I really do like this Walgreens and appreciate how convenient it is but the unfortunate thing is due to the rift raft it attracts they have the craziest hours and shut down super early. I do think this Walgreens could be better if the whole area had more foot traffic like it did before the pandemic so due to these circumstances it has really brought the area down. However I give it 5 stars for location, the workers and security are friendly and they have a lot of those last minute items we need! read more

DO NOT USE THIS PHARMACY! This place is a black hole and is incapable of doing the bare minimum. I don't have a single nice thing to say about Walgreen's. They have screwed me over in every way possible to make sure I do not get my meds on time, or at all. I'm on some severe medications that make withdrawal unbearable and leaving me feeling suicidal. But they truly don't care. I'll share some incidents I've experienced with this store. - They constantly do partial refills without ever notifying. Not once have they informed me of this. NOT ONCE! - Although I live only a few blocks away, I had to start paying DoorDash to deliver my meds because every time I went to the pharmacy in person it was always closed. Didn't matter the time! One week I went to the pharmacy 10am, 11am, 2pm, 4pm, 5:30pm - closed every time. Only DoorDash could get access so I was forced to pay for delivery to even get my meds at all. - The delivery used to be 1-2 day shipping but they stopped that, yet did not remove it from their website/app. I tried to get my meds shipped the next day and they arrived a week later. When I complained, they took zero accountability and just blamed FedEx. They did NOT care that the 1-2 days shipping they promised for came 7 days later. - They never refill my meds on time or pharmacy access is unavailable. I would NEVER consensually stop taking my meds. But I was forced to stop due to non-stop their negligence. Every single time that I've needed a refill for about the last year, they have been late. I always have to endure 2-4 days of very severe withdrawal symptoms and suicidal ideation every time I need a med refill, all thanks to Walgreen's! - I needed an emergency refill and they filled 2 of the 4 at my local store and then sent the other 2 to some mail-order service, which I did not know existed, which I did not consent to, and my provider sent the prescription to the store, not the mail-order service. I also got ZERO notice that my meds were going through mail-order. Walgreen's never contacted me about it. No tracking number. No delivery confirmation. Just nothing. Also - I NEVER RECEIVED THE MEDS!!! They were shipped over a month ago. And again, they just blamed the mail carrier and took zero accountability for sending off my meds - that I needed immediately - to a mail-order service out of state without my consent, instead of the store like my provider has asked because it was urgent. I still never got those meds. And I doubt I ever will. I was told insurance wouldn't cover another refill and they hung up on me. Nobody cared to even try to resolve the issue. They're totally fine with me not getting my meds. I keep saying it, but it's true, they take ZERO accountability for their mistakes, so they don't feel the need to resolve them. Which they don't resolve. Just tell me to calm down and hang up or transferring me in a circle while nobody offers me any solutions. Just a really cruel "not my problem" attitude from every person I speak with. I wish every single pharmacist could experience the pain of withdrawal and wanting to end their lives. Because maybe they might care. Doubtful. I think these people have lost all empathy and are incapable of caring about whether people live or die. If you take meds that are required for your healthcare, DO NOT trust Walgreen's ever!! Definitely not this store but the whole company is corrupt. They have lost all trust and respect from me and I hope that this evil corporation goes out of business soon. I miss the locally owned pharmacies. They would actually care about people's wellbeing, not be rude and uncaring, take accountability for their mistakes, find solutions, and not put me through the wringer in the first place. Walgreen's is the epitome of what's wrong with American healthcare. They don't care about you at all. They can't even be paid to care. I don't think there's enough money in the world to get this company to do anything right. It's that messed up and dysfunctional. Their negligence should be illegal. Stopped here after work, since I'm coming down with a cold. It's that time of year and the combination of cooler weather, and riding public transit helps to spread germs. There seemed to be a lot missing for the shelves, but thankfully I was able to find some Thera-Flu, which is always my go-to. I'll be honest, I was surprised it wasn't behind a locked display, since they had products like hair gel, for example, locked up. But anyways, I'm glad that wasn't the case because I was able to get in and out. There were only two registers open and this was during a weekday around 5:30 PM - so the wait was awful. The store wasn't even crowded, but the line just kept getting longer due to this. But no big deal, I got my meds and I was out. Downsides? My meds were crazy expensive - 17.99 for a pack of 5? Wtf. This is a store I'm only purchasing from, if I absolutely have to. I could've gotten it much cheaper at Walmart, Target and even Amazon. But this location is literally downtown City Center, so I'm sure the customer base is largely the nearby working professionals. So I wont knock a star off, but again, if I need something in a pinch I'll come off, other than that - nope! Too expensive! read more

This review is specifically for my experience at the pharmacy trying to get a walk-in flu shot. Initially, I tried scanning QR code for walk-in vaccination that they have on a sign at the pharmacy counter, but the site gave me a message that they're busy for next hour, so I waited in line 5 mins to talk to a technician, Ali, who was able to get me signed up for walk-in flu shot. They seemed to have difficulties with the sign-up process (maybe new/still in training?) and had to reconfirm my personal info multiple times, and forgot a few times that I was only coming for flu shot and not COVID. I saw Ali grab the wrong vaccine at first and a colleague correct them and have them grab the correct vial, which did not inspire confidence. Then, since I saw a sign at the front saying I can stop by the pharmacy to check if my insurance plan covers COVID tests, I asked if Walgreens can check if my plan covers cost of COVID tests and Ali referred me to their colleague Weika for help with this. I had to repeat my question 3 times and reference the pharmacy's own sign twice to Weika since they initially didn't understand correctly what I was asking them, then finally they said "I don't think so" and told me I can check if my insurance plan covers COVID tests on my insurance website and tried to move on to the next patient. So I reiterated I want them to check for sure if my insurance plan covers it and said again that the sign's wording - that Walgreens pharmacy themselves had put at their pharmacy counter - makes it sound like Walgreens pharmacy can check for me and I mentioned that I was not able to find a clear answer in my insurance portal. Only then did it seem like Weika finally checked but then told me it doesn't cover the tests. While I am sympathetic that they are likely stressed out from working in customer service at a busy Walgreens location, I would recommend that the pharmacy either reword the signs that are saying the pharmacy can help us check if our health insurance plans cover COVID-19 tests, or remove those signs entirely if the staff are so hesitant to actually check our insurance coverage for this...or, if they do intend to still offer this free check of coverage, then staff really need to actually follow through and do the check when asked, instead of trying to send us elsewhere. Tracy, who was the pharmacy technician who actually administered the shot, was courteous and efficient with the flu shot, however. It was less than 10 min wait from when I checked in to when I got the flu shot, so that was not a bad wait time given there were multiple people trying to get helped when I arrived at the pharmacy. They do the vaccinations in a small cubicle in the middle of store. So the relatively short wait time for a walk-in and Tracy being quick with the jab are the only reasons I would rate this experience a 2 stars instead of 1. Only a few Walgreens workers are wearing masks currently (and the ones that were, are wearing surgical). read more

Do not come here for passport photos. Awful. Paid $18 for photos because the photo machine at the post office was down. The dude working the passport photos seemed like he hated his job. Saw me waiting for photos but walked away. Had to get the cashier to call in for assistance. He comes back out with hella attitude- sorry if you're having a bad day dude but I didn't want to be here either. He takes the picture and prints it out. I bring it to the post office and they said it wasn't to the photo standard. Great. Had to go back - mind you, parking in downtown is AWFUL. Asked for a reprint to standard. Fortunately, there was someone else working the photo area this time. Haven't written a review in years, but this experience had me coming out of retirement. read more

Don't come here u less you wanna get robbed twice. Came to get some Tums and it smelled like someone just smoked a fatty. Picked up my Tums and looked at the pharmacists behind the glass. They're all wide-eyed, staring out like they're in jail (in a way, they are). Started down the toothpaste aisle and there's a guy stuffing boxes into his backpack. It's not my problem and I don't want to make it my problem so I turn around and head down another aisle. As I'm spending $10 on my $5 bottle of Tums, security dips down the shoplifter's aisle. I buy my shit and leave. Unfortunately, the shoplifter is kicked out right behind me. This fool is literally breathing down my back. I turn and he follows. I look at a woman and her eyes tell me this guy is right on my back. So I whip around and say "WHAT YOU ON BLOOD?!" Guess that threw him off cause he stepped back a second and laughed sayin "Blood? You Black?" I beelined towards some empty cop cars and he stopped following me. I'm not one to be scared of walking around anywhere, but I was surprised to be picked out as a potential target. Somebody pooped in the aisles this morning. And a customer who almost stepped in the poop was complaining to security, and the security guard treated the customer as hostile. This was wrong. The security is the only free staff member of Walgreens who has the time to actually clean up the poop that should have been the security guard's priority or report it immediately to the manager. Anyways I'm not interested in that drama so I made my way to the Pharmacy. The pharmacy has a barrier screen up that only has cutouts at 3ft from the floor or 6ft from the floor - meaning you have to yell to the pharmacy staff on your tippy-toes at 6ft or you have to yell into the counter at 3ft hurting your lower back. Obviously, this is less than desirable for all customers and they don't make it easy for pharmacy staff to communicate with us. Another thing to note is there is a language barrier, an artificial one created by only hiring asian workers, all female. The majority of the customers however are not asian so its very confusing as to why the head pharmacist is discriminating against hiring BIPOC or black. They don't do this at CVShealth I noticed that actually CVShealth has a very diverse staff and Im very proud of them for their ethical hiring practices! On an average day, this place can be a hit or miss on how busy it gets. They have a wide selection of things to buy since it is a department store for everything from toiletries to greeting cards to food to card games and more. Items are cheap and the service is great and quick to help you if you're lost. Since it's in the heart of downtown Oakland, they do have security just in case of robberies or if any homeless need to be turned away. Sadly, they don't have a parking lot sk it's better to walk, take the Bart, or use the bus lines. read more

I dont believe this store deserves anything less than 3 stars as a whole. This location has been very consistent through the years and is located in downtown Oakland. Most all of the employees are helpful and nice with the exception of a few rotten apples(2 apples "employees" that fell from the tree years ago and still haven't rotted away. Lol). Their are prejudice employees in most all areas that you see/come across when you have beautiful brown skin like mine :) So, I don't discuss them much. This location has everything from T-shirts, food, salads, candy, hygeine products (take note)drinks and even souvenirs from all over the Bay. They have a free Walgreens rewards card that gives you really nice discounts and allows you to collect rewards in the form of cash thats used to reduce your bill. The discounts are pretty "Fetch" and easy on the pockets. Adrianna was the cosmetics director/employee here for several years and was recently promoted/moved to a different location as a beauty consultant. She is a very pretty gal(inside and out)and was by far the nicest and most helpful employee at this location. It was sad to see her go, but there are still other cool, collected employees here as well. Whether hungry, musty, thirsty, or shopping for gifts, Walgreens has it all...some even have liquor and wine (Those are the real 5 star locations)...oh, yeah I said musty...some need to get to Walgreens right now and handle that! Always a pleasant experience shopping at this location even with t being as busy as it stays. They have a wonderfully stocked store with some helpful and kind employees. I particularly enjoy Ms. Jessica in the pharmacy. She always has a smile and welcoming presence when you see her. This store is conveniently located downtown. You can catch the bus #72, 6 or several others. You can bart to 12th street and come above to Walgreen's. They always have prompt customer service and friendly faces upon entering. read more

This Walgreen's is located on the corner of 14th & Broadway, right smack dab in Downtown Oakland with the transit hub of AC Transit, BART and the Shuttle to and from Jack London Square. When I worked in the downtown Oakland area, Walgreen's was a convenient place to get a few things during my lunch break. I would stop in for snacks, candies, bottled water, 1/2 off knick knacks and greeting cards after the holiday season (Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter) and add cash to my Clipper card. Since I was in the area last week to take care of some business at Citibank, I had to step into Walgreen's to add cash to my Clipper card before heading north on the bus to Kaiser Oakland Medical Center. Customer service is okay. The employees try their best to keep the line of customers moving. Compared to other Walgreen's that I have been in, this one has a section with plastic bubble containers of fresh fruits, salads, sandwiches and cold bottled beverages. The drawback at this location is the difficulty in finding parking close by, which is slim and none. I don't know how late this Walgreen's stays open, but I would not recommend being around, shopping there when it gets dark and during the holiday season - Downtown Oakland; you never know who's lurking around. read more

I have been diagnosed with ADHD since I was a child. During the pandemic when I had lost my health insurance I switched to a Telehealth company because thats all I could afford. I am transitioning to another provider in the next 30 days but in the meantime the new doctor wanted to the telehealth company to issue the last prescription so I could be covered and there would be an overlap in services. This is the VERY first time i had this prescription sent to Walgreens When I show up today to pick up my prescription, the pharmacist refused to fill it told me to "get a real doctor" and when I asked him to explain because this doesn't make sense to me. He said the laws had changed. I said the laws don't change until October. He literally waved his had in my face and dismissed me while he turned around to start counting pills. I was upset and my raised I told him he could not treat me like this and I asked for his name and license number. His response was to call security to ask me to leave. He never asked me any questions. He didn't explain He treated me as if I respect is something that I don't deserve based on what he assumed about me. There was ZERO level of empathy or care that this might actually screw up the treatment plan that TWO medical providers signed off on. He refused to give me his name and the pharmacy tech told security she wasn't allowed to share information. He treated me like a drug addict stealing drugs and not a patient with a treatment plan and customer of walgreens . If i was an addict wouldn't i have picked it up the day it was issued instead of 2 weeks later? Furthermore according to the state law in California, Pharmacists can refuse to fill prescriptions, but they have to provide some form of patient protection (such as referring them to another pharmacist on duty). That wasn't done. He turned around and went back to work. This was a HORRIBLE experience and I will follow up on the complaint that have been filed because there ZERO reason why picking up a prescription should result in humiliation and tears. read more

I actually had to help someone find some medicine because she was freaking out and no one was available to help her. The current workers do their best to effectively help everyone but the service is slow. This place is ALWAYS super understaffed. If you ever need a product that is in a locked section, good luck. I once had to wait 20 minutes to get dayquil. The only reason I didnt leave is because I was so sick I just needed the medicine. The other day, I went and tried to drop off film to be developed. I pushed the call button for service and an announcement went over the store speakers saying assistance was needed at the photo counter. 5 minutes, 10 minutes, no one comes. I hit the button again.... still no one comes. Then, a worker walks by and says "No one is going to come help you. When the store is busy, we're told to ignore the requests for assistance so you can keep pushing that but no one is gonna come" I was so pissed I walked out and I'm definitely never going back. This is one of the sketchiest Walgreens locations in all of Oakland, as there is constant panhandling and loitering happening outside on a moment to moment basis. The store itself is fairly clean and always has quite a few sales going on, but the staff doesn't do a very good job in rotating inventory or keeping items stocked. Also, their tiny selection of "fresh" produce is usually past it's sell by date, and whoever organizes their display doesn't know what they are doing, often times I find citrus fruits and bananas inside the cooler, both of which thrive in warmth and degrade in cold temperatures. I'd suggest coming here for items in a hurry, like clipper card reloads or headphones, but you may want to rethink your choices if this is to become your main location. Also, always be alert of your surroundings if you shop after dark, I've seen multiple people get robbed right out front, and that is never any good for anyone. read more

Wow! I thought I was really going to say something different about my experience, but I see it has pretty much already been said. I go this Walgreen's because it is close to where I work. Basically, the Cashiers are really nice, however, they are not the only ones you have to deal with. I recently went in to get a vaccination, that (of course), wasn't available at the store at 1333 Broadway, so I took my prescription to the store at 34th and Telegraph. I gave them the prescription and they said I need pre-authorization. Since it had been over a month, I called the Walgreen's on Broadway to see if the authorization had been approved. Whoever, answered the phone was so rude! He tells me that the vaccination wasn't available at that store (which I was aware of) and asks me how would he know about the pre-authorization. I say, can't you just look it up on the computer? I mean really! All the time he spent telling me how "ridiculous" my request was, he could have just typed in my date of birth and told me what was there. Apparently, all Walgreen's aren't the same (thank God!) I called that Walgreen's on 34th and the person made up for his rudeness and lack of customer service and faxed the request right to my doctor. I think they (1333 Broadway), know that they have a community of customers between China town and the many offices located around there, so they don't have to focus on Customer service. I would rather go to the dentist (which I dread more than just about anything) than go to the pharmacy at this Walgreens. It is a wretchedly painful experience. First of all, I hate having to spell my last name. It's of German descent, and there are a lot of consecutive consonants, so it's confusing to people. But the clerks here look at me like I'm misspelling my own last name. I am not an idiot, I know how to spell my own last name, so don't look at me like you think I'm spelling it incorrectly! Of course, I have to go through this ritual every time because they don't ever remember me, or my last name. This isn't some neighborhood pharmacy where the staff actually gets to know the clientele. Please. Second of all, it takes a ridiculously long time to get service. I have never understood what takes so long at these pharmacy windows. You drop off your prescription, you pick it up ... unless the pharmacist requests to speak with you about special circumstances, what's with the hold up? Third of all, many of the other staff who work in this store are rude. The aisles are narrow. I'm the customer. I'm always right. If you need to get by, and you're a store employee, say "excuse me" without the attitude. And maybe ask if I need help with anything. That might be nice. I mean, seriously, whatever happened to customer service? If I weren't so lazy, I would've changed pharmacies by now. But with all the time I spend waiting in line and getting annoyed by incompetence at this store, I would actually have more time to be lazy if I put in the effort to switch to a new place. Get it together, Walgreens! I've gone here a lot recently because I've been having to pick up medications for someone else post-surgery. The very first time I was here, the pharmacist left out one of the medications without even telling me. It's a good thing I checked the doctor's list before leaving. When I asked her why that wasn't prepared for me, she said it was because, "That medication is very expensive." O...kay bitch. Expensive as the medication may be, it's one that the patient NEEDS, as the doctor's order clearly states. Who is she to make a judgment call as to whether or not someone should get a medication due to cost? She didn't even ask me first. I appreciate when the pharmacist is trying to help you save money, but this wasn't a "take as needed" drug. It was a daily medication. If you come here, make sure to read over your doctor's prescription note VERY clearly in detail before leaving to make sure it's the right dosage of the drug, and that the pills inside look as they should look. If you don't need anything from the pharmacy department, this Walgreens is actually decent. Spacious, bright, and neatly organized aisles with well stocked shelves. If you do use the pharmacy department, make sure they're preparing ALL of your prescribed medications before you head off to wait around for 20 minutes. read more

This Walgreens is on one end of Oakland City Center at the corner of 14th and Broadway. Recently, I stopped by during my lunch hour to shop for a couple of items. It is not a large store and I did notice that they didn't carry an extensive product line. Also, the aisle felt tight and more so with the amount of customers in the store. The queue for the register starts in aisle 7, but with three four cashiers, the wait was relatively short. The cashier was courteous and efficient. During my transaction, a lady with a baby in a stroller came up to one of the cashiers and started ranting as to "how she has been disrespected". She wanted to talk to the manager because "she's ain't supposed to be treated that way". Never knew what the outcome was as I paid and was out the door. Overall, courteous and efficient cashiers serving customers ranging from office workers to students to the elderly. But be warned that some of the street elements might be in the store too. read more
