Just visiting SLO and ate there one night we were there. It was GOOD. Big Portion (,I had ribs-- nine of them , big and meaty) Others also had big portions. Was in the area and decided to stop in and give this place a try. The customer service was amazing! from being greeted at the front door to our waitress, everyone was friendly and welcoming. Honestly, some of the best service I've had at a restaurant, easily 5 stars just for that. The prices were very reasonable and affordable. Many times I've had their food to go, but I have ate in their dining room and their staff are amazing leading to a great experience of service. I've had their cold plate for lunch and omelets for breakfast and it's always amazing. It was on a recent visit to Gastonia I was excited to reunite with family and my cousin suggested a place for breakfast that was outstanding. Home-style comfort food is what you'll find here at Firestone Grill which has a versatile space that was perfect for our group with a menu that was reminiscent of my years spent here in my youth.  This locally and family-owned spot is friendly, clean and welcoming and is great  whether you're looking to just enjoy a meal, or in my case, are getting together with friends and family. Be aware that putting the address 1325 W Franklin Blvd, Gastonia into your GPS didn't work for me. It could be because there's a 1325 East Franklin but just look for the sign.  Some of the popular dishes at Firestone Grill include homestyle classics such as fluffy pancakes, hearty omelets, juicy burgers, and a variety of sandwiches. But breakfast is the real deal when it comes to homestyle goodness, with biscuits just like Momma used to make. Oh, and breakfast meats, sure there's bacon and sausage but the additional choices of a good country ham, bologna, tenderloin and a real local favorite livermush!! I know, most folks get grossed out by the name but not me :-) What is it exactly? Well, livermush is a regional food that originated in the foothills of western North Carolina. It's a pork mixture of ground hog meat, liver, spices, and cornmeal. The tasty delight has a history dating back to the early settlers in the area, and it's believed to have been influenced by German immigrants who brought similar dishes with them. So now you know, and BTW it's also good friend in a sandwich. Love it! I had the Hungry Man Special plus pancakes, my honey had a veggie omelet (of course she's not a local LOL) and there was a variety of choices in our group and everyone thoroughly enjoy their meals from start to finish, and they make really good coffee which is always good. One of my clients ordered breakfast for us one morning and the food was great! Very filling, AMAZING prices, and tasty food. I loved the French toast. What a horrible experience. I ordered an omelette with spinach, onions, and mushrooms. I ordered hashbrowns. The coffee was delicious I will say. After 20 minutes I got an omelette with sausage and onion. Hashbrowns were raw. The toast was soggy with butter. )I asked that it be done well and dry. Of course it came back pale and wet). Then it seemed they didn't believe me when I told him the order was wrong and three people hired over the check that reflected my desire. They went back and gave me grits instead of the potatoes. They were watery, no salt, needed major work. My omelette came back it had peppers tomatoes and onion. Everything was right in it. Oh and cheese. Again I asked for mushrooms spinach and onion. I'm going to give the bacon its own paragraph. If you eat their bacon, you'll find it's petrified or raw. You can lose a tooth on the petrified bacon. The raw part left in oil slick on my lips. Sigh Now it comes time to pay. They charge me for the coffee, which was delicious, they charge me for the bacon, well I did take it to the boys, and they charge me for the grits, which I didn't eat. That was 6 dollars. They should've just said we're sorry, having a bad day, come back again. But they didn't and now I will not go back again. read more

Sadly, this was not a pleasant experience we had on our first visit Saturday morning. I wish I could give this place no stars. After sitting down, a server took our order and a number of other customers came in after us. Those people got their orders before us and in a timely fashion. After inquiring about the status of our order, we were told they were behind in the kitchen and it shouldn't be long. Then another table that came in after us got their order. We got up to leave, expressed our concern, and said we would pay for our coffee. Sitting right beside us was the OWNER. I expressed our concerns to him, he did nothing and showed no care for us. We were going to walk up Crowder's mountain one Saturday, so I called one of my friends and asked where should we eat breakfast in Gastonia, without hesitation he said, "Firestone Grill." Done. So after our being one with nature, we went to find food!! Yeah. We ordered grits, eggs, biscuits, sausage and pancakes. The place was packed. My only complaint is bad coffee. Inexpensive coffee can be fine if they would just put a little more grounds before brewing. I do not know who comes up with those stingy portions. We finally made it this place after Mr T Greene took over and ownership. It took a short time but has developed into a very nice, clean and friendly atmosphere. Food was very good including the salad bar and they had three meats, vegetables, casseroles, pasta, deserts and plenty of good sweet tea. Today made our third trip on Sunday for lunch. It is best to get there early as they are open from 11-2 on Sunday and the place does fill up quickly. The staff is attentive to your needs and the food was as expected. Great!! read more

They have additional parking in the back and you can enter through the back as well. My bacon and cheese omelet had no cheese? My breakfast special came with the grits but no toast? Staff was friendly 'Mary Jane' and she did refill my coffee, which was pretty good. I heard the owner say to his staff 'no excuses' well sir the fact that you didn't even try to make things right with your customer. Old school restaurant. My wife and I have always leaned towards traditional style food. This restaurant was recommended by several people my wife worked with. First of all the coffee is good which is a rare find as most of you know. The food was incredible. Every bite was rewarding. Of cause it was packed, people were waiting to get a table at 9 in the morning. The customers and staff were older, I would say average age was 62-65. I was ready to give a five star rating but the service was lacking. We saw our waitress 3 times. One when she got our drink order, when she brought our drinks and got our food order and finally brought our food and receipt. Never checked on us again for coffee refills or anything else. My quest for a Saturday morning breakfast/brunch spot in Gastonia, NC brought me to the Firestone Grill today. It's walking distance from home, so why haven't I tried it before? Poor reviews. Sometimes, you just have to see for yourself. I ordered 2 scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, and a biscuit. Everything was hot and tasty and the biscuit was particularly good - hot, large, flaky, and very good. It was served with small containers of jelly - strawberry and mixed fruit, and something called Whipped Spread. Didn't eat that - I'm an unsalted butter snob. With that small issue noted, I should mention the cost of my breakfast - $4.68! Service was prompt and I was checked on twice by the friendly servers. Seems to have gone down hill during the last year or so. Food bland and unremarkable. Gravy taste like flour gravy with nothing added. Ketchup seems watered down and toast was burnt on one side. That side was turned down, so I know someone seen the burnt side. Appears they have gone for cheap and not quality ingredients. Took my daughter there to have lunch. Was under the impression that they served home cooked meals. NOT! The food is what you might find in a military mess hall. Ok. I have ate here twice this week. The first time it was me, my 2 kids and my grandma. Food was great. My kids got a lot of food and ate it all because they loves it. We ate breakfast. I had gravy biscuits, tomato and bacon which was awesome. My 8 year old son got gravy biscuit and pancakes. My 7 year old daughter had eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and waffle. The only this she didn't like was the waffle but that wasn't on the place she didn't know it was a Belgium waffle. My grandma ate eggs, country ham and toast and she loved it all. The second time I got exactly the same thing. I'm a creature of habit. My daughter this time got lunch/dinner for the first time. She got grilled cheese and fries and loved it. She wanted dessert which they had a pretty long list of desserts. She got carrot cake and LOVED IT. The only thing I could complain about is the first time the waitress wasn't very pleasant but the second time our waitress was more than AWESOME!! Would totally recommend. read more

WORST! I will never be back to this restaurant nor will I recommend it to even my worst enemy! The food was bland like many other posts described. However the most horrifying thing there was the way the owner talked to his employees, especially the older woman who was my waitress. Witnessed at least three times he snapped at her while she ran around cleaning tables, taking orders, and bringing food to customers while he stood behind the bar counter reading a newspaper. If you enjoy watching a lazy owner bark at employees then go ahead to this restaurant with their bland tasteless food...but I've warned you. read more
