I have been here 3-4 times and not written it up. Just did not have time. Came this week for lunch and sat at bar for quick gourmet lunch. It was restaurant week so had the 2 course lunch for $20. It was great. Bib Salad could have been a little fresher or not as beat up. Taste was good. The Samoan dish I had was prepared and seasoned perfectly. I assume they stuck it in the salamander as it was Uber crispy in the outside but nice and tender juicy in the inside. Also came with dessert some take on a donut and was excellent with my espresso. My friend and I were the first ones to eat lunch today at W+M. We came at 1030 and we're graciously greeted by a server who told us that while we can't be seated for lunch, we can browse their bakery and be seated at the seats in the bakery. The attendant first gave us an intro to their bakery goods and we bought many with coffee. We sat in the bakery for about 10 min and when it was 11am our table was ready (when lunch time started). We ordered duck salad which was very delicious. The duck was well cooked thoroughly. The gnocchi had a great consistency in its taste and wasn't as starchy as other gnocchi I've had in the past. Not shown is the zucchini and carrot fritters which were amazing. The honey glazed on top was the perfect addition. The only dish I don't recommend was the cheese ravioli. It was a Small portion and only 3 pieces of small shrimp. It did not fill me up and it didn't not taste as well--the cheese and shrimp were not a good mixture of taste. Overall I would highly recommend you to visit this place. Def order their duck salad, gnocchi, and from their bakery! read more

Nope. With or without the Pestilence, this is not a place I'd give a dollar to again. I've unfortunately stayed in many a Hilton Garden Inn. I know them when I see them. And while the constant drone of 70's yacht rock tried to throw me off the scent, by the time the check came, I really thought there should be an option to put the meal on my room. Here's the dinner readout: Shrimp spaghetti = 2 shrimp, some cherry tomatoes, and cubed bacon, over bland angel hair pasta. $24. So, yes. $12 per shrimp. The 3 scallops with risotto, at $7 per scallop, were a bargain in comparison. Tiny baguette with an equal sized amount of butter for $4. Absolutely a bland, nothing special. Another night on business travel at the Hilton Garden Inn, except with Doobie Brothers and that Wildfire song in soft loop. Drinks were decent and merit the star above worst possible experience. Service was okay initially, but vanished with only water at the table for 20 minutes while we waited awkwardly for the check. The manager eventually delivered it when we politely asked, without apology. Bottom line: This place is overpriced, vapid, boring, and without purpose or identity. And you've seen this before... on some crappy trip to Cleveland or Charlotte. The restaurant without the wait, a crudo appetizer artfully placed on the menu by corporate, where nobody knows your name, and nobody really cares... but they'll take your money. Nope. read more

First off I appreciate that they accept reservation because I try to avoid waiting as much as possible. I recommend you to rsvp because this place is always busy. There's a lot a big parking lot, however, on the weekend it does get full so you will have to park on the streets (plenty!). This place is spacious, gorgeous decors and great friendly staffs. There's also patio seatings with cover! For a brunch place they definitely have a great drinks selections (beer, wine and cocktails). Cappuccino (4/5) Cake donuts & fried chickens (4/5) - The cake donut was nice and soft, but chicken was a little dried. Cracked egg pizza (4/5) - love that there's more than just one eggs on the pizza :) Smoked salmon toasts (3/5) - so much eggs and little salmon. Id prefer 4.5 stars. Been here 8-10 times and never had a bad meal. Their pizza is really good multiple options. Had some pastas. Very good. Had brunch here. Excellent. Danishes are outstanding. I don't drink coffee but they seem to have a deep coffee roster. Even got to eat in the bread room once. Much quieter. If you can get it for a group go for it. Service pretty solid. Lively bar scene. They have TVs. Outdoor seating if you want to know what it feels like eating in a jungle (tad hot and steamy for a lot of the year). Overall a solid eating experience with some dishes that are outstanding. Love the hummus dish preparation and had the pappardelle with scallops and shrimp. Quite good though sauce a bit bland. Beware of ordering steak! After seeing my mother's medium-well tenderloin had absolutely no pink, I decided to order a medium-rare steak and received the photo below. The waitress was great - but she totally lost me when we asked her to let the chef know he was overcooking the meat, and she responded that we must undercook our meat, should be aware of that, and should adjust our orders in the future accordingly. I think the food here is alright and I do like the staff at this establishment, but there's something to be said for telling a customer, "We made a mistake and thanks for letting us know so we can fix it in the future," rather than implying a table doesn't know what a medium rare steak looks/tastes like. Bottom line - stick to the pizzas, apps and pastas. Or for those who don't like well-done meat, ask for your steak less cooked than rare. read more

A very disappointing experience tonight. The restaurant appears to be understaffed for a Saturday night. The poor waitperson (Cynthia) had too many tables to provide anything approaching adequate service. My order of mussels could not be filled as they ran out of mussels by 7pm. Poor planning, I was offered clams as a replacement and I was looking forward to a hearty bowl of clams. Instead I was provided a tasteless seafood pasta dish while other tables were served bowls full of clams. I was very disappointed with the food and the service. I like to get pizza from here, the location is interesting as it is not around other restaurants but still the food is creative and delicious. I think the name of the pizza I got was called 'morning side' it had a poached egg on top of each slice. Great bakery to find some tasty bake goods from and the drinks as well are interesting. First impressions are a very modern slick place to drink and eat ! A couple friends and I decide to go here for a work lunch. It is a pretty pricey menu for what you get, but the quality of the ingridents and service covers the cost. They also have an in house bakery/cafe for coffee and dessert, but brunch/dinner is were this place shines. Lunch hours can be pretty packed and if you don't have reservations on the weekends for brunch, good luck getting in. Parking lot is pretty small, but there is some street parking available around the restaurant. Everything bagel with salmon 4/5 - decently size bagel with delicious smoke salmon/lox and fresh veggies Wood burn chicken BLT 3/5 - the chicken was not dry and paired nicely with bacon and avocado, but it was light on their garlic aioli so it made the sandwich a bit dry. For some reason the chips that came with all our orders came out soggy, otherwise they would've been perfect. Sausage and pepperoni pizza 3/5 - I really wanted to like this pizza, it was beautiful present with fresh herbs, mozzarella, and olive oil drizzle. Although the sauce tasted freshly made, it was too much on the pizza which made is soggy. And for a restaurant to have an in house bakery I expected alot more from the crust/dough of the pizza. It being close to closing, but all the tables were still full, so we opted for open seating at the bar. We didn't drink, but we still ate! I had the doughnuts and chicken and my fiancee had the soft shell crab benedict. Both dishes were delicious! The doughnuts were fluffy and not too sweet, the syrup came on the side so I was able to dip both the chicken and the doughnuts in them. Weights + Measures was already one of my favorite bars in Houston, however during the Pandemic I decided I wanted to support my favorites as much as I can. During one of their amazing happy hours one I had the idea to take their Friday night wine and cheese and make it a private event for my friends and. Justin (our favorite server), set us up with the Manager Angela Moore (who was AMAZING) right there on the spot to arrange. The process was surprisingly easy and required no effort on my part. Angela arranged pizzas of all kinds and a 4 wine tasting of some of the most amazing Italian wines and was extremely knowledgeable of all detail. What a great memorable experience. I came for Saturday brunch with a large group of friends around 9 am, and we were seated immediately. The menu is relatively extensive and covers a variety of (open-face) egg sandwiches, pizzas, and other options. I fully enjoyed my avocado toast (ft. over easy eggs, bacon, and green harissa). All the ingredients were well prepared, and the harissa adds a perfect punch of flavor for this otherwise-tame assembly. My friends ordered a bunch of other things (smoked salmon toast, pizza, etc.) and everyone seemed pleased with their food. Arrived at the hostess station and quoted a wait of 30-45 minutes to dine inside but then offered the option for the patio or the bar with no wait. Being Houston, muggy, we opted for the bar, but our lovely hostess didn't tell us no seating was available. We return to the hostess and let her know we would like to sit outside, but she tells us to wait a moment. While waiting, I see her show the couple behind us to the patio, and see our table given away. Away from her post, we were fortunate to be attended on by the man in plaid who was successful in seating us. I really like the atmosphere of W+M but it is quite loud, so you can barely hear the person in front of you, which also makes ordering a bit difficult. You know what else makes it hard to order, your waiter not showing up to order, and having to flag another waiter. Oh, but props to W+M on their cute menus, I love the scantron theme as well as the color codedness of the drinks. Pink=cocktail Tan=beer White=wine Bread: Originally ordered the panko crusted trotter terrine, but was informed that they were out, we asked for the menu and after about 10 minutes of waiting yet again, flagged down the man in plaid who took our order for the foie+duck bacon+tomato date jam. The foie was in pâté form, unseared but still melted yummy on the tongue and complimented the tomato jam and buttery slices of bread. The duck bacon was different as you can tell they probably cured it in house, this bacon isn't as fatty as your pork bacon but added a nice salt element to the dish. Small Plates: The sesame haystack onions+ harissa ketchup is a MUST, perfectly battered and fried piece of onions (think fancy onion rings) paired with fancy ketchup, but harissa is more red peppers and spice based instead of tomato. The ribeye meatballs were also good, but as others mentioned needed more sauce...harissa to the rescue! Pizza: Yearning for veggies we opted for the roasted carrot pizza which is a wood fired oven baked "thinner" crust pizza. The dough had a nice chew to it and as Daniel L. mentioned, with soft doughy zones. The flavor profile is quite different, as the cheddar had a more distinct flavor compared to traditional milder mozzarella. The carrots were very sweet, which was surprising and the dukka brought the whole dish together. Doughknots, this was definitely delicious, how can you go wrong with warm perfectly fried balls of dough? Think of this as a hybrid donut beignet covered in powered sugar and honey as honestly I couldn't taste the cardamom. However, the table next to us got a mouthful and couldn't finish it, so maybe some inconsistency here? Overall, I would come back for the food, especially for brunch as I look forward to trying the doughnuts & fried chicken. However, I would opt for to-go as service was quite poor, definitely dampening the dining experience, and you know the saying, bad service ruins good food. read more

First impressions weren't great, but I'm now a fan. The first time we went to Weights + Measures, the service was awful. I gave them another chance and I am glad that I did! I've been here for weekend brunch twice now and both times were very good. Service has been good. Food has been very good. The brunch special has been the pulled pork chilaquiles and I got it the last two times. It's really rich but really delicious. Layers for tortilla chips with beans, pork and a fried egg on top. It's really delicious and something I would get and/or share with friends when I go. The fried egg with bacon and cheese on toast is also an excellent choice. For dessert: the doughknots are great. The remind me of a sopapilla meets doughnut. The presentation here is great. You eat with your eyes and your taste buds. Skip the bakery in the lobby. I know they are affiliated, but the baked goods are really meh. The line can be kind of long. Be ready to wait as they don't take reservations. read more

I tried a chocolate frosted cake donut for $1.75 and it was super greasy! The flavor was lacking. We went in the restaurant and had a sausage pizza for $13. It is enough for two people to split. It had little toppings on it and super thin crust. We were going to order the doughknots, but decided against it since the other items we had were no impressive. They deliver the check in an old tape cassette holder which is a creative idea. The kitchen is open and you can watch them make the food. Each visit to Weights + Measures has been absolutely perfect. The service, food, drinks, and atmosphere were wonderful and could not have been improved. I particularly enjoy sitting at the bar. They have speciality gin and tonics that are always amazing. The most recent one I tried had butterfly tea (or something?) in it and it was fantastic. The best cocktail I've had in a while. It was also beautiful! The Spanish Octopus is a must! It is easily shared as an appetizer or could serve as a smaller entree for one. The pizza and pasta are also delicious. It is a quaint restaurant in Midtown, in a repurposed 1950's warehouse. The items on the menu seemed pretty good: nothing spectacular, but good. I especially like the chips in an alfredo-like sauce with blue cheese. The garlic string beans really tickled the taste buds. Our entree, the BRAISED SHORT RIB, was okay, but it needed more of the horseradish dijon sauce...otherwise, it was rather bland. The service, however, was lacking. Our server seemed to be more preoccupied with talking with other members of the staff than taking care of her customers. The irony is that there weren't that many patrons there at the time. We waited a lot to be served. They need to pay attention to things like this, or they will start losing business. read more

Went for brunch. Tried the gingerbread latte and unfortunately the flavor was really chemical-y - I'm not sure if it was just artificial or an overwhelming amount of ginger. My mimosa was good. Then came the food - I chose the fried chicken and French toast. The fried chicken really lacked seasoning / flavor, but the French toast was solid. My wife was ok with her pork belly and banana bread. The staff seem a bit stiff, wasn't a very well oiled or welcoming experience, but it wasn't a cold or rude experience. I just ate here with my grandma who is a vegetarian. We had plenty of options to pick from. W+M is a fresh Italian restaurant with modern tales on classics. I had the squash something toast, the porcini mushroom fettuccine, the caramel ice cream, and a grape vinegar salad (sorry for not remembering the exact names). I thought our waitress, Anna, was lovely and attentive. When we hated the porcini mushroom pasta, Anna was very understanding and brought the manager over to apologize and comp'd our pasta for the bad experience. I love that about W+M - that is, the service was spot on. My water was never empty. The other reviewers who had bad service must have just come on the wrong night since we had excellent staff supporting our meal. I found a lot of our dishes to be trying really hard. I think that is just bad luck with ordering. I will be back to try more meat-centric items on the menu since I had a great time. read more

It was a beautiful Sunday morning - enough of a reason for this night owl to wake up early for brunch. Parking is a pain for any restaurant in Midtown. For a 5000 square foot space, the parking lot is relatively small. There's plenty of street parking around the restaurant. So, we were good. Also, definitely make reservations for this place because it gets full on weekends. A couple of my friends came slightly late. But, W+M can only hold your reservation for 15 minutes, then they'll just seat you wherever they find space. I love the modern industrial design of this place. The first thing you notice coming in is the lovely bakery attached to the restaurant. The smell of pastries and coffee woke up my senses. I did buy some pastries to take home with me, such as the blueberry danish, chocolate croissant, and the pecan roll. The chocolate croissant was the tastiest of the three. Once everyone in our group arrived, we were seated at a spot in the restaurant where we could see the open kitchen. Our waitress was good, and was attentive to our needs. For starters, we ordered some flat whites and a cafe mocha. I'm a coffee lover, and I didn't think that my flat white was strong enough for me. My friend who ordered the same agreed with me. Our other friend doesn't really drink coffee. But, she enjoyed her mocha. I have to say I feel slightly jipped because our flat whites were smaller than the mocha (see photo). I did also order the popular cardamom doughnuts for our group. None of us found this very impressive. I was trying to taste the cardamom, but it really just tasted like a honey-glazed doughnut. For the entrees, we ordered the sausage pizza with purple onions and basil, avocado toast, and breakfast pizza. My friend and I loved the sausage pizza. Good flavor, texture, and portion size. The avocado toast was just ok. The green sauce wasn't fantastic, and the portion was small. The plate was even larger than the entree of avocado toast itself. Our other friends liked their breakfast pizza. But, they were too full to finish it. I wouldn't recommend the avocado toast which was extremely overpriced for how it tasted ($16, $19 with tip included) and my friend who ordered the French toast said the bread was overdone as you can see in the picture.
