If I had to rank the steaks solo - 5 stars. They were amazing. Everything else? Well, it all fell short. Came to celebrate my husband's birthday, and chose Old Stone because it had a kid's menu and we want a "family friendly fancy" environment. Our server was just, eh. In a way he seemed bothered to have a table. Chalked it up as maybe a bad night, but it didn't enhance our experience. We ordered the pork belly appetizer, and the pork belly itself was burnt and the peaches were mushy - almost baby food texture. A miss for us. The steaks, again, amazing, perfectly cooked - even my daughter's steak tips. The sides however, another miss. The kids fries were mushy, and tasted like they had been sitting out a while. My husband's mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant/from a box and lacked the bright white color or fluffy texture. My wedge salad was drenched in dressing, and the dressing itself was runny. It certainly wasn't what I anticipated for a steakhouse wedge. It seemed like a rushed after thought. The other part that was a letdown - every single plate we were handed was broken. Every single one. When you're paying steakhouse prices, I'd like to see presentable plates. One, sure I could see it slipped by, but every one? That's just laziness on replacing them in my opinion. Michelle & I had toured the big town of Belmont and decided on here for an early Wednesday dinner at 5p. Ashley was our server and she was great! We each had the Wedge salad and I added the mahi mahi. Michelle had the wedge salad also and the mahi mahi entree! She raved about it! I liked the menu and the ambience of the place, it felt very comfortable though it was just a little on the dark side. There is no parking garage, only street parking which is very very dangerous on MAIN street! Not a great option the parallel park either. Old Stone Steakhouse is a great choice in the bustling downtown of Belmont. Be careful not to walk right past the door when you arrive! Old Stone Steakhouse has big menu with several delectable options. Our group started dinner with the fried pickle chips and skillet dinner rolls. Both were great. The pickle chips were not overly breaded, so the flavor was primarily the tangy pickle. The garlic butter made the warm rolls even more delicious. At our table, the ribeye with mashed potatoes, the New York strip with a baked potato, and the southern-style chopped steak with mashed potatoes were ordered. Everyone was extremely pleased with the portion, taste and quality of the meat. We ordered a vanilla creme brulee for dessert, and that was the star of the meal! I had a gift card, so thought I'd give lunch a try. To start off with, let me say the service was awesome!!! The food... not so much. We both ordered the cheeseburger medium. Mine was mid-well and his was mid-rare. Nothing spectacular, just a meh burger. The tomatoes were over ripe, the lettuce was very white in color, and little to no condiments or flavor present. The bun was tough and dry on both burgers. We both ordered the potato salad, but they only had 1 serving available, which led me to believe it was leftover from the day before. I let my companion have it, which he claimed was too cold and flavorless. I got the steak fries, which did not look in-house made, I'm assuming frozen. Some were hard, some were undercooked, dusted with some kind of seasoning but overall unimpressive as was the burger. This was not my first trip here, my last one was not impressive either. Unless I receive another gift card or have to go with a group, I don't see another visit to Old Stone in my future. Too many other places to go and get good food compared to the mediocre food served here. If it wasn't for the service, the rating would have been MUCH lower. read more

We went on a week day and basically had the restaurant to ourselves. There was probably 1 other couple there. The restaurant was neat and clean and quiet. We had the steak Diane and a ribeye. They were both cooked perfectly. The steak Diane usually has a thicker sauce, but this one was thin and it was okay. I do wish some of the family sized sides came individually. I had not been to Old Stone for a couple years, but relying on our previous good experience, we invited out of town guest to join us there. I was very disappointed by this second visit. The young server was friendly and seemed to want to do a good job, but the food was far from great. My upgraded wedge salad was a large slimy pile of blue cheese and I guess balsamic vinegar, I am not sure, but it was way too much topping. I understood why the chef put so much topping on it when I dug out the salad and found it to be brown lettuce that shouldn't have been served. I couldn't eat it. When I didn't eat it and explained why to the server, she apologized, but tried to charge me for it anyway when the bill came. I don't understand this type of service. The steak we ordered wasn't cooked as our guests requested either, but tasted ok. I suggest management reevaluate their processes and make some improvements. I wish I could recommend Old Stone, but I can't. Disappointed. read more

Last week during Queens Feast/Restaurant week we decided to give Old Stone a try. The restaurant itself is in quaint Belmont and the exterior and interior is very nice. When we walked in there wasn't anyone at the host desk, when the male host arrived he was abrupt and maybe not rude, but was definitely not welcoming and it didn't set the tone well for the meal. Our server was ok, but if you are in a service role and work for tips, I think you should be pretty dang outgoing and friendly, he was not. Also, we kept having to ask for refills, when you are dining at a nicer restaurant and your glass is half empty, just refill it and don't make the customer wait until it is dry and asking for more tea. We ordered from the Queens Feast menu, which I would think the restaurant would consider their best and tastier food. We did add an order of the dinner bread, it has parm on top and I think they should stop adding the parm. The bread was killer by itself! The parm didn't really melt well or adhere to the rolls and was just not great/greasy. 86 the parm and it will be better! We had a crab cake and the goat cheese appetizer. The crab cake was flavorful and pretty good, the goat cheese was very lacking. It needed some nuts and a dried fruit with it and honey or something like that. It was just goat cheese and pita basically, very one dimensional and not great. The meal came with salads and we tried a Cesar and wedge, Cesar was good and the wedge was ok, but the dressing on the wedge was like straight buttermilk. For our main dish I had a filet with baked potato and it was quite good. My wife had the chicken with an Asiago sauce and that was the toughest most overcooked chicken we have probably ever had in a nicer restaurant. That chicken had been cooked way way way too long! Overall the meal was lacking and this restaurant does not warrant another visit. When your meal is well over $100 you expect a little refinement, good service, and tasty ingredients. They didn't deliver. To those about to dine, don't waste your time. Skip it. You can get a steak at a chain restaurant just as good and probably cheaper. Ordered the 14 oz strip steak. A least 25% was inedible gristle. The flavor was good - prepared medium with standard seasoning. Also had the shrimp cocktail appetizer. Eight shrimp were small to medium size, boiled, chilled, peeled and deveined with decent flavor. Salad was very good house wedge with bleu cheese dressing. This was our first time going here and it was such a great experience! Our server was very knowledgeable about all the menu items and she was very attentive! There were so many apps that I wanted to try and they are all very nicely priced. I ordered the Caesar (which was great), my mom ordered the blue cheese wedge salad (sooo good! It had balsamic dressing) and then my father got the goat cheese field salad (also yummy). We ordered a few sides because the portions are large to share which is nice! We got the pasta salad and the cheddar grits! Both were great! I ordered the filet and I highly recommend the horseradish goat cheese topping!! They make their desserts as well and they're amazing. I don't understand some of these negative reviews because our dinner was incredible. Sat at the bar with Justin, who started us off with perfect martinis. Wedge salad was delicious and enjoyed the balsamic twist to the traditional. Filet was expertly cooked medium rare as was the crisp, fresh and jumbo asparagus side dish with red peppers. Au gratin were hands down better than any of the corporate chain steak houses as was the classic chocolate cake. My house wedge salad came out w/the appetizers so only had a bite of the fried pickles and a bacon wrapped scallop. The creamed herb ranch dressing had absolutely no flavor. It was a typical wedge salad. The fried pickles had a light fry which is great. The breading had absolutely no flavor. Completely lacking. The bacon wrapped scallops again no taste from the bacon or the scallop absorbing some bacon nope only the sauce on the plate could be tasted. Had a cheddar burger. Again where was the cheese? It was on the burger but again nada on the flavor. Lotsa mustard though like a lot of what tasted like French's yellow mustard which overpowered the taste of the meat. Speaking of the cook, medium it was not def medium well. So instead of a little pink absolutely none. The best part of the whole meal was the sweet potato fries that were brought to us by accident. They were lightly fried and tasted as you'd expect. The ambiance is a standard pub style. Nothing really special to recommend it. Glad to have gone and checked it off the list. It was also maintained well to still provide a nice ambience of lighting and music. The service was great; prompt and friendly. The food was okay, though. The crab cakes were a good size and placed on top of a white wine reduction sauce (or so it tasted like to me), sprinkled with some lightly cooked cherry tomatoes. I've never been a fan of wine sauces, but the crab cake with a tomato on top wasn't bad. I did appreciate the mildly sweet juice it provided to my bites. We dined in Old Stone 3 times in the past 5 months and enjoyed our first 2 visits there but not the 3rd. So I am giving 3 stars based on 3 visits even though last visit could only be 2 stars. Our waiter seemed pretty distracted from the very beginning. As a result I got the wrong drink and had to send it back. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower bites as appetizer. They were tasty though I would prefer the cauliflower to be cut into smaller chunks (bite size). We waited longer than usual to get our entrees. When they eventually arrived, my salad was not the size I ordered and my husband's prime rib was almost rare (he ordered medium rare). Not sure if our waiter took the order wrong or the kitchen made it wrong. He opted to take the bloody piece home (for further cooking) instead of sending it back. Restaurant business has suffered more from labor shortage and inflation than most other businesses in the past year or 2. As a result, quality has declined noticeably. I probably should cook at home more instead of getting disappointed when dining out. read more
