We stayed at the hotel Europa for two nights in Belfast. This is a modern hotel with a breakfast buffet included in your room. There is a bar on the second floor that has a pianist and live music, and an enormous cheese plate and bread plate that are easily shared among three people. This hotel is centrally located and easy to navigate through the rest of Belfast. Our room was smallish, but pretty standard for European hotels. read more

Prime location in Belfast - a most ideal setting to play tourist. Step outside and you're in the heart of the city. So many hot spots are nearby - the metro, grocery stores, the famous Crown bar, restaurants galore, city hall, shopping center, etc. Room size is cozy for 2 people but just right for one person. I especially liked that there's a small desk and chair PLUS a built in booth and table which offers additional seating. It makes for a cozy setting. The one thing to be aware of is the all glass bathroom so if you're sharing the room, there is no bathroom or shower privacy! Hopefully not all the rooms are setup that way. Breakfast is very nice, offering a generous spread. Seating is assigned so the restaurant can manage headcount but generally not a big issue. Look for the Bushmills whiskey that they offer as a generous add on to your oatmeal - haha! It makes for an unexpected boozy breakfast start to the day. :) I thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Europa in Belfast and would gladly stay here again next time I'm visiting. read more

A beautiful hotel, from the lobby to the classy, yet comfortable Piano Bar to our lovely suite, obtained via a complimentary upgrade we received by booking online. The venue is made even more enjoyable by a staff that is uniformly courteous, helpful, and professional. There are more and less expensive hotels in Belfast, but there are very likely none better than the Europa. Spectacular hotel in a perfect location in Belfast. Located right near the main train station and close to several bus stations that will take you to Belfast/Dublin airports and beyond, the Europa is exceedingly convenient. Unlike many easily accessible hotels, however, the surrounding area is quite lovely, almost even a bit neighborhood-y. Easy walk to the riverfront for great views. Don't miss the botanic gardens, also an easy walk from the Europa. Many fine restaurants and pubs nearby, including the restaurants in the lobby and first floor of the hotel. Service at the desk/concierge was always helpful, warm and friendly. Although I had no issues during my stay, I'm sure they would have been address promptly if I had. Lovely rooms - quite spacious by European standards. Great water pressure in the bathroom and I loved the soaking tub in my rooms. Bed was extremely comfortable and the linens felt quite luxe. Absolutely would stay here again next time I'm in Belfast. read more

An iconic hotel to visit for sure. Whether checking in as a guest or simply enjoying a drink in the lounge, this is a must when visiting Belfast. I was on a bus tour and had the pleasure of meeting a young waiter named Jack. He was the nicest young man with a wonderful attitude. He was patient with us when explaining items we were not familiar with and his smile lit up the room. We stopped by just to say we had a beer in the Most Bombed Hotel in all of Europe. We chose to sit upstairs in the Piano Bar area, looking out onto the street. The ambiance is beautiful; we sat in gorgeous chairs at the elegant table area; laying back and taking it all in. Their beers on tap, while not a lot of variety, provided beer we hadn't seen anywhere else. The staff were very pleasant, it's a nice stop for a brew. read more

I'd love to be able to rate this grand looking hotel higher than one star, but I can't. We were here for a conference where my partner was speaking. Check in is from 3pm but, as all seasoned and frequent travelers know, hotels of a certain calibre often make it possible to check-in earlier; not the Europa. We were told that, unfortunately, we couldn't check-in until all of the rooms for the conference attendees had been made ready. At 3pm initially the receptionist still said it would not be possible to check-in, this time I said I would wait, then housekeeping were called on a walkie-talkie and she confirmed that indeed our room was now ready. On getting to the room, we marvelled at just how clearly we could hear the "fourth floor" announcement from the lift. Thank goodness we were 3 rooms away from the lifts, or it would have been louder. What was louder than the lift announcements was the sound from the room next door, not that they were being loud, just that the wall had all the sound insulation qualities of a megaphone. Unfortunately, that is not the limit of discomfort. The furnishings in the room clearly have not been changed since smoking has no longer been allowed. Our clothes which were over the chairs are now reeking of stale smoke. I couldn't believe it would actually be smoke, I mean, hasn't smoking been banned indoors for a decade at least? Then I saw the lace curtains and there are clear smoke stains on them. This hotel clearly thinks highly of itself, a real shame they don't extend that thought to the health of their guests by removing the smoke remnants. The Europa offered us the opportunity to stay for "the conference rate" of just £100 per night. The room we had wouldn't merit half of that. Finally, on checking out, they didn't bother asking how our stay had been, which is a shame, as I'd gladly have told them. read more

Here's the thing about this hotel, it's beautiful and is oozing with character. The restaurants and bars are brilliant and delicious. The rooms however make no sense. Put yourself in this scenario, you go out to a night out with a new relationship and end your night in this stunning and romantic hotel. You come into your room and say, I need to use the toilet... we'll there's no door, it's just a piece of glass. So god forbid anyone has to do their business, the person you're with can hear and see everything going on with their body. If it's not just glass, it's smoked glass, which helps with the visual, but is still wrong. Also, who decided not having a full shower door was a good idea? Did you know on average 2 people a day get sent to hospital for bathroom related injuries? If I was elderly and showered, couldn't see because I'm old and how wet I just made the floor because there was half of a shower door gone, then I would slip and hurt myself. It makes no sense to me. There's also no fridge which is incredibly unfortunate. I rest my case. When did humans forget we're humans. Anyways the hotel is great just don't stay unless you're alone and don't mind cracking your head open read more

The Europa Hotel is absolutely beautiful. It is a bit difficult if your not familiar with Belfast to actual drive to the entrance and your only option is to valet (if there is self parking it is above my ability to figure it out and no one offered.). The valets were awesome and so helpful. Our room - it was faiirly basic but clean. The issue was there was NO heat. Luckily the hotel sent up people to fix it, but it was just a process and I was tired. The shower was scalding - never really figured that out so we took a quick shower and thank goodness for dry shampoo. There are multiple bars and lounges and restaurants. We had drinks both nights in the piano bar and ordered dessert. So good and they were so nice plus the view was lovely. We ate breakfast in the restaurant off the lobby and it was very good and the staff was willing to accommodate any requests. The lobby bar our first stop upon arrival gets really busy with people stopping in after work, but that made it perfect for people watching. Quick tip from the bartender - our bill had a line for gratuity, as the majority of restaurants did not have this during our travel and we had to switch from Euro to Pound Sterling I asked how much would be a proper and he told me to leave it blank because the hotel would keep it and it is not given to the staff. read more

A really great place for lunch when in Belfast. Comfortable seating and great table service. My wife and I had the twin burgers and the chicken wrap both with chips. I won an overnight stay inc breakfast at my office Christmas party and we used this recently for my birthday. After a lot of shopping in the City Centre we made our way to check in around 3.30pm. Check in was welcoming and pleasant and we made our way to our room. Our room was one of the recently decorated superior rooms facing out onto Great Victoria Street. Room was spacious, well laid out and had everything we needed. Bathroom was bright, modern and interesting with its frosted glass door. Beds were very comfortable and luxurious but the walls between the rooms are very thin and we could hear a lot of noise in the early hours & wake up calls from 6am - however it did not ruin our stay. We had drinks in the lobby bar in the evening before and after heading out for dinner and it's a beautiful area to relax and enjoy a tipple. Prices were standard and staff very helpful. Bar food is available in the lobby bar too and although quite a limited menu, I could've chosen at least 3/4 items to suit my tastes. Breakfast was buffet style but well manned. Everything you'd expect from fried items, cereal, toast and porridge. A hot whiskey station and great selection of drinks, yoghurts, fruits etc. Overall our overnight stay was a lovely way to spend a birthday in the City, a little noisy but I wasn't expecting dead silence anyway :) I have my eye on the afternoon tea offering for next time and I cannot wait to head back this year for our Christmas party again - never had a bad meal in The Europa. read more

My wife and I were fortunate to stay at the most iconic hotel in Belfast. We checked in at 3pm yesterday (Sat) and were amazed by the spacious room and our lovely arrival gifts. We got suited and booted and headed out for dinner and drinks before returning to our massive comfy bed for a great nights sleep. After a long overdue lie in it was get ready, pack and head down to the 120 seater Causerie restaurant for the best hotel breakfast I've had-and all locally sourced and traceable food. Breakfast was a limited continental style, cereals and of course cooked. We had a bit of everything.Breakfast is served until 11am and the restaurant manager Mr Jabbar Abdul looked after us very well. After our late (12 noon) checkout it was off home!! Lighting in bathroom was poor and location of room made natural light in main room poor. Good luck putting on your makeup. No gym at the hotel. No adequate seating in lobby. Pillows were too fluffy (no firm option available) PROS: The "one" bath towel in the room was extra large. Within walking distance in heart of city center. We stayed two nights while visiting friends in Northern Ireland. This is a beautiful, iconic hotel. The lobby was decorated for Christmas with a gorgeous tree and two toy soldiers. Every staff member we encountered was pleasant, helpful and friendly. Our room as a bit on the small side, but the bed was so comfortable. The mattress was like a cloud and we had two fluffy pillows each. There are no facilities for ice, but the bartender at the Piano Bar gave us ice when we needed it. Breakfast was included, fresh array of sausages, puddings, tomato, mushrooms, poached or scrambled eggs, fruit, soda or potato bread, cereals, porridge, something for everyone. We ate in the restaurant once, and it was okay. I didn't know that Scampi in Ireland is fried shrimp served with french fries. I was expecting shrimp over linguine with garlic and lemon. The potato and leek soup however, was outstanding. Centrally located, within walking distance of so many attractions. Robinsons and the Crown Bar are right across the street. Not very pricey either. If we find ourselves back in NI, we will stay here again ! read more

The hotel in itself is one of the top 3 or 4 in the city. My parents stayed in here (i have a house) but i did meet them for a drink or five in the hotel bar. Very very clean and friendly hotel. The staff are very nice and smile even though you know hotel work must be a pain. The Europa is Belfast best known hotel and also the one Hillary Clinton chose to stay in when she visited Belfast last year. Apparently she booked the entire top floor and brought her own linen. The hotel is luxurious and lives up to it star rating with 272 top class rooms. I've drank in the piano bar upstairs before whilst waiting for a bus and the bar was very nice and luxurious. I sank down into the deep sofa. The bar also has great views of Belfast. The staff were very conscientious and very helpful. Of course it has the infamous tag of being the 'most bombed hotel in Europe', but don't let that put you off. read more

As everyone knows, the Europa was once the most bombed hotel in Europe - a fact Billy Connolly said 'Thanks for ****ing telling me' when made aware of it on checking in. Apparently this was because journalist types could most often be found in the pub The Crown just across the road, so the bombers knew this was the most likely spot to bomb so that the story would get out as soon as possible. As a journalist this accurate assessment of our work habits pleases me, even if I would have been peeved at the time to leave my drink behind. I haven't stayed in the Europa, but, also like pretty much everyone, have passed through its doors several times, for job interviews, journalist interviews, conferences or nights out, and it's a lovely spot to visit. I always feel like a bit of a pleb going into expensive places, like I think someone's going to clap their hand on my shoulder and throw my scruffy self out on my ear, but I've always felt comfortable in the Europa. And when I walked past it at the weekend, there were fools abseiling down it, which is admirable in its foolhardiness and made for a nice scene as gasping tourists took photos. read more

Stayed in the Europa for 2 nights at the start of January as a Christmas present from my wife. I would never have considered a hotel in Belfast since we live so close anyway, but in conjunction with the theatre and a few other great events, it really proved worthwhile as a base from which to enjoy various events. The hotel itself was excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful or attentive. The room was large, well-appointed and showed very few signs of wear and tear which was great. The AC was efficient and quiet and kept the room at a stable and comfortable temperature. The windows (aided by being on the 5th floor) isolated city centre noise very well. All in all the room was fantastic and all aspects were as comfortable and convenient as could be imagined, the only drawback being that on arriving in the room at first it was a little cool, although this was quickly addressed by the heating system it took a while longer to warm the bathroom due to the lack of dedicated heating in there. The food in the lounge on the day we arrived was quite average, a little bland, which should not be the case for something so expensive, the coffee was also quite good but at over £4 for an Americano it is very heavily priced. On the other hand the breakfast (included in the price of our room) was excellent. Self-service cooked breakfast, toast, cereal etc was excellent, all cooked to perfection and stocked well on the morning to match the guests so that nothing was left out for long. All in all it was a great experience and one I would be happy to do again, despite not living much more than half an hour away! read more

5 couples in our group were given rooms on the 8th floor only to be greeted by paint cans, tarps and unfinished painted walls! We walked into our room and found ladders and vacuum cleaners! We went down stairs and the girl took us back upstairs and gave us another room. We still had the whole floor full of paint smell, tarps and ladders outside of our door. They should have put us on a new floor! Instead they just said sorry. This is how they treat Americans? Wow! read more

The Europa has a Lobby Bar, an upstairs Piano Bar and a Causerie Restaurant. I've never stayed overnight in the Europa but have been in the Lobby Bar numerous times over the years and it's a pleasant enough bar - if a little lacking in atmosphere. Was in the Piano Bar once a few months ago for a nice bottle of wine and a cheeseboard - tasty! Today I visited the Causerie restaurant for the first time and indulged in the vegetarian Superfood salad which was delicious. It was good but a little pricey. I would return to eat in the Europa but do think they need to offer bigger food portions or else lower their prices a little. Lovely spot all the same. I will return. read more

I gotta say, I'm less than impressed. In fact, seriously underwhelmed might be a better statement. It's a lovely hotel, visually, and the interior hallways and fittings are warm and inviting, which is about all I can give it stars for. The bed was very nice; and the shower, with its plate-sized shower head and awesome pressure/heat was brilliant. Service was lackluster, in that "You're not important enough for me to really bother about...but you might be somebody's relative so I'll give you the minimum" way. We called the desk with a problem with our TV and nobody ever came to fix it. Food was OMG boring and insipid, if nicely presented. Coffee at breakfast was horrid. The room was tiny, but navigable, but the bathroom was just too cramped.. There was barely enough room to put Herself's makeup bag and my shaving kit on the counter area, and no place to put fresh clothes/jammies out except on the toilet seat. No hooks, shelves, bars or other. AND...speaking of toilets...I'm not sure whose bright idea it was to 1)have translucent bathroom door that 2) doesn't close which 3) meant that all toilet activities were both clearly audible and somewhat visible to anybody in the bed area of the small room. One of the secrets of a happy marriage is keeping SOME stuff to yourself...very difficult to do in that environment... Lastly, the main doors to the rooms weigh about 100lbs each and have no hydraulic closure, so all night long our room literally echoed with the enormous bangs of doors that were left to close on their own. It was so bad that I nearly jumped out of my skin when I forgot and let my own door slam behind me, it was that loud. Bottom line: I don't care who stayed there, or why it was cool back in the day...I care about substance over style... read more

I was at the Europa at the weekend for a friend's birthday party. The Europa itself is a lovely hotel, the common areas we were in were beautifully decorated, and the stairs leading up to to the suite we were in had a photographic timeline showing the colourful and sometimes troubled history of the hotel. Our party was held in a function room which was spacious, and well laid out with a bar to ourselves. They had laid on a buffet too and the food was delicious! A fun night was had by all, however I take a star off due to the price of the drinks, for example, one coke, plus a vodka and white =just over £14? Robbery! read more

Probably the nicest hotel in Belfast City Center. We booked last minute while on the ferry over from Scotland. They only had a room for one night, but we took it. The room was nice and served our needs. Where they really stood out to me was the next day. The man who checked us in remembered us from the day before and let us know that a room had just become available. He even called the hotel that we were going to move to and was able to get that room cancelled at no charge. These are the things that stand out to me. We also used the concierge a couple times and those guys were great as well. They set us up with a private cab tour of the Protestant and Catholic neighborhoods by the peace wall with an amazing history lesson. I would recommend doing this if you have the time. It was amazing. I would give this hotel six stars if I could! read more

Great hotel with very nice staff. The 3 stars are for the ability to sleep, the majority of the rooms are unairconditioned and face a very busy street. It was warm the nights we stayed and our only choice was to open the window and the curtains. All night there were street noises, people leaving the pubs screaming and yelling and the ever present cross walk beeping all night long. Before you think I was on a low floor, I was on the 10th and the curve of the hotel focused the noise so that voices like very near you. I was recently in Belfast for a work trip, and as always left the travel booking to a colleague. So when I arrived and saw the Europa hotel, I was actually a bit gobsmacked...it's pretty swanky in here. The Europa is all shiny and marble, with a restaurant, a more casual bar and then a piano lounge. I was lucky enough to be here for 4 days, but as it was a pretty busy week I didn't stray too far away from the hotel any evening. The service all week was always really attentive, and I'll definitely go back some time as I never got the chance to eat in the restaurant which looked lovely. read more

Very nice hotel, great location next to Opera house and Bus station. The rooms are small but very well appointed. The bed was THE most comfy hotel bed I have ever slept on, the pillow top was a nice touch. Staff was gracious, (although the front desk attendant insisted on a print out of my email booking confirmation, even though I had the confirmation number. He said he could not honor my reservation without it. Hello I am traveling I do not have access to a printer! Luckily the concierge has net access and let me print a copy) and the huge can style shower head kicked ass. There were also no car bombs during our stay, so that was a plus. read more

I haven't been to the Europa hotel that much, definitely less times than it has been bombed!!! However I have eaten here a few times and been to a couple of formals. It seems to be a very large grand and luxurious hotel at the heart of Belfast and is an ambassador of the city. Its sign can be seen from miles away and is a landmark for most. I had a friend who used to play at the piano bar upstairs, it was always a great time to go and listen. I remember seeing on bbc1 a local show that profiled this hotel, its funny that they were able to make a tv show out of it but there was a segment in the show that focused on teenage girls stalking celebrities that came to stay. I now feel like a bit of a saddo to have watched such drivel..but it was interesting enough. read more

This was one of my favorite hotels in Northern Ireland. The place just feels homey, even the cheap rooms. Great view from where our floor was, and lighting in the room just makes you feel at ease, and at peace. The beds were comfy, and wide enough. Unlike other hotels in Ireland, it doesn't get crazy sweaty hot. They have a good temperature gauge within in the room. Everything you need to see is walking distance, and few great pubs to hang out across the street. Don't forget to take advantage of the breakfast buffet in the morning.
