We went to Baylands Park Trail for a cross country race. Plenty parking available. Handicap parking is easily accessible. Lush green grass with beautiful trees, trails and benches. Be advised that a lot of the benches have spider webs and moss so be prepared to wear jeans that you can throw in the wash! Pro: Bathrooms! Not just port u potties. This park also has dirt trails for running XC that is flat with rolling hills. Overall, this is a beautiful venue for a cross country race! read more

What I really like about this trail is that you can access it from several locations. If you park by the picnic area, it connects along the fence separating the paved trail from Hwy 237. That's probably the most frequented area. Lots of grass, picnic areas, the boardwalk out into the marsh. If you're a bit more ambitious, you can get to it from the Twin Creeks softball field area. Go out in the gravel lot, and way in the back you can cut through the high grass to link up with the far side lawn. So parents, if you're there for the endless weekend tournaments, here's your getaway. During the week, a lot of folks walk or bike from the Marvell access trail way on the other end. I guess its not really Marvell. You access it from the edge of their campus, but its not like they open the parking lot to the public. Very strict security. But you can walk along the river trail which is nice. Finally, you can go under the 237 bridge through a secret opening in the fence. It connects to Alviso blvd. Can go during rains, because the channel gets flooded or at least muddy. But during dry times, it helps if you're trying to make a loop of your walk! read more

How lucky are we to live in an area where we have so many amazing trails! Baylands trail is awesome. Big sky and beautiful views! It was pleasant weather today and it was a wonderful hike, I can see this being a challenge in the summer since there isn't any shade. There's plenty of parking and it was reasonably busy. The one interesting thing was seeing people race drones which was fun to watch. However, I can see this being a safety hazard since it is so close to the children's park and there were kids running around on the field close to the speeding drones. Something for the park officials to consider and perhaps move the drones or find another solution. read more

Baylands Park Trail is special to us because we decided to do a self-operated family photo shoot here (family phot shoot photos not included yet, sorry!). Parking is pretty easy. Across from the parking lot you will start the trail by walking past a few grassy areas, and eventually you will reach the section where the bay is located. The boardwalks that stretch across the bay are definitely the most spectacular parts of the trail. If you arrive from 3-5 pm, the lighting here shows extremely well on the cameras. A few things to note before coming here: some people bring their drones/mini plane devices here, which can be pretty noisy. If you can get over this, the experience is quite good. Also, on hot days, there may be a seawater "stench" near the bay. Besides these points, a nice spot for regular hikes or bicycling. Kid friendly too! read more

Baylands Park has some beautiful eucalyptus trees. There is a big meadow behind the play structures. This area can get windy. I've seen many parents come with their kids for kite flying. It is also good for picnics as the park has put in plenty of tables and barbeque pits. Maintenance crew has kept the restrooms clean although they are now closed due to COVID. In recent years, it has begun to get quite noisy with drones buzzing through their race course. I understand that enthusiasts would want some open space to practice their drone skill but the location seems just a little too close to the nature preserve. Like some fellow Yelpers have mentioned, Baylands Park can get pretty barren in the off season. The entrance is free for local residents in the summer. Other than that, it is open for the public to enjoy. read more

I love coming here for a quick jog or walk while listening to music on my headphones. It's definitely a great place to come for relaxing in the grass or taking a walk with your friends. When I lived near the peninsula I ran here and rode my bicycle for cardio. It gets pretty hot and dry, not that I like it, but It's pretty easy to focus on goals in open space. Some of the near by tech companies have picnics and lucnhes here pre covid obvi and lots of family and kids hangout learning how to walk and ride bikes. Handstands and all sorts of other hobbies! A park within a preserve. Baylands Park is a Sunnyvale treasure. This 70-acre park is located within a preserve, where an additional 105 acres of wetlands are protected from development. The park features several picnic areas, open grassy space, and a playground. In addition to small first-come, first-served picnic sites, there are reservable picnic areas accommodating as many as 325 people. The park is drone-friendly, and the whizzing of drones over the lawn is frequently heard. There are three pairs of restrooms scattered about, but one pair seems to be perpetually closed. The facilities have seen better days. To the north, the preserve has a few dirt trails and a couple observation platforms that look out into the undeveloped wetlands, which are dry during the non-raining months. When there's water though, this place is quite the sight. The Baylands Trail is particularly scenic, going past a monument, through a grove of trees, and finally to a bridge with a platform at the end. Entry into the park is $6 per vehicle for most of the year, and free from November to February. The park can get crowded when there are gatherings, so with all the money this place collects, they should be able to better maintain the facilities! read more

Parallel to the 237 freeway, you will feel like somewhere else, especially if you go on a Sunday afternoon, sunny and warm, you will find only a very few riders around. I found this place one day visiting the hotel Aloft, super modern and different at the end of Great America Parkway and before you are in Alviso land. I was curious to see the amount of water (from above of the hill) but could not see the entrance of the trail for bikers, until one day driving by that freeway saw other cyclists and also saw the sign. I really liked the calm and contemplating simple things of nature, like wild flowers and butterflies. I tried to avoid the smell of the water...after all I think this is kind of a sewage for San Jose, so visualizing that this is a beautiful 'lake' gives your ride another dimension. Don't forget to stop at the explanatory posters/signs depicting the history of canning and fishing industry in Alviso, back in the day. Always good to know more things about the area we live, right? read more

I arrived around 11:30am, paid $6 for the day, and easily found parking. The grounds are well maintained as are the restrooms (there are three). We ate at one of the picnic areas that was totally empty. The land is quite spacious, so I didn't feel crowded at all as I saw several people bike riding, picnicking, and walking around. read more

Danger: DUCK Hunters are not considerate in high season through winter so venture out in the wetlands at your own risk. Seriously, one pointed his gun directly at me while on a bike and then raised it higher in sky to take down a duck above my head. It was so scary!!!!! Of course no game wardens anywhere to be found. Otherwise the Baylands park is so expansive and quite pretty with lots of free space for remote airplanes, shade trees for picnics,etc. my favorite is two very large bike loops that venture into the marsh areas where you will see a ton of water fowl . You can head far north for easy 25 mile trip including the return. Pedestrians only heavy in spots. read more

Found this place looking for new lunch break walk spots near work. It's a lovely serene semi-secluded get-away from society that doesn't require much of a drive to get to. It was a beautiful grey day with rain in the sky. We walked under trees and by marshland, and greeted a rabbit and some birds. A drone flew overhead, we waved, it hovered. There's this cute rolling walk called the Wave Walk, and some more path yet to explore. Ample parking which is free in the winter (Nov-Feb?). Not sure if I'd feel as positively if I had to pay for parking, but I'm guessing it looks a lot more colorful in the spring, so maybe worth a visit. Will definitely be back for some more introspective walks! read more

Besides being a good spot for an evening stroll or an easy hike, this place is also a great location for small group gatherings in a socially distanced manner during the pandemic. I've been here for multiple group events (birthday parties as well as baby showers) during the pandemic and was fairly impressed to see the amount of space available. read more

It was my third time going to Baylands park but I was at the bbq spot. I didn't walk the whole park. I finally got the chance to walk 90% of the park because I've played this famous game, Pokemon Go. Pokémon go has players explore locations in search of Pokémon. I was there where Niantic the gaming company moved Pokémon nests to locations which players frequent to collect a # is Pokémon to evolve to the next stage of its evolution. I spent five hours in one day during my vacation walking the park and another day for three hours. I met my collection and evolved my Pokémon. I'll return for a couple more times to stock up to power up the evolved Pokémon. The game gave me the opportunity to explore the park and enjoyed the fresh air and wide open space. The weather was perfect.i recommend this place to people walking, jogging, bicyclying and barbecuing. read more

I absolutely love this park! I've recently taken up kite flying on my days off and boy is this park perfect to do that! It's right at the end of the bay and always has wind. Once my kite is up I never have to worry about it coming down! The open grassy area is perfect since there aren't many trees! And there's also a ton of space to fly a drone. Unfortunately my last visit to this park was a let down. I'm not sure if it just because the off season or the park not having time to clean up after. The recent winter storms, this park is in pretty bad shape. While I normally just park in the parking lot and use the park to access the Bay Trail to go for runs, a bathroom emergency had me and my friend having to walk through the park to get back to my car. The park was a wreck, with tree debris all over the place. The trails were rutted were water had been flowing and caused me to trip (luckily it wasn't serious) The play structures and at least one of the bathrooms were closed off. The park needs some TLC hopefully they will clean it up before the weather starts getting nicer. read more

Great place for a corporate offsite picnic. Easy booking through the city and caterers are familiar with the location or you can grill, if you're so inclined. Beer and wine are acceptable. Parking seems plentiful. Lots of open space for drones and frisbee or other games. Nice playground areas, walking/running trails and so forth. This is my absolute favorite park in the Southbay hands-down. Especially during the summers when it's melting hot in the city (SJ). Everyone I've witnessed here have been classy, respectful and adhere to higher standards than I've seen at some other parks. Also a good mix of different cultures. There is always a cool breeze from the water and - plenty of shade under the trees everywhere in the main park - Lots of paths for walking to biking and everything in between - a small playground for the kids - plenty of large group picnic areas with grills (electric and water available in this area too!) - clean restrooms - lots of parking - even a small garden and petting zoo - a large grassy open area for kites, drones, sports, cartwheels, etc. Bring sunscreen, water, and also a light jacket/sweater if you plan on sitting in the shade. read more

I regularly stop in here when I'm riding around the bay, and am always surprised that there isn't more going on here. It's often quite deserted, all but one of the bathrooms are shut and there aren't many walkways around the park... I'd love to see them do more with this beautiful space - hold some events here, or make more of the area for people to utilize. read more

I'm going to take some liberties and say that this is basically my backyard! (Okay, if not for the fact that the 237 is in between.) But in all seriousness, this park is amazingly close and that is something we are so appreciative of! This park is great because it is so multi-functional. There are plenty of picnic tables, a large grassy green for sports, a small recycled-water garden, an abandoned obstacles course that is fun to roam around, a boarded lookout with a gorgeous view, playgrounds, etc. Basically, there's something to suit your mood for the day. The space is immediately relaxing and is a great place for clearing your mind. We love it for after-dinner walks! read more
