I want to like this place, but I've had several bad experiences: 1) inconsistent billing, like sometimes charging for deliveries while other times not, 2) putting me on a subscription to auto send refills without my knowledge, 3) sending too many subscriptions (sometimes twice in a month) and not refunding the extras, and 4) not confirming a subscription with me in advance so they ended up sending me the wrong item and again wouldn't refund it. At the very least -- acknowledge mistakes and give refunds when you mess up. read more

Their website says they're open 9-5:30 pm on Tuesday but went there just before 5 pm and there were 5 or 6 people in the small space all staring at us as we walked in. A huge white dog was in the cramped space and jumped as we walked in. They closed early and the staff was all standing ready to leave in the entry, though their hours show they're open. We'd missed a booster appt by 20 min and wanted to see if they might be able ti fit us in. They all STARED at us and made my son and I feel super uncomfortable. The space was dirty and dark and I can't imagine code allows huge hairy dogs in pharmacies where vaccinations are done. Aren't you a medical office? Will never go back. Funny how the angry owner blames us in his response and acts like a victim instead of addressing the issues. Pretty much sums up this place. Doesn't address closing before posted hours, the dirty medical space, giant dog, and rude treatment of customers, even children! Instead he admits they closed early and lies. Yep, he lied, cause they cancelled our 4:36 appt (what kind of lame appt time is this anyway) after 14 minutes and we cane just after that! Check out the photo proof. Everyone in this pharmacy has been helpful, kind, and extremely competent (more than I can say for some bigger box competitors!). I've always gotten questions answered quickly and they run things quite efficiently. I have to highly recommend the pharmacist from whom I have received my last two Covid vaccinations (and I'm sad to say I did not ask his name, but have learned through reading reviews his name is Andrew. Thank you Andrew!). He takes time to properly place the shot in your arm which can minimize soreness -- something I have never had another vaccine provider do. I love the pharmacist and the staff there! I had never really paid attention to the little business until the pandemic. My neighbor recommended them for vaccinations. Theirs was the ONE website that reliably easy to book appointments on, and I was juggling making them for 3 people, myself and two daughters. The staff were all more than competent, they were also really kind, patient, and helpful with advising me about when my girls could get vaccinated. That was tricky because they were both on the thresholds of vaccination rollouts at various times like 12/13, or 15/16. They were all more than just professionally civil, they were genuinely kind, even when it looked to "a mother's eye" like they might be tired or weary. (not like snarky way.) The pharmacist would let me go in the small vaccination area with my "big baby" 13 year old who hated shots. It gave me a chance to chat with him in addition to my own shots. I totally appreciate, and agree with, his perspective. The small seating area, and vaccination area was clearly not designed as a "medical office", meant to be performing medical services. But it was clean enough and they did a great service to the community by operating as a vaccination site. It looks like they are one of few compounding pharmacies left, that can customize prescriptions for people who need that done. Here in late stage capitalism, it is a miracle such places still exist. I am fed up with CVS closing stores and just firing their pharmacy staff. There are plenty of other places to get generic basics, and call themselves "drugstores." I am thinking of having all our prescriptions filled here, if they'd have us. I don't know if they are "taking new patients" so to speak. This was one of the bright spots in the cloud of the pandemic for our family. As a 77-year old immunosuppressed solid organ recipient I was qualified to receive a full dose Moderna vaccine as a way to possibly raising an increase in my immune response to SARS-CoV-2. Using the CA DPH web site, I scheduled my vaccine shot for Tuesday at noon. Arriving on time the woman who checked me in was efficient, friendly & professional. The pharmacist in contrast was rude, unaware of CDCs & CA DPH guidance pertaining to solid organ Tx immunosuppressed individuals. Despite my not at all showing ANY attitude, this fellow said repeatedly "don't show me attitude." He was irrational and might have a psychosis or two. The pharmacy should investigate him. The pharmacist is the type of person to be extremely confidently wrong. In my case (a healthy person getting a vaccination), there was nothing extremely important at stake. However, for people going to this pharmacy for something of extreme medical importance, I would be really worried that the pharmacist's personality (and unwillingness to be corrected when wrong) would result in serious harm. I came in to get a Pfizer booster shot. My first shot happened to be in Canada, so I had a different-looking vaccine card, but my second shot was here in California. He asked where I got my second dose, and wouldn't believe it was in the US because I had an unusual-looking vaccine card. He insisted that the people who gave me my first and second doses had the same writing (they clearly didn't). Whenever I answered his questions or tried to explain, he said to stop arguing. He insisted that my card was an illegitimate record of my vaccination, and I wouldn't be able to use it for things like travel. (I've been able to travel back and forth between the US and Canada with no problem.) I was really worried he would refuse to vaccinate me, so I tried to explain, but he wouldn't hear anything, and just said things like "I'm the pharmacist" and "stop arguing." Judging from some of the other reviews here describing similar experiences, the pharmacist will probably reply to this with a made-up story about how I was being disruptive or "bullying healthcare workers." What a cluster. I got an email from Kaiser regarding Covid boosters. Wellspring had in bold blue that they offered the Moderna version. I made an appointment for the next day only to arrive and find out they had not any booster vaccines for two days. Bear in mind, I got a text message confirming my appointment but none telling me there was no way to get the vaccine. It's like that old Seinfeld joke...anyone can make an appointment, it's keeping it that's important. Really? You're talking appointments online but have no stock on hand. What a waste! I was hesitant to go because of some of the reviews, but thankfully all the staff I met were very friendly, informative, and efficient.

I was excited about this place for the delivery option and to have an alternative to Walgreens which we all know is the absolute pits. I have since become very very unexcited about this place. Reasons: 1. The reps are incredibly rude on the phone and in person. They speak in an annoyed tone of voice that I truly only hear coming from my younger siblings, never anyone else, much less customer reps. It's really offputting. I feel like this place hires based on how rude you can be since they all have this same weird attitude. 2. I have NOT ONCE had smooth interaction with this place. My delivery would never arrive on time. I'd have to keep calling to check in. Other times, the pharmacy would say that they had never gotten my prescription from the doctor. They also NEVER filled the correct manufacturer even though my prescription clearly states the preferred manufacturer. Every month it was the same song and dance. As a pharmacy, there needs to be a lot more care towards customers and their wellbeing. People are suffering when they come to a pharmacy, more so than most places. They are there to get something they NEED to live or live well! The reps need to act with more care. As a business, Wellspring needs to get their shit together in terms of day to day organization and functioning, or train reps better. The main reason to go with this pharmacy is their free delivery... I thought. Turns out their drivers are incapable of finding local addresses (which you don't find out until the next day since they deliver late into the evening) and even after spending time on the phone describing the address, they can't be counted on to deliver within 48 hours. I ended up waiting on hold three separate times (wait, how long does it actually take to look up an address??) with the phone attendant finally demanding that I make myself available *all day* in case the phone rang and the driver needed additional instructions. Um, this is not why I sign up for free delivery - the idea is to make getting the prescription a non-event. We all have better things to do than babysit our deliveries. In the end, I walked a block to my local CVS, got incredibly professional service from a wonderful pharmacist, text alerts when my prescription was ready - am not looking back. read more

I'm really disappointed in this pharmacy. They're taking advantage of the lack of availability for home covid test kits. While other places like CVS and Walgreens are selling Flowflex (1 test) for $9.99 and at Target for $5.00, Wellspring is selling them for $21.99 each. After finding out the huge discrepancy in pricing, I tried to return the kits I had just bought but was told "all sales are final which is printed on the receipt." First, who looks at their receipt right when they purchase something? I should have been informed by the cashier at the location while purchasing or there should be signs posted that state "all sales are final". Businesses (especially local ones) really need to do better than this. While I understand they need to make a profit, jacking up the price to this extent and taking advantage of people during a pandemic or even if we weren't in a pandemic is inexcusable. I'll take responsibility for my purchase but I also wanted to warn others out there of this pharmacy's shady business practices. UPDATE: response to the owner's reply. FIRSTLY, like I said in my original review, I take responsibility for my purchase. You are correct, you did clearly state the price is $21.99 for a single test kit. And, it is my fault for not pulling the the receipt out of the bag the cashier placed it into when handing me my purchase. I would have then seen the "all sales are final" printed on the receipt after I had already purchased the product. But that's not really the point of my review. It was to show the HUGE discrepancy between what other pharmacies were charging for the test kits and what you were charging and warning others not to make the same mistake I made. SECONDLY, I've listed three other well-known pharmacy retailers in my review with their pricing. There was no "ploy to lure" from these legitimate establishments. After purchasing the kits from Wellspring and realizing the exorbitant price Wellspring was charging, I called around to see which pharmacies still had covid tests in stock. I was able to find them at Rite AID and was able to buy a couple of the same test kits (Flowflex) for $9.99 each. While they maybe out of stock online, they did have a few left at their stores. They didn't jack up their pricing because of high demand. So yes, 70% below what you are selling them for. Just because you CAN charge more due to high demand, doesn't mean you should. Let me list a several things that work week for me plus one consideration. 1. Delivery: Convenient and flexible times, courteous deliverers, ALWAYS on time. 2. One-to-One: I deal with only 1 person for best service. 3. Medications packaged in wraps or trays by day & time. Allows tracking,avoids confusion. 4. When my docs or scripts change, they often call to schedule delivery before I do. 5. They were there w/ a brace for sprained ankle, OTC cold & pain meds, 1st aid kit & more. 6. Any mistakes that have been made over the years have been followed by sincere apologies and immediately corrected. 7. Phone is ALWAYS ANSWERED and with great customer service. 8. Knowledgeable Pharmacists are available for consultation 9. Last, but not least... Tao, Blanca, Lucy, Kevin and the folks have great big hearts and true professionalism, which maintains the overall confidence I require of my health partners to successfully deal with chronic illnesses. I've been going here since they opened, three years. I pay for my medications so i'm price sensitive and they've matched or did better than anywhere else except for one, Digoxin. When i go in to let them know i need a refill, they almost always have it already ready. When i went in for a Covid Phizer booster, went in got shot, left, no problem no delay, smoother than Stanford for my first and second shots. And when i have a question about medications, Andrew is informative and clear. Whenever i anticipate a difficulty (and anticipating is my job), i go to them and they take care of it. I used to be very impressed with the service, but the past year has been a nightmare. I have asked them multiple times to get an updated prescription from one of two local healthcare practitioners and repeatedly they've ignored me and keep contacting my LA physician--whom I have not seen in over three years--for refills. My local doctor called in ALL my prescriptions in September prior to her going on maternity leave. Despite her request for 11 refills, Wellspring claimed my prescription expired in May. It took them over a week to get it updated in their system (which apparently cannot handle more than five months worth of refills although they did admit seeing the additional refills and said they'd add them to my updated prescription--WTF?). They also claimed she only updated one of my prescriptions when I verified with her that all medications had been called in prior to her maternity leave. Then instead of getting the updated prescriptions that according to them she didn't update, they contacted my LA physician AGAIN for a refill after telling me the reason for the delay is because I told them not to contact her and to contact my local physicians instead. They don't accept my FSA card, so I've limited my prescriptions to compounding only. Despite this, they have filled prescriptions I did not request or authorize which has caused major hassles when I go to pick up my prescription at CVS who cannot fill it because Wellspring submitted the claim to my insurance. This has happened TWICE despite my specifically instructing them NOT to fill this prescription. I called in for a refill last Tuesday and was told it would be ready on Friday. Well, Andrew was out sick so nothing was filled for a week. In the meantime, I'm out of medication because they have no back-up to fill patient prescriptions. I will also be out of the medication that they filled without authorization because CVS cannot fill the prescription because they submitted a claim to my insurance company and they will not even be in for their usual two hours on Saturday to fix the issue due to renovations. Going without my medication due to their incompetence is not my idea of "ensuring that I receive the most appropriate care under the best possible circumstances." I used to be able to put up with the even less than banker's hours because the service and pricing made up for it, but every single interaction with them in the past year has been a major hassle. read more

FOLLOW UP...The CA State Board of Pharmacy has contacted me regarding the incident and has expressed interest in launching an investigation against WELLSPRING PHARMACY and PHARMACIST ANDREW BEYERS License #44183 *this is a warning to anyone who fills prescriptions at Wellspring Pharmacy on Piedmont Ave in Oakland * Today I got a prescription delivered to me and I noticed immediately that I was missing 3 pills from my 30 pill refill. I was given 27. Normally not a big deal so I called them. While waiting on hold to speak to the pharmacist I noticed the sticker on my box of medication stated the quantity of my script was 27, not 30. That was an actual CHANGE to my prescription of 30. The pharmacy decided on their own to alter my script so it read for 27 pills instead of the 30 pills my DOCTOR PRESCRIBED. So the pharmacist gets on the phone and I ask him why he changed my script from 30-27 when it's a medication that I take daily. He told me that because the medication was delivered in 9 pill boxes that it was easier to give me 27 instead of 30 "cuz of the packaging". I informed him that he is legally not allowed to alter my prescription for ease of dispensing and he hung up on me. He then called me back twice to which I did not answer and then he proceeded to leave a voicemail to which I did not listen to. I drove to the pharmacy and asked him for his name: ANDREW BEYERS and for his Pharmacist license #: 44183 He tried to tell me that it was I who hung up on him, not just once but twice. He claimed I answered the phone when he called back and had hung up on him again. So now I realize that he's a very whyte, very fragile and toxic man. I didn't care about the phone call but he was very invested in his employees seeing him "stand up for himself". I asked him to clarify the reason for altering my prescription from 30-27 and he reiterated that it was because of ease of dispensing. He then figured out that I was gathering this information because I am reporting him to the CA State Board of Pharmacists so he then started saying that "I know what yer doing, I know what yer trying to do to me" over and over again to which I told him that I was proud of him for figuring it out. Then he told me that he'd never fill another script of mine ever again. Duh....why would I ever want him to?!? Anywho, don't go the Wellspring Pharmacy. And if you do, please count yer meds and take photo copies of yer original paper scripts and watch out for any disparities from yer paper script to yer filled script. Tl;dr: Don't go here for your vaccination. The pharmacist clearly doesn't want to be administering them and takes it out on his customers. Like others, I had a very unpleasant experience with the pharmacist. I took my daughter here to get her COVID-19 vaccine booster. We got checked in efficiently and were asked to sit down to wait for the pharmacist. Someone was called in right before us, so I stepped outside for a minute or two to check on the parking code. When I returned, my daughter said she had been called back, but couldn't go because I wasn't there. We entered the vaccine area and no one was there. It was a very cramped space and I didn't know where to stand. After a few minutes, someone approached me to ask why I was there. I stated I was here for my daughter's booster appointment. The pharmacist looked up and muttered something about "the mom" and "not being there." When he got to where I was, he rudely said I wasn't in the right spot and I need to be on the other side, not in the pharmacy. Mind you, half my foot was in the pharmacy side, which was not at all clearly marked in the extremely cramped, tight space. I moved away like he asked saying I didn't know where I was supposed to be standing. He started lecturing me about how I wasn't there, it was causing everyone to be delayed, I was "throwing attitude" and what kind of an example was I setting for my daughter. Basically, he lectured me like I was a child and humiliated me in front of my daughter for 5 minutes. I would have left, but my daughter really wanted to get her booster. At one point, I said, "OK, let's not delay any more, can she get the vaccine now?" He then proceeded to lecture for a few more minutes. If he had just given the vaccination when we got there, without the condescending lecture, no one would have been delayed. Based on other reviews, I imagine he will reply and say that I didn't respect his time and should have been there. Granted, sure, it was unfortunate timing to step out for a minute and maybe I shouldn't have called him grumpy, but his treatment of me was WAY out of whack for my supposed crime. At one point he mentioned that they are giving vaccinations on top of their regular business (as though he is doing it out of the goodness of his heart) -- clearly it is stressing him out too much, so I would advise him to stop. Or maybe he is just one of those miserable people who make it their life's mission to make everyone around them miserable. In any event, I am so glad that I never have to go back to that awful place ever again. Oh, AND he let my daughter go immediately after the vaccine was administered instead of asking her to wait the 15 minute observation period like every other place I or my family has gotten the vaccine. Again, this pharmacy should not be administering vaccines -- they aren't set up for it. Update: We were told by the front staff to go into the vaccination area -- I did not burst in without permission. I misjudged the time it would take for the person before me. This is unquestionably my favorite pharmacy in the Bay Area. I've gone twice now and recommended Wellspring to my friends. Definitely worth it for anyone in the East Bay, and maybe even worth the drive across the bridge. Andrew, the owner, is an "old time" pharmacist -- he actually talks with patients about their medication, is proactive in making sure the medication is appropriate, and that patients understand potential side effects. It's a small shop which is entirely devoted to pharmacy and a few OTC medications and supplements, not a discount grocery/toiletries/candy store with a small pharmacy hidden in the back. I initially thought a small independent pharmacy would be more expensive, but Wellspring's prices, both on and off insurance, were lower than at Walgreens or CVS. They're willing to adjust prices downward if your insurance doesn't cover something, if they have some margin on the item. It's actually fast, too -- rather than having 4 techs and one pharmacist slowly filling a bunch of orders, Wellspring seems to never be more than a few minutes wait -- or you can have your doctor phone in the prescription in advance. The only slight negative is parking in the neighborhood -- it's busy with a lot of nice restaurants, so street parking is hard to find. There's a lot about half a block away which is also sometimes full (especially at lunch). However, Wellspring delivers, so that might work out better for some people. read more

Rude, unprofessional, condescending. This is is the worst pharmacy in the area. Tried to get a Covid booster because they were listed on my turn as a walk-in. My wife was told by a pharmacist that walk-ins were accepted 12:45 - 4PM Monday through Friday. Went in at 3:15 on Friday, they were closed. Called following Monday and was told: They close at 3 on Friday. My wife pointed out that the website says 5PM on Fridays and that the pharmacist said I could come in between 12:45 and 4PM. She was told that "everyone knows we close early and the way to check hours is on yelp. (Yelp also says 5PM.) Was also told that the pharmacist could not have said walk-ins were available. My wife was part of the conversation, they were not, so she knows what was said. She was transferred to the head pharmacist who confirmed their stubborn belief that no one on staff would give misinformation. He sarcastically said I could come in at Midnight. He asked if I would be there. She said yes, he said I won't. He hung up on her. He did not apologize for their mis-information, nor try to give any assistance to alleviate their mistake. He was actually a total jerk. I see other reviews criticizing their covid policies, I certainly would not count on this group to adhere to standards regarding vaccines. read more

They are the absolute best in service. After having to wait up to a week for refills at CVS, I called Wellspring at my physicians suggestion. Not only did they pick up my prescription (some prescriptions have to be walked in to the pharmacy/the doctors cannot just call them in due to new federal requirements) at my office - but before I got to work the next morning MY REFILL WAS DELIVERED!! All in less than 24 hours. They were so courteous and helpful and the fact that they can deliver a refill is such a time saver. I only wish I had started using them years ago. read more

They've gone beyond just being a pharmacy. They've delivered medication late into the evening, helped out with any insurance problems. They even get to know you by name. We travel from Hayward because of their professional and friendly service. We recently had a problem arise from an incorrect prescription, when they saw it they called us immediately. I was in dire need of a new pharmacy, i try not to use the same ones as my clients but CVS was pissing me and my medical team off. So i said lets try Wellspring they have been good with my client amazing and deliver once a month for free. THEY HAVE NOT DISAPPOINTED. Jennifer is ALWAYS professional and polite and they get pronouns CORRECT. Where CVS took WEEKS to get my medications for a chronic no cure disease and would get later and later every month or never have them ready on time 2 WORKING DAYS is all this pharmacy took and they were done.
