I didn't want to have to write this review because I really want to enjoy this shop that is close by to where I work. I've been here multiple times and each time was more disappointing than the next. Pros: The space is clean and well lit. The owners are nice..? For the most part they seem nice but one of them had an ear piece in so I wasn't sure if he was talking to me or someone else . Cons: the drinks are always awful. As soon as you walk in, it doesn't smell of coffee. My friend and I have ordered multiple times and both of us agree that the coffee tastes bland and off. I ordered a matcha latte with oat milk and it came out looking beautiful. One sip and I couldn't continue. It had an off, slightly fishy taste. I hate wasting food but this is the first time I had ever thrown out a full beverage, but I just couldn't consume anymore. I've tried Waves Coffee 3-4 times at this location. The staff, who I believe are husband and wife (owners, perhaps?), have served me an oat milk latte that wasn't very pleasant sort of watered down from the first attempt. A week later, my friend and I decided to give them another shot since we both work nearby, hoping it was just an off day. Unfortunately, the same results occurred. I like supporting local businesses, so I kept trying, but the quality remained the same. Maybe they don't know how to calibrate their coffee to fit their espresso machine, or it could be the water who knows? I've visited Waves in Coquitlam Centre, and the difference is night and day. I hope this location can improve their recipe or figure out what's causing their coffee to taste off. read more

This location is super clean! I am not sure if it's because they maintain well or it's because of the virus. I was happy to stop by to get a small hot chocolate. It tasted decent just like any other Waves location. Staff were prompt and friendly. I'll come back again when I am in the area! read more

Freshly Brewed de - caffeinated coffee with hot almond milk steamed served 'on the side' was DELICIOUS. One of the best we've had in Canada! yes, THAT good FULL flavoured smooth & rich coffee delishishness. Why u may say only 3 stars ? Firstly the ordering process: 3 separate vignettes to share in the 15 minutes I was at the ordering counter; Multiple repeats as there were language issues, and it took a LONG TIME to get it STRAIGHT and correct, customers behind in the queue getting ANTSY threatening to leave , another getting overcharged as WRONG order got into the system / dat fella raised his voice & temper flared. Being patient (world travelled), this writer kept at it until both order taker (native Farsi speaker - nice guy, but struggling) & barista got it RIGHT. That took time, which is okay for us.... to a point.... Albeit a loss of star due to overall 'competence' of the entire experience: I bussed my own outdoor table and cleaned it prior to taking our seats...lotsa unbussed tables, clutter unsightly. Area around the condiments self serve was unkempt / dirty needed a tidy up. Self serve water dispenser empty = unacceptable in hospitality biz. Basic really, no time for chitchat with yer countrymen whilst yer place of business needs 'ATTENTION ' , however as I write this, the gent who was taking orders is sitting & socializing whilst his tables remain unbussed = curious. Speaking with other clients afterward.... concensus was: BEST aspect of this Waves location was, and I quote: " it's not SBUX". That is faint praise. Value is another story. 9 dollars Canadian for two large decaf coffees, no food, is spendy & Lose a star relative to ambience comfort cleanliness. That's how we arrived at 3 stars for today's visit. Some of the 'issues'CAN be rectified. This COULD be a 4 star coffeehouse. Staff are pleasant and trying, coffee was really tasty. So in future...possibly.. if,,, if... Interested enough to return... Polite and friendly staff. It's my go to place for coffee and to get some work done. Cafe is clean, quite, and has good vibes. They have great options for coffee and tea. Me and my husband like their latte, espresso macchiato and fresh brewed coffee, roobibod latte. My absolute favorite is Belgian Mocha - dark chocolate. Must try!! read more

I was going to order their breakfast bagel but unfortunately it had bacon in it; the manager/owners said she would make me it fresh without bacon and I just want to say, if you're ever in the area and really want to be taken care of, give this location a visit! Last Tuesday I went to this place and I bought a canadiano and started to reading my book. After 2 hours one guy (he said I am manager and owner!!) came to my seat he tried to take my coffee (I did not finish it) and he said I need to finish my coffee in 2 minuets and leave because here isn't a library and I can go a library to reading my book. There was lot of empty chairs and there was NO any sign to show I couldn't sit on that chair. He was very rude and disrespectful. I told him i will complaint to head office of waves Coffee House and he said you can do whatever you want because I am the owner and I bought this business totally and I have any right. I didn't do any inappropriate things, I didn't smoke or ....they can check the security cameras.I am still in shock for what happened. read more

An oddly located Waves at a strip mall off Lougheed and Westwood, Waves Coffee House offers dynamic seating catered to both groups for casual work seating and intimate small groups in armchairs for quieter conversations. Coffee bar is well appointed with solid surface counter and brightly lit pastry case and menus. Coffee is usually of standard quality and price is a little above standard (more expensive than Starbucks). Occasionally a specific barista can pull a perfect espresso shot for Americano but that's a 1/10 chance so do not have high expectations in your next visit. Pastries tend to be not on the fresh side so after a few attempts I have learnt to stay away. At the window there are always a gang of fruit flies and ants getting stuck with the chemical bugs trap so it is super unsightly to sit there for anything longer than 5 minutes. Lighting wise it is bright white with no soft lighting so it is not a very relaxing place. Acoustic wise the place is quite quite perhaps because it is seldom very busy. Overall a nice alternative to Starbucks and I do find myself occasionally visit here just to break up the coffee routine a bit. read more

Great staff at this Waves Location makes it my favourite Coffee Shop in Downtown Port Coquitlam. It's nice to go to a coffee shop (or whatever the place may be) and seeing the same people. The staff is small, but consistent, and I love that. In fact, I value that a lot. They know who you are, you know them, and it makes your day that much better. The coffee is good. Better than Starbucks? Perhaps. The food choices are better than Starbucks if I had to compare. This reminds me more of the late 90's Bread Garden, which I used to visit quite a bit. Good sandwich options and breakfast options too. The good thing about Waves over Starbucks is their occasional sales. $2 latte is a great deal once in a while. Their Matcha Green Tea Latte is also better, as Starbucks doesn't have this option. Starbucks may be a larger chain with a Points System, but you can still save a lot of money going to Waves when you take advantage of their frequent sale offerings. This place is a recommend. The staff are what makes it better than the average coffee shops. read more

Very nice coffee shop, right in the heart of Poco at Shaughnessy and McAllister. Free internet access, lots of parking, friendly staff. The usual range of coffees, lattes, caps and fraps. A wide assortment of cakes and treats, all very scrumptious. The only thing lacking was their tea in my opinion. They have a wide selection of teas, but none of them made a proper cup'o'tea. I let mine sit for 10 minutes and it was still not even close to strong enough for me. If you are a coffee shop you should know how to make a proper cup of tea in my opinion. Boiling hot water poured over the teabag in ceramic pot or mug (mini brown betty teapot works the best) is the traditional Canadian way. Every Tuesday nights they have an open mic for local musicians and talent, which is a lot of fun and very entertaining. The atmosphere is fantastic, lots of seats yet lots of elbow room. From the comfortable couch chairs, to the alternative milk options (soy, almond and coconut), to the amazing baristas, this waves location is a reliable place to come and relax. Most chain coffee shops come with the headache of long lineups and overcrowding, but Waves seems to maintain a good balance of a lively atmosphere and a certain level of serenity. And I must say, their lattes are better than other chain coffee shops in the area, by far! Definitely worth a visit. read more

For the short stay I had in Poco, I *loved* dropping by this Waves for my study sessions! Everyone was extremely friendly, their paninis were absolutely delicious (to the point that I almost bought a sandwich grill and bought them to try to determine exactly what they put into them...), and they have really good drip coffee. I've tried their Chai Lattes in hopes that it would taste like the ones in Sweden at Wayne's (which, oddly enough, looks EXTREMELY similar to Wave's and even has the same coloring for the font), but it just wasn't the same. I've yet to find a chai latte that's good here in Vancouver, but it was definitely better than the ones at Starbucks either way. If I had to choose, I would come to Waves every day... if only there was one closer to campus. read more

Ended up here by accident. Was going to have lunch across the street at the little Thai place but the lineup was too long. I was so hungry I could of eaten the a** out of a skunk. Best hot chocolate ever! They use real chocolate. Cannot comoare with starbucks blenz tim hortons. They have a nice relaxing atmosohere with the sofas. However customer service is pretty bad in the evenings. Gotta wait for the cashier to actually show up, workers are more focused on their talk rather than a customer who wants to order a drink, their posture and mood is kind of drowning. read more

I used to be a regular customer. Mon - Fri I used to go there. I've heard many bad stories about them through my co-workers, but nothing had happened to me so I continued going there. One day muffin I bought from them had a mold, so went back right away like within a minute to return it. The owner was there and she didn't apologize or surprised. Only thing she said was all muffins were fresh out of freezer and just staring at me. Fresh out of freezer, lol Then why didn't she even wonder why muffin had a mold???? Why didn't she go check their freezer???? I'm sure they don't follow the guidelines and cheat all the time with expiry date. That explains why she didn't even apologize, check if other muffins were ok, or check on all the food in freezer!!!! Be careful, everybody!!!!! Don't trust their food!!!! I really like the atmosphere of this Waves. We occasionally have our strata meetings here and they can easily seat a crowd of 8-10 no problem.. It's a nice alternative to Starbucks across the street and pretty good coffee too! read more

This is my one of my favourite coffee shops. It's very big and it's perfect for studying or doing homework. Waves was the first place that I tried an iced chai tea latte and I've yet to find one that's better than the one from here! They also have delicious london fogs and I definitely recommend buying one from here. They have good food that's a little on the expensive side but I usually get a bagel because it's pretty cheap. This is a great place to go for studying (free wifi, big tables, outlets, not noisy). Love their desserts, sandwiches, soups, and lattes. This is a large cafe and the ambience is nicer than Starbucks. Street parking is free or you can park in the large parking lot in the back if you plan on staying long. I highly recommend you NEVER give this waves location business. The manager is rude and treats his employees like crap. He is abusive and says very inappropriate comments to them. He is racist towards customers and likes to go on smoke breaks every 20 mins. then he proceeds to NOT wash his hands after smoking and makes coffee. He purposely serves stale food and is a complete asshole. Go to Starbucks across the street instead!! read more

They re did the entire inside and the staff are so much nicer and friendly. its actually so much better vibe in there than it used to be. exactly how a coffee shop should be!
