Last night was our second visit to Webb's custom kitchen. Our first visit had some hiccups, but was taken care of by the manager. Our Last visit my husband sent a steak back as it was undercooked for him and they forgot his meal and would say it will be up soon. So he never really got to eat anything but the appetizer. They did send him a meal home and did not charge us for his dinner. So last night when we went back, we were giving them a second shot, as we honestly love the vibe of this restaurant. This time we were sitting upstairs and I highly recommend sitting up there. It gives you a nice view of the projector and the screen that shows the movies. We ordered two appetizers four steaks with sides and four desserts as well as two rounds of drinks from the bar. My girlfriend's well done fillet, her husband's ribeye was a good medium, my ribeye was a good medium rare and so was my husband's ribeye. However, he did not order his medium rare he ordered it medium well. The steaks were cooled to the touch and the brie butter that we got on top of it wasn't even melting at all. This time instead of sending it back, we just ate what we could. The waitress was kind. We were kind to her. We paid our tab, but I don't think we'll come back. At $200 per couple, You expect your food to be the way that you want it. I understand having steaks cooked multiple ways for the same table isn't easy for the kitchen, but even if it was cooked to a more medium temperature it would've probably been more acceptable. So once we got home, he fired up the grill and he put his medium rare steak on it so he could actually finish it. I would just recommend that staff pay a little bit more attention to the details. read more

What a fantastic place to spend an anniversary dinner! Our server, Amy, was so kind and her suggestions were spot on every time. The building itself is beautiful and sparked a lot of fun moments. The food, however, was the star of the show. My wife and I agreed it was one of the best meals, if not the best, we've had in years. The spaghetti squash and garden salad were lovely and so fresh. My wife cannot stop raving about the sea bass, though. Seafood so fresh it tastes like back home on the coast is hard to find so far inland- but WCK knocked it out of the park. We finished off with the crème brûlée and that was so good we had to get two, because we didn't want to share. You can't beat this place for ambiance, history, service, and especially food. In downtown Gastonia in one of the original theatre's, is now a beautiful upscale restaurant. The service we had was impeccable and started with our server shaking our hand and introducing himself, the southern charm was real! To start, we ordered cheesy bread with a four cheese mixture,minced garlic, onion and herbs. Probably one of the best bread apps I've ever had. The angry lobster which was fried and lightly breaded lobster tails, were also delicious and a new way for me to eat lobster. The U10 scallops with lemon garlic risotto was were topped with mango garlic salsa. The salsa had a little too much acidity and volume but the scallops were cooked perfectly. Looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate our anniversary we read some restaurant reviews. Intrigued by the idea of dining in an old theatre we settled on Webb's Custom Kitchen. It was a Friday, and prom night to boot, so there were energetic patrons, and an equally energetic staff. We were seated in the balcony, and were glad for that, since it was a great viewing area. Kim, our server, was outstanding in all aspects. She had a friendly demeanor, and was attentive to our needs throughout the evening. We could tell Kim wanted to ensure we had an extraordinary celebration, and she delivered. The entire team really set the tone for the evening, providing excellent service, and always with a smile. With "The Thin Man" playing on the big screen, we perused the menu and decided on the Webb Street School Mixed Green Salad and Strawberry Fields Salad for starters. Both salads were generous and appetizing. The Strawberry Fields salad will be my go to choice on future visits. For the main course we both chose the Center Cut Filet Mignon with the fully loaded bake potato for the side. We've dined at Morton's Steakhouse and Smith & Wollensky in the past, and we both agreed that the Center Cut Filet Mignon was one of the best tasting steaks we've ever had. If you're into cocktails I highly recommend The Bulleit. The demerara syrup and expressed orange peel added a little something extra to the taste of the Bulleitt whiskey and bitters. Dessert? We split the Cranberry Cheesecake...scrumptious. Towards the end of the evening they even had a special way to commemorate our anniversary. I don't want to spoil the surprise, but I will say it wasn't singing a song or making a spectacle of the guests. We definitely will be returning to Webb's Custom Kitchen. I was about to start my evening drive to Greenville, SC on a rainy night and I thought about breaking up the trip to avoid traffic so I Yelped "dinner" , "Gastonia" and number 1 not far off the highway was We. Custom Kitchen. I have 3 rules when Yelping; stay in too 10 for location, check sample size (1.1K reviews), check newest Elite reviews. Check all 3 and headed to WCK. It's located in the historic district of Gastonia in a renovated building around the corner from Franklin Street I walked in and noticed people were already waiting for tables and it was just after 7 o'clock. I spotted a bar seat in the corner between two sets of couples. No wait, good start. A couple to my right on the adjacent side of the bar we're very friendly and I ended up speaking with them during my entire meal. They provided me the history of the building. WCK is located. They were both archaeologists taught me many things about the history of North Carolina and about their travels in Germany performing cultural resource surveys. They were a local couple and seemed to know every other person in the restaurant. They made several food suggestions one of which was the southern meatloaf entrée. And on a cold rainy night in February, that one sounded most appealing. The meatloaf and mash potatoes tasted great and the company and dinner conversation were even better! I will definitely keep Webb Custom Kitchen on my radar when I am passing through Gastonia and I would recommend to anyone else do not overlook this gem! Cheers! read more

We had such a good time! The service was so detailed, on top of things, and just a general delight. We had the cheese toast, I had a filet, mash, and asparagus with my husband having the short rib. All around just absolutely delicious. My raspberry 'Rita with a straw was beautiful and refreshing. But the space! Just really amazing and unique. I always like to start with the good. These were the damn best fried green tomatoes I've ever had in my life. Fried perfectly, amazing sauce, and corn salsa was nice twist. Now the eh, I ordered the tenderloins medium and they arrived very rare. The potatoes cakes underneath were burnt also. After a moment the server came back and was able to have the kitchen heat up the steak to "medium" which then was more like medium well but I was hungry so I didn't complain. I would also like to have more than 2 cold pieces of asparagus on top of warmish meat. I will definitely be back for double order of the fried green tomatoes and possibly another dish. Here for a convention and saw this on yelp as a top place to go. Drove down from Charlotte about a 30 minutes drive. Our server Brittany is amazing and friendly, she gave us the history of the restaurantie. She was such a wonderful person, she may the atmosphere just perfect .We had the angry lobster and the cheesy bread. our meal arrived quickly. Wasn't invited by close friends to try this restaurant for the first time I will have to say the experience was mesmerizing and the view was very beautiful as is an old movie theater that they converted into a restaurant. If you ever get a chance, make sure that you sit in the balcony so that you. Overlook the whole restaurant and watch the silent movies that they have projected on the screen above. The food was amazing. We tried the meatballs the lobster tails and I got the bone in ribeye with a side of macaroni and cheese. Everything was seasoned to perfection and well deserved. Our waiter Angela was very knowledgeable about everything from the restaurant history to the menu itself so I will give her props as she's been there for about six years as she mentioned. Webb Custom Kitchen is a hidden gem and a must visit. The wait can be long, so I recommend a reservation. If not, there are a few local bars to check out in the area as you wait for a table. The food was yummy!! Our meal took an unordinary time to come out but our waitress checked on it and apologized. I would definitely come back here for dinner and/or drinks. What a charming place! It's absolutely worth a stop if you are in the area. I dropped in for a late lunch or early dinner while in town. I chose a seat at the bar and was captivated by the aesthetics and the atmosphere. The staff was welcoming, and the food was delightful! I really enjoyed the flash-fried lobster tails. The truffle fries were pretty good as well. The cocktail was okay. Nevertheless, the ambiance and the apparent history alone makes it a must-visit. One of my absolutely favorite restaurants. The food is always incredible. They are known for their steaks and having a great char on them. Service has always been good and I've never had an issue. I actually enjoy sitting at the bar before heading to the table because the bar staff is nice and friendly. I must suggest the angry lobster for appetizer. It is my favorite! They also do scones for brunch where you get a variety if three and the options change from day to day. Don't leave without grabbing cheesecake or a cheesecake to-go. I visited this location with a work colleague. While the setting was a little romantic for what was essentially a business dinner, the ambiance is fantastic. I had the Slow Braised Short Rib of Beef and collard greens. The beef was tender and flavorful and the collard greens perfectly paired with it. The service too was impeccable. read more

The atmosphere of the place as it's an old movie theater turned into a restaurant was so vibey and cool! we walked in and sat at the bar, service was not super amazing. a girl saw us, then walked off. came back about 5-10 min later and gave us menus. we tried to order a drink and she said one second and then didn't come back for 30 min. we grabbed ahold of a diff bartender, he felt terrible and he made up for it! we were able to get all food and drinks in and he checked in on us multiple times. Nowwww... MY FAV PART... the food we started off with the duck shoots ans they were really good (the sweet chili sauce was my fav; it comes w 3 sauces). for my main meal, i got the chilean sea bass and I can't even stress this enough but it was PHENOMENAL. it melted in my mouth, full of flavor, and one of the best fish i've ever had! Went for brunch with friends. The cocktail was DELISH - it featured Muddy Water rum which was a plus. The short rib omelet was HUGE / it came with a sweet potato hash which was tasty! The only negative was the basket of "scones" - peach, sesame and plain - those flat oily things are NOT scones. I took the leftovers to go but I won't eat them! The cheesy bread appetizer was perfect. The spicy tuna dinner was done just right - and the portion was unusually large for tuna tartare. The short ribs with mash were the perfect comfort food. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would and here's why: We've been to this spot before, but never sat in the balcony. Sitting in the balcony definitely enhanced the experience. It was so fun watching the kitchen in action. I started with a French pear martini and my husband had an old-fashioned. That was probably the best martini I've had in a while. We started with the angry lobster and a wedge salad. The angry lobster was a little less angry this time, so it was much more enjoyable. My husband enjoyed the short ribs and potatoes, and added a side of the creamed spinach. The description our server game of the scallops special had me hooked. Four perfectly cooked Scallops came on top of a spinach risotto. Here is the only reason I cannot leave a five star review: risotto was a little too salty. We ended with a three or four layer, massive chocolate cake, which topped the evening off perfectly. Lainee, our server, took great care of us, too! read more
