This is a huge park with everything. There are tennis courts, full length fenced in basketball courts, baseball fields, huge fields. They playgrounds are a little old, but there are 3 big structures right next to each other. There is an area that is fenced in geared more toward toddlers, another structure with a ship theme, and a bigger structure with lots of bridges to run across.  Only the biggest structure is well shaded by the Redwoods. There's tons of sandpits everywhere. Nice huge park that is easy for social distancing! read more

It's been 90+ degrees for seven consecutive days in Sunnyvale. Want to go swimming at a public pool in Sunnyvale? No way Jose. Try Santa Clara Swim Center in Santa Clara or Rengstorff Park in Mountain View. Washington Park used to have a great pool for summer swimming, and Fremont High School has an Olympic size pool, but is closed along with all school facilities. The pool at Washington Park was demolished in October. The pandemic halted all construction on the new pool center for three months, making any public swimming in 2020 as likely as Trump reading the 61 page Obama pandemic playbook. They do have an extensive playground for the kids to play, but is also closed with yellow tape due to the pandemic. No team play on the baseball fields for the same reason. Park has basketball courts next to 2 tennis courts. Tennis singles allowed, but basketball not allowed. Hasn't stopped people from playing basketball. Never played tennis here, as you ever try play next to a basketball game in progress? Lot of animation, shouting, and physical contact in basketball, a real distraction from the tennis game separated by a fence. Besides the basketball court is made the same length of tennis courts, 78 feet, compared to 94 feet in a standard basketball court. The three point line and half court line are right on top of each other. No swimming, no baseball, no basketball, no playground equipment playing. Life during the pandemic. They do have a monument with a 57 mm anti tank gun and a list of those Sunnyvale combat soldiers who gave their lives in WW2. Some things are more important than playing in the park. If you find an open public swimming pool, the reopening rules require one household for each 300 square feet of surface water with reserved staggered entry. The change room will be closed due to pandemic restrictions. You will have to change clothes in your car, or leave a wet seat the next time you sit down! read more

This is a review about Washington Park, from an out-of-town visitor. My job sent me into Sunnyvale today, and happen to find this park. This is a nice park. It has impressive Redwood trees, spacious lawn, baseball field, basketball courts, and playground. Who knows what else, I didn't see it all. The purpose of a city park is to enhance the physical and mental health of it's visitors. To exercise and play. Or relax and rest. The calming effects of being among natural surroundings. A nice city park can do these things. I really like those redwood trees! read more

This is a great park. We spent our Sunday afternoon here barbecuing. There is plenty of shade and everything is convenient. The tennis & basketball courts, playgrounds, picnic area, baseball field, grass area and restroom is close to one another and within walking distance. This is our new park. My family and I like Las Palmas but since the last time we were there and the water was not turned on for the kids for whatever reason... This review is for Washington Park Pool! This is the best community pool in Sunnyvale. My son has been swimming here since he was 8 months old. He is now almost 10. This pool is great for toddlers up to adults. Kids admission is $3 Adults is $4 You can sign up for lessons with the city of Sunnyvale. It has a huge shallow section great for the little one's to splash around in. It goes from 2 feet to 9 feet. In order to cross the line into the deep end the lifeguards make you take a swim test. You have to swim the width of the pool there and back freestyle, then jump into the deep end and tread water for 1 minute. If you pass then you can go in the deep end or off the diving board. If the deep end is open then you may not use the diving board. If the diving board is open then you may not use the deep end, unless it is to jump off the diving board. This is for safety so no one jumps on anyone. The guards here are all very nice and really do keep an eye on the pool. Note to parents: Go in with your children! It is your responsibility to watch them, not the guards. read more

This is a lovely park with a pool, picnic areas, baseball field and a very large play structure. There are both sunny and shady places. Even on a Monday afternoon, there were people picnicking, walking their dogs, enjoying watching their children play and just enjoying the awesome weather. This is a lovely park, just a couple of blocks from the library and city services complex. It has many large oak trees and well-cared-for benches. It's a perfect place to unwind and let the sun hit your face gently. I took my studying to this park for awhile today and sat at the picnic tables which were shaded by a huge oak tree. The kiddos played in the distance and a squirrel zipped back and forth looking for oak acorns. This is exactly where those three children who were playing tag and hitting themselves at the restaurant I ate lunch should have been! read more

Usually not particularly crowded during the weekdays so it's great for taking a break from the office and going for a walk (it's a little over a mile if you go around twice). This local park is great for many different purposes. 1) I go here with friends to play tennis because they have two courts. 2) there is a basketball court. 3) lots of grass to play ball sports. 4) there is a baseball diamond for little league. 5) there are picnic tables and grills for parties. In these areas you can even drink alcohol. 6) there is a playground for small children. This park is always very clean. They have bathrooms. Great safe location. Starbucks nearby ;) read more

Great park. It has a lot of trees and shades, which is perfect for hot summer days. It is also good for tennis and baseball with the kids. The playground is great for the kids. My kids used to like the little kids area when they were younger. It has a lot of open space to play other things with the kids if you want to. It could use more baths and some water feature. It is also home to some homeless, but they stay far away for kids, and I am always with my kids when I go there anyway, so really o bother for us, and never hear anything bad. The park is always very populated and my children tend to play a lot with new kids that. Just happen to drop by with their parents. Nice ! read more

I'm sure there are other things that are nice about the park, and there will be bugs because it's outside, but this one has a BAAAAAAD infestation of caterpillars. They're everywhere, you can't sit down without getting 20 on you every minute. Even the kids were complaining. It's just an awful park to watch your kids baseball game at. I live a block away from the park and I tend to use it quite often to walk the dogs or for my workouts. The grounds are very well kept and hardly ever have I seen any "questionable activities." This is a family neighborhood and you'll see lots of families (duh), pet owns and sport teams using the grounds. I do wish at night, especially during the winter months they kept the lights on longer. It's incredibly hard and a bit scary to run in the dark. The park has a few mid-size barbequing areas and I've never seen them fully booked, even at the peak of summer. However, I do believe you have to call Sunnyvale's park and recreations to get it reserved. During the summer times the swimming pool it's packed and very lively. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I haven't been able to participate in the summer pool events. I enjoy seeing all the pet owners walk the dogs around the park and for the most part everyone keeps their dog on a leash. So don't be that guy!! Quite surprising to see all the responsible owners out there picking up after their dog, thank you! I really wish Sunnyvale left a chunk of the grounds to the dogs but ohhh well... You can also go to Las Palmas to enjoy the dog park there. The playground is super spacious, lots of slides, monkey bars and swings. There's also 2 baseball grounds (forgive my terminology, not sure if this is the correct descriptions) that are very well kept. There's a small scale ground mainly used for little leagues and large size ground for adults. Also, there are 2 basketball courts that are ALWAYS full and 4 tennis courts that are also ALWAYS full. - Good luck there! Really wish the city had some sport related events at the park for the neighborhood to enjoy! read more

Played tennis this afternoon with my fiancee, it was great because no one was there so we had all the space to ourselves! We were only there from 1:30-2:30 so maybe it is busier in the evening. There are two tennis courts here, free to play, no reservations but there is a space to put your racquet in the front to call dibs on the next court if it is busy. One hour of play at a time so that's nice if you had to wait. There were a couple of guys playing basketball but two basketball courts so lots of space there, too! Tons of kids at the playground and people walking their dogs. A very nice park! read more

Good thing is the tennis & basketball courts, playgrounds, picnic area, baseball field, grass area and restroom are close to one another and within walking distance. I like the shade area and sand area where you can seat and watch the little ones easily. There is enough parking in the park and streets. Popularity means usually it gets crowded and you have to wait for some play structures like swings. However you have more than enough activities for little ones to play while waiting. read more

There is plenty to do at this park, including a swimming pool, tennis courts and a little league pitch. However I wasn't too happy about the some of the people hanging around the kids play area who made me feel fairly unsafe, though if you sit under the trees on the other side of the park near the pool the space is wonderful. Wonderful shaded areas, loads of established trees and gardens edging the walk ways and plenty of spots to picnic under the trees or in the sun. read more

This park is perfect for families, day/night strolls, softball/baseball games, volleyball, bocce ball, basically anything that involves balls catching some air. Washington park has a great playground for kids of all ages and sizes. My family rented out a picnic site and absolutely loved it. we've held our annual family picnic at over 20 picnic sites around the Bay Area and we unanimously agree that Washington Park is the place to beat. nothing beats the shade, convenience, and boundless amenities this place has to offer. Beautiful park in a quaint community. We've been regulars here for over 10yrs and have seen an huge increase in visitor numbers. Back in the day...this park would have received only one star from me. My Grandmother, God bless her soul, lived near this park before the home homes nearby sold for a million plus. When my parents couldn't stand me any longer, off to Grandma's they would ship me. Now one would think a grandmother would love to see her grandson but that was obviously not the case with me as off to the park she would send me. I guess Grandma hadn't heard about all the kidnappers in the paper; although, I have no idea why not as she read the National Enquirer regularly. Perhaps, she wanted me to be reformed? Back then the park had a couple of swings, some horrible play equipment, and grass and the ever present squirrels and to make things even more entertaining a nice contingent of homeless people. I don't have anything against the homeless but Grandma what were you thinking? Fast forward to the present: this place has changed! Now there are still lots of squirrels and they look exactly the same as the ones I remember with bushy tails and an attitude. Don't feed them by the way as they will then annoy the %^@ out of you begging for more food. If you are afraid of squirrels, definitely do not come here. There is still abundant grass and I wonder how in the midst of a drought it remains so green when my lawn is dead. The real change is the playground; it has been redone! There are better slides, an area for the little ones where they can be fenced in and not run amongst the older little hellions hanging from the play structures, people were having picnics, chasing after their children, yelling at the children when they couldn't catch the little buggers, eating, sunning, playing baseball and in general having a great time. The atmosphere is completely different from back in the day. My daughter had a great time, I could tell her about the value of investing in real estate, and she begs to go back. The only thing I would wish is that there was a bit more shade where the little ones play. We need to get on board as many other countries who provide canopies under which our sun sensitive children can play. read more

My favorite park for playgrounds. For the smallest set, in the fenced-in sand and squishy surface area: an age 3+ structure with plastic slides (but usable for advanced crawlers with close parent supervision), a slightly bigger structure near a water faucet, a small climbing structure, infant swings and rockers. Just outside that, a bigger ship-themed structure and beyond, structures for bigger kids. read more

This park has been here for the longest time. I like it but wished there was more shade, especially in the baby toddler area. It can get quite hot and the baby swing, slides, and sand can burn little tushies on hot days. Also hands for those that are crawling around. There's also garbage and food wrappers in the sand. Geez people, clean up after yourselves! Maybe put a garbage can inside the gated area so it won't be such a hassle to go around to throw it away. This park is best for sports tennis/basketball/baseball. They have a lot of options along with a nice kids play area. Also compared to other parks they have a lot of benches so you can have picnic here without worrying about the availability of the benches. The only thing that I did not like about this park when compared to the other parks in sunnyvale is that it was not cleaner. I would prefer this for picnic but not for walking. It is busier park as it is next to Startford school and is comparatively smaller park. read more

A fantastic park only two blocks from me I didn't appreciate until I became a dog owner. Well maintained with a wide variety of trees and plants, a nice playground, swimming pool, nice walking paths, lots of open space, tennis courts, basketball courts. At the right time of year the north corner can look like a semi-tropical garden, or can be a kaleidoscope of fall colors. Reasonably well lit at night - there are typically at least a few people doing walks until at least midnight. Only downside - notice they use pesticides to control the weeds. read more
