Devin Marsh, project manager, came to assess my patio because I had used a vendor who had created a mess while "fixing" the patio floor. Devin understood the situation and proposed a solution. Jorge and Andy did the work to redo the entire patio floor and were able to undo the sloppy work, put down new materials, and make a beautiful space. They are highly professional and performed their work meticulously - I know because I was often looking through the window! They explained what they were doing when it hadn't been in the original contract (e.g., sloping the patio) and had all the professional equipment needed to do an excellent job. I live in Hermosa Beach. I had a small balcony and small deck redone...flashings, plywood...everything. This company was one of the few companies during my bid phase willing to use stainless steel flashings/scuppers/door pans. If you live within 5 miles of the beach, especially the first mile, galvanized flashings that see a lot of water don't seem to last very long. As far as the work itself...there were some issues with the stucco lath for the walls. I was credited for that. I used a plastering company that I've had good luck with to take care of it. Other than that the work was smooth. The price was in the middle of all the bids I received. The main reasons for the 5 stars are below. 1) The company didn't try to nickel and dime me and actually probably did some minor work for no charge. 2) It recently rained and I had some ponding water on one of my decks. I was asked for some pictures. I sent a video. No arguments or anything...they happened to have someone free a few days later and sent him out to fix it. That says a lot. My experience has been that once the final check has been written...it becomes really hard to get someone to come back for warranty/quality issues. These guys are great. I made a lot of phone calls trying to find a good company to waterproof a balcony. This seems like a bit of a niche market so there is less competition which leads to high prices and poorer customer service. These guys made me feel like my one balcony was as important as the apartment high rise that has 300 balconies. They treated me right, maintained communication and best of all, did an outstanding job. My experience from the first initial phone call, to the estimate appointment, and the job itself was nothing but pleasant. All the staff were friendly, professional, and provided great customer service. On the day of the estimate, you could tell they have extensive knowledge by the questions they asked and things they looked for on my deck. My deck sits above the garage and every time it rained, it would leak water into the garage. Once the tiles on the deck was demoed, it was obvious I needed an entire new deck system. They did a great job rebuilding the deck by replacing all the plywood, brand new flashing all around, and new scupper. Once the Life Deck - Life Paint Al Decking system was put on, I was amazed at the variety of options I had for color, texture, and design. The finished product looked better than I expected. I had already received other estimates and was very surprised to hear that this company will do nothing for less than $3100. I'm not sure why they call themselves a "full-service" company. First, waterproofing for a finished balcony that is stucco underneath is hard to find options. Most quotes I received were for roofing paper and tar, with a cover of carpet which is what the house originally had. I found West Coast on the web as they are local and offer Life Deck over plywood, which is what I had once the old floor was removed. The quote for 2 balconies was in range of the others, and once I gave the deposit, we had them on site to do the work in a couple days. The color was much lighter than sample card showed but overall it matched better to what I had. Later when I had questions about the work, or the fact that I needed to replace my railings a get some patch work done it was very hard to get a call back and I felt like I was bothering the receptionist. I had other work being done and I was trying to get things scheduled. When we finally got someone it was another of couple of days or more before I got a callback and was told that I had 2 options- patching but it would not look uniform , or re-waterproofing the tops to give it a seem less look. After spending close to 10k, I wasn't thrilled but I asked for how much. Have yet to receive the new proposal, and I shared that I found the materials at a lumber store. The response was that yes for a simple repairs I could buy the product and do it myself for-under $100 dollars, kinda gives me idea as to how much was labor, and I removed and hauled away the old top. read more

I searched the internet before hiring someone to redo two of our decks in Venice Beach. These are 100 year old buildings and salt air and age had taken its toll on the decks. I found Westcoast Deck through Yelp and relied on the many great reviews. I had previously gotten a bid from a high profile company that was referred to me. Their estimator made it sound like we needed to practically rebuild the entire framework, adjoining areas, and was extremely costly. Thus we decided to get a second opinion and we found Frank at West Coast Deck. This firm was so professional from Gilbert their estimator to everyone in the office. They showed up on time, and got our two decks done all the while dodging the rain and during the Christmas holiday. That year we were expecting huge rainfall in January and they came through in time to beat the storms. They did exactly what they said they would do and the decks look great and have performed well. We had to get them to come back to do a repair (due to additional construction on our part not due to their deck performance) and that was done today. Another great job. I would hire them again in a heart beat. Frank is a good guy, accessible and truly cares about his customer base and I'm a Realtor so I know customer service. They get an A+ from us! read more

Everyone we have dealt with at Westcoast have been fantastic. I've been a General contractor/ finish carpenter for 45 years and seen it all. These folks are top notch they do whatever is necessary to please the customer. They're are courteous, prompt, clean and professional. From my meeting with Frank my phone calls with Suany to Jose everyone we've dealt with have been fantastic. They have done work for us before and we were very pleased. We are so disappointed with the job they did this time. The company has not been responsive to our complaints. Their first mode of response is blaming us for any of our concerns. For this job we needed to have our entire deck redone and we were prepared for that. They took the deck down to the concrete (jack hammers were involved). We paid for extra grading and expected that the end result would provide a surface that would drain all the water away from the house and the jacuzzi. The water pools around the controls and the grouting around the jacuzzi. The extra canal they constructed is not draining they water away, it just sits on the deck. I'm afraid it's only a matter of time before we have more leaks. The job was not conceived and executed properly to begin with. They cut corners and the end product wasn't satisfactory. They were out many times to "fix" the problems which wouldn't have happened if it had been done the first time. In the end the problems have not been fixed to our satisfaction. read more

I called three different companies and West Coast was on time and totally prepared. Juan had given me the least expensive one of the three but also gave me more detail, eliminated the plywood that I didn't need, like the other companies said I needed, and painted the railing that had to be resized. He helped me find a color that would match the stucco on the house which he custom mixed for me. Also didn't need to access the balcony from inside the house he and his crew used ladders for the whole process which wasn't easy but I totally appreciated.
