I just cancelled Webpass after nine years. They increased their prices from $550 in 2019 to $700 in 2021, but they say I have Gigabit speeds which I don't need and don't want to pay for. Those are continuing customer prices, the new customer price is even worse. Webpass doesn't give you speed tiers like most providers, it's all or nothing. I'm now paying about half the price. I was under the impression that the 100 Mbps speed limitation was on my end - but my new ISP gives me faster speeds with the exact same wiring! So Webpass simply didn't bother to actually upgrade my speeds on their end, or investigate after I opened a support ticket. So they wanted me to pay for more speed that they didn't actually allow me to use. I'm glad I switched. I can't complain about reliability - I don't remember more than a few times (3-4) I've not had an internet connection over the nine years. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but webpass is horrible. I'm pretty sure they get all these 5 star reviews is because of the quick and easy installation. Everyone gets excited when they see the speeds that the installers show on speedtest.com when connected to the Ethernet port, but wait till you see the speeds connected to the router. They are horrible because the advertised speeds only apply when you connect your computer to the Ethernet port. But when you use your router, the speeds drop significantly. I got the recommended ac routers and purchased a $200 one (netgear nighthawk ac1900). I was hoping I would get the advertised 500 mbs speeds once I purchased it. BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! The connection KEPT DROPPING, it became very frustrating and tech support didn't know what the problem was and never resolved the ticket. I switched my router to the apple airport extreme (another $200 router), which also had the same issue of disconnecting. After tweaking the router a but, I found out it was a firewall issue, (something tech support should be knowledgeable of). The connection issues were fixed, but the speeds were very sub par. Within close range to the router I get about 30mbs, inside my room upstairs i get about 3mbs. I also enabled IPv6 on the router which made no difference.There are only 2 people in my home that use the internet for basic web browsing and streaming. If more than one person starts to use the internet, watching a simple youtube video starts to freeze and buffer very slowly. The speeds fluctuate and i can never get a consistent speed.I go to school in San Jose and I have Comcast over there and consistently get about 180 mbs. Had Webpass in my apartment building for 3+ years and had a wonderful experience! Shenandoah (really sociable and friendly guy) stopped by my unit for the initial setup, which was quick and painless. I never had to touch anything or request service ever again. I had no major outages or problems of any sort. I had to switch to a new provider because my new apartment building doesn't support Webpass, but I would 100% try it again if given the opportunity. So I have come to accept that my WebPass connection is not going to get a whole lot better than about 35Mbps download. As of late (last 4 or 5 days) I have been getting an abysmal 2 to 5Mbps download and 5 to 15Mbps upload. The latency is pretty shoddy as well. Playing Battlefield 4 on a local server (San Jose) I am seeing a ping of about 250ms where I would normally be at 5 to 10ms. For those wondering, I am not doing anything stupid on my end to mess things up. I am a network engineer and systems administrator by trade and am exercising all of the best practices that I employ with my work. These tests are being done in a collision domain where I am the only user and over cat6 ethernet. My router has well beyond the capacity to handle the full 100Mbps if I were to actually receive such speeds. Webpass, I would love to receive somewhat close to what y'all advertise on your site and after doing so will gladly remove or update my reviews. Webpass could not have come at a better time. Things had turned from bitter to downright ugly with my lady in red. I met this lady in red during my college years. She seduced me with her charms, cleverness, care-free attitude and seemingly easy-going persona. Everything was going great. She would let me watch pretty much whatever I wanted on TV and didn't mind the time I spent on the internet. But after about 6 months, things suddenly seemed to be changing. Instead of the low-cost dates I had grown accustomed too, out of nowhere she began to demand more of me. My care-free, low-maintenance lady in red was starting to become a big pain in the @$$. I looked at my monthly billing statement, and I was now spending about 3 times what I was used to spending on her. I had had enough. On the phone I voiced my unhappiness and at one point began discussing a break-up, but she insisted things would change. I decided to give her a chance to work it out, so we tried again. For awhile my lady in red had seemed to have returned to her former self. Things were going well to say the least for about a year, but then just like the previous time, her lust for my money seemed to be back! I had enough of this yo-yo relationship and like the previous time, I called to end things. How persistent she was! She had me talk to at least three different people trying to convince me to stay but my heart was somewhere else. Somewhere that advertised download speeds of 100 mbps at a fraction of what she was costing me during our tumultuous time together. After we separated she sent me off with one last gem: A $700 bill for some of her electronic belongings she had left behind. I promptly returned these items to her home and that was the end of her. At my wife's condo in SOMA we've seen mail flyers about the service but thought wrongly our former provider AT&T was sufficient. Webpass' technician, Victor Tam, was prompt, friendly and had smokin' fast internet installed in about 10 minutes. I had Google Webpass for one year. It was fine, no issues. I was sent an email to renew, which I did by logging in and paying the amount requested for one year. I kept getting renewal notices after this, and when I asked them to stop sending me the notices, they said I owed another 67 dollars! I contacted customer service several times and Jose Lopez was basically giving me the middle finger each time. I tried calling but never got through, and they never callled me back even though I left my number in their call back system. Is this what you want from your internet provider? My installer, Tim, was actually early on my install time today, that's a first after dealing with Comcast's lack of service for years. Evidently, I was the first in my building to get webpass installed. He traced my network line back to where the switch is installed in my garage area, and had me up in running in about 20 minutes, so easy. He even took his shoes off before walking on my carpet. Connection is rock solid so far. Going to give it a few more days before I call Comcast to tell them the great news. Just did a couple of speedtests, getting a solid 100Mbps up and down, incredible speed for the cost. My ping in L4d2 has gone from 100ms to 68ms on a server I frequent. Got an appointment right away, called Comcast to cancel at the end of our billing period (they tried to give us a retention discount, we said, "Nope, not unless you become 10x faster"), and waited for the Big Day. Technician arrived 2 minutes early, and he got to work changing our phone line into a dual phone+ethernet. We don't use the phone line, but he did that just in case. Took all of 10 minutes, he went to the laundry room to flip a switch, and came back to test the speed. On his speedtest he got 94 Mbps up & down. I plugged in my wifi router (ASUS RT-N56U) and got 9 Mbps up & down. We plugged my computer straight into the ethernet jack on the wall, bypassing the router, and I got 94 Mbps up & down too. We were all baffled, and the technician recommended we get a new router. After he left, with barely one foot out the door, I had already logged on to Webpass and paid the $500 yearly plan with my Chase Ink card for 5% cashback. :D Then I felt like something was wrong with the router...so I updated the firmware from ASUS's website. BOOM! Instantly 94 Mbps up & down!! Count me one happy customer. That took all of 20 minutes this morning, and then I told EVERYONE I could think of that lives in an apartment building to check if their building qualifies. Been a webpass customer since 2014. Got a notice that the price was increasing, tried to save money by switching to the yearly plan which stated in the email would be $700. I had already paid for the month prior so was waiting until my new bill to switch. Get my new bill and tried to make the switch to yearly but now it's $750 for the year. Update, May 2019: A new fiber provider lit our building. Emailed Webpass support and they upgraded our 250mbps service to Gig for no extra charge! I consistently get around 900mbps symmetrical over ethernet. Still, probably once per month there is downtime for 10min or so. But for the speed and price, can't complain. read more

Google Webpass offers OK speeds if you're lucky enough to live in a building where one of their points is located. Speeds average about 350mbps down and about 300mpbs up. I had them in Miami FL for about 4 months. wi-fi goes down every week due to thunderstorms, or if the building loses power. I finally bit the bullet and did a self-install with Xfinity because Webpass went down on Sunday, and after calling customer service, couldn't get a technician to come until Thursday. This was after being on the phone for about 2 hours going back and forth with multiple tests and resets to see what the problem may be. Something to do with the line from their point on the roof down to my condo. If you work from home, you know it's a killer to be without internet for more than 24 hours. My building is already wired for Xfinity, and after plugging in the modem, I had internet in less than 20 minutes. Xfinity is about $15 more, but don't have to depend on the slow, and inefficient, tech support from Webpass. Xfinity (Comcast) usually sends a technician within 24 hours if you live in Miami. If you live in Los Angeles, Time-Warner/Spectrum can take as much as 48 hours. I know, I had them for years. So, if you don't care about being without internet when there is a problem, get Webpass. Cheaper than the competition, but you now know why. If you need a technician to come to you, you'll wait 36+ hours. If you have a home office or running your business from home, spend more for peace of mind and go with Xfinity, or AT&T if they offer wired service. By the way, remember that "free wifi point" that you get with a new Webpass account? You have to return it when you cancel service, or your credit card will be charged $100. read more

Updating my review because of the horrific customer service and overall reliability of the internet service provided....At first, Webpass may seem like a great idea because of the great speeds they advertise and the fact that this place is "backed" by google. I'm updating my review from a 5 star to a 1 star for the following reasons: 1. Consistent outages. A few times a month...I've lost count. 2. Long and unacceptable resolution times - anywhere from several hours to days. 3. Fast speeds at first....but as previous reviews suggest, speeds dramatically decline. I signed up for Webpass this past Saturday, after over 15 years with Comcast. The good news is, the wifi seems to be faster and stronger, at a good monthly rate. The very dissapointing part of this is the poor customer service. Victor the sales rep, arrived right on time on Saturday. However, I was not told that i needed to first buy a new router. Therefore, the installation was 100% left to the customer, he did nothing but drop off a wire. Needless to say, I had many issues making the wifi change, as I am a customer, not an employee of Webpass. I was told at the appointment to "buy a router, and just plug it in, that's all. If there is an issue, i am available anytime." Well, it took over 2 hours, as I needed a friend to set it up as the instructions did not work, and Victor would not come by to assist, as promised. he said he was busy, and I should call customer service. In reading other YELP reviews, it seems consistent that Webpass does not take serious the importance of customer experience. Knowing how most everyone loathes Comcast, it is an opportunity for them to shine as they have a good product. Adjust your priorities, Webpass....service should always come first.. read more

TL;DR: Don't get Webpass if you want to have any reasonable level of consistent service or any kind of customer support whatsoever. This company is the worst ISP I have ever had. Customer service has been really really inconsistent and apparently their internal communication is terrible. Unfortunately, it seems that the intention of the company is to ignore the continued issues. My apartment has had outages of 4+ hours each of the last two weeks. When I made a support ticket the first time, I got a call back, an explanation and an estimate for restoration. Unfortunately the second time, I sent a ticket, I got an email 2 hours later asking for my router information and then nothing for 2 more hours, ignoring my requests for a restoration estimate. When I called, no one answered and I was sent to voicemail. When I finally got someone on the phone, they said that there was an issue unique to my unit and someone would need to come out, but they weren't available until the next morning. When the service tech came out to see me, he looked at the building's wiring and discovered that someone had altered the incoming Webpass service so much that he couldn't service my building, explaining that I wasn't really on their equipment anymore. He left with the Internet still not working properly, explaining this would have to be addressed and someone would be following up with the building. A few hours later, my support ticket was closed, with the message saying everything should be working properly. I wrote three messages explaining that the on-site tech had not actually fixed the problem and had said that it would need to be addressed at the building level. That was 2 days ago and I have received no response. I think I have finally fixed it through my building. But Webpass itself seems uninterested in actually making sure that their service is working properly. I work from home and this service has already caused me to miss deadlines -- any continued problems and I'll be switching to another provider. Update: Customer service took a month to respond to my last question about the issues with my building. That was about a week ago, then yesterday another mid-day outage of several hours. When I talked to customer service, I was told the outages don't usually last that long. Webpass employees keep extolling how wonderful their service is, and maybe it was at one point, but it doesn't seem to be taking a serious effort to address its very real problems at this point. I'll be shopping around. Update 12/9/17: Another hours-long outage while I was on deadline. Tech support had me on hold for 10 minutes, then went to voicemail. No one called me back. Customer service just kept referring me to tech support, who sent me an email, said they would update me when they had techs working on it (90 minutes after the outage started, at 4PM, they were driving over from San Francisco) and never followed up. I was able to get an appointment 3 days after my phone call. I had a great experience with my technicians, Victor Tam and Randy. They were able to rewire the way I wanted in about half an hour, and even asked if they should take their shoes off on the carpet. I recently switched over from the nightmare that we all know of as Comcast. My technicians Randy and Adam helped me set up Webpass and I could not be more pleased. They showed up on time and within minutes my new blazing fast internet was up and running. They were also super funny and kept me entertained throughout the whole setup. With Webpass there are no bulky modem rentals or anything to return- you can use any router. I'm using an AirPort Extreme and it works like a charm. Although I never got the 100mbs upload and download speeds they advertised, my internet worked without an issue for 8 months and then they performed an "update" and ever since then my internet service will drop almost daily. I have been emailing and speaking with technicians for the past few months to try and resolve this issue but they just claim their is no issue and that there service is working. They were not able to provide any solutions as to why after their system update our wifi would require to be reset almost daily. It has been frustrating dealing with the sub par service and even more frustrating dealing with a customer support team who does not care about their customers. There are more reliable internet providers out there and certainly other providers with better customer service. read more

Updating my review because of a terrible experience with a customer service representative named Tasha (spelling ?). My service was disconnected because I had a past due balance that was I was unaware of. I changed my email address, and Webpass failed to update the information. This morning, they sent someone to physically disconnect my service. After paying the balance, I have to make an appointment for my service to be reconnected. The first available appointment is in three days, and I will not have connectivity during this time. I simply asked the customer service representative why I did not receive a courtesy call. I asked her if she could see if a technician already had an appointment in my building. She was condescending and uncooperative. To make things worse, she hung up on me twice. Not only was he ahead of schedule (and let me know via text!) he was flexible with timing as I wasn't able to get out of a meeting until much later (our originally scheduled time).
