The most professional, knowledgeable, and truly passionate team I've ever met. From start to finish, the entire process was seamless. The owners are incredibly friendly and took the time to understand my vision, ensuring every detail was perfect. It's rare to find a company that consistently delivers top-notch service and impeccable craftsmanship, but LA Decks exceeded all my expectations. I couldn't be happier with the results and highly recommend them!!

Deck is 10 years old and just as fabulous as day 1. Thank you LA Decks

Professional, accessible, hard-working, detail oriented and quality focused are the words I use to describe LA Decks. You will be grateful for partnering with them to create stunning work. We have had our Ipe deck for almost 10 years; and it looks just as it did when LA Decks built it. It is great to be able to trust LA Decks to deliver quality services and products consistently.

I had LA Decks come out to replace my redwood railing with a powder coated aluminum railing for easier maintenance and to add steps where a section of railing was to be removed. Tal came out for the estimate and to give suggestions. He was very professional and showed up on time. Victor, the owner showed up on construction days to monitor the job. We couldn't be happier with LA Decks and the new railing and steps.

Finished deck, see foundation in previous deck pic. Note: they cut out chunk of concrete and fixed, called it "gratis".

Deck replacement. Deck resides on a slope, 36" at high point. The deck was completed and more or less met expectations, process to reach completion was somewhat less. The following documents part of my experience, depending on your impressions you may or may not choose this provider. The contract specified completion in two months, actual completion was in five. The project followed Murphy's Law: everything that could go wrong, did. Also, "Every shortcut has a price usually greater than the reward." There were a series of missteps, most of which can be attributed to the project manager: Nick. Additionally, Nick has a casual relationship with truth, declares items as gratis that should be included, refused to deduct cost of eliminated feature, and claims completion prematurely. I believe the workers were good, the only oddity was when they poured cement into footings from a height of several feet. The website is excellent, unfortunately it doesn't appear the company has all described capability. Recommendations- Check dates on reviews. When reference check, ask lots of questions. I initially asked references whether they were satisfied, later details emerged. One reference stated that it was a good company but there had been management changes, quality declined, prices escalated. L.A. Decks was not the least expensive, they were about 20% higher than other estimates. Know exactly what you want. Get permits, you want the work to conform to the building codes and you want inspections. Check licenses, go to CSLB, (verify the name on the license is your contractor). Check insurance, verify ALL workers are covered, beware if it says EXEMPT. Consider having the contract reviewed prior to signing, mine had ambiguity. Include a schedule in the contract. Request prior notification of their presence. Do not make any payment before contractually due. Document communications. Use cameras to oversee worksite. My experience began with Project Manager Nick's contention that a permit was unnecessary, he contended the job was a repair, not requiring a permit. I did not want to begin prior to March 1, 2025 when funds would be available but Nick pressured for a start date of February 24. They demolished the prior structure, but not the foundation even though the new structure would only be partially utilizing, construction began. The new deck framework has treated wood on dirt, while not expressly against code, many advise against. Nick repeatedly pressured for payment prior to March 1 and later prior to a phase completions. Funds were transferred March 1. Construction continued including wooden railing. Nick queried for color, I wanted it to match the house trim, brown, (included the manufacturer and color code). It was painted khaki. Nick claimed it was the color I specified. Received a stop work order from the city March 4, 2025, the city charged: construction without a permit. Also, received a threat of a mechanics lean from Ganahl; L.A. Decks claimed that was an automatic email sent to all clients. L.A. Decks didn't have a business license for the city. It's a requirement to conduct business in many cities. Nick thinks I should supply, it is a deductible business expense and is valid for any work the entire calendar year, not a specific job. We needed architectural and engineering plans. An additional cost to me, Nick hired firms (not in house as one might expect given their website). They drew diagrams of the existing structure which went to an engineer, the plans were submitted to city planning followed by building and safety. The plans were approved May 14, 2025. The city was very fast at turn around. Nick claimed the holdup was the engineer. Nick requested that I pull the permit because "it would be easier." First inspection was framework, inspector stated: the structure did not match the plans, fail. They added additional footings, second inspection for framework and foundation, second fail. Significant additional work. Licensed contractors are supposed to build to code, why was so much additional work required? For over three months I was unable to exit my house via the rear doors. June 23, they put down sheathing so I could walk on the deck. Unfortunately, at this point, they were nearly ready to cover the framework. They also put sheathing on the steps, the workers stepped through it. Although I never commented on it, for most of the build a growing pile of refuse resided in the yard. There were also piles of dirt and debris everywhere, I picked up daily. Prior to the third inspection, Nick arranged for the engineer to do a "Structural Observation". June 25, 2025, the inspection, contractor tried to show the inspector the report, inspector was not interested. This inspection was cursory, passed. Cover material arrived that day, work towards completion began June 26, 2025. July 3, cover material complete. July 24, deck complete. Not my first foray into remodeling, all had issues, this one was unique.

    IPE Brazilian wood deck .
    Roger B.

Almost a year after installation of my IPE Brazilian wood deck the planks are off sized during installation and now they are shrinking and show big gaps . I have followed instructions on oiling and have reached out to this company about this and they are brushing me off. In my contract it stated there would be a supervisor /owner on property everyday . He was there on the first day and last day. They left on vacation and left me with day laborers Shameful company . I retract every post prior to this .

They are well organized and Michael definitely has been doing this for a long time. The pricing for his company is more than fair for the high quality of work. Both James and Max were great when I reached out with questions, they were very responsive. A big thank you to his awesome team who helped build the deck and showed up everyday with a smile. One of the reason why I went with MG Construction was because Michael's eagle eye was able to notice certain detail of the job that that the other contractors who provided bids overlooked. Their workspace was always clean and thoughtful for our pets and family to traverse to and from the house while they worked on the project. And most importantly, the finished gate and fences were clean, high quality and polished... and better than we imagined! Our second project we just finished this past month was our deck (and roofing as our garage sits underneath our deck). They replaced our leaky wooden deck with new beams, proofing/coating, tiles this time (the whole nine) and it is perfect- complete with polished iron, a side gate to match our existing gates/aesthetic and touch ups where needed. Tal was very transpararent from the beginning and made us aware of the pros and cons for every material and promptly finished the whole project within two weeks. This contractor is well reviewed with an impressive portfolio and highly qualified - BUT.. as soon as we discussed issues around the city permitting requirements, it quickly went south. From citing delays, potential added costs, etc. which is understandable. HOWEVER, we were able to acquire a simple "over the counter" permit from RPV which did not require submitting any plans, details, product specs, etc. since it was simply replacing current -- existing composite boards. After advising him of such, we get a request to meet and being told, he could no longer do the job due to a worker injury. While it may be the case, it just seemed TOO coincidental that this happens immediately upon my sending a text advising of the permitting. SOOO I guess the lesson learned from this case is if even licensed contractors express hesitations or push back about permitting.. STAY AWAY from them. Now we have to start the painful task of interviewing contractors and bids again.. THANKS FOR NOTHING iDeck!!!!

In all my dealings with the contractors, I have never had an experience like what I had with YourDeckBuilders.com. Whenever I hire a contractor, I always make an effort to observe the workers to see how they do their job. If I watch any of them long enough, I would always notice something that is not up to par and had to ask them to do it correctly. With Angel(project manager) and his crew, however, I did not have a single incident where I thought they did a subpar job. It was always a pleasure to see how much attention they pay to the details. It was obvious that the crew takes pride in their work. It didn't take long before I felt perfectly comfortable to let them do their work and only check on the progress once in a while. Each time I go check, my spirit is lifted anew by all the fresh signs of quality workmanship. Besides the satisfaction with the workmanship, I much appreciate Angel's emphasis on safety. This is especially important to me because our deck is on a hillside. I was thrilled to see Angel's team putting in more than 50 deep footings(yes, I counted them), each one down to the bedrock supporting the deck. To this old engineer's eyes, it was clearly an overbuilt for safety, and I love every bit of it. I know in my heart that when the big quake hits, my family will be perfectly safe standing on our deck. In all my previous contractor experiences with any sizeable project, there was never a time where I didn't experience at least some stress and anxiety, whether on quality, schedule, cost, etc. During my entire experience with YourDeckBuilder.com, I have experienced nothing but excitement and satisfaction. It was a uniquely strange feeling that I shared with my wife and family repeatedly during the duration of the project because I could never have expected my experience with any contractor to be so pleasant. The guys at YourDeckBuilder.com are, by far, the best contractor I have ever worked with.

LA Railings - Modern indoor glass railing with matte black spigots -- sleek safety solution for staircases and landings in Los Angeles homes.

    LA Railings

    (40 reviews)

    Van Nuys

1-Star Review: Very Disappointing Experience With LA Railings (Van Nuys)…read more I am extremely disappointed with my experience using LA Railings in Van Nuys. Nothing about this installation went smoothly, and the final result still looks uneven. I was originally told the installation would take 1.5 to 2 hours, but the crew was in my home for 5.5 to 6 hours, which completely disrupted my day. The first major issue was the handrail installation. The brackets were placed 3.5 inches off the glass railing, which looked completely wrong for a narrow residential staircase. When I contacted the owner, he insisted that 3.5 inches was "required by code." I asked for the exact code because my research showed no such requirement. He later admitted there is no code, and agreed to replace them at 1.5 inches, which is how they should have been installed from the beginning. The glass installation was also problematic. The panels were not flush, requiring three separate appointments before they finally aligned them. Even now, the spacing between the glass panels is uneven -- one gap is noticeably larger than the others. If spacing was part of the design, it should have been even and intentional, not random. Another issue I was disappointed to discover is that the base they installed includes four weep holes. Weep holes are typically used for drainage in exterior or commercial installations, not inside a home. In a residential staircase, they simply look like four chips in the base. This was never explained or discussed with me beforehand, and it detracts from the clean, modern look I specifically hired them to create. What was most frustrating was the lack of accountability. I contacted the owner again regarding the uneven glass spacing, and he never responded. After all the issues and return visits, the complete lack of follow-up or courtesy was unacceptable. For the price I paid, I expected professional workmanship, accurate information, and proper customer service. Instead, I received misinformation, repeated corrections, and unresolved issues that still impact the appearance of my home. I cannot recommend LA Railings. The product itself could have been beautiful, but the execution, communication, and attention to detail were extremely disappointing.

We engaged LA Railings in the middle of the project, before we did any work on our existing stairs. We had two sets of non-floating stairs, a landing, and a set of floating stairs. The floating stair case, the most complex of the project, was made longer and wider, and having them involved in this piece of the project was important. We had new steel treads welded and the stand off bolts were welded before tread installation. Precise measurements and plans were very important. Sharam came on site several times before the project started and worked closely with our GC and Welder. I worked with Clalyton on the design. He gave me a few options, where the standoffs would be placed. I also able to visit the store front in North Hollywood. Sharam gave me a few different standoff sizes to try out on the treads after the hardwood wraps were completed. This really helped to decide the aesthetically the best size to use. The work crews that came out were very professional and helpful explaining the work and next steps. They took care to protect our home as most of it was finished work. It took several visits to complete the work (very large job) and do some adjusting. Sharam came out several times during the installation phase to oversee the work. Glass Railings really change and beautify your home. We had mostly metal railings, clean look, but now our floating staircase with the glass railings are absolutely the star of the home when you walk inside. Are they pricey? Yes, but even custom metal railings are expensive. These glass panels are tempered (think shower doors) AND double layered. If you have done any shower doors (we recently did 3 sets for 3 bathrooms) or installed new windows/sliding glass doors (I can't count how many we just installed!), glass is very expensive! Highly recommend using LA Railings and definitely wouldn't hesitate to use them again! Sharam, Clayton, and Staff were excellent!

I initially contacted Yair through Yelp, and he responded immediately to schedule an on-site walkthrough and provide an estimate. The project involved rebuilding an upper main deck, a lower deck, and two sets of stairs using composite materials (Trex/TimberTech). Because of the unique design of the house and lot, all elements were irregularly shaped, so I specifically wanted a true deck specialist. Yair quickly provided a detailed and competitive quote, offered expert guidance on design and construction details, and brought material samples to help with selections. His pricing was the most competitive given the scope of work, and he committed to an aggressive one-month timeline that was my hard deadline to ensure the deck would be completed in time for Christmas holiday parties. Yair's five-person crew arrived on time every day, kept the site clean at the end of each shift, and demonstrated exceptional attention to detail. The workmanship was excellent throughout: hidden clip systems were used for a clean, screwless look across the deck surfaces, countersunk plugs were used along the borders, and all cuts and measurements were precise. As someone who works in real estate development and is very detail-oriented about construction quality, I was extremely impressed with the final result. Additionally, the team went above and beyond by reinforcing the foundation and underlying framing to prevent future settling, rather than relying solely on the original footings that had been compromised by termite damage. Yair was on site daily to supervise the work and provide expert input on several challenging transitions and angles created by the home's layout. The project was completed in just 12 working days--ahead of the planned 15-day schedule--with no cost overruns. Overall, I highly recommend Dr Deck to anyone looking for high-quality craftsmanship, professionalism, and reliable execution on a deck project.
