This place is definitely a diner on steroids. Half expect to be able to throw peanut shells on the floor. It's dark and loud w/a lot of TVs and alcohol so great environment to watch a game. Very few healthy options but you can be creative and figure something out. I had a burger and with it being so loud - the grilled mushrooms and grilled onions were missed. Would that have helped maybe. No condiments on the burger whatsoever so you have to figure out to put them on yourself. It's a sloppy burger. It was an okay burger nothing to write home about. There are no onion rings during brunch French fries were crispy and delicious. Julia was a great server considering how thin she was spread. Great hidden gem in Gastonia I was able to try when down in NC recently. The Groovy Beast is an amazing restaurant serving a wide variety of burgers, sandwiches and chicken items with a nice selection of appetizers. We were warmly welcomed and seated after staff set up a section for our party of 10. Our server Abbey was simply outstanding and was not intimidated facing 4 small children at our table. Abbey was extremely patient and attentive throughout our stay including making some excellent recommendations for first time diners to this establishment. The food was outstanding starting with the fried pickle chips with ranch sauce. Throughly enjoyed my Carolina Reuben sandwich served with a fruit salad ( first time I ever had that option). The Buffalo Chicken sandwich was both spicy and flavorful. The smash burgers with bacon were delicious but the onion rings left something to be desired ( fries were a better option). Cheeseburger sliders were a great option and could really pass for a full meal. Restaurant features a full bar area with seating along with a full dining area with table service serving great food at reasonable prices. Definitely worth a return visit next time I'm down in NC. read more

Yo, I've driven past this place for a long time going to visit family in Gastonia and always thought it looked fun. So, I asked a friend to check them out for brunch with me. We came on a busy Saturday and were able to grab seats at the bar. Tasha was our bartender and she was super sweet and very attentive! We had such a good time and a great meal!! I ordered one of their salads and added chicken, wings, whiskey and a beer. I also tasted my friends garbage fries, I think that was the name lol. EVERYTHING was so so yummy!!! They had a really good menu selection too. I really enjoyed this spot and highly recommend it. It's a lively spot and all the staff we encountered was happy and smiling! Another find thanks to Yelp, and I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. It's slightly tucked away off Franklin/Wilkinson, but it's worth the "find". All the food was super fresh, tasty, and the portions were huge! Everything we ordered was great, and you could tell there was an element of scratch cooked goodness. I haven't ordered a single item on the menu that I wouldn't order again! Plus, you can enjoy a flight of mimosas! We had seen this restaurant passing by on Wilkerson several times and planned to check it out. Then, I saw the reviews iin Yelp and said... we're going! We went on a weekday where the cheesesteak was the specialty. Based on the reviews we added the fried mushrooms. Spouse had a the fried chicken sandwich (yardbird sandwich.) They were excellent! We brought home half of each but ate all of the mushrooms (extraordinary!) The food was so delicious we returned for breakfast Sunday afternoon!!! That too was delicious and filling. The menu is simple burgers and sandwiches and a variety of alcoholic choices offering something for everyone. We went with the Reuben and Clubber Lang and both were perfectly toasted and delicious. We have been dying to check out Groovy Beast's new location and finally had the chance this weekend. Every other time we found ourselves in the area, they had a packed house and we had our dog with us, so we couldn't dine in anyway. I would love to see them offer patio seating since they have so much space outside of the new building. This time we left the pup at home since it was so hot and managed to swing by between lunch and dinner. Perfect timing! Our waitress (I believe her name was Nichole) was phenomenal. She was attentive without being overbearing and offered great conversation along with stellar customer service. The place was really cute and well laid out. Music was a little loud but I believe that was mostly due to originally sitting directly in line with the main speaker. We moved one booth up and problem solved. I'm sure when it's a packed house like any other time we have been by, the music is drowned out by all of the people. Just be aware if you're sensitive to sound.. last booth on the far side may not be the best seat for you. Having only been to Groovy Beast once before at the previous location, we had to study the menu for a bit to make our decisions. Everything sounded amazing. That's always such a catch 22. On one hand, you know no matter what you order it's going to be good... but on the other, you want to order it all! In the end we decided on the steak nacho appetizer, chicken wings, and a salad. All perfect options! First off, those steak nachos deserve a spot on the main menu! The steak is cooked to perfection which is almost unheard of when it comes to appetizers. Most places offer small pieces of over cooked and chopped up cheap cuts. Not here! Every bite was seasoned well and cooked better than any filet I've had from a restaurant in a very long time. Maybe ever. The chips were thick enough to hold up to the toppings but also crispy without feeling hard. The bbq sauce and cheese were both delicious and just enough to add to the dish without overpowering. The peppers and other toppings also perfectly complemented the steak. Plus, there were toppings all the way to the end. Most of the time you end up with plain chips once you get past the first layer, but not here! 10 out of 10 would recommend and would order again any time they were on the menu! Next up, my husband opted for the wings. And since it was probably about 3 pm at this point and we hadn't eaten, he decided to spring for the 10 piece. Which worked out great since he was torn between sauce options and he was able to get half of each flavor. The menu said the wings are jumbo and they're not kidding. Tons of meat and lots of flavor. They were cooked perfectly and both sauces were delicious. The bbq sauce was the same as the nachos and so good. It was the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. The garlic parmesan was packed full of garlic and had an almost buttery sauce. I was so full, I barely tried a bite of each but what I had was great. And my husband thoroughly enjoyed them. Unfortunately his appetite was bigger than his stomach so he wasn't able to finish them all but we made sure to box them up. Guess we'll have to see how they reheat. As for my meal, I went with the Buffalo Solider salad. Yet another great choice! The salad was huge and loaded with Buffalo chicken, salad greens, banana peppers, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, parmesan cheese, and house-made croutons. The ranch also seemed to be house-made (pretty sure our waitress said that all dressings and pretty much everything else is done in house daily) and was really good. People who are picky about ranch know that's saying something too. As for the salad itself, I feel like no matter how much I ate, I couldn't find the bottom of the bowl. I made sure to finish all of the chicken and as much as I could of the rest but that is one big salad! We also got a couple slices of the cheesecake to go since we have been dying to try them out. And even though we were still miserably full last night, we at least tried a bite of each. The dunkaroo cheesecake is perfection! They really nailed the flavors and icing. It took me back to childhood lol. I swear, even the new ones they have in stores now don't taste like they used to... but this cheesecake hits the nail on the head! The cosmic brownie was also really good but very rich. Which I figured going in and had planned to buy some milk to go with it but haven't yet. So soon as I get some, I'll work on that one more. Both tasted amazing and I would buy them again as well. All in all, you have got to check this place out if you're ever in the area! Tons of props to the owners and employees who have made this place what it is. I know it has been a labor of love. Also, pretty sure I seen a Roanoke College flag in there so curious if the owners may be from VA as well. Extra points if so! Thanks for the great meal and can't wait to return! read more

We were a group of 8 and we were sat pretty quickly. We had great service. I ordered the berry salad with the vinaigrette and it was so yummy! Probably one of the best salads I've had in a while. My fiancé ordered the UFO burger and seemed to enjoy it. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. Our drinks were a bit on the weak side. I couldn't taste the alcohol at all. omg this was such a great experience. we went on a thursday night and it wasn't too busy. got seated immediately. the staff is SO friendly. they were chatting with my toddlers and just being so nice. we got the brussel sprouts and the elote and both were REALLY good. the bang bang sauce on the brussel sprouts was different but i liked it! i would probably like them more without the sauce though. the chicken tenders were soooo good. perfect crunch, not too breaded but so flavorful and perfectly cooked. my husband loved the hot dogs! the fries were nice and crispy and the ranch was sSO good. it has a dill and herb flavor which i loved. we will definitely be coming back! read more

I have to say, all y'all Yelpers really came through this time! My husband and I are buying a house here in Gastonia, and after coming down for the home inspection, we were a bit hungry, so I looked around and found this place...Holy Hidden Gem, Batman! My husband had the shrimp po' boy and I had a chef's salad, and both were just outstanding! It stood out to me that no part of that massive salad tasted like food distributor veggies; they tasted like farmers market veggies. If you don't do anything else though, go try their cheesecake! All made in house, and just to die for! I got the Bailey's cheesecake and it was so good, I almost needed a cigarette afterward! The staff is amazing as well, so welcoming and super nice, and I loved the atmosphere! We've been a few times. The food is tasty the service is wonderful, not a fan of the low ceilings and lack of windows. It makes for poor acoustics, and (at no fault of their own) I feel that it makes fryer oil cling to the walls and frankly our cloths. By no means do I suggest not going there. The food is very good and the staff is friendly. Just my opinion and it's not like they built the building. Go get some good food! read more

The fries on the side were outstanding; crispy and nicely seasoned. My wife really craved a grilled cheese and some onion rings - and even tho this combo was not on the menu, our server readily accommodated her request. When I stole an onion ring I realized that the onion rings were freshly hand-made, some of the best rings I've had in my life!! Drinks were efficiently refilled, to go cups and refills offered - Wow! We have been driving by the Groovy Beast for a while, so we decided to run in on a Sunday evening. It's a nice open space with merch at the front, along with the cash register and a cooler display of desserts. There's a full bar in the middle of the dining room, which is open and large enough for a larger party. The menu is not too big, so you can expect that the food you're ordering is going to be good because they cook it a lot. American fare, some with groovy names like, UFO Burger or BYO Glizzys. I stick with the Party y melt on rye toast, with onion rings, and my husband got the Cheesin' Steak with fries. Love: Fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and well seasoned. Patty melt was well cooked and I'd only suggest a touch more salt, I asked for extra onions and a side cup of the comeback sauce. I like to dip my melts for extra sauciness. I'd definitely order this again. My husband liked his Cheesin Steak and would order again. Nutter Butter Banana Pudding- could've been a little smoother texture, a little more nutter butter, and I did expect an actual Nutter Butter on it somewhere, but I'd order it again! Prices-great prices The hostess was very nice, welcoming and full of great energy. Meh: I love onion rings, but these are fried chicken battered, so they're REALLY crunchy. I felt like the batter kind of took away from the onion, which is the point of the onion ring. I'd eat them if someone else ordered them, but I'll stick to ordering their fries, and can't wait to try the Disco Fries. Service is inconsistent. Some people sat down and had their food-similar dishes-rather quickly. It seemed to take a bit for us. Even the server approaching us after we'd been seated took a while. She seemed confused about entered or not we were her table. Between the onion rings and the rye toast on my melt, the roof of my mouth was a little scratched up. I will definitely be back to try some of their other items, including that glizzy and grilled cheese burger!
