This contractor is well reviewed with an impressive portfolio and highly qualified - BUT.. as soon as we discussed issues around the city permitting requirements, it quickly went south. From citing delays, potential added costs, etc. which is understandable. HOWEVER, we were able to acquire a simple "over the counter" permit from RPV which did not require submitting any plans, details, product specs, etc. since it was simply replacing current -- existing composite boards. After advising him of such, we get a request to meet and being told, he could no longer do the job due to a worker injury. While it may be the case, it just seemed TOO coincidental that this happens immediately upon my sending a text advising of the permitting. SOOO I guess the lesson learned from this case is if even licensed contractors express hesitations or push back about permitting.. STAY AWAY from them. Now we have to start the painful task of interviewing contractors and bids again.. THANKS FOR NOTHING iDeck!!!!

After several weeks Richard came out to look at the cracks. He assessed the issue and says he'd have Hunan ( as Bill was not there ) call me for an appointment. Week later Richard arrived to repair the crack. 8 months later the cracks appeared on the other corners. I reached out to Hunan but he had since left the company and Andrew took my call. At this time I was told the cracks must be a settling issue and as the did not replace the original base only railing posts and banister , he felt he could not continue to pay to have it repaired. Showed him the areas of concern and asked him to give him his resolution on getting the base repaired. It took about 3 wks for Andrew to provide me his quote. ( he was busy with clients and apologized for taking so long in getting back to me . We agree on a price and he is due to repair the base this Thursday . Richard arrived and repaired the base. It took him approx 1 hr. Keeping my fingers crossed no more cracks. I am giving only 4 stars bc of the issues I had with the base , not the company. I recommend the team and So Cal Stairs.

He rebuilt it from scratch with cedar planks and added the ventilation grilles, new trim, and handle. It fits perfectly and it completely transformed the exterior of the house. Every other contractor said to go buy one and cut it down but that wouldve made the door weaker. The attention to detail was relieving. Didn't have to tell him EXACTLY what to do and check on him. Minde is an artist. Every now and then, you get someone you really like. Last thing, on price he was very competitive. Not the highest, but not low balling either.
