What, am I the only Yelper to go here? Ward's pharmacy is close to my house. It's got a kinda weird vibe going on. There are always interesting characters in there. It's right were like 4 major bus lines converge. It's across the street from Mc Donald's and down the street from Wal-Mart and the blue line. I think that it has some of the best people watching in Long Beach . The staff is mostly friendly, but mostly inattentive. A lot of them are young kids. My favorite person on staff is Ian. Weare cool with each other because we have the same three letters for names. He likes to brag about his fights and I like to tell him that I am gonna run him over. It makes for good chatter. When dealing with this pharmacy, I think it is best if you just drop of you scrip and come back. It takes a little while for the items to get filled. I think that the standard wait time is an hour. My Doctor's office will call in things for me so I don't have to go in first. I think the wait times are drastically shorter at the end of the night., but I hardly ever wait anymore. Ward's used to have delivery service, but I think it was scrapped in favor if mailing the prescriptions out. I never take advantage because I am too embarrassed to say that I was too lazy to walk the 8 blocks it is from my house. If you do go on, make sure to check out the candy counter in the back, as well as the soda case in the corner. Ward's has some of the cheapest candy and cold soda around. (That's a throwback to my high school days) OH! I forgot! Don't steal! If you do, they will print out the surveillance video of you walking out the door with what ever it is you stole. I come here to get my medications here monthly. The staff is nice! It can get a little bit busy during some hours. One afternoon when I came in it seemed like everyone wanted to get their prescriptions filled! However, the staff handled the capacity very well. Did I mention the great prices?! I brought my dad here to get a rollator (4 wheel walker with seat) and one of the technicians..I think her name was Sabrina? She was very helpful and informative. Don't dismiss these guys out. Wards reminds me of the pharmacies when I was a kid. The staff and pharmacists are very knowledgeable, personable and friendly.....It"s nice to see the same staff here year after year. That says something. It's so refreshing to not get lost in the shuffle here. Like what happens at the chain pharmacies. I love the Mom & Pop kinda feel. I've never been treated so badly in my life. I went to this den of thieves because they were the only ones who had a medication that I needed in stock. It is a controlled medication so they had to first collect my personal info and then "research" me to find out what I don't know. (Keep in mind that this all started with a phone call at 9 a.m.) I was then told to call back after 11 a.m.to find out if I could come in to speak with the manager and she would decide if she would fill the script. When I called back at 11 a.m. I was asked about any other maintenance meds I'm taking and told that those prescriptions have to be transferred to their store or they wouldn't fill the new prescription. I agreed because I needed to get the new medication and we were coming up on a 3 day weekend and I knew it would be impossible to get this handled elsewhere. At 4 p.m. I show up at this hell hole with my new prescription to be filled, one to be refilled and all of my other meds that were to be TRANSFERRED ONLY. After waiting 35 mins I was told that I still had at least another 30 minutes to wait. I told them I would come back. which I did at 7 p.m. only to find out that they had filled the new one and refilled ALL OF THE OTHERS! All to the tune of $87.35 ($50 more than I needed to spend )! When I tried to explain to Frank The Fool that I only wanted to pick up 2 meds, he basically said "well just take them all somewhere else and have them filled". The smirk on his disgusting face told the whole story: He knew how difficult that would be. For all intents and purposes, he w as letting me kinsurancenow that he had me between a rock and a hard place. This is not all of the story, I didn't even touch on the parts where he accused me of lying about how I take my meds, and the fact that I was hospitalized for over 2 weeks of the month . I'm filing a complaint with my carrier and with Medicare because I want these people to know that I'm not going to be bullied by them. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS STORE. read more

What can I say? Wards Pharmacy is amazing! Especially our pharmacist John (Hi John) and their great staff- mostly Its not a bad thing- I say this because my Husband and I own a business and have staff and it is different when its family owned and when it's a corporation. When it's Family owned you have key trusted people who treat the business like it is their own and if that person is not there, or for whatever that reason, things may take a little longer- but they always deliver. This is why they have their "Wall of Shame" of all the unscrupulous people stealing- because the staff and owners care- because we as smaller business owners know the cost to run a business and having trusted staff. We always try to be three steps ahead of our medication for our chronic conditions. We try to get our Rx refills in advance from our providers, when there are zero refills, we call our providers, we email our offices and call in advance. In todays medical world you have to be proactive. You have to work with your providers and pharmacist to synchronize YOUR TREATMENT! It's your life, your condition- YOU have to take responsibility for those things, which includes insurance, co-payments and their limitations and exclusions. We switched to WARDS out of frustration from our previous pharmacy in the West Hollywood/Beverly Hills area- Yes, Wards may not be in Beverly Hills, but they also do not have "WARNING- PHAMACY ON PROBATION" etc etc. all over their walls in bright yellow and red and then decide to try to treat you like your to blame for their errors, employees stealing and providers neglect. So to the one person saying they called the Board on Wards--really? Before you try to ruin peoples business reflect on what YOU could have done to be more proactive. Yelp is a double-edged sword, but you have to realize what you are reviewing. If I am reviewing a pharmacy my concerns are that I don't have a drug interaction or reaction, that I receive the correct medication and that my pharmacy is not on the DEA's watch list. The fact that I have an awesome and informative pharmacist, staff that is great and know who we are and are treated with respect is a plus+++ I say the aforementioned because when you go and review a dentist the yelper reading should care about their treatment and care. Did they pull the correct tooth? Did I scream with pain? Was I hurt or injured? Do I have permanent nerve damage? Those are my concerns- NOT the parking, the magazines, the snippy receptionist or the variety of CD's for my viewing pleasure while laying on the massage chair in my Dental Spa - I am there for dental work. Therefore my review on Wards is about the Pharmacy and their Pharmacist and to that I say FIVE STARS!!! Awesome Job !! read more

The location is in DT Long Beach. It gets busy sometimes, but they also have free coffee sometimes and a tv to help pass the time. I like supporting mom and pop type places. Forget about Walgreens that always "runs out" of stuff and CVS doesn't care two licks about patients. read more

I popped in today, looking for some nail polish. I hadn't been here in years, but from what I recall it was a cozy little mom & pop pharmacy with nice gifts. Now it's pretty ghetto. They sell junk usually seen in a 99 cent store. They did have a few bottles of nail polish, but all of it was old and dusty and separating. I mean, ugly discontinued colors. And they weren't even on sale. I popped right back out again and got my NP fix at Walgreens across the street. read more

Terrible follow through. Don't track prescriptions and have no idea what their suppliers are doing. No controls over drugs that come on.

From the front desk, to the techs' (especially Sabrina and Candice) John and Nicole the Pharmacist, this Pharmacy is hand's down the best in Long Beach. Once I found them a couple of years ago, I never went back to a large chain. The personal, oh so helpful service is beyond expectation and exceeds all others. Remember everyone, it is usually the side of the doctor office or insurance not the Pharmacy. I cannot say enough about the wonderful, personal care and attention. This pharmacy is busy in the mornings, and that came from the horse's mouth. I agree that it's a great people watching spot too. The service is good, and on a first name basis. This pharmacy has been in business a long time. I know the area is down town but it can not change its location to make things peachy for those who are uncomfortable and are unable to appreciate the wk they do. They are even capable of doing compounds. Also, they are able to get many medications that others can not and preform some of the older methods to insure that insurances accept your script. They wk with all different types of people, yes including the disable, and the poor, because they too have needs and have to get their meds, so start dealing with it like an adult. As for the wait it can take some time but if you have more than half a brain you would not complain about the manner they collect the information cuz its their job and apparently you don't know what it takes to run this type of business.
