This place right here!!! I cannot even explain how awesome it is. But with all of the positive reviews, you don't have to just take my word for it. So I suggested coming here for my birthday. I read the reviews and looked at previous pictures and everything looked amazing. The décor, the old movie theater setting is so cool. Its a step in a different direction for a restaurant and I enjoyed attempting to take it all in. We arrived on a Saturday for our 6 pm reservation. I suggest making a reservation for this place or will you be stuck like many others at the bar standing around or sitting outside hoping for a table. We arrived at the restaurant on time and only had to wait about 5-7 minutes before being called to our table. Our waitress was really nice. She was patient since this was our first time. We ordered the duck cigars as an appetizer and OOOOMMMMGGG!! I am not typically a huge duck fan but these have me up and cheering. Anytime I come here you can bet that these will be on my plate. My husband had the Dijon chicken with potatoes and I ordered the braised rib over mashed potatoes. He also ordered the bacon risotto which was good. I had to add a little salt but overall it was great. If you are thinking about coming here, don't hesitate any longer. If you live in Charlotte or outside of Gaston county, this place is worth the trip. I have already made a reservation for my family in the near future for when they visit. The interior of this place just lovely. We loved the John Wayne movie playing on the screen and you can see all the action in their bustling kitchen from the balcony. You can request balcony seating but if you have a party larger than 4 you have to sit downstairs. I do think the food gets a bit cool when you sit upstairs just based on how quickly our food was brought from the kitchen it seemed like it should be blazing hot. The fried green tomatoes were fantastic and the duck cigars were my favorite. If I hadn't had an entree I would have given them five starts. The service was fantastic start to finish. They even had a hand signed birthday card for our birthday girl. My scallops were lacking somehow... maybe a white wine sauce of sorts would have helped but they were not overcooked which was nice. The beef medallions were so tender but not that hot sadly. The Tuna and lamb were top notch and the grits were to die for. I made a group of friends drive down to Gastonia to experience the fun atmosphere and good food at Webb Custom Kitchen during Restaurant Week. Even though we had reservations we had a moderate wait. The inside of the restaurant is amazing! The restaurant use to be an old movie theater and they have it decorated with old movie memorabilia and even play random old movies while you dine. I ordered the Cheesy Bread as my appetizer, the Center Cut Filet with mashed potatoes and the Bread Pudding as my dessert. The food was good but it wasn't phenomenal. The filet was just a normal filet to me. It wasn't the most tender or most flavorful steak I've every had. The dessert was rich but I'm not the biggest fan of bread pudding so it was just ok to me. Our server was a little off as well. She seemed to have an attitude but everyone has a bad day so I didn't let that ruin the night. I do wish she would have told me when I asked about the wedge salad that the tomatoes and cucumbers could have been easily picked off the salad. I would have totally ordered it instead. I would say that most of their points come from the decor and the atmosphere of the restaurant. It was such a nice place place that we talked all night. I will start with saying that from what my friends and family said the food was amazing. That is the reason for the two stars based on their feedback. Unfortunately for me I couldn't enjoy my meal on my birthday because my friends and I were sat at 3 different tables in different sections across the restaurant. I was so busy walking from table to table having conversations with my friends and family some which from 2 hours away to enjoy a nice dinner with me. I find it hard to believe that even with COVID and some restrictions on how many people can be sat at a table that the restaurant couldn't be creative with a weeks notice to accommodate my large party. They clearly have lots of space and could have accommodated us based on what we saw. As much as I would like to return here to actually sit down and enjoy a meal I'm not sure that I will. I loved the rich history behind this restaurant from a 1920s movie theater.. the presentation of its history from the staff was phenomenal and Kudos on the owner for bringing a bit of the past to present. Our waitress Brandy was awesome and very attentive and courteous...wonderful representation of the establishment.. ambiance was a bit of the past and present combo which was what I loved about the place. Inside architecture was preserved. As far as the menus . The short ribs was delicious, tender and melted in my mouth. The spaghetti squash was perfectly seasoned... the house crème brûlée is a must... At the end we celebrated a bday which they do not sing.... I recently moved to Gastonia about a year ago and tried this restaurant. I was absolutely amazed at the atmosphere and the back story of the tiny theater! The lamb, tenderloin, crab cakes, everything on the menu looked absolutely fabulous. I opted to go with the tenderloin medallions, because I love potato cakes and it did not disappoint! The manager, I cant think of her name, but she was a short, blonde woman told me and wife that they also served brunch on Sundays. Of course we were intrigued and the next Sunday we went for brunch. Let me just say, the scones were all you needed! The flavors, the crazy ingredients you never thought to put together came out divine! My wife and I continued to go just about every Sunday because we just couldn't wait to see what the next flavor would be. Fast forward to this past Sunday, and it had been awhile since we'd been, but THERE ARE NO MORE SCONES! To say we were disappointed was an understatement. Yes their food is amazing, but the scones is what kept us coming back and now it's just an assortment of what seems like pre-made frozen pastries from Publix. I don't know what happened but I would love to know why they stopped making these and the spreads/jams. This place is amazing. From the staff, to the history and decor this is a worthwhile place to try. This is an old movie theater and you can see the respect for the history throughout, lending itself to an eye catching, elegant ascetic. I spent 270 on 3 steak meals Togo ask and repeated that I wanted well done steaks no pink no blood only for the cook to cook it the way he wanted. So long story short I got home cut my steak and it was bloody only char on the outsid, mind you I have a lil cold "runny nose" that's it. for the chef to take the same steak left out the store god knows anything else old have been put on the steak for them to cook it along with other people food. I was expecting them to trash it and cook another steak they even cooked the chewed up fatty piece. with that being said I will never go back because of their cross contamination and thei disregard to other people safety just to save a few bucks read more

This is a top-notch restaurant who goes above and beyond what is expected. I had the fried angry lobster appetizer and lamb , asparagus and risotto one night and had to come again the next day. I didn't eat at the restaurant, but I ordered some lobster tails. My order wasn't quite right like I would expect it, but the manager went well beyond to make sure that I got what I wanted and walked all the way to the hotel that I was staying at to give me my food. It looks like a nice modern restaurant at first. But wait until you get upstairs!!! Old theater converted into a restaurant, the balcony overlooks the main stage (Open Kitchen) where you can observe the chefs in action. Above is a big screen TV playing old movies so you get the real theater effect. Then there was the food. Drinks, appetizers and entrees were excellent. I recommend the duck cigars and spicy lobster. We were in the area so we had an early dinner reservation on a weeknight in February. It was just after Valentine's so the place was busy. Location is downtown Gastonia with on street parking and a free parking lot on South Street. They also have valet if you want it. LIKED: I had the pork chop with sweet potato puree and she had the salmon with asparagus. Both meals were tasty but should be for $26 & $28. It's an old movie theatre so it's an unique dinner venue with good atmosphere. I went there about 11 years ago when it was Nicks restaurant so I remembered the space. DISLIKED: Constant server upsell or being misled on the menu. For example, when taking our order, the server asked- 'soup or salad?' The question inferred that it was included and it wasn't. It was a la carte. Tip- stop doing that, it only annoys diners and change the wording in the question asked. The restaurant is pricy enough and they sell bread on the appetizer menu for $6. Tip- this is not Uptown Charlotte or South Park Charlotte. It's downtown Gastonia where there are many empty/vacant business around town and people begging on the street 2 blocks away. read more

This is such a CLASS Act restaurant! They are able to present the best mixture of ambiance throughout this facility and staff! From the hostess ensuring that you feel important to the Black & White movie (with no sound) playing over a quiet quant table with low lighting which creates such a nice and romantic feel to the dinner. Additionally, the food definitely exceeds the standards set forth by the ambiance and the staff... the Shrimp and Grits, which my wife had, were so creamy and delicious! I had the BEST Ribeye steak I have ever tasted and some extremely delicious Smashed Buttery Potatoes. I would HIGHLY recommend this awesome restaurant to anyone! They are located in Gastonia NC so while driving in the rain 40 minutes from my house I was thinking it had better be worth it. I can say it truly was worth the ride. It is located in an historic movie theater. We had a reservation but had a short 10 minute wait before we were seated. The staff was very friendly. We ordered mimosas blood orange and cranberry. Then we got scones for appetizers with 3 different spreads can I just say wow! We then ordered the chicken and waffles and the short rib omelette. They were delicious and nice portions. We were full but somehow managed to squeeze in dessert. Chocolate layer cake for me and crème brûlée for my cousin. Mine was yummy just wish it was room temperature instead of cold and my cousin wished they put at least some berries or whipped cream on her dessert. Our meal was less than $100 for both of us. I played it safe and ordered the French connection a shaved roast beef sandwich on a French baguette and just thinking about in has me wanting to go back for more. The sauce to dip it in set everything off with this sandwich the zucchini Fries i ordered with it I felt could have been more seasoned . They were okay but the sandwich itself was impeccable. We almost did not make it here and that would have been a disappointment. Closed on Monday night we called ahead to make sure we had a spot on Tuesday. After being assured we would not need reservations we sat for a few minutes before being escorted to our table. We were unaware of the stairs but once we got to our table overlooking the kitchen and with a view of the big screen we were entranced. We thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience. Visited Webb's Kitchen last week while traveling for business at lunch. I returned for dinner this evening and was absolutely impressed again! I was seated in the "balcony" this evening and the views are just as beautiful on the ground floor. Had x2 pear vodka martini's that were made spot on, angry lobster tails, loaded potatoe, side salad and creme brûlée for a finish. Everything presented was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Super late review I know, because I visited in 2021 But let me say I still brag on this place!!! I rode my motorcycle from California to North Carolina to get serviced at a particular garage. An employee there told me about your establishment. She said I must go and I would not regret it. So I grabbed a couple of my Wind Sisters who were from the surrounding areas and we went and had the most fabulous dinner ever! Now, when I say there was four of us, all of us got something different all of us each other's food. Fantastic food! Came here for lunch on a Friday with friends to sample multiple dishes for less cost than the dinner plates and we were not disappointed. We all ordered sandwiches with the duck cigar and cheesey bread appetizers for lunch. You can't go wrong with any of them. The only lackluster dishes were the side of zucchini fries (soggy and not crispy) and the pineapple upside down cake. Review would have been 5 stars but multiple times our water glasses went empty and had to ask for a refill to the manager when he came by and asked how everything was.
