The Worst experiance with a pahrmacy ever. I am so glad I moved to pharmaca on College Ave. They are so much nicer and really go out of their way to help. I agree with Chris B. FUBAR on steroids. They made big mistakes like giving me extra bottle of highly controlled medication and when I take it back they are practically snatched out of my hand and from that moment on I was treated like a drug addict by Andrew and his staff. This place is awesome. I called ahead of time and was able to get in contact with a lovely voice. I like the location, its in the corner and I usually get street parking almost everytime in front of the store. It's not too far for me when I need my medications, especially for last min needs. The vibe is pretty great, I got greeted with open arms and was helped right away. One time I forgot his name but the old man was pretty attentive and patient to my needs especially when I get anxiety on personal interactions with strangers. After many visits I would highly recommend this place for anyone who needs a their prescriptions. I do not like other places because I always have a long wait. I have dealt with this pharmacy several times over the past several years, and have only done so because their pricing was competitive. Andrew who owns the place,is completely rude and condescending, and basically a jerk. Customer service is nonexistent. I had a rx faxed from my doctor on friday. i called them on tuesday and they still hadn't pulled it out of the fax machine. Andrew was well aware that I wanted the Rx to be more concentrated than the previous one, so I would apply less (it's a cream). When they finally called me, I asked the price, and was told $111. When I arrive, I was told $141, and Andrew (who is behind the counter, starts yelling that he's the one who sets the price, etc etc....well then his staff shouldn't have told me $111. When I inquire about the concentration (because the bottle does not say how much cream to apply), he says it's the same as before. He never comes over to have this conversation, but rather starts yelling from the back. He was perfectly aware that I wanted it more concentrated. I express this, and he says he can only do what is ordered. Well DUH but his job is also to advocate for the patient, esp when he knows what they want. Would have been very simple for him to ask the doctor if that would have been ok and then satisfied both of us. Meanwhile he makes up the same Rx that I did not want, tries to charge me $30 more than I was just quoted on the phone, and has a fit when I say I don't want to pick it up. All the while being completely rude and condescending. This guy seems completely miserable in his work and his life and I will never take my business there again, and I sincerely advise you all to do the same. read more

Not only did they give me incorrect information about their hours and delivery services, but they waited a week after I ordered the medication to let me know that their supplier had changed and that they weren't going to be able to produce it. They were super quick to call and get my credit card information, but terrible when it came to actually providing the service I was looking for. Abbotts pharmacy was better than this, it's too bad that Wellspring took over - I will never bring business here again. read more

I manage my disabled son's medication, which total around $1K per month. I was a CVS customer until they gave him blood pressure medication instead of his anti-psychotic . They never even apologized even though my son's life was threatened by their carelessness. So it was with this horror behind me that I was introduced to Andrew at Wellspring. He is a true partner in health care and has provided services to our family that I didn't even realize were possible. First off, he provided samples of the packaging so I could show my son in advance since he doesn't handle change well and is suffering from a severe lack of trust after the CVS nightmare. Then he told me there were packaging CHOICES and showed them to me...(!) card, strip, what would be best for my son? Then he said he could deliver them weekly to Brian and handle any returns. Wow. I'm thinking this must be like getting full service at a gas station...I'll probably pay more, but no. One day I mentioned how hard it had been the few times my son's refill was delayed due to the psychiatrist being out of town or whatever, and I wished I had a weekend's worth of emergency supplies. BOOM! Andrew packages up an emergency supply for me, no charge. When I learned that the new medication the doctor prescribed was not covered by Medicare, Andrew gave me papers to fill out to qualify for the manufacturer's financial aid. He shepherded the paperwork through the system for me, coordinating with the doctor, the case manager and so forth. I understood a month's supply would tide my son over until Medicare approved the new drug. Andrew just called me yesterday to inform me that the dosage on the sample pills did not match the dosage on the original prescription--it was doubled. I almost wept I felt so grateful for his conscientiousness. If my son's medication is messed up, he risks being hospitalized, which means he would lose his housing and his stable life. Oh, and I have to mention. The other pharmacy prided themselves on returning phone calls the same day. This is not soon enough where antipsychotics are concerned. I was thrilled to find Andrew returns calls immediately. I am now able to relax, knowing Andrew has my back and will catch errors by others. Obviously, I'm a big fan of Wellspring and will be transferring all my prescriptions there. read more

I can't remember the last time I picked up my prescription from a Pharmacy and actually got proper acknowledgement from the staffs. I usually fill my prescriptions in Walmart or Target and I find everyone is too busy to care. I bet the Pharmacists of those stores can't even put a face to my name. In Wellspring, you actually get greeted by the staffs and Pharmacist!!!! Amazing and rare isn't it? That's not all, I was shocked when another patient walked in and the Pharmacist actually knew their name. What's more I was informed if I'm too busy to pick up my prescription it can be delivered. (The owner/pharmacist goes out of this way, if he can, if he has sufficient room in his wholesale pricing, to beat the prescription prices of the big name big chains . I learned in a phone call with him, when, surprisingly, after I called around to do some price checks, I found the elective prescriptions I needed filled were cheaper here at Wellspring.) Many of us like to support independent, local businesses, right? But, oftentimes, that choice means giving up something such as lower prices or wide selection. Not the case here. The staff is very friendly the owner is not. Treats employees like they are his slaves and his their masters. They have gotten meds wrong number of times. I cannot believe it has taken me this long to write Wellspring a review. This pharmacy is life changing-- never again will I got to a Cvs or anywhere else to have my prescriptions filled. Since I have been a customer I have never had to stand around waiting for a prescription, had to call my insurance company for an authorization or call a Dr for a refill. They simply take care of everything so you don't have to worry about it. Several years ago I had a very complicated medical diagnosis that required MANY prescriptions that most pharmacies do not carry, because they aren't profitable for the pharmacy (due to the extra time it takes to order them and also insurance company doesn't reimburse for the full cost). I could not get anyone to fill these prescriptions for me, because it was simply not worth it to the pharmacy-- Wellspring not only filled them, they managed all of the complicated preauthorizations the insurance company required and coordinated all of the necessary medication and supplies, even checking the available stock to make sure I wouldn't run out in future months (just to be safe). This had previously been a source of major stress-- the last thing you need when you sick is not to know if you will be able to get the medication you need to get better. Wellspring made it so I could just focus on getting better and not on stressing about prescriptions. I just can't say enough good things about them-- they're just great and I cannot imagine ever going anywhere else :-) read more

I went to Wellspring only because I had a compounding requirement which none of the major chain stores could handle. They did such a good job, I am in the process of transferring all my prescriptions from Walgreens. There are many things to like about Wellspring, e.g. competitive or better pricing, courteous service and, maybe best of all, no long lines waiting for prescription service. We needed to get a compounded medicine for our cat refilled after Abbott's Pharmacy seems to have shortchanged us. The original prescription from Abbot's should have lasted 20 days, but lasted only 14 and it cost us $60. We realized we were running out on a Friday and Abbott's is closed on Saturday, so we had the vet call Wellspring on Saturday morning. They had it ready about an hour later, which is awesome because Abbott's took a day and a half to prepare it the first time. Wellspring added a tuna flavor to it and even gave us an extra syringe, plus a larger one for the water chaser she'd need if we didn't put the medicine in her food. They were super nice and knowledgable when we went to pick it up. The pharmacist even warned us to be really careful with our cat (who has Bartonella or cat scratch fever) because he knew of someone that almost lost two fingers after getting a minor scratch from a cat with Bartonella. The vet didn't even talk to us about how we could get infected and what it could do. On top of all that, it cost us only $27.50--less than half the cost that Abbott's charged us. I highly recommend it. Only complaint is street parking is super tough around there, but that's not their fault. read more

But over time, I had repeated experiences of them charging me for medications neither my doctor or I had ordered, or overcharging me for prescriptions I had ordered, or not transferring prescriptions, despite my requests, to other pharmacies. Wellspring has provided incredible service for our son, both while he was in foster care and also after we finalized adoption. Name changes, address changes, insurance changes... They took care of it all and were able to sync up his medication delivery so it all arrives at the same time each month. When you phone their office, you talk to a 'real person' with minimum wait and everyone I've spoken to has been kind, knowledgeable and able to assist very quickly. I am one of those people who is seemingly endlessly patient. I routinely get told that I am a great communicator and that I give people the benefit of the doubt way more than your average bear. That said, I have a life threatening chronic illness related to stress. Having any extra stress in my life, particularly related to my meds is totally unacceptable. I switched to Wellspring because of the "free and fast delivery." (They don't mention the weird guilt trip they are going to give you when you give them feedback about their drivers, who left my medication in an unsafe place 4 times, when they should never have left it at all with out a signature. They claim it is a courier, but it is the same guy every time, so they definitely can give him feedback.) I was in the middle of a transition with my doctors and so I went in and sat down with Lucy the manager and explained that for the next month I was going to need a little more attention to detail to make sure that I did not miss any of my meds. Nothing out of the ordinary, I am just really ill, and I can't have mistakes. First the week of Thanksgiving...they closed Wednesday through MONDAY. I expected them to be closed Thursday...maybe Friday (they are normally closed Sat/Sun which is also super annoying and inconvenient). They did not communicate the days that they would be closed, and I could not find it anywhere on their website. Spent 5 days with no meds. Week 2, I establish an Rx need on Tuesday. By Friday it is not handled and no one has communicated with me. Another weekend with out my meds. Not kidding... 3 weeks in a row. This time because even though I was sitting here with my phone on the entire 3 hour window that they require, no meds. They claim that they came here...but we can never be sure because the delivery driver never called. I sent a politely worded email explaining my frustration. No response. The manager specifically told me that emailing was an optimal way to communicate. Honestly, I think that they need better software or something. Super basic stuff just kept getting missed, and 4 weekends in a row with 4 different med issues...is just way too much. When I asked to speak to a manager to give them feedback (instead of just heading straight for Yelp) I got Iris on the phone. What a treat! First she got defensive, then started making up excuses, then blamed me for their ineptitude. They claimed that I don't answer my phone so that they can respond. I checked my phone. I had 2 missed calls from them, both before 1pm. I had explained that I am not available before 1pm. Oh, and when she tried to defend why their holiday hours were not clearly communicated she said that their was a sign on the door. I get my meds delivered...how would I see it on the door? Lastly, I use a wheelchair and avoid getting out of the car whenever possible, so the 3 times that I had to go there to get my meds because of delivery fails, they brought it out to the car. Thanks for the personalized service! I can't wait to go back to CVS in Target and be done with the drama! read more

I have Anthem BlueCross Medi-Cal and my previous pharmacy, CVS, just stopped accepting my insurance. I tried going to Walgreen's but they wouldn't accept my insurance either. I finally went to Wellspring Pharmacy and was relieved that they accepted my insurance. The pharmacy staff was friendly and greeted me right away. They called CVS and transferred my prescriptions and filled them while I was waiting. It was quick and painless. The pharmacist even came out from behind the counter to talk to me. He even recommended a few non prescription items and was willing to special order something for me that he didn't normally carry. Way better service than what I've learned to expect from CVS or Walgreen's! Oh and an added bonus, Fentons Creamery is a few blocks down so you can enjoy a yummy treat either while you wait or afterwards! read more

Wellspring Pharmacy provides great personalized service that helped my mom! My mom has this age old acute skin infection condition that flares up every so often throughout her life. Thru many trial and error, my mom and her doctor had finally found this one cream that could help to control her skin condition. After years of use, however, my mom had used up her last tube of the cream and we later found that the cream is no longer available on the market anywhere. During one recent breakout, on the off chance, we asked Wellspring Pharmacy if they could find or make such a cream. Andrew the pharmacist took our request and delivered a custom made topical cream the very next morning! And his cream really worked! Thank you Wellspring Pharmacy for easing my mom's pain. If I could give wellspring negative 100 stars I would. I've been trying to get my prescriptions transferred there for almost a week, and they couldn't seem to make it happen. Today I tried to get them to just transfer it to Walgreens and they didn't do that either. I've now been off of crucial medication for over a week. I have a friend who is a pharmaceutical distributor. She was concerned that I was being grossly overcharged at Walgreens and CVS as she knows what they both pay for my medication. It was suggested that I look into a small independent pharmacy instead. I walked into Wellspring and was warmly greeted by the staff. The assistant, Tao (sp?), spent a good amount of time gathering my info from CVS in order to provide me a price. She was happy to do so. The pharmacist, Andrew, came out from behind the counter and asked a few questions about my condition in a very friendly and genuine manner. They quoted me a price....over 75% less than CVS and Walgreens! Not only that, Andrew added he could save me an additional $3 dollars per monthly prescription if I purchased a 3 month supply (he obtained permission to do so from my doctor). We chatted a few more minutes about baseball and I was on my way. What a different experience. I am done with CVS and Walgreens! read more

I had a last minute prescription filled here for my cat. Pet prescriptions usually must be custom compounded and flavored, so finding a place that can fill them can be difficult. thankfully, my Walnut Creek vet found them and called it in, and they had it ready for pickup in less than an hour. They are the only compounding pharmacy in the entire East Bay that stays open past 5:00 on a Friday, and I am so grateful for them because my poor cat was in misery. This place is a find. Andrew, the pharmacist, is a kind, caring man who took all the time needed to talk to me about my cat's new drug. I also overheard him giving extensive, thorough consultations to other folks who came in to pick up. I was not trying to eavesdrop, but the shop is small and rather cramped so if you need privacy for your consult you should probably do it by phone. To top it off, the price was super reasonable.
