Quoted me a low price for taking my non running car, then did not honor that price when they came to pick it up, for a ridiculous reason.

I submitted the required paperwork online and although they still ask for it during your appointment it was still a painless experience. They honored the quote they gave me online and I left with a check in under 2 hours.

I'm giving CarMax one star due to the loan payoff and settlement timeline, which was not clearly…read moreemphasized upfront. To be fair, I was given a check immediately at the time of sale. The issue is the loan payoff process, which can take up to 15 business days on CarMax's side before funds are even sent. That does not include additional mail time or processing time by your bank or credit union. There is also no ACH or wire option to speed this up. In practice, this means the loan may not be cleared for three to four weeks. If you're selling a car specifically to clear a loan so you can qualify for another one, this delay can directly impact financing. You may also need to make additional loan payments out of pocket while waiting for reimbursement. While the extended timeline is mentioned in the fine print, it was described in person as taking "a few days," and the full impact of the payoff timing was not clearly called out. That difference matters when real financial decisions depend on it. The staff were polite and professional, but the lack of clear emphasis around the payoff process creates unnecessary risk for customers. My advice: read the fine print carefully and plan for a much longer timeline than what is suggested verbally.

Went in looking for a car for my mom, the owner overheard and told the sales rep he does the same…read morefor his mom and to make sure to "take care of me". I ended up with a 2012 Honda fit that was completely rotten underneath with rust throughout the entire undercarriage. Please stay away from this place and go anywhere else. They were hounding me for a 5 star review for days, hoping I wouldn't notice the damage before I left a review. If you're looking for a safe vehicle, this is not the place to go.

I will never again do business with this dealership and do not recommend them. They sold me a car…read morethat never worked and spent more time in the shop than in my possession. The price of the car was also an absolute rip off considering how unreliable it was (over $32K PLUS the finance charge). They said there is a "one year warranty" as long as I brought it to THEIR shop on site which required a $100 copay each time and was there frequently. They would also guilt you for how you were only paying the copay and how they were eating the remaining cost of the fix (when they should've sold you a reliable car from the beginning). When I addressed my issues when the warranty was about to expire, they said they would have never told me that and I could have taken it to any technician of my choice, meaning I was lied right to my face. The technician on their site kept putting "band aid" fixes on my car for a full year and then when I took it to my own technician right as the warranty expired, the repairs were over $7K (including needing TWO catalytic converters). When I got these fixed through my own technician, a couple weeks later the car started jolting and shaking aggressively whenever the car accelerated ( something that happened a couple times but I had dismissed as something minor since it wasn't as aggressive) and I brought it directly to the manufacturer at the recommendation of my technician because this was in dangerous shape. This 2016 car had less than 100,000 miles on it and affected my ability to get to work frequently. The estimate cost for the fix was another $4500, so I turned it in directly to the manufacturer. I had the car for approximately 18 months and over $7K in the hole PLUS the remaining thousands I owe for the loan for a car I can that was unsafe and undriveable. NEVER again!

This dealer was great at getting my 2023 corvette in 4 months, 2 months sooner than expected, when…read moreall other dealers were telling me 12-18 months. I paid 9K over sticker to them so I could get the car that quickly ! Since I got the car at the end of August, it has been a nightmare. I ordered the car with the hash mark decals which unbeknownst to me are dealer applied. When I picked up the car, it looked like they were applied by a blind man ! no 2 decals (out of4) were positioned the same and had bubbles all over. I live on Long Island and the dealer is about 80 or so miles away in the boonies of N.J. (a 1 1/2 hour drive each way). I had to wait 3 weeks the first time to get a loaner car. unfortunately I had to cancel the first appointment on 9/12 due to unforeseen circumstances. The soonest they could give me another loaner was 10/11. I took the car back and was told that they were sending the car to a body shop that was expert at applying decals. After 2-3 weeks I was told the new decals were defective and didn't adhere properly (pure bullshit). So now they they had to redo the decals the third time. Both times the dealer had to redo the decals, it took weeks just for them to get the replacements or so they said. When the car was ready I went to pick it up only to find that they screwed it up again. All along I asked them to get me the decals so I could have someone on L.I. apply them and have the dealer pay them directly for the work. finally after the third time they agreed. I've been waiting now for 3 weeks and still haven't received the decals. This has been the worst customer service experience I have ever had. My salesman has been for the most part minimally responsive to my texts and calls. The sales manager that finally agreed to let me get the work done locally, gave me his direct phone # and promised to make this right, has not responded once to multiple calls and texts. Do business with this dealer at your own perril !!!!!!! Ken R. Disappointed customer

Looking back, we should have known something was off based on the price. He loved the car after the test drive, which made it even more disappointing. We currently own nine vehicles, so we understand how the process works -- and we made that clear. Suddenly, the price started climbing: $1,900 added for paying cash, $2,890 for "certification," $999 for LoJack, plus several other add-ons that pushed the total nearly $10,000 higher than expected. Then came the classic line: "We just found out someone else put a deposit on it and we're waiting on their financing. You can put $5,000 down to hold it if it falls through." We weren't buying it. I told him plainly that we knew what was going on, shook his hand, and we walked out. In the end, it turned into a valuable lesson for our son.
