Well, we were looking for a place near the library to watch the NCAA Women's Basketball game, and decided to visit. Of the ten patrons inside when we arrived, they all seemed to know each other. Thankfully, this didn't sway us one way or the other. We sat near the door, and I asked the bartender to turn on the game, which she did. Turns out the game wasn't on that channel, but I didn't want to disturb her conversation with the locals. Our waitress mentioned she was fairly new. She was attentive but kept forgetting things. I ordered the "must-have" Bessemer City Buzzard on a Stick, which is about half of a chicken breast seasoned and baked on a stick. The chicken wasn't as dry as I expected, but it also lacked flavor, and I had to pay $1 for sweet chili sauce to dip it in (3/5). The corn nuggets were nice and hot, and I enjoyed them (5/5). Note: I saw a couple of references to "redneck" while visiting, and I would characterize this place as a local redneck hangout. read more

The chicken wings are pretty good. I like mine wet, so I had a Whiskey Mill sauce, which was great! The Service was good and the ambience is decent. Sitting is available inside. It is typically loud in this establishment and when you call in an order during the afternoon or evening, you have to speak loud over the phone so they can hear you. I have ordered from them several times, but the wings are pretty pricey, so I don't go that much. However, they do offer wing discounts two days out the week. . This is not a fancy spot, but it's still pretty dang good! Our appetizer was the Whiskey Red wings. Amazing! Simply fried naked and dusted with the housemade dry rub. It was so good, I asked if they sold it! Then I had the pretzel burger and it was amazing! My top pick, though? The strawberry margarita. I ended up having 3! I'm glad I brought my straightedge boyfriend so I had a DD. It's strong and you definitely taste that liquor, but it's delicious! Be forewarned, it is loud in there, but that's only because it's a neighborhood hangout and the folks at the bar give that Cheers of the South vibe. Literally the worst owners ever. I waited 38 minutes for a burger and after waiting that we said screw it and went to Wendy's down the road! Food wasn't even worth the wait the appetizer disappointed us, it's more of a bar scene than anything. This is a neighborhood 'dive bar' or 'biker bar,' but it has been my husband and my local haunt for a very long time. This location of Whiskey Mill is in Gastonia, and the original WM started in Bessemer City, NC. The owner is a great gentleman and visits this location fairly often. The service is amazing, especially the bartenders. Everyone is super friendly. They really pay close attention to their customers. My husband and I usually sit at the bar and the bartenders are just on it. There's people drinking right and left and they sling drinks like crazy and they rarely get behind. Their food is also magnificent! They have a wonderful fried bologna sandwich that is true South all the way! Get it with chili, whiskey slaw, onions, and mustard (we call it all the way). That bologna is so fresh and it is at least three or four times the thickness of a normal slice of bologna. Another sandwich that I absolutely adore is their Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The bread is just right; it's a softer kind of hoagie roll and that steak is fresh and seasoned to perfection with grilled onions and peppers. Their pulled pork sandwich is also stellar as are their regular wings, boneless wings, southwestern egg rolls, and potstickers. The sandwiches come à la carte so you get to pick your side. They also have really delicious dinner plates; my husband loves their chop steak. When I'm not in the mood for a big dinner, I order their house salad with buffalo chicken on it, and it is huge. You can tell her we really love this place. The prices are honest and the beer is cold and the drinks are great. And I'm over the moon happy when their beer distributor can keep them stocked in Shock Top!! read more

I admit, it ain't fancy! The ambiance is very "bar" like, so that'd get 3 stars. The server, Cat, was very attentive and friendly, she'd get 5 stars. The food is the star of the show. If I could give 6 stars I would! We got the appetizer sampler for 2, everything was delicious. I also got the pretzel burger. It was an actual pretzel bun!! A group of us were in town and this place was nearby so we decided to go. The restaurant has the typical sport bar vibe, no issues. The manager, Jason, was great. He spends a lot of time talking to each table which I found genuine. He was helpful with the menu options and his recommendations were what we ordered. The food was great. Tried both kinds of slaw. The white is more of a traditional, and the whiskey slaw is spiced. Both were good. Hushpuppies were tasty, but a little too underdone inside. The sampler appetizer was really good. The service wasn't the best and the chicken sandwich wasn't the best at all. I could have done just as well eating at home with a Tyson frozen chicken patty. I asked for pickles, lettuce and tomato.. only got the frozen chicken patty with lettuce no pickles , tomato or mayo. My fiance's burger was over cooked and dry. The food was great except that it was barely warm which is odd considering it took so long to come out. Had lunch here and the food and service were amazing! Fast on getting the food out, great taste and quantities of the food! I got the bologna sandwich with cheese and mayo, and it was the best bologna sandwich I have had in a while!! Also, the fried pickles are amazing paired with their homemade ranch!! We came here to grab a quick bite after running errands this past Sunday. We wanted to grab a few appetizers and go. This was not the case, it took forever. I totally get that places are under staffed, and things take awhile but 3 appetizers shouldn't of taken 40 minutes to get out. The southwest egg rolls were delicious, probably my favorite thing we ordered. They were a little cold when we got them, as if they had been sitting or undercooked. Either way still good, I bet they would have been even better served hot. The crab cakes were good too, also on the colder side... this is a trend with this meal. They weren't bad, I'm assuming frozen before we got them. They tasted like they had bacon in them, can't confirm but it was an interesting flavor in a crab cake. The sauce they served with it was delicious too. I'm assuming if they were served hot they would've been better. The wings were just ok, they were definitely over cooked & kinda dry. You guessed it... they also came out not hot. The bang bang sauce was really good, not spicy but great flavor. We dipped the crab cakes and egg rolls in them. I also grabbed a Bloody Mary, it was delicious. Served in a short glass lots of spice in the mix. Our waitress was very attentive, our waters didn't go empty. She didn't make any excuses for the kitchen the several times we asked about our food, but was very positive the entire time. It was much appreciated, we just hung out and waited. Their food is epic! The draft beer selection is generous, they also have a bottle beer selection, wines, and a full bar. Their prices are very affordable. We tried this place for lunch and the food and price was good! Lunch meals for $5.00 and it was good food. The service was awful. Our waitress was not good. Her name was Gracie. I do not write reviews to get her fired but she needs some kind of punishment. She got our order wrong and never once refilled our drinks or checked on us. It seems she had a friend group come and eat and she was all about them and not the rest of her tables so overall she was just good at all. The bartenders did NOT HAVE A MASK. They should get fined or something. And NO ONE WAS 6 FT APART MUCH LESS 1 FT. The hostess was good! Waitress provided excellent service considering the food was a horrible experience. My husband ordered grouper and got a completely different fish and I got salmon which came with ice cold vegetables and rice was unavailable and my substitute was burnt onion rings. We both spoke to management. Management agreed the fish was not grouper and removed his plate and meal. The onion rings were replaced with better onion rings but due to the unchanged oil they were not consumable.The atmosphere was nice and laid back which was good for a bar scene. The poor food experience did affect the waitress tip and I would never eat there again. read more

I ordered takeout a week ago via phone, once I arrived there it was confusing where to pickup, so I headed to the bar. I made eye contact with the bartender several times but she never came over, I walked up to the kitchen where they come in and out and stopped somebody. Once I got home and looked at my food, it looked like something out of a drive-thru. It was only okay, I got the barbecue sandwich, overall I don't think I will be back for their food.
