I hired Eduardo about three years ago to remodel two bathrooms at the same time. He and team were…read morefriendly and the finished appearance looked good, but unfortunately one bathroom developed a hidden moisture problem that has now required full remediation and reconstruction (thousands of dollars worth of repair) When I opened the wall, I discovered that the exterior bathroom wall had old insulation, old vapor paper, and no proper moisture management behind the new drywall. This created a condensation trap in winter that eventually led to mold inside the wall cavity and peeling paint on the surface. The other bathroom--built at the same time--did not have this issue, which is what helped us figure out that this was not a house-wide moisture problem, but instead a wall-assembly oversight specific to that remodel. To be clear: I'm not questioning their friendliness or effort, but proper bathroom remodeling requires evaluating insulation, vapor control, and the condition of exterior walls during demo, especially when replacing drywall on an exterior-facing wall. That step didn't happen here, and it ultimately created a significant expense and inconvenience down the road. I've removed my initial positive review because, while the bathrooms looked nice on day one, this kind of behind-the-wall oversight matters. I hope the company takes this as constructive feedback for future projects. Customers should make sure that insulation, vapor strategy, and exterior-wall conditions are verified when remodeling a bathroom - especially one with drywall on an outside-facing wall.

They've become an integral part of both our home and business improvements. Eduardo started with handyman work, and we quickly trusted his team with a full bathroom remodel. Years later, they transformed our kitchen into a beautiful space we love, all while following our design vision. Over the years, they've handled everything from minor repairs to urgent fixes at a mixed-use building we own. Most recently, they took on a major project--converting our two-car garage into a fantastic ADU and building a one-bedroom apartment above it. Their craftsmanship, dependability, smart problem-solving, and fair pricing are top-notch. Whether it's a large remodel or an urgent repair, they are our trusted team. I can't say enough good things about Eduardo--you'll love working with them.

We had existing design plans, and before we started the project, we interviewed several contractors and decided on HQR because their portfolio of past work and talks with Ronnie. We also chose HQR because we felt the pricing was fair and transparent, especially for this area (Danville/Blackhawk). Ronnie made sure we stayed on budget and estimated 12 weeks for the project, and if it had not for a delay with our windows we would have finished within that time frame. Once we started, Ronnie's crew was here every day and was always very friendly, hard working and thorough. Staying on track and having someone work on the project every day is valuable and not something one should take for granted when working with a general contractor. Maybe it was because we had an outside designer, but I had totally underestimated the amount of time that I needed to spend myself overseeing the project. There were some hiccups along the way, and some specific installations that required me to hire some sub-contractors myself. I can say though that whenever there was an issue, Ronnie did make sure that things were fixed right away to our satisfaction. Ultimately, we got our dream kitchen for the expected price within the promised time frame, and I am thankful for HQR and Ronnie for that.

A Nightmare Experience with GMBC: Poor Craftsmanship and Unreliable Service…read more Hiring GMBC for our renovation project was a terrible decision. The experience was a complete nightmare, with their shoddy craftsmanship and unreliable service leaving me deeply dissatisfied. We worked with Moshe and had numerous conversations about the quality of work but he did not care. The project initially estimated to take three months, dragged on for over a year. Here are the major issues I encountered: 1. Poor Quality Craftsmanship: The work done by GMBC was riddled with errors and executed in a sloppy manner. The foreman was rarely present, and when he was, he consistently overpromised and underdelivered. Their lack of skill and attention to detail was evident in poor flooring install, uneven paint jobs, and a complete disregard for precision. A few examples of their subpar workmanship, but by no means comprehensive: -A small deck featuring cracked spindles/railing. The wood was so discolored that we paid them more just to try to cover it up, with the end result looking even worse. -We paid them thousands to level our floor and install flooring, but the end result was warped and bouncy. After we pointed it out, they suggested drilling holes all over our new floors and trying to glue everything down. -A sliding shower door installation that was unlevel and featured a half inch gap all the way around. It was so bad that we couldn't even shower in the room without the bathroom filling with water. There were several issues such as drill marks and permanent marker drawn all over from where they made errors trying to install the first time. -We paid them to install soundproofing on a shared wall with our neighbor. Moshe himself noticed there was absolutely no change when he came over to check on the things, and could hear our neighbor's music as if it was in the same room. There was no suggestion on how to resolve or make the situation right on their end. We ended up paying thousands with absolutely no result. 2. Unreliable and Unprofessional Crew: The crew assigned to my project displayed consistent lateness and unprofessional behavior. The foreman was rarely around and the crew was often on break, resulting in wasted time. Their lack of professionalism extended to a disregard for my property and basic safety protocols. They installed a stacked washer and dryer without the provided stacking kit and when we were told it was ready for use, the washer ended up walking itself out of the laundry room and into a wall, further damaging the unit as well as the brand new floors we had installed. GMBC's reluctance to take responsibility for their mistakes and their laborers' inability to perform as professionals further added to my frustration. GMBC did eventually reimburse me for the dryer. 3. Missed Deadlines and Extended Delays: Despite GMBC's promises of efficiency, the project suffered from poor planning and an inability to adhere to timelines. The extensions of the project disrupted my daily routine and caused unnecessary delays. Inspections were missed multiple times, leading to wasted time and frustrated inspectors. I brought this up to Moshe and he told me the guy was in his car for one of the inspections and didn't see the inspector ring my doorbell. How is that acceptable? 4. Dishonest Practices: GMBC exhibited a lack of honesty and integrity throughout the project. They lied about placing an order for a specific closet door, stating that the one we had requested was out of stock but when we called the store ourselves, they had 5. GMBC just didn't want to admit that they had made a mistake. We had a similar scenario with the original shower door that they had installed where a subcontractor they sent to replace the original door stated that they had installed it incorrectly. Their poor record-keeping was evident when they failed to provide complete receipts for reimbursements. Additionally, they attempted to charge me for something I had already paid for. 5. Lack of Design Sense: They failed to deliver work of which they could be proud and omitted showcasing it on their website or social media. The solutions provided for an eyesore firewall and poorly done concrete work in the driveway were unsatisfactory. Their lack of effort to find acceptable options and costs left me disappointed and seeking help from other contractors. On top of everything, I was pregnant when the project started and then had a newborn when they were still working at the house. It was an absolute nightmare and so stressful. Moshe's attempts to fix things later were too late, and the inconvenience wasn't worth it. Eli got involved towards the end and seemed reasonable when it came to deducting items on the poor work that was done. My husband ended up fixing a number of things after they completed the job. Overall, my experience with GMBC was a disaster. Their lack of professionalism and poor workmanship make them a company to avoid.
