We had called a few vendors looking for quotes and expected to have to pay an egregious amount of money to have a gate installed. My wife and I purchased a home and decided to do quite a bit of remodeling before moving in. Part of the remodel was going to be replacing the block wall, electric gate and pedestrian gate at the front of our driveway. We needed the following work to be done: 1. Demo and rebuild block wall 2. Demo old electronic gate & pedestrian gate and install new ones 3. Upgrade electronic gate to work with remotes, phone apps, etc. 4. Install perimeter fencing around our property So, I started calling fence companies and I quickly learned that I was going to most likely need to use three different companies. One to demo and rebuild the block wall, another to build the iron gate & handle the perimeter fencing and yet another to handle the automatic gate opener. Wow, that sounded super frustrating and I did not want to have to contact three different types of companies! But then I called the GateMaster and all my problems disappeared, lol. I spoke with Juan and told him what we were doing. He said no problem, he could demo the wall, build us a custom gate (one for cars and one for pedestrians), handle the building of the new block wall and he could even do all the wiring and set up so that our gate would be fully automated. Great! Juan came out within a day or two and gave us what I would consider to be a very fair estimate. Based on all of his 5-Star reviews here on Yelp, I gave him the go ahead. He IMMEDIATELY got to work, which we really appreciated becuase lots of other companies told us they wouldn't be able to start for anywhere from two to five weeks! In 2021, thieves stole the catalytic converter from under one of our cars, so we decided to have an electric gate installed to protect our vehicles in our driveway. I was somewhat taken aback by the first estimate I received, from J.P. Perez of The Gatemaster. So I got several bids from other gate contractors. Some were higher, and some lower. But after thoroughly investigating all of the costs of the actual work, guarantees, etc., I returned to The Gatemaster since J.P. Perez's bid was by far the most comprehensively itemized estimate for the total project -- from design, construction, electrical, motor, and installation. When I told JP that I was inclined to give him the job, I asked for some references from his other customers. He seemed surprised, and almost offended, telling me that no one else had ever asked him for references. In response, I told him I wasn't accustomed to spending over $15,000 on a household project without customer references. He soon called to tell me that clients were reluctant to give their addresses to strangers who wanted to come look at their gates. So to put my mind at ease, I went to Yelp and contacted the handful of people who had reviewed his services and asked if I could call for a reference. Fortunately, a couple of them agreed. And when we talked, they assured me that the quality of The Gatemaster's work, workers, and follow-through, were topnotch. So we hired The Gatemaster, and it proved to be an excellent choice. We had consultations on what kind of gate would work best (sliding vs. barn door style), where the motors would sit, and how it would all operate. In order to hook up the motor, we needed to bring power from an electrical box several yards from the driveway. JP said he could contract someone to do that, or we could use our own electrician, which we opted to do. To ensure everyone got on the same page, I asked for another meeting with JP, our electrician present, plus reps from an awning company that was going to build a carport canopy over the driveway. Finally we discussed the design of the gate. We wanted it to match the other gate on an adjoining patio. JP surprised me with several well-rendered drawing variations to choose from. I modified the one we liked the best, and they executed it exactly as designed. The gate was constructed in stages: First the electrical needed to be laid, then posts installed to hold the gate up, as plus a pedestrian gate door. The wrought iron for the face of the gate took the longest to manufacture, but JP kept me in the loop with updates and photos. On the final installation day, it took several men to lift it from the truck and hoist it onto the sliding gate frame. The result is truly beautiful. JP programmed and activated the motor, added a keypad for operation inside the driveway, and provided 2 remotes to control it from our cars. And Voila! A driveway protected by a gorgeous, wrought iron electric gate, made with top-notch workmanship. But, one cold weekend about a week after installation, the gate would not open and we needed to get somewhere. JP was home laid up with a back injury, yet he pulled himself out of bed to re-set the electric eye of the gate that had gone off line, explaining that this sometimes can happen with a new gate, until it settles in. We have received many of admiring comments, especially from our neighbors - who see the gate a lot more than we do. Installing an electric gate is a process that takes time, and it was reassuring to have JP Perez as our contractor. He has a serious demeanor and an almost military formality, addressing me respectfully as M'am. His deliberateness, communication skills, and commitment to high quality workmanship made for a deeply gratifying experience. "The Gatemaster" is a well-earned name. Highly recommended. read more

I was having a mechanical/ electrical issue with the motor on my swing gate. The motor wasn't installed properly by a previous installer (my fault for cutting corners). Juan came out and spent two hours doing a thorough diagnosis to find the root of the problem. He didn't up-sell me on replacing my motor, but rather a more cost effective solution in swapping my old motherboard for a new one. The following day, I was having an issue with the motor and he came back out the same day (a Sunday at that) and addressed the issue. Juan was honest, pleasant, knowledgeable and professional.
