Propaganda's vibe is somehow warm, surprising to me given its industrial stylings, and the amount of space reserved for, well, space - not seating. As a big foodie, I'd love to leave a review on the food/coffee but turns out I can't because the service turned me off so badly I left! The place looks nice and spacious inside. There were only a few folks inside as it was pretty early but there was a line for drinks. I asked the young woman working (not behind the till to be clear - I wasn't trying to jump the coffee line) the password for the washroom. I have IBS and unfortunately sometimes need to go urgently. I'm more than happy to buy a latte etc as is the deal most places - but she snapped and I do mean snapped at me PAY FIRST. Her tone and expression was rough and I thought ok maybe she's having a rough morning even though it's only 9 and I can't imagine what's happened first thing to make her so cranky already. I said ok. No problem but I need to go to the washroom urgently. And she said again THERES A LINE. Ok. Thanks anyway. I've never seen someone so angry about working in a cafe. I've gone in the actual cafe and gotten ice cream on the go on two separate occasion. Both times the service has been very nice. Since the connected ice cream place just opened, the staff asked where I found out about it. The vibes in the cafe is very chill and hipster. The matcha ice cream is so yummy - I do recommend it! The flavour is good and not sweet. They have other flavours (including Asian-inspired ones) as well as cups with extra toppings. I'd come back to try something else. I had just one cardamom cookie when I came in. They're very small and more expensive for one but you could get 3 for $5. read more

Great spot to rest and recharge if you're visiting Chinatown. I decided to check out this coffee shop after eating lunch nearby. I tried the iced Americano and my wife got the latte and it was alright--nothing mind-blowing but smooth and refreshing enough. Definitely better than some places, though it still felt a bit watered down for our taste. The space itself is comfortable, with enough seating to settle in and relax. We stopped by Propaganda Coffee on the whim while walking by last Friday afternoon because I wanted another coffee. They don't roast their own beans, but they do get beans from various roasters. I love that they have a big selection of pour over coffee here! The server was pretty nice and helpful when I asked them for recommendations. I wanted something fruity and a bit crazy/different and they recommended a Colombian light roast (I think) that had a watermelon tasting note. Overall, the pour over was quite good and once it cooled down, it had a fruity sweetness that wasn't overly acidic. It also wasn't bitter, so the water temp they used was perfect. I was pretty impressed with the coffee here and my friend enjoyed his Nitro Cold Brew, too! However, it was a bit odd that it had ice cubes in it. I would recommend Propaganda Coffee if you're in the area and wanting a black coffee! read more

A quiet subtle coffee shop gem in the main areas of Chinatown that serves modern pastries and coffee. The shop was modern for what its areas that looks so abandoned (sad...) they don't look to make their own beans, but sell various coffee beans by others. Staff was very courteous, kept their chatting to a minimum so it was a great shop to work or just gather your thoughts if you're in the area. The Drinks: Pour Over - Monogram Costa Rica El Pilon wasn't anything specifically unique but sure beats Starbucks! $7 CAD was a bit steep. barrel-aged Cold Brew 4oz $6 CAD - it was strong and definitely had a unique flavor to it that was quite interesting - however I wouldn't say it was worth that price when they have nitro for $5.25. read more

I came in for a coffee yesterday and it was not a good experience. My wife wanted a chai latte and the cashier informed us they ran out of chai. So my wife ordered a different drink. When the drinks were called, my wife's drink was not how she ordered it, in that they made it half caffeine for some reason. My first time visiting this shop gave me a pleasant and relaxing experience. When you walk in, the inside is quant and refreshing. Instrumentals play in the background and the ambience of the place is casual. Well-kept with good amount of table space. When ordering my snack and drink, the staff were attentive and polite. I would actually give the baked goods and small bites a try, specifically the Brown Butter Chocolate Cookie. The cookie is more similar to a sugar cookie with underlaying tones of chocolate with near-perfect texture. The drinks were good and similar to other prices for a coffee shop. A big slip for them since I first started coming here when they first opened. Lately, the coffee and tea seem mediocre at best. They're polite but not really conversational, and I don't mean their language abilibity but just personality, even though they're mostly either Japanese or Korean. They just don't smile a lot. Good article and this place was on the list so I'll breakdown the review into 2 parts: the coffee and the service COFFEE 4.2 stars I was super excited about reading the reviews of this place from the above mentioned article so I tried BOTH the pour over and the espresso. For the pour over I got The Ethiopia Banko Gotti which was excellent, well brewed and as expected wonderful black coffee. For the espresso I got monogram roaster Columbian ordinez. That was interesting because the initial impact was bitterness but quickly dissolved into a interesting taste, meaning, unlike other espressos I've had that's just bitter all the way, this bitterness was only at the initial sip and the finish was not bitter. can't say I was impressed, but I was hesitant to get Colombian because Central American coffee is just aren't for me. SERVICE AND VIBE 2.95 stars So I arrived at precisely 9 AM when they opened. After reading such rave reviews, I was excited to chat with the barista hoping it would be someone else who is passionate about.coffee. This is where it got disappointing quickly. The woman that took my order was so soft-spoken to the point where I had difficulty understanding her and didn't really seem interested in talking about about the coffee when I was asking for suggestions. Also, I was on foot and it was raining so it's possible when I first entered the shop, I looked like many of the homeless people that populate this neighborhood (given my raincoat and hoodie LOLs and hence the greeting understandably "tolerant". I can certainly understand having a business that is so close to an unfortunate population however, it was a disappointing greeting and interaction even after I disclosed that I'm a tourist from California and had red good things about this place. I ordered an iced chai and a matcha cookie! When I visited it was super hot so I enjoyed both the drink and the cookie-and they were perfect. The iced chai was sweet but good chai flavour and the cookie had a nice crunch. The cookie also had good matcha flavour but not too overwhelming that you can't taste anything else. I feel like they have a "high standard" of making their coffee, which is cool, but I guess I'm way simple and just like a cup of black coffee (maybe iced once in a while). Pros: -Simple Menu, they definitely specialize in coffee. Haha -Super clean!! Love minimalist places because it's usually so clean! -I tried the Apple Pear Tart, that was super tasty and the patty was flaky!! I'm liking these hipster coffee places that are popping up all over Chinatown. Great decor, relaxed feel, and most importantly, good coffee. Parking is available on the side streets. The place is somewhat bare bones, but looks very clean. Painted metal chairs are a bit hard, but I guess it goes along with the style. The place can honestly use a few more tables, but it's also nice to be in a place that isnt' Staff were friendly, and were able to help us choose our coffees. One really nice touch that I haven't seen elsewhere is that they provide sparkling water for free on top of regular tap water. Special mention, as not everyone in a group likes coffee. The coffee here is pretty good. None of that burnt or acidic taste that plagues so many other places. My friends and I also shared a peanut butter cookie. Nice and moist, which also means it's totally deadly. Definitely great place to pass an afternoon with friends. Recommended. read more

Found this coffee shop on Yelp after a quick lunch around Main St. I had to get some work done before an event and popped in here to grab a pick me up and work on my laptop for an hour or two. This coffee shop is bigger than most in the area. There's a lot of open space that is filled with communal tables, lounge chairs and solo tables. Perfect if you're looking to meet a few friends or get some work done. I ordered an iced vanilla almond milk latte, and it was absolutely delicious. I don't like my lattes too sweet and this one wasn't at all. Every time I took a sip from my coffee I smelled hints of vanilla, which I've never really experienced with other coffees before. I know, I know, that's a bit weird. They offer small treats like muffins, scones and croissants if you're hungry. But this is definitely a more snack and work or snack and hang out kind of place. Overall, great coffee shop along Main with one of the yummiest vanilla almond milk lattes I've had in the city. read more

It is definitely a neighbourhood joint, full of hipsters and media types talking loudly about 'projects'. Sometimes it's empty, sometimes so full you can't get a seat. No way of knowing. The staff are a bit too cool for school and don't expect a warm greeting or great service. That's not the vibe. I imagine if you asked for any alterations to your order you'd be met with disdainful incredulity. My husband once asked for cutlery to eat a ham and cheese pastry only to be told that they didn't have any. When he asked for it to be warned they just said no. On the upside, I've never had a bad coffee here. Excellent, consistent standards. Limited menu for drinks and baking, but everything I've had was excellent. I go to coffee shops for the coffee, so I can live with the dubious attempts at service, but I imagine for others that it would be unacceptable. read more

**COVID-19 REOPENING REVIEW** The Hubs and I decided to give this place a try. As per our usual testing, we ordered a cappuccino to compare. With COVID, this place allow take out only, which means the drinks are all offered in a sad paper cup. The cappuccino set us back $4+tax. Neither of us have ever ordered a cappuccino that came this tiny. It felt like (and it was done) with the blink of an eye. My hands are small and this cup made me feel like Shaq. Wow. Literally, can be gone in 30 seconds. Sadly, the taste of coffee is quite nice, but overwhelmed by the large amount of milk that rendered it more of a latte than a cappuccino. This is my second time coming to this coffee shop located in Chinatown. I came here a couple of years ago and my experience was nice, as I remember. I decided to stop by today, since it's been awhile. I am quite disappointed I must say. I found a table and it was dirty. I looked around and the baristas were just chatting away. I politely asked for the table to be wiped down and the barista gave me a rag. It caught me off guard as I have never experienced this before. I ordered an iced coffee, the barista proceeded to tell me they did not have ice.. I ordered a regular drip coffee instead and to be honest, it tastes like acidic tomato juice. My friend ordered a green tea, which they also did not have.. I will not be coming back and also, do not recommend. I love the Propeganda brand. Their neutral and natural toned styling. Slightly hip and hipster but not nauseatingly so. It's conservative squared proportions are welcome and cosmopolitan. Coffee isn't bad either !! Well, it's pretty good. This location gives me tons of memories from the 70's to the 90's when I used to hang out in the Chinatown area now and then visiting my dads medical office. Why? Well it used to be part of a butcher shop and fish shop. My dad and I would come by after work to get scraps to make dog and cat food for the pets at home. The chit chatter of Cantonese in these local shops is slowly dying away. I came in impressed by this place. Soft jazz music, the typical coffee shop echo in the background. It's all so inviting and any traces of those days gone by are nonexistent. No fish smell no meat scraps on the floor. Wow. There's no more Chinatown. Ahhhh but there is. It's just different. Great coffee and the guys here are friendly. Nice quiet space that you could read a book or do some work or have a meeting. Good music in the background creates a nice ambience. I ordered an Americano and croissant. It was pretty good the croissant was pleasantly rally with many many layers for only $3. As another reviewer noted, I think this place is better value for your dollar and the pastries are better. They make the pastries in house too! Beautiful gem in Chinatown. My mom and I had time to kill and stumbled upon this spot. It started to snow and we popped into Propaganda for hot coffee. I got an Americano and my mom a Latte and both were absolutely delicious. Creamiest latte ever. We had a great time chatting and checking out their designer magazines.
