Star Steel gave me a fair price and was able to complete the steel gate needed within 3 days turnaround time. The reason why I had to knock off a star is because the initial gate that came had the handle/lock box on the wrong side of the double door entry. And instead of just going with the way it was fabricated, I insisted that I must have the handle/lock on the correct side. I had heard of Star Steel and the reviews looked pretty good. The owner Eyal came the next day with his assistant, right after i called. Very fast, he offered to look at our needs. We needed four handrails with posts on different staircases around our home. . The price seemd high but I did not complain. I authorized the work and said they should call in a week to arrange the install. However, they called to do the work as soon as I came back from a trip and tried to come on the wrong day. I insisted the install must wait to the next day, in the afternoon. . The next day, the two installers came in the late morning, before I was home from my errands. They went ahead and started installing the outdoor section, and I arrived home while that was being completed. . I noticed the assemblies were only painted with gray primer, not white as requested on the order. I asked these installers (NOT Eyal and his first helper) about the color; they said that is done in the shop. Nevertheless, the welding quality and steel quality was excellent, so they finished installing all four assemblies and spray painted the outdoor unit with my paint, at my request. . They did not bring the baseplate covers, but cut off some of the protruding bolts for safety. And they forgot to cut off other bolts. . We asked Eyal to arrange the painting, but then we decided not to let them do any spray painting in our living room (where their assemblies were now bolted to the floor). Eyal came himself, cut off the remaining bolts, and bought us a can of new white paint so we could finish the paint job with our own care and concern. I also asked Eyal to get us 9 baseplate covers, which he agreed to do. However, after calling for about 2 weeks, he could not get any, so I purchased my own and modified them to fit where needed. (He did call me in the third week and offered me the covers, but by then I did not need them.) Now, with our paint job and our baseplate covers, the job looks really nice. STAR's welding work is excellent, but I just wish they attended more to detail on small, close-up projects like this. read more

I would not recommend Star Steel at all. I'm in Chatsworth so everything get's a little marked up - that fine. He quoted me a year ago and bothered me every day till I told him to stop and promised I wouldn't do any repairs to my sliding gate till I called him first. As promised, I followed up when the gate final died this July. He showed up, we agree to increase the quote by 10% for all the known reason at this time of existence (COVID, materials, etc.). He started the next day. The guy that showed up was not a bad welder but not super clean. Things started to get strange from here. The guy used scrap rollers of different sizes on the the gate. When I noticed it, he said the owner didn't give him any new ones. I called him and he argued but sent new, full size rollers out. The guy the did the work was nice but not the usual guy that does the field work, he told me. It showed. Most of the job was unfinished when he left. I told the owner he needed to come out and finish the job. He asked me over and over if the 'envelope' would be there - the envelope of cash. The bill wasn't crazy, only $2,750 total. But after he arrived, and I showed him what needed to be done he began to argue with me, stopping around and telling me the job was done. For example, he didn't clean up and of the welds. It was a complete Micky Mouse job. Nothing was primed or painted. All the edges were rough with sharp steel edges poking out. To fix a dip in the track, the installer simply hammered a bit of scrap underneath and welded the raw metal to it. Wouldn't make it a year without rusting in the pool of water that goes to the lowest point. He argued about that. He argued about using a random primer AND, god forbid a second coat with rust proof paint HE DIDN'T have. He argued about the over spray. He didn't bring anything to cover the ground or brick work when he painted. He argued when I asked him to finish the painting work - he sprayed over dirt that was on the work - yes, and told me that's normal. When I ran my finger over it to show him it would just come off he had a complete fit and started telling me I was a never going to pay him and he didn't need the aggravation and this and that. I had to get one of my employees to come join me because he was so off the hook. And always with the 'did you bring the envelope?' over and over again. Of course I paid him but not until I had him sign the invoice that he stood behind his work for a 3 year period - in writing, signed by him. I would never hire him again and would tell anyone that asked the same thing because of my experience with him. Poor quality, difficult to work with, more expensive then others, argumentative from right after he starts. read more

We recently moved into our home and our first project was to replace an old, double-swing out driveway gate with a motorized single swing gate. We also needed rails brought up to code and some new ones installed. Eyal responded right away. He gave a competitive quote with the other companies we spoke to, and was able to do the work immediately. If I could give 6 stars for quality, I would. Especially on the railings. They're absolutely beautiful and far more durable than what was previously installed. The only reason I docked a star was for customer service. While Eyal and Star Steel are very communicative, it's not always effective communication. We had quite a few misunderstandings that led to a bit of stress on our end, especially when it came to changing an agreed upon price. Once we expressed our concern, it felt like there was some attitude, but Eyal rectified and offered back the price agreed upon. When we had to change part of our project after install (something entirely not his fault), he was very amenable to making the change. Overall, we're very pleased with the work itself.
