We have used YourDeckBuilder for several projects at both of our homes. We mainly worked with John on the planning and Angel to run the projects. They did an outstanding job and I feel the are the best wood deck builders in Los Angeles. When we moved to Hancock Park, they redid a large wall for us and rebuild a bridge across our backyard creek. They do amazing work. They also added a fence for a private garden. They are fast and trustworthy. I would highly recommend the entire team.

I had a twenty-five year old second story deck, which had severe dry rot and was structurally compromised. Unfortunately replacing the floor boards was not an option. When I met with John, my project manager, he gently laid out what was needed -- a complete replacement. He was exactly right. John was more than willing to hear my ideas about building a deck with the same footprint, however he also put forth a brilliant design idea: an expansion to increase the square footage by half again. The project bids came in fair for the quality of work proposed, and I had a range of prices comparing redwood to Brazilian ipe. I went for the deck expansion in ipe and was so happy I did. The YDB team led by Angel, who is a master deck builder with 30+ years of experience, did an amazing job from start to finish. Angel consistently overbuilt the elevated deck, from 2 large laminated support beams to waterproofing to thousands of pounds of cement footings dug down to bedrock. Although I had to wait months to start the project to accommodate their busy schedule, it was more than worth the wait. The deck is an amazing compliment to the house and will be enjoyed for years to come.

Another view of my yard. It's a wraparound deck. Loving it!

Wow, wow, wow!!! I'm simply blown away by the crew and quality of work and product from Your Deck Builder. It started with a prompt response from John Simons, where he quickly met with me to understand my needs and provided me with various ideas and a proposal. After reviewing three proposals, I picked YDB partly because of John's friendly no-pressure professionalism, his great advice on the materials, the company's ability to start work quickly, and their reasonable price. When work started, I was even more impressed. Angel, as the job supervisor, ran a hardworking crew who worked efficiently and happily together. They were excellent listeners and held on to the motto of "let's do what it takes to make our clients happy." I felt it with every interaction. At the end, they built a beautiful deck that greatly enhanced my backyard and they did everything in record time! What more can I say? Well, I wish all contractors were like YDB. John, Angell, you have in me a lifelong fan and I'll send referrals your way and also happily be a reference anytime!!

Finding good contractors in LA is far harder than it should be. A notable percentage fail to show up for appointments or follow-up afterwards. Of those that do show up and follow through a huge percentage of them are simply unreasonable in their offers. (I once had someone quote $17k to redo a small bathroom!) John and the crew at YourDeckBuilder.com were not like this at all. 1) They showed up when they said they would and followed up when they said they would. 2) They didn't try to sell me a Brentwood-level ipe deck for my little house in the hood. 3) They listened to my needs and came up with a solution that made the most sense. Our project was not that big. We needed a new back stair for our awkward back door. The team at YourDeckBuilder.com came up with a solution that works really well and we couldn't be happier. The next time we need deck work done I will only make one call.

Everything about our experience with YourDeckBuilder was smooth and first rate - they make quality and customer service a top priority! We were looking to build a small hillside deck to supplement our existing backyard. We talked to several different companies over the last few years and YourDeckBuilder clearly stood out. John Simons was our direct contact and immediately put us at ease with his experience and understanding of what we were wanting to accomplish, and his bid was very fair given the complexity of our project. The crew, headed by Angel, was nothing short of stupendous. They were professional, punctual, clean, and most of all master craftsmen. Since the deck was on the hillside, the crew did the required extra work to level the area and provide a solid foundation and any needed retaining support. They also improvised to make the deck fit organically within the slope and the trees. They were very sensitive to the surrounding trees which was our highest priority. The deck was built using Ipe hardwood, which requires a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail, and it certainly shows. We are extremely happy with the result and would whole-heartedly recommend YourDeckBuilder!

We could not be happier with John and his worker Marco who came to our home and refinished our Pergolas. The wood on our pergolas had gotten very damaged over the years and turned an unpleasant dark grey color. Marco spent so much time at our home power washing; sanding and hand painting/waterproofing our pergolas. Marco was so detail orientated, I could not be happier with the finished product!! I would not hesitate to use YourDeck Builder again for our future projects and highly highly recommend using them! Their prices were also extremely fair.

Look no further, these guys are the benchmark for great deck builders. Building a deck is not cheap, in all honesty the sticker shock will have you thinking about your newborn's college tuition. So picking a company where you feel you're getting your moneys worth is crucial. I really liked John who was my project manager, the man who quoted me, he's a lovely guy who definitely made me feel like I was in good hands. After a good amount of time mulling it over with various quotes from various companies, I decided on YDB. Their quote was reasonable, coming in at nearly half of the price I got from one company. Their approach was simple, build beautiful all redwood decks to your liking. The other companies tried to sell me on newer materials which go longer without maintenance but i personally didn't want it to look and feel like plastic. The other sales reps were nice enough, had lots of sales materials to show, could prove nice work, but often included badmouthing other contractors and builders, claiming they're the only ones who truly know what they're doing, and that the bad reviews online were competitors trying to steal their business, not actual customers. John was chill and had no problems with any of my ideas, they were clearly ready to build the biggest baddest deck they could using high quality redwood, using every inch of usable real estate I had. The speed at which they worked was insane. Day 2 was the most memorable - they brought an army and they dug the pylon holes, mixed and set the concrete, installed and weather protected the main posts, and built almost the entire subframe... in one day! Mind you this is a 400sqft deck we're talking about. Angel was the best, the foreman who made my vision for this deck into a reality. He's the brains and his approach, which I appreciated, was to overbuild everything. No doubt, this thing is rock solid. He rolled with the punches and I felt we were definitely on the same page as far as design went. My only suggestion to those looking to build decks. It is vital that you check the progress regularly and make sure everything you are seeing is up to your standards. This goes for any company you hire, they arent mind readers. Because my project required some demolition to my existing house, we didn't know what we would find once we started tearing away. I came home and wasn't satisfied with the amount of waterproofing that had been done to an exterior wall we had exposed to make room for the new deck. So we chatted, and for a little bit more money they were happy to take it to level 10. Full stucco finish and concrete sealed the base of the wall to the foundation to fully protect the guts of wall from the elements. Anxiety eliminated. I really appreciated their "if you're happy, we're happy" attitude. Shout out to Mauricio, who was here every day, sometimes by himself. He was happy to ping pong ideas for details back and forth with me and Angel. The team and made me feel very at ease leaving for work everyday, feeling confident they were doing the things I asked for. The project took only 2.5 weeks, exceeding my expectations. And the build quality is outstanding. Friends are blown away, neighbors walking by are telling me how I've stepped up the neighborhood and increased everyones property values, and my dad - a very critical guy with lots of remodels under his belt - was thoroughly impressed as well! "I can't believe you found these guys on yelp!" he said. Well, I did, and paying it forward here with this review. This deck is a statement. My little house now looks like a million damn dollars. Literally. If you want a quality real redwood modern deck. These guys are it. The name says it all.

YourDeckBuilder went above and beyond on our deck replacement. We received multiple bids, but liked John the most out of everyone who came out and his prices were very competitive. The entire team at YourDeckBuilder was very professional and very helpful along the way. They were patient with our requests (many of which related to the skirting options for this heavily elevated deck), and worked with us to customize a solution that we thought worked best, all while maintaining their original quote (despite lumber prices being up 2x from time of signing the contract to completing the job). Angel was our foreman and Lewis was our install team lead. Can't thank these guys enough for a job well done. Highly recommended!

John and the team are absolute professionals. Excellent design input and communication. Finished our deck in a timely manner and it came out beautifully. I received many many quotes and they were the best bang for the buck. Loved working with them so much.

Worked with Your Deck Builder on the demo / rebuild of our 700 square foot / 25 year old redwood deck. Project started 06/18/20 - completed 07/14/20. Interviewed three contractors for the project. Matt was the most knowledgeable, detail oriented contractor - immediately grasped the scope of our project and had several excellent ideas that were implemented as part of the job. He explained all options in great detail and his price was competitive, based on the services and materials offered. Matt's crew (Angel - construction foreman / John costs) were top notch professionals - always on time, working hard, answering questions, and complying with requests. Our project was not easy and required several methods of reinforcement / waterproofing to prevent future damage. All work performed beyond expectations - the craftsmanship is simply exquisite. We chose Ipe decking materials with Balau posts. Angel was able to incorporate a couple pieces of our old deck that were still in good condition to save costs. The project was completed on time, within budget, and is beautiful. We were extremely pleased with Your Deck Builder and give them our highest recommendation!

We were looking for a patio cover in 2025. Met with Tony Alumworks designer. We liked the materials…read moreoffered, and he understood what we wanted. Got an estimate and contract from Business Manager Jenny. Drew, the owner of Alummworks, took measurements, and offered good advice. Installation was set for 12-19 2025. Crew came early and got to work. They looked organized and knew what to do. Later noticed that there were two spots on wall where one beam was to be attached.. The foreman, Kevin, said they made a mistake with where it went. Stucco was ruined but too late. Came out a minutes later and they had drilled the other side then moved it back to the original spot!! Three times and first time was correct. A cover is extruded metal. Made to be straight and square. There is NO way to make it go in ANY other direction. Damage was done. They cut notch in roof fascia for clearance. Fascia had been cut for the two wrong spots and wood scraps stuck on with caulking. The beam was making contact with fascia allowing for wood rot when wet. Installation started 12-19, finished 12-20, Kevin said that ours was the last job before their holiday vacation. I contacted Drew 12-22. He left for holidays. He returned 1-5 and came 1-9. I looked at the cover and saw many small holes on the other attached beam that were plugged with caps. When Drew came I asked what they were. He said he did not know. Later saw that those holes are to attach the roof to the main beam. 32 holes total. They measured wrong and kept drilling wrong holes. Instead of realizing the beam was ruined the decision was made to install, plug holes, and not say anything. I started to repair the stucco. Kevin plugged 12 holes. Sloppy repair so I removed it. There was no wood inside the wall and the beam was not attached. I opened the inside wall. NO wood and the beam attached with 1 out of 6 bolts. When it was installed they did not hit wood so decision was made to use only one and not say anything. With an issue like that work should be stopped and a different approach used. I never would have found out except for the ruined stucco. Leaving it like that was completely unsafe to our personal safety and our house. I contacted Drew who dismissed it, defended Kevin, and called it "embarrassing". When I sent photos his attitude changed. He didn't come to look but suggested a "fix" that was not doable with broken stucco and cover assembled. I'm sure he understood what happened and what was needed to fix. At this point I had NO confidence in Alumworks. I made a wood "plate" fastened to the framing to surround the un-attached beam fasteners and fill with construction adhesive inside the wall. Long complicated repair that was the ONLY way outside of disassembling the entire cover. I had all stucco repaired and a hand applied finish done. House is sprayed stucco so the repair does not match. I cut a gap in the fascia around the beam and replaced the sloppy "repair" wood pieces. Over 40 hours fixing these issues. I messaged Alumworks and shared photos of repairs. Jenny responded someone would get back to me. Weeks ago. No contact since. I don't like to leave negative reviews for small businesses. This was such a blatant surprise I have no choice. The 4K materials and Solara louvered roof are very well made and what we envisioned. Unfortunately the Alumworks installation and the complete lack of respect for us and our home, concern for their work, and followup is horrible. I am angry that I had to finish job I paid for. I overpaid for what was promised and contracted for. The bad beam and stucco will be a reminder and the installation will always be suspect. This is also an indicator that the warranty with Alumworks is worthless. This was supposed to be a fun purchase. We are completely disappointed. This was not the first cover this crew installed. Makes you wonder about them all.
