Picked this for dinner as there was availablility for a Friday eve. Rerservations are recommended unless you want to sit at the bar. The restaurant is on Mass Ave so parking can be a challenge but not an overly difficult one if you do choose to guzzle gas. The ambiance is high noise! Due to the overly loud speaker system cranked up. So that was a little disappointing. Could not see where one would sit to avoid the speakers unless one exited outside. The crowd was a mix from millennials to boomers with the demographics skewed 65% towards the younger set. The older set were better turned out than the younger crowd to generalize a bit. Service was very attentive and polite. The stars are for that! The food was a big disappointment from the main menu. We did not try the oyster bar but other reviewers here pointed out that as worthwhile. The cocktail and wine menu looked pretty good. But craft beer choices were limited; no double IPAs to try and write home about. The main courses are served family style. The brussel sprouts started out tasty at the top of dish but the salt content was so overwhelming as we got towards the lower half we could not finish it. The smoked shrimp looked great but the smoked butter tomato sauce was high in salt; ate the shrimp but avoided the sauce. The king salmon was cooked to perfection but the sauce seemed to just meld in taste with the salt heavy theme. By this time the salt content was numbing the taste buds. We didn't even try the baked chicken that we ordered. Will not be returning and my recommendation is to try their raw seafood bar and hit the wine list and cocktails hard at the bar. Have been wanting to try Waypoint for a while and finally had the chance. They have an absinthe drink and it was pretty good and strong. All of the drinks were pretty strong but did not taste like alcohol when drinking it. For the food, it is pretty good. I really wanted to try the uni bucatini, hoping it would be rich and creamy with the egg yolk but it was a bit disappointing. I enjoyed the Ora King salmon and smoked shrimp (highlight of the menu). The food was good and the vibe was nice. Service less so (I would give 2 stars for service). We ordered a chicken dish, and a fish, for entrees. The chicken arrived....and the fish arrived a full 35 minutes later, by which time my companion had finished his food, and I was about to order takeout. The server brought the fish, made no comment or apology, and was about to rush off when I said (politely) that it had taken a long time and my friend had long since eaten his entree (his plate had been removed) She replied that "it comes as it is cooked". Well, I can understand there is sometimes a timing problem in kitchens (or maybe a mistake in the order), but in this situation it is much, MUCH better to acknowledge the unsatisfactory situation, and apologise, rather than give some BS reason that implies this is all OK! Incredibly delicious food in a nice environment and exceptional service. My first time here, and it's been a while since I've been this taken aback at how fantastic everything was. This isn't just the same old menu everything was unique and what we tried, wonderful. I had a lovely cocktail- not too sweet, fresh & complex flavors. I tried a bit of my husband's cauliflower caesar and it was so good I wanted to keep it all. I had the farm pizza, just really fresh veggies in a perfect combination and the dough was perfectly cooked. My spouse raved about his salmon (crispy & creamy cici beans, torched grapes & lemon) and it looked INCREDIBLE The desserts were great - I had a panna cotta that was just perfect. I came by on a Tuesday evening with 3 friends for dinner - the restaurant was extremely busy, but we had reservations so we were seated immediately. Our servers were initially quite attentive, attending to our drink orders and providing recommendations for our food, but after we had ordered, it was almost 25-30 minutes before the first plates began to arrive, and catching our server's attention was constantly a struggle. Unfortunately, the wait was barely worth it, as almost everything we ordered fell flat (at best!). We started with a plate of oysters for the table - they have a happy hour special for $1/oyster. MIxed reviews across the table - and overall I'd say they were of acceptable quality for the price - but just so. We also ordered the salmon crudo, and while I did like the interesting (perhaps even clashing) flavours of the various corn, mustard, avocado sauces, the fish itself was bland, chewy, and didn't taste fresh at all. For our mains - we had the chopped clam pizza per our server's suggestion. It's a little telling that the best part of the pizza was the crust - overall, the cheese and sauce were just so, so salty, to the extent of overpowering almost any flavour that the clams (or any of the other toppings) contributed. The uni bucatini was perhaps the high point of the meal - pasta was cooked well, albeit a little too hard (even for al dente), and the cheesy, egg-y sauce was really quite tasty. In contrast, the wood-grilled monkfish was perhaps the low point of the meal. The fish itself was dry and tasteless, and the whole dish was in a thick, heavy olive-based sauce that totally dominated every other ingredient. Even the crispy potatoes - generally seasoned and cooked quite nicely - turned into a mess of olive-flavoured carbs in that sauce. We all came away from dinner with a bad taste in our mouths - both figurative and literally (that olive sauce really was something...) All in all, my visit was a stunning disappointment - all the worst since I had had such high expectations for this restaurant.  Subpar food, small portion sizes, and for this price? Service was great; our server was helpful, efficient- orders taken, waters refilled, plates cleared quickly. Food arrived quickly too and was excellent. Hiramasa (white fish crudo, sesame-umami brittle, jalapeno, shoyu syrup) was a standout; we ordered this based on our server's recommendation. I also liked the baked oyster plate, but this was really appetizer-sized, not a full plate. Surprisingly the mushroom pizza (another recommendation) was delicious, with a fresh, fluffy crust. The Uni Bucatini (pasta with smoked egg yolk, pecorino, bottarga) is a favorite amongst yelpers; I liked the slightly chewy texture of the al dente noodles but the flavor was slightly one note. Great place for seafood. My friend and I shared the branzino that was exquisite and the hamachi that was at least just as good. Loved the seasoning on the hamachi. We also had the mushroom pie, though each of us took a quarter of it home. We were absolutely stuffed, though in a very nice way. We did have to return one glass of white wine as it had soured. The waitress was fine with that and we tried a few others along with a new bottle of our original white. The French press decaf was a nice touch. Our waitress was very nice though stretched a bit thin. The restaurant was not crowded and we were able to sit in a quiet area which was wonderful given how hard it is to hear in so many restaurants these days. Definitely recommend Waypoint! read more

The food was not what i expected. it was average. the blue fin tuna app was good; however, it was smothered in chili oil and mint and it was just too much for something that should be so simple. The pan seared salmon was dry and a very small portion compared to the fish and chips (which was good, but the bar down the street does better). So all in all, average food. we went here because waypoint has $1 oysters from 5 pm to 7 pm from monday - saturday. it was my first time trying oysters and i enjoyed them! the oysters were fresh and the dressings that came with them added to the dish. we also had the mushroom pizza and seared tuna & rice bowl. my favorite dish was the mushroom pizza, it was so delicious and i would highly recommend it! the seared tuna & rice bowl was decent--i probs wouldn't get it again. our server was very sweet and the vibes inside are great. waypoint is a bit on the pricier side, but i enjoyed the food. i would definitely come back for the pizza! if you are looking for a good oyster spot, i would recommend you try it out. read more

The food is pretty solid. Nothing super exciting, but definitely reliable and I've been going since they opened up years ago. But a recent experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I was there with a friend (party of 2) and I noticed out of the corner of my eye that a "large party automatic 20% gratuity" was added to our bill. Then when my friend I got the split version of bill to put our cards down, it included that automatic gratuity even though that was not mentioned anywhere in the split version and the bill was not itemized. So we wouldn't even have noticed and would have easily tipped 40% if we hadn't remembered the itemized costs ourselves and noticed that "large party" line out of the corner of our eye earlier. There is no way that was added by default, so it felt like an intentional, scammy, sleazy, thing. Maybe this reflects just on one server rather than the restaurant as a whole, but still the restaurant might want to watch out for who they hire. Their $1 oysters from 5-7 pm can't be beat! They're fresh and delicious, and come with tasty condiments. The seafood here is pretty good overall. I liked their cod cheeks and uni bucatini! The pasta had a nice chew and the uni and sauce were rich and luxurious. Good service and nice interior, though a little cramped between tables with everyone's winter coats. A little disappointed in our experience here. We came for dinner on a Thursday night with reservations, were seated promptly and service was perfectly nice, no complaints there. Ambience is fine as well, however there was a large recruiting dinner happening behind our table which was pretty loud so it got a bit hard to hear conversation. I ordered a glass of pet nat which tasted nice, albeit not sparkling like the menu said. For food, we got the illadelphia and mushroom pizzas, fried brussels, salmon, cod, fish sandwich, cacio e pepe and spaccatelli (substitute as they were out of the seared tuna bowl). The pizzas were good, and brussels had good flavor but was a bit too charred and heavy on the fish sauce for our liking, aka saltyyy. The fish sandwich and cacio e pepe were enjoyed, but the cod, salmon and spaccatelli left quite a bit to be desired. The cod was luke warm and lacked flavor, and the spaccatelli was quite overcooked. This was my second visit to Waypoint and absolutely loved it! I went with family to celebrate a special event. I was pleasantly surprised by how busy Waypoint was on a regular Wednesday evening. We sat in a booth with views of the raw bar. Our waiter was excellent. He was friendly, and gave out great recommendations about the food and wine pairing. I'm a big fan of the ambience at Waypoint. It's lively, fun, casual but classy. I especially like how Waypoint opens all of the big glass windows when the weather is good to create a semi outdoor feeling. We started with the some oysters and Hiramasa (smoked scallop XO, celery, citrus chip). The oysters were fresh and came with several dipping options, including a fermented sauce that's slightly spicy. I would totally go back for their oysters happy hour. Hiramasa was recommended by our waiter. The smoked scallop XO sauce was unique, on point, and indeed smoky, but I think the crudos portion is a bit small. For main dishes, we got Emmer Casarecci (fermented parsnip, brown butter, hazelnuts, nutritional yeast, maitakes), Uni Bucatini (smoked egg yolk, pecorino, bottarga), Octopus Caramelle (smoked leek, fennel pollen, squid ink) and wood roasted salmon. A pro tip we got from our server is that the dishes at Waypoint are meant to be shared like family style, so don't be surprised if some of your main dishes come before the rest. Emmer Casarecci was a great vegetarian option. The fermented parsnip and maitakes go well together and create this slightly sour flavor that is balanced out by the brown butter. Hazelnuts and nutritional yeast add a crunchy texture to the dish. The pasta itself is fresh and chewy. Octopus Caramelle was so delicious, and probably my favorite dish of the night. As the name suggested, it's essentially octopus stuffed inside the squid ink pasta. I thought Uni Bucatini was a bit oily and not as flavorful as the other pastas we got, but I would still recommend it unless you're craving something light. My only complaint is that the portion sizes are somewhat inconsistent. Emmer Casarecci and Uni Bucatini both had relatively large portion, but Octopus Caramelle was much smaller. We got a bottle of white wine to go with our meal, but their cocktail menu looks great and I would love to go back to try it out. read more

The salmon come with a crispy piece of skin that was very tough and didn't feel like part of the dish. Seriously, save your money. The Wood Grilled Octopus was the most interesting dish I had here. The combination of flavors is unusual but it works! Also, the octopus was cooked well, which rarely happens. The pizza kind of tastes like a fancy tuna melt... I love tuna melts but this is not worth the price. The lobster bucatini was also good, but it wasn't carbonara or cacio e peppe, it was just butter. So delicious but average. But the rest was all olive oil and what seemed like garlic garnish. Imagine a giant garlic roll converted into a pizza pie. The service is slow and the dishes are bad. Every dish that we ordered is neither over-seasoning nor undercooked. The chopped clams were tasty but the more they eat, the saltier it is. For the pasta, we ordered the Lobster cacio E pepe, uni bucatini, and Jonah crab & angel hair. We told the server that the pasta was undercooked, and the manager came to us that it is the texture since is made with wheat just you are not used to eating. He just walked away after telling us. Overall food, drinks, and service was good. Waitress was nice and helpful in answering our questions. From raw bar, we had oysters: Wellfleet, Cotuit, and Chebooktook. It came with lemon, garlic vinegar, Tabasco. All were delicious! For our plates, we shared the Wood Grilled Octopus, Brussels sprouts, and Bluefish Head and Collar. The Wood Grilled Octopus was okay, there weren't many pieces of Octopus, seemed to be more potatoes -- and actually when I scooped some to my plate I thought I had some octopus pieces but they were potatoes. Can't complain about the Brussels sprouts. Good texture, cooked well. Nice balsamic flavor. Simple. The Bluefish head and collar was the main dish of the table. The food at Waypoint was solid and I'd definitely come back again. Let's get the petty stuff out the way first, our server looked angry the entire night. Dropped stuff off and walked away without us ever getting the opportunity to ask what each dish was or if we needed anything else... For the apps, the lobster toast was fine but the menu fails to mention the copious amount of celery that hits your face when you take a bite. Crab fries were phenomenal and one of my favorite dishes of the night, so well seasoned along with the chili mayo dipping sauce. We got 2 pastas (lobster cacio e pepe and uni bucatini) and they were both pretty bad. Dry, under seasoned, and cold. These dishes nearly ruined the meal for us, just avoid their pasta dishes altogether. For entrees we got the chopped clam pizza. First time having something like that took a few bites to acclimate but overall I enjoyed it. Had a nice kick and flavorful. We also steak tartare, char belly, and lobster tails. Lobster tails were really tasty and my favorite dish of the night. The belly was bland and had bones in it so pass. Bonus points for having a good mocktail menu. Dollar oysters! I love my dollar oysters, especially when you don't have to compromise on the quality for a daily selection choice. Interestingly paired with a hot sauce amongst other typical sauces. Not the biggest fan of the hot sauce, but it was rich and tangy which was nice to try. Main dish was the crab and angel hair. Very rich and creamy in nature without being too heavy. Flavors of crab and bacon were light but paired well together. Thoroughly enjoyed the pasta. read more

waypoint is super overrated. my boyfriend and i came here for date night and it was subpar. we ordered the smoked chicken raviolo, burger and a dozen oysters. the oysters were pretty good and prepared quickly. however, the other two dishes took almost an hour to be prepared. the smoked chicken raviolo was very sour and not at all what i expected. they have happy hour oysters for $1 each between 5-7pm. the vibes and layout of the restaurant are super nice, but i don't think i'll be back. overall rating: 5/10 read more

When Waypoint first opened, it was a huge deal! For those of us Alden & Harlow lovers, we were excited that a seafood version was opening up. For the Harvard Square restaurant frequenter, it was exciting that a new, trendier spot was opening up in the area. While Waypoint does serve seafood and is trendy, sadly, it has yet to wow me. I've eaten here a few different times and it's fine, but not what it should be for the prices. The pizzas always feature too much oil and garlic and the roasts are unremarkable. The pastas though, are tasty! As are the drinks. I do wish they had more vegetable and salad options (okay, maybe I just wish they would have the kale salad I love at Alden & Harlow). Service is nice and there's good vibes, which I guess is what we're all paying for. But given a choice on where in Harvard Square to go for a treat yourself meal, I'm sticking to Alden & Harlow. read more

This is a really good seafood restaurant, with excellent options. I recommend the Clam Pizza & Carb Fries. These are two of my favourite items on the menu at this restaurant. The service is as expected really good and the ambiance is casual it does get a but noisy and busy. Parking around this restaurant is scarce, I didn't see any paid public parking garages either. read more
