Franklin, who came to do my estimate spent over an hour with me and answered all of my questions. The estimate provided was very thorough and included all possible scenarios. Jose and crew were incredible. My oversized deck has leaked on a regular basis since I bought my home in 2006. Every other year I have had to have someone in to repair it. Previous companies treated the cracks with filler and painted over the deck with some dreadful plasticized product. Inevitably, the surface bubbled in the hot San Fernando Valley sun and burned your feet through the shoes you were wearing. West Coast waterproofing had a complicated technique involving several layers of lathe, cement product( ? )and topped with an attractive substance that does not superheat. He explained the company is overwhelmed with a surge of proposal requests right now and they haven't had chance to update their communications. He addressed my concerns and handled the situation gracefully. You can tell he tries to do right by the customer. For that, I'm changing my overall experience with the company to 4 stars. Original review: This company is dealing with more customers than it can handle right now, and expect to wait 12-15 weeks to have your job scheduled. That's not the issue. The issue is they have not adjusted to the high volume of customers and update their communication guidelines accordingly. The inspector came to inspect our home 2 weeks ago on 9.27.23. He told us to expect the estimate in 4 days. I called the office following Monday to check on the status. The girl on the phone said it would take one week and should be done by Wednesday. I waited until Friday and still no estimate. I called again, the girl said it should definitely be done soon. This past Monday, the girl said it should be ready Wednesday (yesterday). I called a total of 4 times...still haven't heard anything at the time of this writing, more than 2 weeks since inspection. I had to put my project on hold because I was led to believe over and over again that I should receive my estimate soon. I don't even know if I'll ever receive one at this point. This is unprofessional and unacceptable. Please instruct your employees to give realistic expectation for an estimate and not stringing us along. This is a waste of time. read more

Since I started using West Coast to waterproof a new deck, and subsequent re-painting of several decks, I've never been worried about their expert personnel. These guys know what they are doing. Last week, an inexplicable major leak from one of the decks saturated the wall of a room below. There was no obvious failure of the deck itself. Frank Castillo, the owner, got back to me immediately. He instantly arranged for an independent leak detector to inspect - at my cost only if the leak was not West Coast's fault. The company is AFOX. They are excellent and found the leak was the fault of the previous contractor who did not properly caulk the Facia and other things. Frank was great throughout, very responsive and calming. Do not use these guys. They don't know what they are doing. We hired WCD to completely redo our deck. They seemed professional and we initially thought they did a good job. Then the rain came and we noticed lots of pooling. They were supposed to reslope our deck as needed, but they didn't do any resloping. They honored their warranty and re-sloped the problem areas at the same price as in our contract. We told WCD that they should remove our AC unit to make sure it was done correctly. They promised that they did not need to remove the AC and even specified that in the contract. Well, now there is new pooling behind our AC. These guys didn't do it right the first or second time. Now we are stuck with them since they have warranted our deck for ten years. So let's hope they can do it a third time. Don't make the mistake I did. Go elsewhere. read more

With the light rain, there were no issues with the water pooling very long...with the sun, it evaporated in a few hours. I had them redo my 20 year old decks that needed updating due to age and some minor leaks. The old travertine was removed, a few small squares of plywood were replaced and the new deck surfacing was laid down. Overall, I'd probably use them again, however, I wish management was more involved in the day-to-day process and supervision. Seems like they are understaffed - 2 days workers did not show up. Once due to "car problems" and a second due to no reason - I had to call to find out why no one showed up. I also had to point out the stucco finish was wrong (rough done instead of smooth) as detailed in the contract. It was corrected but caused another 2 day delay. Minor door fit issues were fixed after I noticed them. And, after they left I had to remove about 1/4 inch of stucco/ grinding debris from my sliding door track put it back in place... management should identify these issues - not the customer. My biggest issue - THE DUST. Pros: * Accurate Pricing * Pleasant staff (estimator, workers and phone) * COVID masks at all times * Quality deck work * Many color and surface options. Cons: * Inaccurate time to complete - 3 day estimate took almost 2 weeks... * Dust! Grinding while keeping doors open is a mess. Had to pay my cleaning lady double to clean. * Senior management doesn't inspect work - it's up to YOU to catch errors like wrong stucco finish, door closure fit etc. * Last minute cancellations (worker shortages?) At the end of the day, I can live with a dirty house and minor fit / finish issues to get my decks back in shape. read more

call around for other pricing. this place was more than double the quotes i received from other equally qualified companies. 90k was my approx quote compared to approx 35-4 from others. and i checked each items and detail to make sure it was a fair comparison. i even asked the rep at west coast deck to tell me what in the estimate was different and why was his quote so high. i received of course the same bs and empty response you get when they have no honest answer which is "we are not the cheapest but we guarantee our work". i told him that everyone else guarantees work so i'll go witht the others and save 50k. read more
