We had an old sunken hot tub we needed removed and deck built over it plus sanding and refinishing the rest of our deck. Put in a request here on Yelp and had many responses but Barney/Evo got back right away. Met with Barney and had a very good feeling. Professional but friendly and easy going. He said his quote would be "not the most expensive and not the cheapest" and that turned out to be true. But the less expensive quotes said they'd get the job done in a day or two which wasn't realistic at all. Evo turned out to be the best choice and it was a pleasant and easy experience over a week or so. He, Jasper and the crew worked hard and did it right. One thing that always makes me hesitant is contracts but his wasn't completely one sided like others we saw, language wasn't just "CYA" but was also clear on what they'd be responsible for. We have an IPE outdoor deck that we have neglected and it has become gray and faded over time. We needed a light sanding/refinishing and stain to liven it back up. Barney and Jasper did a great job on recommending a great stain for our project - one that they thought would preserve our deck the best based on the type of wood we had. They were also very patient with my wife who had a hard time choosing what color stain she wanted (they had to go to home depot several times until my wife was happy with the sample stain color). I am a senior (60) on a limited budget living in Silverlake & I had recently purchased a large gazebo from Walmart when it was on sale...I needed someone to assemble & install it on my back patio...with the recent weather, I needed to cut down on the heat emanating into my non-air conditioned apartment... (( And Barney from Evo came to my rescue..!! )) I had spoken to a number of Yelp recommended handymen, but ALL of them either just blew me off or quoted me astronomical prices to just come over for a few hours for this small job... But not Barney: he understood my situation, gave me a reasonable quote & showed up that weekend on my schedule for the work...he even came by a couple of days later for a few "finishing touches" and to ensure the job was done completely... I hired Barney and his buddy to build a pergola for me in my back yard. It was a 16'X16' wooden one that they built and painted for me. The price was fair, the work was prompt, and the outcome was excellent. Any hiccups (as there always are) were easily worked out. If you are looking for a pergola, I'd highly suggest giving Barney a shot. I looked up many DIY pergola kits, but found that none of them met my needs in terms of dimensions. In addition, to DIY design your own pergola is a nightmare, not to mention the actual building process is a two person job. Go with the experts, and Barney is definitely one of them. He also gives great advice in terms of customizing the pergolas; at his suggestion, I added a trellis top so that plants can more easily weave along the roof. Thanks Barney! read more
