I spent more than a year chasing down a wood pergola specialist who could either fully repair or rebuild my pergola. 3 out of 4 columns were completely rotted and some overhead wood was also rotted. When the other companies actually called me back, they quoted me $17,000 just to replace the columns and up to $30,000 for a full rebuild. They were kind to our dogs, which is incredibly important because our big dog is a pit/shepherd mix and he can be very reactive, but they were great with him and he loved them. Hired Jack for a 9 door $2000+ job. Generally pretty rude and condescending whenever we had questions about the installation process. The work was ok but not great as there were some mistakes (tight door knobs, crooked pocket door, water leak) and demanded payment before the job was done. The worst was this terrible water leak from the rain through the garage door he installed and got on our expensive rug. He did come back but didn't address the issue, apologize, or take any responsibility. He moved our pavers to take a look and didn't even have time to fix it to how it was before. Double checking his work after he came back, I realized he didn't drill a hole for an interior door knob lock so you can't get locked out. I asked him about it and he claimed he didn't know anything about locks, wow. Blatant lie but will just have to pay someone to fix his mistake. read more

"Hired Jack to hang bran doors. He was quick to respond which is great and said he'd like to come see what the job entails, another good sign but when he came, he didn't really do much but look at the wall. Unfortunately our $1400 barn door was ruined. One, he didn't follow instructions which said to hang the track on the inside edge of the doors. See pictures of instructions. He asked me if he should put them in the middle because he suggested it will look nicer so I agreed. However I didn't know that the instructions specifically said to put them on the inside edge. This caused the stoppers not to work so the doors banged into each other. Instead of apologizing for not following instructions, he blamed me saying I asked him to hang the wheels in the middle and left without coming up with a solution! Second, his work was sloppy and he hung a couple of the tracks so they are not level. This is causing the doors not to close evenly from top to bottom. So the top is closed but by the time you get to the bottom, there is a huge gap. See video. Jack kept blaming this on the wall not being straight and kept messing with the flat track on the wall itself. But the handyman I brought in immediately saw the wheel track was not level. Unfortunately, there is nothing he can do about that because the holes are drilled into the wood so our doors will always not shut properly. Third, after wasting all day on the flat track blaming the wall, he was in such a hurry to leave he didn't even install the floor guide for the doors and basically left me with an unfinished job. A door that doesn't close evenly, has no floor guide to go in a straight line and no stoppers to stop from hitting each other. He was fair in that he gave me back $400 from the $800 I paid but it cost me another $600 to have someone else come and find a creative way to get the stoppers to work. He had to saw them and shorten them. The handyman I brought in (Todd Brown) really cared and spent all day figuring out solutions and salvaging whatever he could. In comparison, Jack didn't care to solve the problems he created because he "spent so much time already" and was in a hurry to leave with no apology or responsibility to fix the mess he created. In essence I paid him $400 to ruin the door and someone else $600 to fix it. He also hung some white curtains for us unevenly and got them all dirty. Don't know if it was him or his assistant because I wasn't supervising. Todd fixed that too. read more
