ask for more dip though, and it will be happily supplied. Delicious tuna nicoise is another great option. There's really too much to talk about and it's all good. The staff is also friendly and efficient. A couple of things to note: It's a small place so in the summer the wait can be up to an hour for a table. Also, as noted by others, the bathroom is through the kitchen and down a small winding flight of stairs so that's something to think about before you drink too much. If you need a wheel chair accessible restaurant there are other excellent options in town such as The Blue Rock or Hearty Eats. read more

We went to West End Pub a few months ago and were not disappointed. This little restaurant is always packed and has a wait list, but it is totally worth the wait. I had a local burger that was delicious and found the desert to be even better. We shared a brownie sundae and couldn't stop eating it. The other cool thing about this restaurant was the bathroom. Even though this sounds weird, walking down to the bathroom and seeing the historic photos along the way was really great. This place has a ton of character, and a menu to match! read more

We're from Boston and visited West End Pub on Saturday at the peak of leaf season on a PERFECT fall day and the place was hopping. We were on our way to Mass MoCA and decided to grab lunch in Shelburne Falls on our way to North Adams. Yes we had to wait about 45 min for a table for four (most tables are deuces) but the hostess was attentive, and pleasant the whole time and all the staff seemed to be having a great time even though there were more customers than they could possible welcome. So, we walked around out side on the Bridge of Flowers, chatted with other visitors, petted the dogs walking by and soon our table was ready. And it was worth the wait. I had the special sandwich of the day: Ham, sautéed apples and onions served open faced on focaccia (or wheatberry) under melted gruyere and some sauce that I can't remember the details on. Wow! Delicious, and I chose the side of broccoli slaw that I'm going to attempt to recreate at home this week. My fellow diners had the cod fish sandwich and the tuna wrap which was grilled ahi (rare!! like it should be) with a wasabi ginger sauce, and the turkey club with the most delicious sweet potato fries. Oh and the young man who was our server was adorably sweet and pleasant and again, very attentive, even though they were super busy. This is a great, casual welcoming place with the owner in the kitchen swinging pots and pans with the rest of the staff... always a good sign. I went here for the first time today. The service and food were downright awful. Two hours after opening, they were out of all but one of the daily specials. I suspect that means they had meat that had to be used that day. $15 shrimp appetizer had 7 shrimp drowning in a sweet sauce and very poorly grilled. Ordered grilled rare tuna. I have never seen the color in the center on tuna before, and the sauce was overpowering. Can't help but think it was in the freezer for way too long. Tasteless beyond the sauce, most was left behind. The zucchini side was tasty! Service: asked for two drinks, waitress told us about daily specials being out and asked if we would like a drink. Nobody came by to ask about entrees, refill water, or anything else. Other people seemed to enjoy the burgers from a local organic farm. read more

I came with a group of 8 people on a motorcycle tour of the area. The place is small enough that we had to be seated separately, which wasn't a problem. The staff waited on us quickly and were attentive to our needs. We all enjoyed our food, which ranged from all over the menu, from burgers to salads and soup. This is a very cute little pub on the Deerfield river in Shelburne falls.The views are awesome, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Stopped in as I was exploring the area and my friend wanted something pub like. This fit that bill: The good: The waitress/hostess that seated us was very friendly. We chose to sit at the bar, which felt less crowded then the rest of the restaurant. The bartender was smart, funny, and a good server. He happily answered questions and joked with us. Our orders for drinks and food were prompt. Even tho things were a bit busy. The flavors were good. Nice pairings of strong and interesting. The "eh." Prices: They're high. (And I come from a premium town.) The entrees are $13-$21. The burgers range from $10-$14 Lunch menus are a bit more reasonable, running from about $7-$10. Seating: Tight. Close. Small. The bar selection is on the average scale. No real surprises. When we were there there were 3 beers on draught, all of which were BBC. (On the positive note, they were at least 3 different types of brews. Pretty much something for everyone.) There can be a wait. The bad: My veggie burger was cooked too well. The outside was crunchy and the inside soggy. The tomato on the burger was pithy. For what it is, this is a very nice pub in a touristy town. read more

Came to the West End Pub on a tour of the Berkshires in high hopes of a good meal in a prime location by the Bridge of Flowers. Unfortunately, they squandered their advantage with extremely poor and incompetent service. My girlfriend and I were seated fairly quickly in a restaurant that was about 90% full. That was the last time we experienced anything that was quick. Our order of drinks took a bit to come out. We ordered food immediately after we had our drinks as we sensed the slow pace being set. 45 minutes later...still no food. We mentioned something to the waitress and she promised us our food was minutes away. Probably our fault for not asking how many more minutes! 15 minutes after that and still no food, even though the table of 4 that sat down nearly half an hour after us had just been fully served their meals. Asked for the manager and he told us that the cheese on the melt sandwich I had ordered takes a while to cook...ummmm...what?? That's pretty terrible news for gourmet grilled cheese trucks. Hey guys, bad news for ya...your business model is ruined because it now takes an hour to melt cheese. The manager would have done better by us if he had just admitted that they forgot to place our order to the kitchen instead of trying to give us a BS excuse.
