This hotel is situated in the more affluent southern suburbs of Belfast not far from Queens University with many of the campus buildings in its surrounds. The building is located near a small cluster of pubs, restaurants and fast food outlets. Check in was not the best... After driving for several hours to Belfast and arriving late-ish and hungry the gentleman manning the reception didn't greet us with a smile and chose to take an incoming phone call prior to giving us our keycard. Understandable that at that time the reception is only manned by one person but placing the caller on hold for a few moments to see us sorted wouldn't hurt. Being the first impression for the property its ultimately important (and hardly expensive) for the receptionist to smile for guests. I did however manage to get half a smile out the man the next morning. The common areas of the hotel appeared to be more recently updated than the rooms and corridors, however many furnishings were worn.The corridor could do with a lick of paint and renewed carpet as the existing fittings are well worn/marked. Room furnishings were a bit plain and not like those advertised on the website. Beds were comfortable. No air conditioning (in our room anyway) - not a problem in December but consider this if you are staying over summer. The bathroom was fine, with a good strong shower. The water saving tap on the sink was a bit ridiculous as you need to run the tap for about a minute for the water to get warm. Breakfast included the usual hot options of full Irish with cereal, yoghurt, fruits and breads. Tea and brewed coffee supplied to the table by friendly staff. Overall an OK stay, the property could do well to make some updates to furnishings, and perhaps some extra training for one of the reception staff. Parking is 5 quid overnight which is a bit much considering street parking is available all around - however we were given free parking validation on checkout which was a nice gesture. Free WiFi is also available and was accessible from the rooms as well as the common areas, with the occasional drop out. I've stayed in much better 4-star hotels elsewhere so the money I would probably try somewhere else next time to Belfast. read more

Having lived in Belfast for all my life, but never having actually been in to this hotel, I recently went for a work function, and really liked it. It's a lot bigger inside than you realise, with various function rooms and an expansive lounge and bar/restaurant area, serving those staying in the hotel, and business folks and travellers passing through. The reception staff were very helpful, and the function I attended was well sign-posted and easy to find - there was a constant supply of tea and coffee, pastries and muffins, as well as orange juice and water. The food we had was lovely too, piping hot and tasty, and we were given a full three courses for lunch - unusual for an event like that, I thought. All in all, the hotel is pleasant and inviting and seems well run and professional. I can't speak for the hotel rooms, but the main areas of the hotel were all clean and well-maintained. There is plenty of parking for patrons also. read more

I met a couple of colleagues for a meeting over a coffee. We were in the spacious lobby and I availed of the comfy sofa whilst the others had the chairs. The staff were fantastic and took our drinks order and the beverages duly arrived piping hot. There is free wifi available and a nice buzz when more people fill up the lobby. There is onsite parking and a fully stocked bar and dining facilities. read more

The Wellington Park Hotel (or the Welly Boot as it affectionately known locally) is a four-star place on Belfast's affluent Malone Road. While I haven't stayed overnight here, I work not too far away and am a regular in the restaurant for food and drinks, usually at evening time. I should stress that my experience with the Welly has only been for food. I'm aware that on weekend nights, the place gets overrun with hordes of middle-aged divorcées (I mean no disrespect, middle-aged divorcées, but I've walked past the Welly at kicking-out time and it hasn't really been a pretty sight). This just makes me respect the staff more. Over a number of years, I have always found the staff to be really courteous. I've never had an even remotely unpleasant experience with food... Indeed, the menu tends to veer away from usual hotel staples (think lasagne, MOR curry) towards surprisingly elegant and well-priced stuff like the turbot and sauce vierge I enjoyed recently. And half-decent vegetarian options. How often can you say that? If you can ignore the fact that the building itself looks like a grim communist-era monument from the outside, you'll find some good food and great service within. read more

I went to the Welly Park as it's fondly known recently for the first time in ten years and I hope it's at least another ten before I go again. The term 'meat market' was invented for this place. As was the word 'desparado'. It was late on a Friday night and my friends and I were very much the worse for wear but I was still able to process the fact that everyone was a) over 45 and b) sizing each other up. Eeeek!! And the clientele weren't the classiest bunch I have ever seen. Having said that, I know I am lucky to be happily married and not 'out there' looking for someone and *maybe* if I was, the Welly Park would be a good place to start looking. All the vital components were there - full bar, cheesy music blaring etc etc. So if you are on the look out for a new someone special and you are on the far side of 40, the Welly Park could be for you. read more

Having looked at the other reviews the Welly has got, I feel a bit easily pleased giving it 4/5 but although it absolutely isn't one of the classiest locations in the city, any time I've been there, I've always had good craic! I'v never stayed in the hotel or eaten there, but I've been there for drinks a couple of times. A couple of years ago we were having our work Christmas do at a restaurant nearby and we weren't able to keep our table longer than 2 hours, so we held a vote for where to go afterwards. The Welly was one of 4 options, and was the winner. This led to absolute outrage from some colleagues, however as it was a majority choice, that's where we went. After the night out, those very people who were moaning, spoke of what a great time they'd had there, so don't judge, give it a go! I do recommend arranging a pre booked taxi for the end of the night though, as it's in a very busy area and you could potentially be waiting for ages otherwise! read more

I stayed here last week and was NOT impressed. The interior of the hotel is lovely, but the rooms are not. I cannot believe this is a 4 star hotel! The staff were lovely but the room looked like a 2-star from the 90's. The shower was wonky, meaning it was very difficult to have a shower without twisting to get under the waterstream. The breakfast was lovely and there is a great selection of food including cereals, fruit, hot food and pastries. We nearly went into the car park until we saw the price! £2 per hour and £5 to park overnight! We parked on the street outside. Overall, although there were good points, I will not be staying here again. read more

I don't really frequent the Welly Boot too much. it's really for a more...how do I put this?...mature crowd. My main experience with the place has been as a Christmas dinner venue, which I suppose isn't the best time to review a venue since it's not really representative of what it's like the rest of the year, but you work with you got, right? The function room we were in was pretty big and the food (even with it being Christmas party season) was dead on. Since it's a hotel (or maybe just because they felt like bumping them up), the bar prices were pretty steep, so it turned into an expensive night. The music was standard Christmas party fare too, which, by all accounts is what you can expect on a weekly basis - crowd-pleasing floor-fillers. I can't imagine I'll ever spend too much time there, but I suppose if I ever get to the point where I'm *insert appropriate age here* and still looking for that elusive husband, maybe I'll have no choice but to give it another go. I've had a few meetings at the Welly Park hotel although I have never stayed the night here. It's a really handy location to conduct business meetings with free wifi (ask behind the bar) and great coffee you can't really go wrong. Every time I have been in I have managed to get a table in the bar/restaurant - there's plenty of nooks and crannies if the meeting is top secret. The staff offer a table service even if you're having coffee which is great of you are pressed for time and want to talk shop straight away. read more

The kind of 4-star hotel where you would wonder where those stars came from. The location is not too bad and that's all about the positive side. The building itself gives an impression of being a bit outdated and the interior will not challenge this. The whole experience kind of takes you back a couple of decades. The place could really do with a refurbishment. Food is quite bland although I only tried it once. Every weekend there is a quite messy disco party open to the public which is not the best if you are looking for a quiet night's stay. read more

The 'Welly Park' for me was always one of those places in Belfast that I wanted to try out, but never had. Well recently I did, and I wasnt disappointed! From the moment I stepped in, everything looked very impressive and well designed. The reception staff were very hepful when booking in and the lifts situated right beside the check in desk made it very easy to get our luggage up to our room. The room itself was a reasonably sized en-suite double room with plenty of wardrobe space and had a TV hooked up to Sky to enjoy once we got settled in. When we got unpacked we decided to go downstairs to the bar for a drink and to see what entertainment there was on offer. There were two bars open which was handy for getting a drink - one in the lounge and one beside the events hall eing used for a disco. There was a decent range of drinks available and were priced well for a hotel. We stayed for a few drinks before heading off elsewhere. Suitably hungover the next morning we came down for breakfast to find a great selection of fresh fruit, cereals, fruit juices, tea and coffee, as well as a full Irish cooked breakfast and all was very well recieved! Overall I found the Welly Park a very pleasant experience and at £69 per night for a room suitable for two people I found it good value for money! read more

I loved this place! Belfast is very expensive, but this hotel was significantly less than others downtown. The location is great, my room overlooked residential row housing that looked a lot like San Fran. But my favorite part was that the room was 2 stories. It was more like renting a condo. The bed was in a loft area upstairs, and downstairs had a bathroom and a living room, complete with a fireplace. The location is plenty close enough to major attractions like the university and the botanical gardens. I walked to both and found a great restaurant just down the street. read more
