I traveled to Bend to ski Mt. Bachelor on 2/25-2/27. This place was great and the price was right - professional and accommodating staff, comfortable beds, clean rooms, quiet and they served breakfast. Will stay here again if I am ever back that way. When we arrived to our room, it looked very nice. No carpeting, solid surface flooring was a plus. Everything looked clean at first glance until water was spilled on the floor by the sink. I wiped it up with a wash rag and it was black. I washed the whole room floor twice. It was very dirty and obviously hadn't been mopped in a while. The bedframes were very dusty. The TV was awesome and the beds were decent. They are pet friendly. The hot tub was nice. The continental breakfast was not great and the coffee was weak. The first morning, they were short on a lot but the manager was very accommodating. Breakfast is open 7-9 M-F and 7-10 on weekends and holidays. We were there on Monday New Year's day. Breakfast was not open until 10am. Our first night, our room did not get cleaned. I had to carry my dirty towels to a cart in front of another room. I had to ask for towels, soap, toilet paper, and where I could empty my trash. We had been gone all day and returned after 5pm. The front desk manager was very friendly. The second day our room was restocked with towels, soap, and trash was emptied. Floors were not washed and the toilet was dirty. I can appreciate the upgrades that have been done. They just need to take a little more care when cleaning the rooms. read more

The Red Lion Hotel is dog friendly to all dogs regardless of size. I like this and my big dogs do too. The bed was comfy with tons of pillows. The shower head sucked with no water pressure though. It kind of felt more like being peed on than a shower. But other then that The Red Lion is just a clean, no frills hotel. read more

Place was nice, they let you borrow bikes for 2 hours and $15 after that before sunset! it was peaceful, you get to use the gym next door, which was really a great gym. The lounge area, has free tea, hot cocoa and coffee. You can watch movies for $1 and relax on the couch. The hotel rooms are small, and dont match the overall hotel theme, kind of old and dingy. Overall, I enjoyed our recent 2-day stay. Here are just a few reasons why: - Jaden and Melizza were awesome. Very hospitable and attentive. Melizza, the General Manager, addressed me by name each time - impressive! Both genuinely good with people, and go out of their way to take care of guests. The room attendants and maintenance gentleman were pleasant too, the few times we exchanged greetings. - Clean, comfortable room - Breakfast includes everything you need, PLUS waffles, which you make yourself. - Delicious espresso service and gourmet donuts in the lobby eat morning, with coffee (and other hot beverages), fresh fruit, and baked cookies available throughout the entire day - Welcome bag for Hello Rewards members, and doggie treats for pet. - $15 pet fee for entire stay; no size restrictions. (Bring a blanket or dog bed for your pet - we're glad we did.) - Floors aren't carpeted, which I really liked (hotel carpets are hard to clean and can get a little sketchy..) Bring comfy house slippers! - Cardio gym including 3 really nice, high-tech machines with TVs. Complimentary passes are available to use the adjacent fitness center, if you want to do some strength-training (however, I didn't utilize this option. - Nice laundry-room (Dry-cleaning services are also available, if needed). - Internet connection was fine - in the worst case, just a little choppy a couple times during usage, but not a major inconvenience at all if you can exercise an iota of patience once or twice throughout the day. - wonderful toiletries - Free parking, although the lot tends to fill up at night. This is a great hotel! They were an hour and 15 minutes late getting us into our room. But they made it right!!! We got a free night and 2 wine tastings. I don't mind things not being perfect as long as they value me as a guest!! The bed is so comfy and the tv is huge!! This is our sensors time staying here and we will be back! read more

Stayed here over the 4th of July last year. They got a nice friendly manager. Free breakfast was ok. The room was, well, ok but not great. We found a hot dog wrapper on the floor that clearly was not ours. We could watch the fireworks at the swimming pools and that was nice. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a night with our dog. They allow pets, however be advised that they do not allow pets to be in the room unattended, even if kenneled (which ours was). The woman who checked us in was very nice and gave us complimentary bottled water, snack bars, dog treats, and a lint roller (something I've never seen, but an awesome idea for those traveling with pets). The room was more than adequate for the price paid and nicer than most Red Lions I have stayed at in the past. Furnishings were a bit dated, but not too bad and the bed sheets and towels were nice and clean. The reason it wasn't a 5-star experience is because of a few issues. First off, when we went to use the hot tub it was fairly dirty and full of debris. To be fair, it is June and probably not many people use the hot tub this time of year, but it definitely hadn't been cleaned in a few days. No biggie, we used it and enjoyed it anyway. The biggest issue came when we were called at dinner by the front desk advising us that our smoke alarm was going off. The woman who called (the same one that checked us in) was very nice and asked my permission to allow security to enter the room. Of course I gave that permission and was told we would get a call back regarding the situation. The call never came. We ended dinner early and hurried back to the hotel to make sure everything was okay. Everything turned out to be fine and no one knew why the smoke alarm went off. I spoke to the security guy who entered our room who told me he pulled the battery out. We left and continued on with our evening. When we returned our key didn't work, frustrating, but understandable. My girlfriend, our dog, and myself all walked to the lobby to get a new key. The woman working (different from the one we had dealt with earlier) was less than enthused to see us. I told her we were the ones that had a smoke alarm issue and that our key wasn't working and she made some kind of a grunt, grabbed a set of keys with a hand written sticky note on them, pealed off the note, and handed me the keys without saying a word...no "I'm sorry", no "sorry for the inconvenience", nothing. When we entered our room we found our smoke detector ripped out of the wall, battery removed, and sitting on our bathroom counter. As someone who travels a lot, I know this is illegal, let alone just unprofessional. All this after a recent hotel fire in Oregon that burned down the entire hotel. I didn't care that much, but it's a little unnerving knowing you have no smoke detector in your room. The next morning while checking out I mentioned to the front desk that the smoke detector had been removed by security to which I was questioned as to why, when, and informed that they had "never heard of that before", and "usually people rip them out when they want to smoke in the room". The person didn't flat out accuse us of smoking in the room (which we didn't, neither of us as smokers), but I got the impression they were inferring that. Overall what started as a 5-star experience has dropped to a 3-star because of the lack of communication during the smoke alarm incident (we were never called back or advised our room keys would no longer work), the unprofessional manner in which it was remedied (rip it out of the wall and disable it), and the unfriendly/accusatory staff. Lastly I want to say that most of the staff I encountered were very, very kind and it was only a few individuals who provided poor service (I wish I remembered their names). Also, this hotel obviously takes pride in providing excellent service and I believe they do so on a regular basis. I have a feeling that we just caught them on a bad night and dealt with a few bad apples. I would stay here again and hope to. Hopefully my next experience is improved and I can give them the 5-stars I want to. read more

Staff was friendly and was well priced. The 1st room we had was terrible, we could hear the neighbors fighting. It sounded as though they were next to us. I went down to the front desk and they moved us right away. The second room was much better but had a weird smell to it. The breakfast was pretty good...eggs potatoes, bacon and sausage. Pretty good for money. Staff nice. Breakfast good. One big complaint....we stayed in a room under the stairs in an alcove. Area was not swept once in the week we were there.The walkway was disgustingly filthy and the rooms have tiled flooring. You tracked the filth in and your feet were BLACK.Step out of the shower and feet were BLACK. We used extra towels as rugs. Maid staff was apologetic and accommodating but they need to sweep, power wash and PAINT the concrete to keep it clean. read more

Great place for the price. If you're looking for somewhere clean and not super fancy it'll fit the bill. They had the most delicious cookies at check-in. Good channel selection from Directv. Asked for an upstairs room and got an upgrade in the process. Friendly staff that let me eat breakfast a little early. The only bad thing was no room fan, so you could hear trains, cars, other people outside so bring ear plugs or your own fan. read more

Our family stayed here and loved the friendly staff and great breakfast. The beds were super comfortable and the pillows were awesome too. Complimentary waters and kind bars were offered to us upon check in. They offer complimentary bikes to those interested in getting around town... And the rooms were very spacious. They also offer use of a full size gym across the street.... Sorta nice to use a real gym instead of the three pieces of gym equipment placed in a room stating that it's the hotel gym. Anyway, while it is not really a 5 star resort like the Four Seasons, I gave it 5 for the comfort, over-all value, and attentive staff. read more

We had the unfortunate experience of getting a room that paralleled a busy street. Super loud traffic noise that came through an air conditioner with vents to the outside. The other side of the room was next to the Black Bear Diner. That traffic noise was also awful. The smoking area was right in front of the stairwell leading up to our room. So, in order to get to our room we had to hold our breath and zoom past. Lastly, the trains blasting through. The hotel is located less than a block from the train tracks. Learning experience for sure, I learned to do more research! read more

I write while connected to their wifi. Overall, VERY pleased. This place is nice and clean. Remodeled room, comfortable and spacious. (Was upgraded, unexpectedly). Hard floors eliminate a lot of "dirt". The complimentary breakfast was average, nothing crazy, just the basics to get you started, good variety. I called the number on this Yelp, or maybe trip advisor, I don't remember. But I do remember talking to a representative that was located in the states to make my last minute reservation. Other places I called, I was sent to overseas reps. I hung up btw. The front desk gentleman that checked me in was all smiles, and happy to see me. I couldn't have felt more welcomed. I didn't try the pool or other amenities, that's why the four stars. Thank you again, will definitely consider a restay in the future being we come to Bend a few weekends a year. read more

We were on a road trip from Denver en route to central Oregon. After a horrific hotel stop in Boise (read: steer clear of the Howard Johnson airport location!), this was a mush-welcomed change. The front desk staff was super accommodating & friendly. When we told him about our experience in Boise the night before, he confidently told us this stay would be different. The lobby was cozy, with beer & sodas available for purchase. Our room was spacious, clean & nicely decorated. The beds were super comfortable. We had a fridge & microwave. No coffee pot, but there was coffee and breakfast in the lobby. Would definitely stay again if travelling through Bend. read more

Great hotel, spacious rooms for the price, great front desk service and pretty good continental breakfast. They were able to accommodate our early check in, and did so with a smile even though some things had to be rearranged to make it happen. Maria at the front desk was really helpful with maps and ideas of where to eat since I'd never stayed in Bend before. We got a great price for the room by booking online through the Lion's club membership (which also got us a free water bottle when we checked in!). Only problem was that the breakfast was pretty picked-through by 8:15 and the walls were thin enough that my husband woke up a few times in the night to what we thought was running water. They accommodate pets for pretty cheap. I'd definitely stay here again. read more

Traveling through Bend over 4th of July holiday, we got a room at the Red Lion via priceline. Good deal, room was clean, staff very friendly and helpful (gave us tips on where to go to watch the fireworks). Great free breakfast (pancakes, bacon, juice, decent coffee). I thought I had left my eyeglasses in the room; called back to the hotel and they were very helpful & responsive. (turns out I left them elsewhere, but at least I was able to rule out the hotel in a timely manner). read more

Had a pretty average experience. The girl at the front desk was really nice but when we arrived there was dirt on the floor in the bathroom and the room smelled a little funky. We weren't super concerned because it was just a place to sleep but then we came back the next day, after the room at been cleaned, and the dirt was still there. However there were new towels in the bathroom so someone had been in there, I guess they just couldn't be bothered to sweep it up. The next day whoever cleaned our room did a fantastic job, and the dirt was finally gone! The day after that our room wasn't cleaned at all. Overall our experience wasn't bad and every employee we encountered was very friendly and helpful. The complementary breakfast was also very good. read more

We paid $150 a night and this is because my girlfriend got the member package. She signed up to be one in order to get the rate; otherwise we would be paying $200 a night. We stayed for 2 nights. The rooms are nice, comfy bed. The staffs are great and super friendly. Love the patio setting they have around the pool. The lobby had great amenities. Great selections of breakfast. I wished the dining area was a little bigger. I don't expect every guests to have breakfast downstairs but they should have it big enough to be able to accommodate more than 5 rooms, especially for the amount of rooms they have. They had 3 larger sitting (4 people in a table) and 2 for two people sitting. I felt like we had to rush to finish so others could have a table to dine for breakfast. Nothing is more annoying than feeling being rushed but on the other hand, you didn't want to be the rude person who just hangs around knowing there's people wanting to enjoy their breakfast also in that small dining area. The shower head needs to flow more - there wasn't much pressure coming out of the water. Overall, it was a great hotel. For Bend, I know this is supposed to be a great deal. read more

I have to say this place is better than the dump of a motel down a block, but honestly, I was disappointed in a few things. One, the breakfast was awful, and they ran out of just about everything. The place to sit for the free breakfast was cramped and small and by the time we got there not only was the food gone, but there wasn't anyplace to sit anyway. However, it's the "free" breakfast that's not worth the wait, or taste that made it a three star. It's especially bad since Black Bear Diner is right there. The front desk clerk was friendly, and when we couldn't get the air conditioning to work, they sent someone immediately. The beds were hard, which is the way I like them, but my roommate didn't. The TV is in a cabinet and hard to see from the other bed, but we only watched it as we got ready for the day. We were not informed about where the soda machine or where anything else was located, so that is why I deducted a star. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, and will probably go there again. We'll just skip the breakfast part of it. read more

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights in July. The hotel was booked, but got a good deal through the Red Lion website. The hotel looks dated on the outside, but the rooms have been upgraded. We had a larger room with 2 queen beds and loved it. We had good sleep each night and plenty of room for our bikes. The Wifi speed was also good enough to stream Netflix. The best thing was the staff. We had hoped to check in early when we arrived, but they didn't have a room ready. However, the rest of the trip, the staff actually hooked up a hose, so we could wash our bikes! Also, the breakfast is much better than the standard free breakfast. I wish more hotels at this price had breakfast like this. The only downside, but it' not that bad is location. It's not near the heart of Bend, but plenty of stuff withing walking distance (like groceries). I would give this hotel 5 stars, but I tend to reserve that for beyond this world stays. Overall, I'd say one of the best places to stay in Bend, OR! read more
