On this trip to Webbs the service was excellent. It was early in the evening and not too crowded. This is a very popular restaurant and reservations are needed (preferred) if you go at a normal dinner time. I had a 12 oz ribeye and it was great. Cooked just right and seasoned perfectly. The creamed spinach was also cooked and prepared perfectly. The restaurant is always in great shape and clean. It is always a plus to watch the kitchen prepare our meals and to look around at the old vintage movie theater equipment, film and reels along with watching a movie in the big screen. With almost 2,000 reviews already I'll, I'll try to focus on what others haven't said. So yes, amazing experience. Haley (sp) was our hostess and provided a warm welcome. I told her it was our first time so give us a seat based on what she thought most fitting. Did not disappoint thanks Haley! We were seated on the second floor overlooking the first. There are three levels on the second floor. The level on the bottom has cozy round booths they feel secluded, very nice if you're going for romantic evening. Our server Kayla knew the menu well, didn't steer us wrong. We had the meatloaf and salmon after selecting cheesy bread and duck cigars for appetizers. Cigars were good but I would definitely try something different next time. Cheesy bread insanely delicious. My strawberry lemon drop: delicious. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is because the men's bathroom trash was overflowing at the end of the night. We'll definitely be back for my son's college graduation. We returned to Webb's Custom Kitchen on Tuesday evening because of the amazing experience we had last year when we celebrated my 50th birthday--the food was phenomenal, and the service was exceptional. We even sat in the same section, just two booths down overlooking the kitchen downstairs. We had a 6:45 PM reservation and specifically requested this same section, but weren't seated until 7:20 PM because the section was full. Unfortunately, this visit did not live up to our expectations. The service was lacking; we had to call the host stand to get our waitress to come back to our table after we had finished our meal, and she immediately appeared only after that. The food, while cooked to our preferred temperature, seemed cold and lacked the flavor that made our first visit so memorable. Last year, our steaks were perfectly hot, full of flavor, and our waiter's recommendations and attention to detail made the experience truly stand out--so much so that we returned this year. Sadly, with both the service and the food falling short this time, the 45-minute drive to this restaurant wasn't worth it, and we won't be coming back. It's disappointing because our first visit, celebrating such a special occasion, set such a high bar, but this visit just didn't measure up. read more

It is widely known for special occasions but it is fabulous if you want to just have a great meal I love the upstairs seating. It's quiet and not crowded Prices are reasonable. Service is top notch. Very cool vibe that gives off a fancy, old-time theater feel. Definitely coming back. Porterhouse Club (5/5): The strip side of this 40oz porterhouse steak was phenomenal. Tender, juicy, flavorful, and well-seasoned. The crust was also perfect. The filet side was a little overcooked and not nearly as good as the strip side but overall, I loved this. Not much of a "challenge", but still fun to get my name on the wall and come home with a steak knife. I wish the knife was engraved or something though (it was just a regular steak knife you could buy from the store haha). NY Style Cheescake (5/5): Rich, thick, and creamy. The upscale steakhouse restaurant was converted from old movie theater with movie clips still being playing behind the kitchen. The dining atmosphere was excellent for patrons. This is a great date night option in Gastonia. The building is an updated old theater with classic movies still playing on the screen. There's a lower level and balcony seating to add to the charm. The food was solid and our server was great. My husband loved his ribeye (as evident in the picture). His baked potato was overdone, but clearly still enjoyable. I went with the scallops with black pepper polenta. The scallops were cooked to perfection, and delicious. the plate overall was just ok. What a really cool and unique setting for a restaurant. It's an old theater and it looks like a lot of the structure for the projector room is the bar area. I had the duck cigars and the potato skin appetizer from the happy hour menu along with a margarita. The ducks cigars were unusual and came with three different sauces (hot mustard, chile, and an Asian flavored sauce) that were absolutely delicious. The potato skins were pretty good, but I didn't eat a lot of the potato itself just the bbq rib tips and pimento because it was delicious. The bar staff was super friendly and super attentive, and I really felt appreciated as a patron. read more

My Sister Mary's birthday and I wanted to make it a memorable experience. We went here for lunch since it's THE top restaurant in Gastonia in my humble opinion. We've both had such great experiences here over the years. She thought it was so funny that I saw Robinson Crusoe on Mars at the Webb Theater in 1967, yes that was only 58 years ago. We had a fantastic lunch thanks to our Server Judy. She was great explaining the menu, telling us about our various options which was very helpful. We shared the Duck Cigars as an appetizer; slow-simmered confit of duck leg in an ultra thin spring roll wrap, flash-fried with3 types dipping sauce. Absolutely delicious! For my entree I had the Wedge salad with the added salmon as a my protein. My Sister had the French Connection sandwich; shaved roast beef on French baguette with tarragon mayo, molten provolone and burgundy au jus. She said it was great! There was a 'glitch' with their software system so our meal was delayed. Judy communicated that to us so that was good but an unfortunate circumstance for a special occasion like a Birthday lunch for my Sis. Unfortunately parking can be a bit of a challenge. There is no dedicated parking area so there are just a few spots on the street if you're feeling lucky. We parked a couple of blocks away at the Convention Center lot which was free. read more

The food presentations are on point and everything we have tried here is delicious. Get the ANGRY LOBSTER tails and the Duck Cigars. The bar serves up some great cocktails as well. We met close friends at Webb a week or so ago and just sat at the bar. We were very well taken care of and treated like VIPs! The ambiance is lively and classy with people recognizing and greeting each other. The four of us shared the artisan bread and were happy with it. My husband ordered the Cab Southern Meatloaf and it was amazing! I had the Shrimp and Lobster Sacchetti and I was equally impressed! Our couple friends had the filet. We'll try that next time. They have a decent beer selection, but they should offer another local wheat beer other than White Zombie, or at least Blue Moon or Shock Top on draft. My Aperol Spritzer was perfect. The exterior is fairly unassuming, but inside the decor is amazing. As others have probably mentioned, it's a former movie theater, converted into an upscale dining experience. Service was impeccable for the most part. And the food lived up to the billing. I had a limited-time appetizer of ravioli while my partner had fried lobster. She loved trying my ravioli while I thought her fried lobster had too much breading. We both enjoyed the food otherwise, and the drinks were pretty decent. If anything, the desserts were a little over the top. You expect that for the kind of prices, this place charges, but sometimes a piece of poundcake with a berry drizzle or whipped cream is fine too. The wine pours are heavy which I loved and I cannot tell you how much you MUST save room for dessert. Last night was our second visit to Webb's custom kitchen. Our first visit had some hiccups, but was taken care of by the manager. Our Last visit my husband sent a steak back as it was undercooked for him and they forgot his meal and would say it will be up soon. So he never really got to eat anything but the appetizer. They did send him a meal home and did not charge us for his dinner. So last night when we went back, we were giving them a second shot, as we honestly love the vibe of this restaurant. This time we were sitting upstairs and I highly recommend sitting up there. It gives you a nice view of the projector and the screen that shows the movies. We ordered two appetizers four steaks with sides and four desserts as well as two rounds of drinks from the bar. My girlfriend's well done fillet, her husband's ribeye was a good medium, my ribeye was a good medium rare and so was my husband's ribeye. However, he did not order his medium rare he ordered it medium well. The steaks were cooled to the touch and the brie butter that we got on top of it wasn't even melting at all. This time instead of sending it back, we just ate what we could. The waitress was kind. We were kind to her. We paid our tab, but I don't think we'll come back. At $200 per couple, You expect your food to be the way that you want it. I understand having steaks cooked multiple ways for the same table isn't easy for the kitchen, but even if it was cooked to a more medium temperature it would've probably been more acceptable. So once we got home, he fired up the grill and he put his medium rare steak on it so he could actually finish it. I would just recommend that staff pay a little bit more attention to the details. read more

What a fantastic place to spend an anniversary dinner! Our server, Amy, was so kind and her suggestions were spot on every time. The building itself is beautiful and sparked a lot of fun moments. The food, however, was the star of the show. My wife and I agreed it was one of the best meals, if not the best, we've had in years. The spaghetti squash and garden salad were lovely and so fresh. My wife cannot stop raving about the sea bass, though. Seafood so fresh it tastes like back home on the coast is hard to find so far inland- but WCK knocked it out of the park. In downtown Gastonia in one of the original theatre's, is now a beautiful upscale restaurant. The service we had was impeccable and started with our server shaking our hand and introducing himself, the southern charm was real! To start, we ordered cheesy bread with a four cheese mixture,minced garlic, onion and herbs. Probably one of the best bread apps I've ever had. The angry lobster which was fried and lightly breaded lobster tails, were also delicious and a new way for me to eat lobster. The U10 scallops with lemon garlic risotto was were topped with mango garlic salsa. The salsa had a little too much acidity and volume but the scallops were cooked perfectly. Looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate our anniversary we read some restaurant reviews. Intrigued by the idea of dining in an old theatre we settled on Webb's Custom Kitchen. It was a Friday, and prom night to boot, so there were energetic patrons, and an equally energetic staff. We were seated in the balcony, and were glad for that, since it was a great viewing area. Kim, our server, was outstanding in all aspects. She had a friendly demeanor, and was attentive to our needs throughout the evening. We could tell Kim wanted to ensure we had an extraordinary celebration, and she delivered. The entire team really set the tone for the evening, providing excellent service, and always with a smile. With "The Thin Man" playing on the big screen, we perused the menu and decided on the Webb Street School Mixed Green Salad and Strawberry Fields Salad for starters. Both salads were generous and appetizing. The Strawberry Fields salad will be my go to choice on future visits. For the main course we both chose the Center Cut Filet Mignon with the fully loaded bake potato for the side. We've dined at Morton's Steakhouse and Smith & Wollensky in the past, and we both agreed that the Center Cut Filet Mignon was one of the best tasting steaks we've ever had. If you're into cocktails I highly recommend The Bulleit. The demerara syrup and expressed orange peel added a little something extra to the taste of the Bulleitt whiskey and bitters. Dessert? We split the Cranberry Cheesecake...scrumptious. Towards the end of the evening they even had a special way to commemorate our anniversary. I don't want to spoil the surprise, but I will say it wasn't singing a song or making a spectacle of the guests. We definitely will be returning to Webb's Custom Kitchen. Custom Kitchen. I have 3 rules when Yelping; stay in too 10 for location, check sample size (1.1K reviews), check newest Elite reviews. Check all 3 and headed to WCK. It's located in the historic district of Gastonia in a renovated building around the corner from Franklin Street I walked in and noticed people were already waiting for tables and it was just after 7 o'clock. I spotted a bar seat in the corner between two sets of couples. No wait, good start. A couple to my right on the adjacent side of the bar we're very friendly and I ended up speaking with them during my entire meal. They provided me the history of the building. WCK is located. They were both archaeologists taught me many things about the history of North Carolina and about their travels in Germany performing cultural resource surveys. They were a local couple and seemed to know every other person in the restaurant. They made several food suggestions one of which was the southern meatloaf entrée. And on a cold rainy night in February, that one sounded most appealing. The meatloaf and mash potatoes tasted great and the company and dinner conversation were even better! I always like to start with the good. These were the damn best fried green tomatoes I've ever had in my life. Fried perfectly, amazing sauce, and corn salsa was nice twist. Now the eh, I ordered the tenderloins medium and they arrived very rare. The potatoes cakes underneath were burnt also. After a moment the server came back and was able to have the kitchen heat up the steak to "medium" which then was more like medium well but I was hungry so I didn't complain. I would also like to have more than 2 cold pieces of asparagus on top of warmish meat. I will definitely be back for double order of the fried green tomatoes and possibly another dish. Wasn't invited by close friends to try this restaurant for the first time I will have to say the experience was mesmerizing and the view was very beautiful as is an old movie theater that they converted into a restaurant. If you ever get a chance, make sure that you sit in the balcony so that you. Overlook the whole restaurant and watch the silent movies that they have projected on the screen above. The food was amazing. We tried the meatballs the lobster tails and I got the bone in ribeye with a side of macaroni and cheese. Everything was seasoned to perfection and well deserved. Our waiter Angela was very knowledgeable about everything from the restaurant history to the menu itself so I will give her props as she's been there for about six years as she mentioned.
