My husband and I recently just purchased a new place needing a ton of renovations. Soooooo.....I'm in the Air Force and I was skeptical about purchasing carpet with outside facilities. When I walked in the carpet outlet, we met Gene, a humble (yet funny), knowledgeable, welcoming, and to the point gentleman. He listened to my needs then stuck with us to show everything he had in stock, expensive or not. I lack measurement knowledge so he jumped from square to square on the ground to show me the measurements I needed(hilarious to watch) !! After 20 minutes of working out estimates and sizes, I ended up telling him, can we put it on hold? We left and went to another carpet facility. We walked in and the sales associate was not The "gene" personality. Because of his expertise and personality, we decided to stop looking and purchase our carpet with Gene. We are in the process of moving, and I have been on a mission to redecorate in the most "designer-ish way" possible, but on a stay-at home-mom's budget (which is pretty much like design on a dime!) Carpet Outlet has the BEST selection of remnant carpet pieces, and at the best prices too. When my husband and I purchased our first place as newlyweds, we got a super good deal on top quality berber remnant that was enough to carpet our entire bedroom, at about 1/4 of the price we would have paid per square foot. I also just recently purchased a remnant 12x11 piece of top quality designer berber for $179, plus about $55 to have it bound to be used as a large area rug. If you've ever shopped for carpet, you know how expensive it can be, and an area rug of that size could cost you anywhere from AT LEAST $300 and up, so this was very affordable. Even if you are looking to carpet your home and not looking for a remnant piece, though their selection is small, they do have some nice, higher end (as well as many lower end) options at good prices. They do not do installation, but have a "cork board" of people they recommend. The shop itself is no show room, that's for sure, and the service is not great, but not horrible. The man that helped us was a super mellow, non-expressive guy, but full of helpful info, answered all our questions and very non pressure. I think he was the same guy that helped us when we were newlyweds. Also, we've been to Carpet Outlet a total of maybe three times since we've gotten married and we are always the ONLY ones in the store. Derek is all about people unlike our experience down the street at Bougainville Flooring, who seem to be more about commission. We originally bought our flooring through Bougainville, but if we only knew then what we know now. We needed to find stair nosing to match our flooring, which was a difficult task because they didn't make it for our particular flooring. We have been all around island to no avail until we got to Carpet Outlet. Derek, even after knowing that we bought our flooring elsewhere, was more than willing to help us. He looked things up and called the right people to try to cross match as best as possible. He even found a product that was in stock at the warehouse. He is such an honest guy. He even wrote down the product and told us to order it through Bougainville since they get it from the same warehouse. When we tried to ask Bougainville to match it, they were no help at all. We turned right around and ordered it from Carpet Outlet. We should have just gone to Carpet Outlet to begin with. I enjoyed my experience there much better. I came to Carpet Outlet because the developer I purchased my home from selected the flooring from here. The first time I visited Carpet Outlet, we've met up with Byron, the owner. He was very respectable, knowledgeable and eager to help us with our needs as we wanted to replace a selected flooring area in our new home. We were shopping around to find the correct materials that can fulfill the project and to come up with a final budget before undergoing our project. Byron gave us great tips and insights of what to look for. After consulting with our installer, I went back to Carpet Outlet a second time to finalize the material selection we would be using for our project. I was extremely disappoint and insulted by the customer service the second time around. Upon entering the store, there was no sense of welcome or greeting. Basically, you're practically the only ones in the store at a time. Fortunately, because of my previous visit I went around viewing what I needed to look for. Gene was the one helped us. I explained my project and exactly what I was looking for. Apparently, that message did not get through Gene's mind as he kept upselling me to materials that I clearly told him I did not want - He clearly worked on commission. On top of that he mocked my project not only in front of me, but clearly went to talk to Derek, the other sales guy, at the front of the store about it when I was consulting my mother on our next steps in picking materials. People have opinions, but it is unnecessary to mock and insult a customer who is trying to get materials for a project they do not fully understand, especially within earshot (He was pretty loud about it). Although I didn't end up purchasing my carpet here, the service was excellent. The sales person was very knowledgeable and showed me all their carpet pieces I could by at a decent price. This would be a location to go to if I were carpeting my whole house. The parking lot was small, but decent sized for the number of customers at a given time. I was looking for a very small piece (6x9 feet) that had some color and was fairly flat. They had some nice decorative ones, but way out of budget for me. The smaller pieces they did have that were at price were very plain in color and style. So if you're looking for something like this, you probably won't find it at Carpet Outlet for cheap. read more

I would be giving this a 1 star if I wasn't partly to blame. I was looking for laminate flooring so I asked for a sample. This store unlike others charge a $20 retaining fee until you return the sample unlike other stores who give away free samples which I have no problem with by the way. Due to the distance and my busy life (two infant children and moving into a house that needs work while trying to rent out my apartment) I had it in my mind that I would eat the $20 cost and they would just make another sample unless I had to head out in that direction for another reason. Gene gave me three constantly escalating calls to get the sample back which I found weird because I thought $20 is more than enough to pay for that tiny sample. Then I looked at it and it didn't just look like a cut piece of a laminate. It actually had work done to make it into a sample. So I felt bad and went to return it on my day off. This is where gene was wrong. Firstly I saw him calculating numbers on his calculator which I thought was strange. Then when he handed me back my money he only gave me back $15 and some change. I asked him why he didn't give me back my $20 and he said it was "processing fees." So I said where is that in the contract and of course it's not in it. He pointed out to me that I was supposed to return the sample in 3 days which i agree is in the contract. I ended up taking the sample back. If gene wanted to get his sample back and penalize me he should have told me over the phone that he is going to charge me. The funny thing is if he just told me that he didn't think what I did was cool and said I can't give you all your money back I would have said how about we split the $20 so in that case he would have had to return less money. Even better if he told me that I returned the sample back way to late to return my money I would have apologized and just gave him the sample back for free. read more
