We were in town for an event and decided to have an early dinner at Nellie's. This place has a friendly staff, great ambiance and good food. This is our second visit here, and our first time with the dinner menu. There were lots of great choices! We tried the hush puppies appetizer and the deviled eggs to start. Great presentation and delicious. For entrees we went with the chicken and gravy, fish tacos and the love bug smash burger. Huge portions and really really good. We were very full afterward. We wanted to have a little more leisurely time there, maybe try a dessert, but we had to be at an event, so there was a time constraint. Overall, this is a great spot in downtown Belmont. Also, this is Jonas family owned restaurant so check out all the music memorabilia by the restrooms. read more

Our family had its annual summer fun weekend and the first night we went here for dinner. I know it's always hard with a large group and they did a good job and keeping everyone attended to. This spot is beautiful, but the guitarist right behind me as our group of nine just wanted to visit and celebrate definitely put a huge dampener on our meal. We ordered a bit of everything and shared. The food was just ok..nothing really stood out. The hushpuppies were over cooked. My wife and I recently visited Nellie's Southern Kitchen, and unfortunately our experience was disappointing overall. We started with the pimento cheese fries, which were easily the highlight of the meal. They were flavorful, well-prepared, and set a great first impression. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. The service was noticeably slow, and our food took quite a while to arrive. I ordered the fried chicken, and it was significantly overcooked. The chicken was dry, and the breading was so dark it was just shy of being burnt. The mashed potatoes on the side were good, but they couldn't make up for the quality of the main dish. My wife ordered the chicken fried steak with roasted carrots. The steak itself was quite good, but the carrots never arrived with the meal. They were brought out long after we had finished eating, which made them feel like an afterthought. For dessert, my wife chose the peach cobbler. It appeared to be served with ice cream, but by the time it reached the table, the ice cream had completely melted. The dessert looked more like peach cobbler floating in a bowl of melted ice cream than a properly plated dessert. Whether it sat too long before being served or was prepared incorrectly, it was not particularly appealing. The one bright spot throughout the evening was our server. He was attentive, checked on us regularly, and kept our drinks refilled. Unfortunately, good service alone wasn't enough to overcome the slow pace and disappointing food quality. Such a cute spot right in the heart of downtown Belmont. Learning about Belmont and seeing of it is a good spot for my parents to move and going here made them feel great and welcomed! Food was tasty wish my chicken portion was larger but it was delicious. Hubby said his meatloaf was solid and the deviled eggs were good. We sat on the upstairs deck and I wished I saw the sign that it was dog friendly because there were two large dogs who were barking and really close to us. They did have fans and that helped with the heat. The waitress was nice and she had the whole patio by herself waitressing and bartending. If you're looking for a spot that feels like a Pinterest board coming to life this is it! The vibe is industrial meets farmhouse rustic, and the Belmont community clearly treats this place like a collective living room ! The best part of the night wasn't even the food but a teenage performer who was amazing on stage very talented young man I'm sure he'll go far! As for the food. It was a solid good not great I ordered the chicken and dumplings, which turned out to be more dumpling with a little bit of chicken it was tasty, but definitely could've used a sprinkle of salt and a few more chunks of chicken. The hubby ordered Cajun shrimp loved the flavor, but the sauce was a bit too rich and it became too much to handle after a few bites, Our waitress, an absolute gem!!! We wrapped things up with peach cobbler which was more miss than hit - we're crust people, and this was light on the breading and had a mysterious aftertaste that we couldn't quite pin down. I've had this place on my radar for quite some time and finally had the opportunity to try it. We sat upstairs on the roof top patio which is perfect this time of year. We started with the deviled eggs which have a (mild) pickled okra on top. While good, I'm not sure they're worth the price tag. However, the basket of biscuits definitely is worth it and I loved the pepper jelly jam that came on the side. Party of 4 adults, 1 toddler. Brought toddlers chicken strips and fries super fast. Chocolate milk however was WARM. Food came out and 2 of the 4 entree's were not fully cooked. Cobb salad w/ filet requested medium, came out very rare. Before it was even put on the table it was sent back. Came out well done. Other order was Egg over easy, grits and sausage links. Egg white was still runny and sausage also not fully cooked. When the waitress was told she got the Chef, he agreed but then the Manager came over. If you love good Southern food or the Jonas Brothers, you absolutely need to check this place out. I know that sentence is a little confusing. Hear me out. Nellie's is a slightly upscale, Southern comfort food place. It gives you that home-y feel in terms of the staff's friendliness, the warm atmosphere, and the great food, while also feeling like a a bit of a treat yourself kind of place. I got the chicken and dumplings and Mac and cheese, both of which were delicious. Now for the JoBros part. It's owned by the family of the Jonas Brothers, and inspired by their great-grandmother. But if you're not a fan of theirs, don't worry. The restaurant isn't Jonas Brothers themed. You wouldn't even know until you get into the hallway leading to the bathroom, which is covered in really cool Jonas Brothers pictures and memorabilia. As a fan, I really loved it. What's not to like about a restaurant devoted to all things Jonas brothers? I was in town for work, and someone recommended this. The service was fantastic. Our server was friendly and helpful and had great recommendations. The food was surprisingly good for small town NC. And the ambience was great. We left just as the Jonas Bros trivia night was beginning. After I got back to the hotel I discovered I had left my wallet at the restaurant. We had a pre-holiday weeknight dinner at Nellie's before heading to see the lights in McAdenville. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Loved the custom cotton light fixture at the bar. The food was incredible!! We started with some biscuits and they were so flaky and delicious. The cinnamon butter that came with them was just so good. Yum!! We opted for fried chicken (dark meat) and different sides of macaroni and cheese, collards, and fries. I've been to a lot of Southern restaurants and this fried chicken is in my top 5 for sure. So nice and light not over breaded. The chicken was moist and tender and cooked perfectly. The sides were so good too!! We wanted to try dessert but we were too full to even attempt. Service was great. Very attentive but not pushy. We never had to wait for drink refills or anything else. Heard a lot of things abt this place mainly due to the Jonas Brothers owning it, so definitely peaked my interest to check out. Had a 2:30 lunch reservation on a Saturday for 3, we arrived a bit earlier and the young ladies at the hostess stand told us we needed to wait closer to our reservation time even though there were plenty of empty seats. So we sat down to the side waiting for them to let us know they were ready for us. We ordered the fried green tomatoes which were delish. Then for entrees I ordered the fried chicken, one friend ordered the burger and the other ordered shrimp and grits. We got and two bites in when the manager on duty quietly came over and told us to remain calm and gather our belongings and evacuate the building to the exit in the back due to some sort of emergency. The few bites I did have, I can say I enjoyed the chicken, greens and cornbread but the mac left a lot to be desired. It was sort of dry and didn't have much flavor to me. We never got to go back inside due to the emergency but the manager came outside and took everyone's personal contact info to invite us back for a free meal. Just updating my review of Nellie's to reiterate just how GREAT my experience was! The crispy and moist fried chicken (white meat) was so well seasoned... flavorful throughout! There were nothing but pieces of bones left by the time i was done! The collard and artichoke appetizer was really good the last time I had it, but it was even BETTER this time. I think it's because they added cheesey bread with it this time that elevated the flavor even more! I'm already looking forward to my next visit to order the same things!! PS. Oh, and I can't forget our attendant Kayleigh. She was really good. Very friendly, and most importantly, she understood the importance of giving us time to enjoy the appetizer before entering the order for our main course. I SO appreciated that from her! we had the rehearsal dinner for my sons wedding at Nellie's. It was amazing! Dee Walker was our planner for the event and I have to say that after meeting with her a year before the event, we knew she was the one we wanted to work with. She met every challenge from an ever expanding guest list to diet restrictions with ease. A hundred champagne glasses? No problem... Gluten free? No issues! Oh wait 3 more people want to come... bring it on she said. The food was amazing extra cheers to the chefs to put out amazing hot food to everyone! The servers and staff? Smiling happy talking and looked like they were having as good a time as the guests! The Nellies crew delivered a perfect evening in every way! I went for sunday brunch and Nellies did not disappoit. I went to the belmont location and it was such a cute calming atmosphere. They have a musician playing the guitar. Our server John was so nice and attentitive. He checked on us but not to where it was worrysome. I got the Cajun Shrimp bowl and those flavors together were so good! They gave really nice size portions. I also got the okra appetizer and the banana pudding dessert. Everything was delicious. After visiting the Daniel Stowe Gardens we decided to drive to downtown Belmont for a quick bite. Nellies offers classic Southern cooking that is locally sourced  inspired by Nellie Jonas..Kevin Sr.s grandmother . Yes, part of the Jonas Brothers family! We decided to try their Pimento appetizer which was one of the few items that was GF. It is made with jalapenos and creme cheese which gives it a nice kick. It came with sliced veggies which could have been cut smaller but no crackers. I asked for crackers and they did not have any so the server suggested toast points. There was quite the wait to get them but they really made a difference even if they put an upcharge on the bill. I also decided to try a Sundrop which is a cross between Mountain Dew and Sprite in my opinion. Very refreshing.  Prices are somewhat high for what you get and they close at 2pm and reopen later for dinner. Make sure you walk to the bathrooms to see all the very Jonas Brothers music awards hung on the walls. When in the charming town of Belmont,stop in for a quick bite or just a drink...... Probably the best shrimp and grits I have ever had. The grits were incredibly smooth which is my favorite. The sauce was accentuated by diced tomatoes and made the whole entire plate taste amazing. The shrimp were huge and wells cooked. The polenta was the best I have ever had and I don't even like polenta but the fried crust was spot on. I tired one bite of the fried chicken and it was fine. The collard greens were pretty good and had a little sweetness to them with spice but I couldn't detect much spice. I would come again if I lived in this area. read more

I've been to Nellie's many times, especially when I have family visiting from out of town. Tonight we stopped in for a drink at the bar and dessert to go. We sat down at the bar, and while everyone behind the bar was busy doing something, no one acknowledged us. Not even a simple hello or smile (including from the host staff). Eventually the bar back asked if we wanted to see a dinner menu, which we declined, and he walked away. We waited minimum 5 minutes then before addressed again, to which we had to ask for water. Eventually the actual bartender came over and asked if we had ordered anything yet - no pleasantries or apologies for the wait. Drinks were fine, but as the night slowed down we were basically ignored. He only offered one of us a second round, even though there were 3 empty drinks. We then had to flag the bartender down again to order dessert to go, which took a significant amount of time to come out. The women's bathroom was dirty, with trash all over the floor. It was just an overall disappointing night and I will rethink returning in the future. read more

Recently took my mom and a friend for dinner and they ordered the same chicken and dumplings seated next to each other- portioned so inconsistently that one looked like a childs portion next to the Dad plate and big piece of chicken! It was my daughter's 16 birthday & after lil bumps the night was perfect! I was clearly overwhelmed & my server was AMAZING! She kept me calm & her positivity was contagious!!!! They didn't have to take our party especially the size & such short notice but he chose too & I'm forever grateful!!!! My daughter had an amazing time.
