We hired GMBC to remodel our kitchen, bonus room and deck. We have a 1912 craftsman bungalow and wanted to do the remodel in a craftsman style. We took the lead on the finishes but GMBC supported us with lots of discussion, advice, ingenuity and great craftsmanship. They answered our questions and addressed our concerns all along the way. We are really pleased with the high quality result. GMBC has several crews and I can only say that Jose and his team were consummate professionals who were friendly, polite, and took all COVID protocols seriously. They were respectful to each other and to us. They even put up with our puppy who busted through the plastic zippered door every single day to greet them. The work was on hold for a full year due to the pandemic. GMBC did not increase our contract (although we directly paid the increased cost of lumber and finish materials) and they did not pressure us to start before we were really comfortable doing so with the pandemic. Everyday my husband and I tell each other how much we love our house now. After 24 years, it is the home we've always wanted. I don't recommend waiting as long as we did- call GMBC and get it started! read more

RUN from GMBC! I paid $18k to fix a leak in my bedroom and closet and there has been no improvement at my home. I hired them more than three years ago and I paid for the full scope of work they recommended. My bedroom and closet have continued to leak every time it rains. I have given GMBC numerous attempts to fix the leak over the past 3 years, but the leaking persists. Two other companies have determined that GMBC did not do the work required to fix the leak and used improper materials. Moishe is the manager and refuses to resolve the issue. Horrible work. A Nightmare Experience with GMBC: Poor Craftsmanship and Unreliable Service Hiring GMBC for our renovation project was a terrible decision. The experience was a complete nightmare, with their shoddy craftsmanship and unreliable service leaving me deeply dissatisfied. We worked with Moshe and had numerous conversations about the quality of work but he did not care. The project initially estimated to take three months, dragged on for over a year. Here are the major issues I encountered: 1. Poor Quality Craftsmanship: The work done by GMBC was riddled with errors and executed in a sloppy manner. The foreman was rarely present, and when he was, he consistently overpromised and underdelivered. Their lack of skill and attention to detail was evident in poor flooring install, uneven paint jobs, and a complete disregard for precision. A few examples of their subpar workmanship, but by no means comprehensive: -A small deck featuring cracked spindles/railing. The wood was so discolored that we paid them more just to try to cover it up, with the end result looking even worse. -We paid them thousands to level our floor and install flooring, but the end result was warped and bouncy. After we pointed it out, they suggested drilling holes all over our new floors and trying to glue everything down. -A sliding shower door installation that was unlevel and featured a half inch gap all the way around. It was so bad that we couldn't even shower in the room without the bathroom filling with water. There were several issues such as drill marks and permanent marker drawn all over from where they made errors trying to install the first time. -We paid them to install soundproofing on a shared wall with our neighbor. Moshe himself noticed there was absolutely no change when he came over to check on the things, and could hear our neighbor's music as if it was in the same room. There was no suggestion on how to resolve or make the situation right on their end. We ended up paying thousands with absolutely no result. 2. Unreliable and Unprofessional Crew: The crew assigned to my project displayed consistent lateness and unprofessional behavior. The foreman was rarely around and the crew was often on break, resulting in wasted time. Their lack of professionalism extended to a disregard for my property and basic safety protocols. They installed a stacked washer and dryer without the provided stacking kit and when we were told it was ready for use, the washer ended up walking itself out of the laundry room and into a wall, further damaging the unit as well as the brand new floors we had installed. GMBC's reluctance to take responsibility for their mistakes and their laborers' inability to perform as professionals further added to my frustration. GMBC did eventually reimburse me for the dryer. 3. Missed Deadlines and Extended Delays: Despite GMBC's promises of efficiency, the project suffered from poor planning and an inability to adhere to timelines. The extensions of the project disrupted my daily routine and caused unnecessary delays. Inspections were missed multiple times, leading to wasted time and frustrated inspectors. I brought this up to Moshe and he told me the guy was in his car for one of the inspections and didn't see the inspector ring my doorbell. How is that acceptable? 4. Dishonest Practices: GMBC exhibited a lack of honesty and integrity throughout the project. They lied about placing an order for a specific closet door, stating that the one we had requested was out of stock but when we called the store ourselves, they had 5. GMBC just didn't want to admit that they had made a mistake. We had a similar scenario with the original shower door that they had installed where a subcontractor they sent to replace the original door stated that they had installed it incorrectly. Their poor record-keeping was evident when they failed to provide complete receipts for reimbursements. Additionally, they attempted to charge me for something I had already paid for. 5. Lack of Design Sense: They failed to deliver work of which they could be proud and omitted showcasing it on their website or social media. The solutions provided for an eyesore firewall and poorly done concrete work in the driveway were unsatisfactory. Their lack of effort to find acceptable options and costs left me disappointed and seeking help from other contractors. On top of everything, I was pregnant when the project started and then had a newborn when they were still working at the house. It was an absolute nightmare and so stressful. Moshe's attempts to fix things later were too late, and the inconvenience wasn't worth it. Eli got involved towards the end and seemed reasonable when it came to deducting items on the poor work that was done. My husband ended up fixing a number of things after they completed the job. Because GMBC did a fantastic job (which we are still loving till this very day) on our previous remodel, we decided to contact them again for another bathroom remodel. It was nice to see Eli again. We showed him the space and he gave us a price which we all agreed upon. From there, everything went as smooth as we could have hoped for. No major inspector delays and no plumbing or electrical issues. Total side note: After the demolition on Day 1, we discovered a storage area and some extra room which if we had known existed beforehand, we would have taken it into account with our remodeling plans. But In the end, we decided it wasn't worth the effort. They did clear out the storage area which had a few of the previous owner's belongings; quite creepy if I'm being honest. Since my wife and I are working from home these days, it was very beneficial to be around whenever the contractors had questions. Everything was placed exactly as instructed so no redoes or corrections. It was also nice to work with Armando again and their new project manager Tiffany. The entire project was completed in 3 weeks which was faster than we expected (a month). If we have any more work to do in our home, we won't hesitate to contact GMBC again. read more

Last January 2023 we had extremely heavy rains. Unfortunately my mother started having leaks on her bedroom ceiling under the 2nd floor balcony and the first contractor felt the cracked tiles on the balcony was the issue of the leaks inside the bedroom. Once the tiles were removed, the wooden structurer framing of the balcony under the tiles were extremely water damaged so our contractor told us at this point his expertise isn't in framing suggested we search for a new contractor to do the framing etc.as he didnot know a framing expert. Luckily we found ELI from GMBC Construction and he was great to work with during the entire project also he was able to start soon picking up where the other contractor stopped work. Anytime I had a question or concern he answered me promply and addressed my texts or calls. His communication , follow up and promises made were right on point. He continued to be right there for everything I needed to take care of this project. His team had to install a new sliding glass door, do framing, do the flash ,install new tiles and painted all areas that needed the touch up paint. As others have read before, I wish I could give him a higher rating than 5 stars. His assistant Claudia in the office was also great to work with and answered all my questions during this project especially during the process of the city permits. We ran into delays with mother nature- the rain and of course getting City Permits but at the end of it all, it was worth it. We have a great balcony and the work was high quality craftmanship. As far as price the prices quoted by the first contractor was nearly the same as GMBC. Great work by his team. read more

We hired GMBC to do an addition and kitchen remodel on our new (and first) home. It has been an unmitigated disaster, caused by incompetence and outright lying. Everything has had to be redone except the foundation. Plumbing, electrical, deck, roof, cabinets, doors, nails, etc. Unfortunately, some of it is now permanent and we can't afford to redo - namely the framing itself, which is "swooping" and at odd angles. Yet GMBC would constantly tell us "this is the way it works," and even lie about passing inspections, in order to just collect checks on their front-loaded payment schedule. The City of Alameda inspectors themselves have been urging us to sue and offering to testify, as they've never seen such poor workmanship. Every contractor who comes to the house says it is the worst workmanship they've seen in their careers. We're talking shattered windows, pipes spraying everywhere, waste water just dumping into the basement - you name it. We have videos, photos, and inspection reports verifying the situation. On September 28, 2021, we finally attempted to fire GMBC. Yet Eli Dagan, the owner, insisted that it was the foreman's (Armando's) fault, and that he would fix the errors out of pocket. Given our financial losses due the project, we gave him one more chance. The new foreman (Alvaro), fixed the specific items called out by the City thus far, but continued to make grievous errors (plumbing, electrical, roof, etc.). We finally cut them off entirely last November. At this point, we have been living with three children, in half a house, and only a microwave + toaster for a kitchen, for nearly two years (GMBC said the project would take 3-4 months!). We are deeply in debt, and are on track to spend roughly 2X the original GMBC estimate in order to complete the project, now using sub-contractors we are managing directly to save money, because no other GC will take on such flawed work. We are still only at ~80%, and keep finding errors and having to re-open walls at great expense. E.g. as I write this, a contractor is ripping open a wall to redo a pocket door - which won't close because it was installed wrong and bowing under the weight of the poorly framed house - at a cost of $3,200. We are at our wits end, and this has hands down been the worst experience of our lives. read more

GMBC deserves a 5+ star rating for our major construction project! We started the journey of implementing our vision of building our first floor and connecting it to the top floor by interviewing many contractors and construction companies in early 2022. After several proposals, we chose Moshe and his crew because of not only their expertise and their record of high-quality work but also their open communication and overcommunication approach. Fast forward a year and a half, and they proved to be the best choice we made. Construction in San Francisco, getting all the permissions, going through all the inspections, and getting the certification at the end from the city is not an easy task. Our expansion project was not the largest project GMBC has undertaken, but it was certainly one of the most intricate. It included an office/bedroom with closet, bathroom, laundry room, shoe closet, large storage closet, large wet bar and lounge, entertainment area, and more. That went along with craftsmanship: cutting new skylights, building a new concrete slab with radiant floor heating, meticulously tiling the bathroom and wet bar, and adding detailed crown molding, etc. We loved all the crew and their signing while working. They were always on time, opening the garage door at 8am sharp, and truly skilled at their work, especially the foreman, Moises. He and his crew aimed for perfection and to make us, the customer, happy. They were always willing to go the extra mile to ensure our satisfaction, even if it meant redoing parts of the work. Whenever we texted Moshe or Moises, they would quickly exchange messages, get on a call, or huddle with us to address anything. They were very accommodating when it came to change orders, always providing detailed documentation and ensuring proper signatures. That was particularly important to us as we were investing in this project for our own house and wanted to make many decisions along the way on top of the baseline plan; for instance, adding a drain in the garage, extending the new concrete slab into our backyard to build a patio with stamped concrete, installing a shed in the backyard, to mention a few. That said, various bumps happen along the way in such a project, and Moshe patiently and openly settled every single one to our satisfaction. In a nutshell, GMBC and the staff are trustworthy, responsible, skilled, hardworking, and do premium work. If we ever want to add a third floor to our house, on top of a hill in one of the coldest and rainiest times in San Francisco, we will give the work to GMBC again in the blink of an eye! read more

Would start off by saying, that MOISHE , Borensteine, did a awesome job of making sure we had the plan we wanted in the beginning. The price was set and it came in at what was promised., honestly we love are kitchen, of course there were hiccups,it was a major undertaking, having to remove alot of the ceiling and gut the kitchen. New floor and paint , new back sliding door and new kitchen window...A lot of people involved. A lot to keep track of, so if you plan something like this ,plan ahead. We are the most pleased with are new quartz countertops, and backsplash, it's beautiful..everything we asked for was delivered. So thank all that we're involved. I just want to add an update to our kitchen remodel experience now that it is complete. It is even more beautiful than I was imagining! Eli's team worked consistently, diligently and thoughtfully throughout the duration of the project. I had chosen a certain tile for my backsplash, but Alber, the project manager suggested that I go a different way and I took his advice. I am so glad that I did! It was so great to have helpful ideas from the team because I was really learning as I was going, and I was able to really trust everyone that worked on this project. Paco, who did most of the actual labor on the kitchen was committed to doing a high quality job and he was willing to do whatever it took to get it done in a timely fashion but with a great deal of care. He helped me choose the correct grout color for my tiles and troubleshoot little issues that arose along the way. Anytime I had a question or a concern, I was able to reach out to someone and get a pretty quick response. After the kitchen was done, there was one lingering issue that involved an outside tile company and Eli stayed in constant contact with me to help me make sure the issue was resolved. I think Eli is an exceptional contractor because of his integrity, fairness and consistent, respectful communication. It was a true pleasure working with him and everyone on his team. They are a group of honest, trustworthy people that are easy to work with and to me, those are the qualities in a company that are most important. Come along for a real picture. I'm going to be talking about this whole experience with GMBC. I'm pretty fair in my reviews, and I don't exaggerate like others. Before starting -- I don't monitor, I trust and let them do their work... NOTE: I provided all rough and 99% of the finished materials (except 20ft of electrical, 15ft quarterround, 15ft door trim) not cheaped out. We bought top notch stuff for what purpose it was for, lots of it was wasted and some of it was ruined. 1 - GMBC and 4 other bidders came, we took GMBC(30k to 20k,I provided materials so it's no discount) because they appeared top notch. 2 - project needed to be done at the end of april 3 - needed to communicate extensively (made that a point) 4 - we had 3 items needed: bathroom, new attic access, electrical sub panel replacement - was promised an "engineer" would review and provide some electrical analysis, never happened. Main problems: 1 - Lack of project management (complete lack - except for money collection -- borderline pushy, I have the text to prove it). 2 - Communication problems - few and far between (time delay, scheduling, excuses, failure on expectation) 3 - Quality of work was about 90% potato (2nd tiler was the only good guy) 4 - Lots of delays, and excuses. We felt like we were bottom of the barrel customers. Here's what GMBC stepped into: 1 - bathroom was demo'd by another contractor that we fired for wasting our time 2 - attic was not started 3 - electrical not started This should have been a cakewalk from my perspective, do the measurements, cut and build (bathroom was demo'd already)... then the attic should have been just cut open, reinforce and install FAKRO LWP 66809. electrical, not an expert, but I saw them do it in like 1/2 a day (no elec analysis provided)... 1 - project management sucked - was promised weekly arrivals to monitor progress and got really almost nothing. I don't understand the purpose. I bring something up and get no feedback for days at times. 2 - the crew, while they are nice -- they come in and drop tools, dinged our walls up, and can't really paint. I'm sorry none of them know how to paint well. 3 - lots of excuses... "oh they aren't part of our core crew" "oh i heard he's had some complaints before but I wanted to give him a chance" our home is not your experiment. Attic access was installed 100% not square. When confronted with this problem their words to me were "well we don't do /semi custom/ work" -- Please tell me how does mounting a prebuilt ladder, custom in any way? I was already stuck with them, and let it go. Then asking why it took so long, I got some other excuse about how there was extra work. They can't even put trim up flush... summer rolls around, wood expands -- now my staircase rubs, the trim is not flush (This was built by their BEST finish guy). There is tons of missing details, I can write a novel about this if the opportunity comes up. Bathroom build. We bought a schluter shower system with rough material. The guy tells me he ran out of material -- I see washers and screws in the trash, and he mentions he has no more. I saw his handy work and was appalled. I bought 120% of material to cover, and around 80% was up. The foam boards were not cut straight. All jagged and nothing aligned, not even flat in some places. some horizontal, some square, some rectangle. Potato quality... Std shower size 60"x30"x96" bathroom and they failed with 12 full sized boards. These guys put tools on our bed, used our restroom without asking, and damaged our walls and dropped tools on the floor. Response was "not our core guys, sorry" - type message. Asked why the bathroom was taking so long, was greeted with "permit submission delay". I asked union city -- when was the permit submitted, it was right before inspection date.., PM failure. The bathroom was most of the grief and it was mainly demonstrating that they had no clue how to project manage this. Many times I get "well our guys aren't use to the material being in the house" -- The material was in our house before you started (less the lumber for that one day) There's a ton more to say but yelp sucks too. All in all, after finishing up -- these guys walked out knowing they screwed this project good. Toilet tank is crooked, and cracked because they screwed in the tank crooked and stress cracks are formed. I had to repaint the restroom because it was (as my wife quotes) "a sh*t show". Lots of details left out from the horrid workmanship they left me (pictures to come). I'm an engineer, I might not be able to build a house myself, but I know exactly what goes into it. Pro Tip: You don't throw fast 5 on drywall that has broken paper then immediately paint, you clean the edges and then put on mud wait for it to dry then paint (which you didn't do, i have cracks and paint peeling to deal with) At the end, mediocre level of work for a premium price. Unsatisfied, not welcome back for sure. read more

We needed to demo exterior walls, some interior walls to get rid of old awful vinyl siding and add insulation. We also replaced a total of 5 windows. They then stucco'd and painted the house to completion. Moshe was very detailed in explaining the work and timeline. Let me just tell you that these are busy times for contractors. Even with how busy they were, they still took the time to address our concerns every step of the way. When you have an old house, you never know what you'll find. Believe me, we had very exceptional circumstances and they went above and beyond to address them. You must understand that they have many clients. When new things come up, they must also plan to take care of their existing clients as best as possible. Patience is the game. They will make it right. We had a small attic project we wanted to get done this spring (plywood in attic; install a pull-down ladder in hallway) and we inquired with Eli and GMBC Construction to get a quote. Quote: Eli was the easiest to work with during the quote process. He asked pertinent questions to understand the scope of work we were looking for. He didn't try to upsell us like many of the other contractors or consultants who came out. During the Work: The crew came out (3 in total) and took their time to carefully set up plastic to protect our furniture, bed, closet, etc. The crew was very respectful of my family, they worked very quietly (for construction), and they checked in with me when there were any forks in the path. End Product: The job was completed quickly and professionally and they used high quality products. We now have a lot of attic space to store infrequently used items we have around the house. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of a couple things. First thing was that the pull down ladder is installed a bit crooked -- It functions well, but visually, you can see it recesses a little toward one side. The other small issue I had was that when they removed the tape that held the plastic barriers from the our ceilings, it pulled off our existing paint. They did spackle all the spots but they didn't sand them down or paint them, so our ceiling has a bunch of spackle spots at the moment. I mentioned this to Eli and he offered to have someone come back but I said I'd take care of it because I will need to match the paint color. Otherwise, however, everything was great! We are very happy with the job that was done. read more

Highly recommended!!!! We stumbled upon GMBC construction on Yelp when considering to start our kitchen remodel. They had great reviews and the photos did them justice. After our free consultation with Eli the GM we immediately felt like we could trust him and his team with our home! He was easy to talk to, honestly felt like we had known him for a while. He returned a few days later with the plan drawn out by their engineer exactly the way we wanted it. They proceeded to contact our City office to get permits pulled for us. Considering the extensive detail of change in our kitchen layout, (appliances were moved to different sides of the kitchen), we had a supporting wall knocked down to have an open floor plan, they made an opening for a barnyard door for us to playroom, we were ready to spend a lot of money. In the end, we felt the quality of their work was worth the cost! Although because of covid, the shipping of cabinets & appliances were delayed and city permits held them back for inspections, they prioritized our remodel! They were there every weekday to work for 8 hours. Jose the foreman was super easy to communicate with and he took any issues we had and made it easy to deal with throughout the 5 months it ended up taking! They installed new flooring throughout the kitchen and living space and the quality of work was excellent! Eli was always available by text or call when we had concerns with the project. He even went to meet us at the cabinet store several times. Thank you Eli for giving us our dream kitchen! Everyone who visits us is so impressed by the design! Rewind 5 months ago, and the whole ordeal of restoring our entire bathroom and main entryway begins. The condo upstairs had blown a water heater and we came home to water dripping everywhere. The shared ceiling and our walls were completely soaked and damaged, and all the drywall and entire bathroom had to be torn out down to the frame. We chose GMBC to restore our home because A) we wanted control over the restoration B) the insurance company's contractor could not start in a timely manner. Without a doubt it was an annoying process to go through, but we are glad we went with GMBC. They did a great job restoring our home and we are happy with the end product. Do keep in mind that this was not a typical remodel as we had in mind that insurance was paying for all of this. My advice to anyone in this situation is to remember that you are your best advocate when dealing with an insurance claim. Thank you Eli for helping guide us through the process of ensuring that we get reimbursed properly for what was damaged. Moshe the manager of our project was a real pleasure to deal with and frankly we couldn't have done this out him. The project took a bit longer then expected because of delays between city inspection which was really unfortunate for there were some time periods with out work. With all the work performed I really appreciated the cleanliness and effort to make sure we were as comfortable as possible throughout the project and we also liked the communication through text or a phone call weather it was just an update or a question which really kept me at ease instead of my fear of potentially micro managing the project and getting zero sleep! GMBC worked on a 2-part project with us. 1 - they converted a water closet into a laundry room, and 2 - turned a half-bath into a full bathroom by adding a new toilet. Our San Francisco home was built in early 1900s, and several highly rated contractors told us that this work could not be done or tried to dissuade us. Come in Eli & Jose team... who made it all happen in about 1 month. The team did almost everything in-house - a major plumbing job, a new electrical line, partial wall removal, new double door install, patching tile, installing vanity/sink/toilet/lights, and painting. Throughout the project the team was responsive and pleasant, answering many questions and sharing frequent updates. Jose, the foreman and project leader, is a pro. He's knowledgeable across many construction disciplines and has a solution-oriented approach to every problem, which was pivotal here. We enjoyed his positive energy, enthusiasm for the work and quality and pride of workmanship. When issues came up, Eli and Jose were constructive and collaborative in addressing and resolving them. This was our first construction experience, so we didn't know much about ordering fixtures, which is a challenge with Covid. It would've been helpful to have done more planning in partnership with GMBC and have had more guidance before we started the project. Ultimately, it all worked, and we are happy with the final product. We would work with Eli, Jose and the team again. read more

When we purchased the house, there was prior termite damage. The termite damage was partially fixed before we purchased the house. But years later, these fixes appeared to be just patches. The roof over the front stairs was slanting. The eaves, rafters and beams were showing termite damage that was originally just covered up. We needed a new roof and also wanted to install solar, so we started looking around for a roofer/contractor. Most of the roofers wouldn't take the job, given the amount of termite damage and porch repair. Other contractors were too small to handle the different requirements (roofing, framing, electrical, concrete foundation work). Eli at GMBC was able to provide an all-in-one service and that is the main reason why we selected GMBC. He also recommended a very good solar company that came in after the roof was completed and finished the job just before year end. The roofer replaced most of the termite damaged eaves, replaced some rafters that were partially repaired by the previous owner, replaced fascia boards and gutters. Although most of the time there were only two roofers during the roofing process, they did a fantastic job and their work was meticulous. The original roof was wood shake, but they kept the attic and site very clean afterwards. I had a new solar ready electrical panel installed, a new concrete footing poured and new beams installed to lift up the porch over the stairs. I also had some vent pipes moved to make room for the solar panels. In general, the job took longer than expected with some rare rain delays near the end of Nov. In all, if there were any issues, Eli's guys were able to address them and get the project completed. read more

Eli is a professional wonder to work with. All in one package deal. Reasonably priced for the bay area. I needed A Lot of work done to an old house. My financials only allowed one project at a time. Eli worked with me on that, communicated really well during each project, went out of his way to meet me each time, and worked with our circumstances, for instance we still occupied the home during most of the construction. We hired GMBC to do the ground work and stucco for an ADU, plus a new fence line. After a long, extended project due to a little back and forth with city permits and covid, I ended up withdrawing GMBC's final tasks for the stucco on the ADU and new fence line. I was dissatisfied with how my main electrical panel was left uncovered to the elements for several months AND both the electrical and waste drain were not initially installed to code requiring a correction. The trench lines were also not repacked, leaving me with this large pile of dirt in my backyard and visible ground depressions above the lines. We couldn't come to an agreement on refund for the last two tasks (stucco & fence) so I was forced to refer to the CSLB. read more

GMBC did a light renovation of an office/den area that we wanted to close in and convert to a bedroom. They did an excellent job of the rough and door framing, drywall, door moulding and painting. It looks as though the house was built with this improvement when they were done. They sent a crew of 2-3 people daily to complete the job and it was completed in 1 week. I'm sooooo impressed by Moshe and his crew! They are very professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. They remodeled a storage room to a full bathroom within very reasonable time, given the challenging COVID situation. I reached out to GMBC via yelp, and Moshe showed up on the next day for a free consultation. We had talked to quite a few contractors before Moshe came. His consultation immediately stood out. He didn't give us an estimation within like 15 minutes; instead, he first tried to fully understand what we wanted and what the house had. He shared various options for us to pick from and discussed the pros & cons of those options very patiently. He even came to our place twice to make sure he collect all the necessary information (for example, where to place the sewer line, whether the old sewer line needed to be replace) before providing a quote. All those detail oriented consultant led to accurate quote and full transparency with us. Moshe has been responsive since our initial consultation. We texted him for questions / schedules. He's friendly, open, and he always replies timely. The crew are all employees of GMBC. I'm amazed by their expertise, work quality, and construction speed. They minimized the interruption with us. They very mindfully closed the door between our living space and the construction area. Every day when they wrapped up, they always carefully cleaned up the construction area. They even cleaned up the living space right next to the construction area, in case dust flew over. The construction was paused in the middle due to COVID shelter-in-place order, but once the construction was allowed, Moshe reached out to us to discuss when to resume the work. The crew soon picked up what was left. They also practiced social distancing. We are very happy about the new bathroom. Great and easy-to-work with contractor: We used Eli and the team at GMBC Construction for design/build on an ADU project in our backyard, converting office space into cottage that involved full drawings, plumbing, new roof, new electrical, new bathroom, new kitchen. GMBC is truly a top notch construction company! Their job was to replace our wooden deck with a type of wood seldom used called Kebony and design a sturdy foundation because we live on a hill. It presented a few challenges but Moshe and Jose quickly resolved them head-on! Moshe also coordinated the installation of our glass railing and now our deck is absolutely beautiful. The crew was always punctual, courteous and never took a break other than lunch and never any loud music nor smoking. Project manager Jose is a excellent communicator always informing about next steps including visits from the city inspectors. Dealing with the city to schedule and obtain permits, etc. is a hassle, but Eli took care of it all. They even picked up large items from the hardware stores for installation. We sought a quote for a kitchen remodel from GMBC Contruction and were connected with the owner, Moshe. He responses quickly and came over to understand the scope of our projects and goals. During the coming weeks he invited us to visit his suppliers wharehouse to get ideas for our design and materials. He even took us to a project he had recently compelted so we could see the quality of work he would provide and it was really quite impressive. During this process he share with us some draft designs which helped us visualize what we could do with out space and what was realistic. Don't use this company!!!! I hired them after the referral from another contractor. What they say will take a couple of weeks, has taken many months and is yet to be completed. I can't count the number of broken promises. Workers show up for a couple of hours once a week. The only time I see the contractor is when he wants his money. I hired them because I wanted licensed electricians and plumbers, but no one had a license. The first electrician ended up being let go. Others came to replace him, but they weren't much better. The inspector is unimpressed and has yet to sign off on their work. read more

We worked with GMBC for almost a year on our house renovation, and I would give them negative stars if I could. We started planning a kitchen renovation and second story expansion for our house in Piedmont, and found GMBC. Eli's initial bid was lower than any other contractors we talked to, and turns out it was for a reason. They're a complete fraud and I recommend anyone considering them to do proper due diligence to avoid a costly mistake. Scope: we asked GMBC to develop architectural, structural, and electrical drawings for our renovation. Duration: 12 months What went wrong: Fake architect - Throughout the duration of our project, we never once met the architect and the architect also never saw the house in person. We initially only communicated with the architect through Eli, who reassured us that he's a legitimate architect. Over the course of developing our floor plan, we discovered some devastating mistakes that the architect failed to capture, including significant elevation gaps from one room to another that would be completely inaccessible without stairs. When we asked to speak to the architect, Eli would always get defensive and we had no idea why. After a series of these mistakes, we finally spoke to the architect alone, who confessed to us that he doesn't know California building codes and isn't licensed to practice in the US. False electrical plans - Eli helped us prepare a set of electric plans for permit, and we later found out that the plans were plagiarized and he had stole the stamp from a licensed electrical engineer for our plans, even though the licensed electrical engineer never worked on our drawings. Complete ignorance of the permit process - In Piedmont, owners go through an extensive permit process. For the scope of our work, we would have needed to send our neighbors letters of explanation and appear in front of the board. We didn't know any of this when we first started working with GMBC. A few months into working together, we had given Eli the green light to submit for a permit, and a few weeks later, he told us that we had been approved. We then started the building bid process and began negotiating a final price. When we called the City of Piedmont, however, there was absolutely NO record whatsoever of renovations for our house. Eli never submitted our plans, yet he told us our permit was approved and we kicked off the building bid process. When we would ask him for a permit number, he would get defensive and talk down at us. Once we've done our homework and asked him whether he's prepared letters for our neighbors or ready for the board hearing, Eli was completely ignorant of the entire process. This whole process took almost one year, and we were left with no workable floor plan and no permit. When we spoke to other actual licensed architects and contractors, they pointed out the huge gaps that exist in all of our plans. We had tried to settle the matter with Eli in private, and he offered a whopping $300 for the inconvenience and lies. THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS. With all the raving reviews here, I can only imagine all the lies that Eli and GMBC told their customers. If they've done work for you, check, check, and check again that it was done with a real permit. They cut corners to make a profit, and they could care less about your property. read more
