I received a flyer at my home and when I was ready to gather bids to re-do my roof, EcoStar is one of the contractors that I called. BEWARE: I have had this scripted sales pitch run on me previously and recognized it. It is offensive and super unprofessional. 1-The salesman/project manager(?) immediately shows you a picture on their phone of family/child/dog to connect with you. 2-They then work with you to identify what the scope of work is that you want them to quote. 3-Then they sit down and start scribbling different stuff and numbers on their tablet and asking you "are you with me?", or "do you understand?", etc., as they are quoting prices for each line item for your scope of work, to keep you engaged. 4-Once your head is full of numbers, and they've got you completely spun, they verbally quote you a number that is HUGE, knowing that you are going to absolutely choke. 5-Then they begin the process of appealing to your greed, by naming the various discounts, material left over from another job that they can give you for free, additional discounts if you will sign the contract immediately. 6-They then show you a number on their phone that is actually a pretty good price for your scope of work. 7-They keep pressuring you that they can only give you that price if you sign a contract right away because they're just finishing up another local job and they want to keep their guys busy in the area. 8-Then THEY REFUSE TO GIVE YOU A WRITTEN QUOTE. You have stated that you are gathering and comparing quotes and a written quote is standard. But they just keep showing you the number on their phone and insisting that this is your quote. 9-To make matters worse, I needed financing and was assured that a soft pull would be done to qualify me for the amount needed. Apparently, that finance company does not do a soft pull on your credit but an actual loan application. It was not a soft pull and the finance company actually approved a real loan, which has the potential to affect my credit. Fortunately, the local contractor that I selected helped contact the finance company and cancel the "loan". 10-The salesperson/project manager came out an additional day to discuss why the financing "soft pull" approval came in so low (inadequate for the job). When I again asked for a written quote he essentially told me that he was trying to help me and that the quote would be the contract and it was about 32 pages long. Wow! Like I'm too dumb to read your quote/contract because it's too long. Amazing. It is standard practice to provide a written quote, which I repeatedly told him. And got the same "I'm trying to help you", "The quote will be the contract that is 32 pages". At that point, I asked him to leave. I'll be honest, at the time I was so furious and offended that I could hardly speak. AGAIN, I HAVE HAD ANOTHER CONTRACTOR RUN THIS EXACT SAME SCRIPT IN THE QUOTE PROCESS FOR ANOTHER JOB. I THINK THERE IS A CONTRACTOR SALES SCHOOL THAT THEY GO TO BECAUSE THE TWO QUOTE PRESENTATIONS WERE IDENTICAL. ***All in all, the whole "quote" process was extremely unprofessional and offensive. I will never, ever interact with this company ever again. ADDITIONAL: I BELIEVE THAT THEY SOLD MY INFORMATION, BECAUSE I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN GETTING COLD CALLS FOR HOME RENOVATIONS AND ROOFING JOBS. When my sister and I decided to have concrete work done, we called Ecostar; our decision was based on a flyer we received at the front door. Our sales meeting with Tom Goldring convinced us that we made the right call. He was personable, knowledgeable, and attentive. After listening to our request, he gave us a few options. Once we decided on a plan, everything began to fall into place. Tom's timeline, total cost, and outcome were spot-on. He was in constant contact with us - in person, or by text, letting us know what has happened that day, and what will be happening over the next few days. On one or two occasions, Tom's supervisor, Jacob Suissa, showed up to give some suggestions, and to review the progress. He was friendly, respectful, and knowledgeable. When the crew showed up, everyone was efficient and professional. They were respectful of us and the neighbors, and always cleaned up each day. On the last day, they made sure the yard and surrounding area was clean and free of any debris or unused materials. It looked as though they had never been there. It seemed like, between Tom and Jacob, there was only one way to do the job......the right way. Although i don't remember them actually saying that, it seemed to be the theme of the whole job. Whenever we would tell Tom "thank you", his response was always "of course!" - with a smile. If I could give zero stars, I would. We had a terrible experience with EcoStar in just one week. Matan, the project manager, initially seemed professional and suggested starting with a smaller job like replacing our front door before taking on larger projects like new concrete or pavers for our driveway. It felt like a good approach, but everything went downhill after we paid the deposit. They rescheduled twice due to poor planning (including forgetting that they're not working Memorial Day), then kept changing the arrival window last-minute. On install day, they finally showed up over three hours late without any explanation. We bought a prehung door (which we sent Matan a link to and he approved it beforehand). But during the install, his worker took the new door off its new frame to hang it on existing frame that was 50+ years old. When we pushed back, Matan got frustrated and said he'd have to come back another day because it was a bigger job than he thought. We also told him that we wanted to remove our old storm door completely, but Matan kept saying it was "impossible" since it was attached to the exterior door trim. When we insisted that he finish it out as promised, he removed the storm door but tore off the trim, leaving an unsightly gap around our front door where the stucco stopped before the trim. He intended to leave it that way, saying it was our fault for wanting it removed when he told us it was impossible to save the exterior door trim. When we said this was unacceptable, he asked twice if we wanted to cancel, so we did. Matan ended it by complaining he wasn't making any money off us and stormed off while leaving his worker to put back our old door and trim alone. We hired someone local after and they did an amazing job removing the storm door cleanly and preserving the frame for the same price that Matan wanted to charge us for just hanging a new door on existing frame... Matan even wished us luck in finding someone who will do everything we wanted for that price. Well I'm so glad we did! read more

EcoStar replied to my Yelp Project request for doing 700 square feet of pavers. They replied within 24 hours and upon my reply, arranged for phone contact. The job required removal of old red brick, removal of old leveling substrate, compacting the surface, distributing leveling sand, and installing the concrete pavers. Pavers were supplied by me. Removal of the old sand and bricks were done by EcoStar. They had the most reasonable quote and had someone (Eli) come out to measure and make sure that the scope of work was understood. I had purchased pavers for the project two years prior and just didn't have the time and energy to do the project myself. In retrospect, I should have allowed EcoStar to supply the pavers, as they would have been able to secure better materials than what I procured through Home Depot. Work was done by a small team and finished in a timely manner. Old bricks that had been removed were stacked nicely and then reused. My neighbors liked the work so much that they hired EcoStar, so I supplied my old bricks - reuse at its best. They did what they said they would and did a nice enough job to get the attention of the neighbors. I would likely call upon them in the future for other construction work. read more

I needed a tall custom window replaced in my Oakland home on a specific schedule due to roommates. EcoStar gave me an on-the-spot quote, I paid a deposit and a subcontractor came the next day to take measurements. I was told the window would take 3 weeks to arrive. In the meantime, the sales rep contacted me several times, wanting me to meet his boss on the day of installation which I found pushy and unwelcome. They wanted to offer me discounts on additional work which I explained I was not ready nor looking for more work right away. During installation, they asked for another payment. I noticed a 5% credit card surcharge, which is illegal in California as of July 2024 (Senate Bill 478). I had to cite the law, but the rep insisted it was disclosed, therefore permitted. Not true. After installation, upon examining the work, I noticed the window had a green tint that I did not request. Completely inappropriate for a north-facing small room with just one window and the scope of work DID state "clear" glass. On the same day, the rep urged me to sign their completion paperwork. When I explained that their contract says I have five days to use the product before signing their completion form, he persisted, wanting to know why I would not sign immediately. I then requested the manufacturer warranty, which their documents say I am entitled to. When I asked for a window brand name, I was told Premier Windows. I had to leave several additional voice mail requests, and then only received a vague one page warranty - with no brand mentioned - that arrived via text one full week later. This experience did not instill confidence. Afterward I checked the BBB and saw 8 complaints in three years. Most were met with defensive responses, rather than accountability. It seems clear this team does not understand the business concept of "the customer is always right." Between the sales pressure tactics, the questionable added surcharge (that was not on the original quote,) the lack of transparency about the manufacturer and the delayed product warranty, plus receiving a green-tinted window when I thought I was getting a clear window, I doubt I would work with EcoStar again. They did not offer the professionalism I initially thought I would receive. read more

I had EcoStar out for a bid on a custom project to enclose the area underneath a hillside deck and turn it into a waterproof storage space. Jonathan, a project manager, came out along with another guy who said he was sometimes a project manager but mostly stood or sat around and didn't contribute. Jonathan went through the motions of listening and taking down the detailed scope I provided but kept saying he needed to check with the office or the warehouse for various things. The whole situation felt off. They left saying a bid would be coming. The next day, Jonathan texted me saying they had no crew available for the next two months. I replied that I had already said there was no rush. Two months was their timeline, not mine. I've waited 20 years to get this done, so I could easily wait longer. I also said that if they were not interested in doing or even bidding the job, that was fine, just let me know. I never got a response. If you have a complex or custom project, I would not recommend them. I had no budget restrictions and no urgency, but the communication and lack of follow through made it clear they were not the right fit. read more

It's boils down to this: If you like being pressured to sign up to pay $20,000 for a small bit of concrete work or $25,000 for pavers for the same size job, call this company. We worked with Johnny and redid our main floor bathroom. We started with a three legged, claw foot tub and a shower with four different decades worth of tile. We ended up with a gorgeous, functional space that feels more like a spa, versus a bathroom. The bid was accurate even when pipes needed to be moved, support beams changed. I appreciated that the bid took into account that our 1918 craftsman was probably going to have a few hiccups but that it wouldn't affect us, simply was handled. We started this in early January, our city took about a month for the permit and 4 weeks later we have wrapped it up. Our glass door will be installed in the morning. This company is very prompt in its responses. My project manager Miki Biba was very courteous. I think they are a new company and really need the help expanding. The work that they've done is amazing. The charges are direct and upfront, there were no hidden costs and everything was as contracted. We also have some extra work done and our project manager miki did not mind helping drilling a few holes here and there and removing some of the landscaping without charging too much extra. We had our fences done with pavers and a car cover. The pavers look amazing and we've got a pretty big area. The bricks were laid one by one and whole driveway feels solid. The project was delayed a week or two but that's just standard procedure for all construction companies. The workers were fast and they gave us quality too. Enrique the worker manager was very knowledgeable and efficient. And was very accommodating. I highly highly recommend if you are trying to lay some pavers, the price is not unreasonable and the work they've done is very satisfactory to me. A rep showed up and was absolutely sure I asked for a full roof replacement. Glad he had a sense of humor : even joked that for a small fix I need to go to one who made a roof originally when home was built since cement tiles have life time warranty. Mike from Ecostar was a total pro. I have been trying to get a project done for over six months and was being mislead or refused because the job was too small for the other companies I was speaking with. Mike came in, and established trust quickly. The job was exactly what he said it would be and the gentlemen he brought in to do the work were pleasant and efficient.
