Went in to review color swatches for a custom furniture piece were were interested in, associate was very helpful but unfortunately somehow a swatch that was not eligible for our piece was included in what the employee gave us (which we didn't realize) and of course that ended up being the one that we liked the most - didn't realize til we went to go order it that that fabric wasn't available for our item. Very frustrating as we drove 2 hrs round trip both times we went out to west elm, first to get the swatches and 2nd was supposed to be our trip to finalize our fabric selection. We had thought our 2nd trip would be a quick stop but realized once we got there the swatch mishap. We had stopped in 10-15 min before closing as we thought it would just be a quick confirm fabric and order. One staff member was sympathetic to our situation of now having to pick a brand new fabric and another (who I think is one of the managers) was extremely pushy unsympathetic and you could tell really just wanted to get us out of the store. She brushed off the fabric swatch mistake made by her team almost as "well that's life" sort of dismissal was the feeling we got. There was no hospitality in the customer service provided. As a "solution" she gave us a different swatch that was a completely different color and stated that "it would feel almost the same it's just different color version" this swatch was a completely different fabric and texture and the color nowhere close to what we had verbalized + very clearly was just trying to get us to shut up and get out lol. We left feeling very dismissed and brushed off and also like we were stupid? I understand a customer service interaction doesn't need to be perfect and mistakes happen- but the response to the mistake from the manager was what really affirmed we will not be using west elm unless we absolutely have to. Rubie and the team at West Elm/Williams Sonoma are hands down some of the best customer experience professionals I've ever dealt with. We ordered 3 couches and a bed, and the bed arrived completely wrong - incorrect color and size. I was bummed because we were rebuilding our home after a natural disaster, and finally moving back in after over half a year away, and I couldn't stomach the thought of sleeping on a mattress on the floor while waiting for a new bed. Rubie showed sympathy and compassion by helping me navigate the situation. She advocated to WS to leave the incorrect bed in the interim so we had something to sleep on. This small act made all the difference in the world to us. The new bed was just delivered (and incorrect bed picked up) and I couldn't be happier. I am beyond grateful to the teams at WE and WS for their amazing support - they truly care about their customers. I cannot recommend them enough. It is by far the worst customer service experience I have ever had - even worse than the airlines. I have been a great customer of WE through the years--3 bedroom suites, 2 dining sets, 2 couches, 3 leather accent chairs, side tables, bedding, lamps, dishes, etc., etc. I will not shop at WE again after a recent experience with the lack of customer service. We placed an order that has been an absolute mess. They delivered the same incorrect ottoman twice, one dining chair had a black spot that looked like magic marker on the leg, the dining table had chipped veneer. We have had three table tops delivered that all have had damage and they are refusing to replace it again. They offered to send a totally different table, but none fit the space nor match the chairs we are now stuck with. To be fair, the manager at this store, Ruby, did finally get the correct ottoman ordered for us (at least we hope it is!). I have spent countless hours on the phone with customer service, and waiting on deliveries. Just an absolutely horrible company to work with in my opinion. read more

We really needed a new couch, so checked out west elm, especially since it's one of the few furniture stores in downtown Bellevue. But it was not the best experience. The customer service here is disappointing. I love midcentury modern style, which west elm has much of in their furnishings. We visited on a Sunday and the place was busy, with many patrons shopping inside and some of the sales associates were with customers, but many of them were by the cash register socializing with no one in line to check out. We found a sectional that we wanted to get more information on and it took forever to get someone to help us. When I attempted to try and get some help, all of the sales associates found something to be busy with. All of a sudden the sales associates at the front counter needed to fold or look at something on the computer. I finally was able to make eye contact with a sales associate across the room where I finally just loudly asked, "Can you help us with swatches?" He did send us home with swatches and went over different options, answered our questions. But compared to other furniture stores that we had visited, west elm did not care about our sale. It reminded me of going to a high end store where the sales associates see you, but don't offer help. I tried ordering a matched set of bath and hand towels back in mid-September. The hand towels arrived okay, but the bath towels were placed on back order, with the delivery date repeatedly pushed back (which was never communicated to me directly; I had to check the status myself). By the time the status indicated it was going to be at least mid-November, I contacted West Elm to cancel the bath towels and return the matching hand towels for a refund. The first customer service rep. I called was impossible to work with. Between a poor phone connection and his heavy accent, I couldn't understand him. I eventually had to hang up and try again, and was able to reach someone who canceled the bath towels and sent me a return label to ship back the hand towels, which I promptly did. That was 10 days ago, but the return items still haven't arrived at their warehouse, and my payment still has not been reimbursed. When I called to inquire about it, they told me the return was still on its way according to their records, and I would have to wait to be reimbursed until it arrived at their end. I asked if they could go ahead and reimburse me more promptly, given all the trouble I've already been through, and the rep. said he wasn't authorized to do that until the product actually arrives. The entire experience has been quite frustrating, and it's not over yet. Many vendors (such as Amazon) return your money as soon as they can see the item is heading back. Especially on special request, West Elm should empower their customer service reps to do the same. That's what customer service means. I hope I eventually get my refund. It's been a crazy past 4 months. I ordered a dining table in late November and it was scheduled for Mid December. Oh I was so excited when the Ryder delivery came by my door to setup my dining table -- only to find out that the tabletop was broken. I told them to send all the items back, as this is a problem with Ryder and West Elm, and I as a consumer should not have to worry about handling logistics and talking with West Elm and Ryder to figure how to get a not broken tabletop. In the first attempt, I called the West Elm Call Center to figure stuff out, oh were they rude. They basically said we will figure it out tomorrow. They did not make me feel reassured that I would get my table. I asked for compensation for my wait, as I literally had christmas party planned that I had to cancel because of this failed delivery, but they rudely said no. But the next day, I get an order confirmation for redelivery. Great! So, the second attempt happened in Early January. Oh was I VERY excited about this one, as I was excited to finally host friends and family. But wait, only the tabletop came this time. Now, once again, I did not want to get into drama and handle all the "who has what piece and where", so I told them to send it back. On the second attempt, I called the Bellevue office. The person on the call was super nice and caring, offered compensation after delivery was successful. Handled everything on the call, and said we will even call you before the delivery happens to make sure all pieces will come. (This is the only reason why it's 2 stars instead of 1). So, today, the third attempt happened (late January)! Oh I had high hopes, as I was reassured from West Elm and Ryder. But nope, they came with only the legs! I live in a small townhome, I do not have space to store the legs til the entire desk gets here, nor did I want to have to deal with talking to both Ryder and West Elm's logistics. So, once again, I am without a table. For this third attempt, I have called the Bellevue location once again, but this time I was very disappointed. The person on the call, did not sound motivated, and told me why I didn't keep the pieces that came. They said most people keep the working pieces -- essentially saying that it was my fault the logistics has been a mess. I would say, not the best to tell your customer "you are wrong", especially at this point my trust in West Elm have been on a limbo. From my perspective, how could I trust West Elm to not go through logistical problem if I take partial delivery, if they can't even do a whole fulfillment of the table after 3 attempts? I even asked about compensation, as promised after the 2nd attempt, and the person on the call didn't know anything about it. Today, I feel very uneasy about if I am even going to be able to take delivery. After the call, there was no resolution, confirmation or assurance that I would ever get my table. For any business, that's not a feeling you would want to give to customers. We will see if the 4th attempt will have both the legs and the tabletop without broken pieces. Frustrated with our experience(s) at West Elm lately. We were very happy to find one in downtown Portland. We are in the Vancouver Washington area and we really dislike going into Oregon because of the horrible amount of traffic that you encounter at all times, seriously it's so random and unpredictable. First, we came looking for a couch. We couldn't find anything that wasn't super low, super deep and ultimately super uncomfortable. Also, the things we really wanted to see weren't displayed on their floor and were only displayed in other West elms not nearby such as their reclining couches and some of their trundles. So on a trip to Seattle recently, we went to the West Elm in Seattle to try to see them there. It's really frustrating when they sell the floor models and then don't get more of them in even though they admit it's a popular item I don't want to buy an item that is that expensive if I've never even gotten to sit on it,especially if it's custom fabric that isn't returnable and even if we could return it the amount of time it takes to get to you with the shipping delays is ridiculous. We ended up purchasing our sofa and reclining chair elsewhere. Then, when then we went to them for blackout blinds. There weren't many on display and half of what they had was in a corner on sale, but we did find a color we liked, it wasn't hanging, but we liked it and we asked the sales person to look up the color for us because it wasn't listed on the packaging and they didn't have the length we needed or the blackout option in that color color so we need to order them. At the time those blinds were on sale. These shows as 40% off when you clicked on them on that specific color and length and blackout blind version. Unfortunately, their website was having issues and wouldn't apply the discount so we asked them if they could help us with it, they couldn't get the discount to work either. We asked if there was anyway they could get a manager or customer service to help and they said no we asked if they could order them themselves for us and we can come pick them up and were also told no. At least the nice sales person we saw that time was able to explain to us how to tell the difference between certain blinds and which ones were blackout the blackout ones have a little circle in the corner that say blackout on them.. So we went home and ordered the blinds online without the discount, of course and waited for them to arrive sadly, when they finally did they were completely color and texture, and they weren't blackout blinds. So we went back to West in Portland again we asked them to help us return. The ones that were sent to us incorrectly. Help us order the correct ones only to find out that color was no longer available and have this new customer service person argue with us that blackout blinds weren't a real thing. We left the store and ended up driving out to the mall in Beaverton and ordered blinds from Pottery Barn. We keep striking out with West Elm and it's getting really annoying. They need to have more knowledgeable customer service agents on the floor and they need to understand their products better not to mention the fact that they need to listen to their clients when they are literally telling them what they're looking for and not just putting generic things on the floor if clients are telling you that they all want to try some thing and you don't even bother to provide that feedback to corporate and put it in your store then you're not listening to the people who are paying for your products. The last time I was there, there was literally a woman saying the exact same thing I was saying she was frustrated that she couldn't see any of the reclining furniture and I have heard this from other clients as well and customer service representatives have told me that people come in asking about them all the time too. I'm really grateful for a location in downtown Portland as we really don't like going further than that and we're not gonna make a trip up to Seattle just to look at furniture. I wish there were more furniture stores in the Vancouver downtown area and that they were better. Also stop offering a discount and not following through. Nobody could figure out why it wasn't working and they wouldn't call anyone to try to get help for us, apparently they can't help with problems like that. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. I ordered the Square Ribbed Bath Mat, which came delivered with a stain on it. No apology was offered upon returning it. I also ordered the Billy Cotton Simple Dining table, which came to a total of $901.99 along which the white glove delivery. When it was being delivered by three of their delivery men, they dropped the box which left a huge crack along the edge of the table. Again, no apologies offered by West Elm. Obviously, I did not accept the broken table and opted for waiting for the next delivery, in which the deliverymen told me would be sometime that same day. When I spoke to the agent on the phone she told me that the table would not be available until sometime in March(a full month later), yet the email I received states the the table will now not be delivered until late May/early June. When I called to ask why is it being delayed as the oringal agent told me March, I was not given a clear answer. I had to initiate inquiring about a price compensation due to the hassle, in which I was told I was a "good candidate" for a possible compensation but that I would have to wait until the table was received to even apply for receiving compensation. Which is a rip-off approach to making amends for their shortcomings. For a high end brand with expensive pricing, West Elms delivery services and customer service is not a good look. West elm in Bellevue seems to hire people who either don't care or don't know anything. We went in to buy the slope counter stools in grey. They had only one in the store, we needed two, and in the course of 5 minutes the delivery for another one went from 4 weeks to 8 weeks or more! We asked the young sales person (a woman who never gave us her name) how to navigate getting a second one before the summer ended. She didn't care -- and when we asked to see a manager she said the answer would be the same. (the one in the store was on sale, the tag gave the price but she said that was only for the "on floor" model but the tag gave no such notice.) She finally reluctantly called over Seth the manager. While more polite he too, came up empty . So we went to the Seattle West Elm where an employee saved the day. We will review her separately as she was terrific. But moving back to Bellevue, when the Seattle associate solved this, and asked Bellevue to hold the one chair overnight, nothing had been done. The chair was supposed to have a name on it == nope.The Seattle associate was told it'd be held without payment til COB the next day. The manager the next day -- Vicki -- didn't know, didn't care, couldn't find evidence of the hold or the price tag to the sale and only said "well it's good we hadn't sold it yet. " WHAT?? I recommend NEVER going to the Bellevue West elm again. I certainly won't. Read my separate review for the wondeful associate at the Seattle store. Where a little creativity and care made all the difference. Now I see why the young un named associate didn't care. Neither did the managers Seth and Vicki.. Shame on you!!! The most frustrating service ever!! I ordered a coffee table 3-4 months ago and on the morning of delivery (which I took off work to be there), I was called and told the table was damaged. Now it shows item ready to be delivered and no one has called me. So, I spent another hour on call to hear from the delivery company that West Elm has not sent them the table yet. What sets this location apart of the spotless store and the excellent customer service-the store manager in particular always goes out of her way to welcome you and see if you need anything. There are a lot of bad reviews here, and I totally understand that things have been rough during the pandemic. I had a bad experience... but then, a really exceptional one too! The couch we ordered arrived nearly three months overdue, because of shipping delays and supply chain issues. That's not West Elm's fault. But half of it also arrived broken and in the wrong color. Frustrating, when you pay $3,000+ for a custom piece and have to wait forever to get it, and it finally arrives but it's not what you wanted! HOWEVER, I would shop here again, over and over! Pandemic issues notwithstanding, this store has some really phenomenal people, who care about their customers and go above & beyond to help when things aren't right. I want to shout out Pam, in particular, who single-handedly redeemed our negative experience with compassion, kindness, and tenacious customer care. I love working with her, and cannot say enough how much I appreciate her going the extra mile (or 10!) to help us resolve our couch problems. Jake is pretty awesome, too. Yes, it is hard to be patient for things, but that's just how our world is right now. Bought a custom sectional back in March and 5 months later it's still incomplete... It arrived in late April and was beautiful. I had to exchange a section of it it though because it was defective and had a SHARP metal edge sticking out. The sharp edges also put many holes on many of my pants which I had to throw away... The threading was also messed up in some areas. The replacement took 2+ months and again, the replacement has issues too! This time the connector piece was installed backwards AND stuck open, making it impossible to connect the sections together. I'm currently waiting for a replacement connector... which is estimated to take a whole month... for a connector piece?! I also need to call to schedule someone to install it.. 6 months total for a couch... I don't recommend buying a west elm couch if you can avoid it. The quality checking is just non-existent and you will be waiting a long time. This one star is for the sales rep who helped us out he was fantastic! read more

Customer service is non-existing. The loading dock to pick up your stuff is slow. Everyone is rude, pretentious, and unfriendly. If you're lucky there might be one person that's willing to help you. We are buying all new furniture for our new house we have 2 dining rooms one in which needs a 10-12 person table in it with buffet and hutch and any other furniture that looks good. We tried to return two bar stools but they INSISTED on a paper receipt. We literally bought these stools over the weekend and had to load and unload them multiple times to do this trip. We also signed up for their rewards program, and you'd think they'd have the transaction on file for a return. They don't. Went in right before everything closed down looking for some in stock curtains i had seen on westelm.com for a new house for a quick playroom Solution , but also was browsing and getting furniture ideas for the new house. Started talking to Vicky park in the curtain area and I also asked about design consultations. She gave me her card and fast forward weeks later , I noticed on their instagram stories, they were still avail for videoi emailed to see if she could help as I was just stuck looking for what went together. Ive bought west elm pieces over the years... a floor mirror, dining table, chairs, rug, etc but always online and never really interacted with a person. We still have most of those pieces to this day-- a husband and kid later so its held up, but a couple items ( dining chairs) my son fingerpainted on one too many times, so it was my fault for needing those new items. I had no idea what amazing free services they offered with this design team! In like a magic quick -snap your fingers - moment vicky produced floorplan and floorplan and had ideas for pieces i think I had just scrolled thru online and never considered and then all of a sudden here I was calling her begging to place an online order. It was sooo much quicker than waiting for havenly or modsy designs and these were actually furniture pieces available to ship and arrive within a week. Look forward to reviewing the full plans Vicky provided with my husband and figure out room by room what were gonna go with. For now, im set with at least my nightstands and entry table. read more

Got an entire furniture set from West Elm. It looks good but is very poorly designed functionally. I didn't notice until later that the drawers that don't have slides! You might ask, "Why wouldn't you think about that?" Uh, because even the drawers on the crappy pressboard furniture I had as a kid had slides! I just didn't even know this was an issue I needed to be aware of! Live and learn! So I tug, yank, struggle, and fight to open the drawers (its the level of struggle you see in infomercials) and it's wake-up-your-spouse-loud. I have to shove and thud the drawers shut, sometimes hard enough that I push the entire piece back towards the wall. The wood on the drawers haven't "worn down" to become smoother/easier to open/close, and it's not like I can just squirt some WD-40 to fix the wood grinding on wood. Sent my daughter to exchange for a different size as we had duvet covers in a full and king and we needed a twin size and they would not exchange it. I was calling about price matching an item online. I'm so offended and hurt to how rude she responded to me. I feel as if she never even wanted to hear my concern and question. I purchased 2 Hamilton chairs & in less than 10 mos, they were faded & looked like old orangey/brown paper bags. The chairs were placed in a room where at best, some early filtered light comes through. They were also covered most of the time because we didn't want kitty nails to scratch the leather. On top of that, we live in the PNW, & the room they reside in faces northeast. How much sun could they have been exposed to in 10 mos? Not a whole lot. In addition to the fading, the leather is so dried up & looks like crap. I contacted West Elm around 10 mos after purchase. I sent pictures & their response was they couldn't do anything because it was faded & my problem. I had a sofa that sat in that same location for well over 10 years & zero fading occurred. West Elm offered leather cleaner & protection. Of course it didn't do anything. For the amount of money we spent on the furniture, a person would assume it would hold up for a few years. Not these!! We now have 2 chairs that turned into garbage in less than 10 mos so beware, West Elm does not back their CHEAP leather products. read more

West Elm is great! This location in particular is really convenient with tons of parking and amazing variety. I spent the last several weeks looking for a very specific shade of blue plates for my new home. Had I started here I would have spared myself endless frustration! They have amazing clearance sales and the other items they have are very reasonably priced. I spent roughly $200 on a full set of tableware for 6. I had been looking all over and the plates I wasn't too sold on and would have paid 2-3x's more. I have purchased wine glasses and duvets from here in the past and they are good quality and never fade when you wash them! I've come here many times now, and I never know what to expect. Sometimes it's fine, and sometimes it makes me never want to go back again. I've had some positive experiences, with great customer service and very nice, helpful employees, but also the opposite, with little or poor customer service that makes me wonder why I'm spending so much money here. I guess you just have to go in with no expectations, and a lot of patience. I know I'm not the only one who's had similar experiences as seen in the other reviews, but it's just sad that it's consistently disappointing because their stuff can actually be good and decently priced when on promotion! This review is more about delivery and customer service than the stores we've been to. A chair we ordered over three months ago says it's ready to ship for a month now. We've called seven times and every time the West Elm rep says "It is 100% ready to ship, but we don't handle that" they then transfer us to their shipping company who EVERY TIME says "I see it's in their warehouse but they have not approved it for shipping". This has been going on for over three weeks. The latest time we called we asked to please not transfer to the shipping company because they will say it's not ready. They instead transferred us four times internally and the call dropped. It feels like West Elm has stolen our money, is holding our chair and will not release it. A very disappointing and terrible customer experience. Suggest shopping at another furniture store. read more

Horrible customer service. We bought a matching dining and buffet table with delivery. they delivered one of the two. The buffet was broken and after 3 tries they took it back. But they would not refund the delivery costs. Horrible customer service with this company. We wanted a matching set and not different pieces. If we wanted different non-matching pieces, we would have never come to west elm and paid 2X the price for our table compared to way fair or other decent stores with good service. Never shopping here again. Waste of money and days of time trying to deliver broken furniture repeatedly. We got cheated out of hundreds of dollars from this company.
