I haven't been too wang chungs in awhile. I came because my friend from Maui came into town and stayed at the hotel the bar is inside of. Its a fun little bar since you can go there with friends to drink and karaoke. However if you are shy then you won't sing since there are no private rooms. If you want to sing then its in front of everyone at the bar. Its a dollar a song. Ot gets busy on the weekends so the waitlist can get long. The bartenders can sing as well. One of the bartenders sang a korean song in korean and he wasn't even korean. I was impressed because he sounded so fluent while singing i thought it was an actual song on the radio. They have drink specials as well. I like this bar. If you like karaoke then i would recommend this place. It has a great environment and the bartenders are friendly. read more

Came here 2 nights ago the staff was super friendly and helpful. Because of that we came back...Tonight the ladies working here are full of shit and racist. First they told us the que was full and behind our back added people that they knew. When the other host tried to help by adding our names she told him not to add our name but he did anyway. A few minutes later 1 of the female bar tenders came back over and deleted the name and song request. I now became upset and voiced my concerns which seemed to be done out of spite. We were racially profiled and not given a fair chance as only if you knew them were you able to sing more than 2 songs. Came here twice on our four night trip to Waikiki. Both times, we had great service, cheap drinks, fun karaoke, and amazing food. The Chinese Chicken was perfect. The owner is super nice. First time here Jared and Chelsea were behind the bar. They had food available until midnight. Karaoke was so much fun. It's $1 per song which is strange. This is my first time ever leaving a review. The manager of this bar asked us to leave--the only black people in the bar--for an empty bottle with a cap on it, from earlier in the day, that we put on the counter after taking my phone out of my bag, telling us that it was the law in Hawaii. I tried to speak with him calmly and he accused me of pulling the "race card," whatever that means, and forced us out. I spoke with a woman at the front desk of the hostel, where the bar is located, who said she had no knowledge of these rules. Sunday brunch with flowing mimosas? Woohoo! I'm in! Wang Chung's is located in The Stay Hotel on Koa Avenue in Waikiki. Parking is definitely a challenge, but if you're willing to pay a bit, there are public parking options nearby. Otherwise, it's all street parking. Sunday brunch runs from 10a -2p, and you have your choice of doing brunch only, flowing mimosas only, or brunch and flowing mimosas. The only logical choice is the brunch and flowing mimosas, of course. I found out from the ever so wonderful owner, Dan, that the mimosa menu changes weekly. This week there was lychee, fresh meyer lemon sour, fresh squeezed grapefruit, and housemade ginger beer. The ginger beer was my favorite. I had the chicken and waffles, and man, it was good! Alright, so the waffle was average, but the chicken is gently seasoned just the way I like it, and the batter is fried to a really light crisp keeping the inside really moist, and not at all greasy. Fellow Yelper, Jan K., ordered plates of the chicken and lehua honey biscuit for all of us to try, and that too, was really good. Chicken was on point, and the biscuit very moist with a subtle hit of honey. I would definitely go back! Popped my Wang Chung's cherry a few weeks ago. It was a Monday night around 10 pm and the place had a decently sized crowd. This hidden gem is inside a boutique hotel. Just a short stroll past the front desk and BAM!! it opens to an Oasis film of Karaoke and alcohol. The overall ambiance is great. The only music you hear is Karaoke and people singing their hearts out. Sometimes the bartenders will jump in and sing along. Randy, the bartender is great!!! He holds a conversation and makes the guests feel welcomed. Since my first visit, I've been back a few times. All when are Randy is working the bar. He deserves a pat on the back. So what does it take to get one of Chad Y's prestigious five-star reviews? Is it hosting a birthday party and having to clean up the cake on the floors after his friends cake him? Perhaps we should name not just one drink, but two drinks after the man himself? Why isn't that enough!? I'm sure all these thoughts went through Danny (the owner's head) after my many, many, many visits that would make me look like Norm at Cheers. At the end of the day, it's all about the service, the drinks (in this case), the ambiance, and the overall atmosphere that woo me over and Wang Chung's is simply the best in Honolulu. I'm often asked, Is it gay? Is it straight? Is it for singles? Is it for couples? The answer to all these questions is simply all of the above! Wang Chung's is a place where things are left at the door and you can simply have a carefree and comfortable night filled with fun and some great cocktails. While you will want to order your standard cocktail that you may have at any bar in any city, I encourage you to have that as your first drink so that you can properly compare the bar to anywhere in the world. Then, leave that drink behind and order one of the specialty cocktails that adorn its menu. Whether it is the Mexi-coke, Seleena's Lotus Flower, Ryan's Sweet and Sour Pucker, or a Chad's a Bottom, the wide ranging menu and the skills of their bartenders is its secret weapon. The bold flavors of the fresh fruit juices and the quality liquors make an incredible combination The service is stellar and don't let a Chinese bear hug scare you away (it's not like a panda is coming after you). Dan (the owner) is often there to greet you with a smile and a hug, and if not Cory, Henry and the others are sure to greet you warmly that makes you feel you are at home, even if you might be from out of town. It is that warm feeling that brings the locals and tourists alike in a small patch of Waikiki that exudes the feeling of being at someone's living room. Its size can be its biggest detriment on busy nights, but don't let it get to you. The crowd is more than accommodating and the wait for a drink is never long. Plus its really part of the charm that makes up Wang Chung's. Parking is also a pain, but when is it ever a joy in Waikiki. Plan for street parking, otherwise the King's Village lot is next door and is rather reasonable. Karaoke is $1 per song after 8:00 pm or free before then (along with some great happy hour specials). The list is far reaching and is very up to date. It is hands down one of the best lists in town and is constantly being updated with the hits and some not so big hits (remember Rebecca Black?). Like your usual ADHD Yelper I'm always moving along to the latest shiny object. Only rarely do I go back and update a review, especially if I believe my original rating still stands. Lately though, I've been noticing that I pay no mind to reviews, even those from Yelp friends, when they're dated by a few years. A lot can happen in a few years and I feel the need to know what people are thinking now. This, thus, is a prelude to my reason for updating my 2013 review of Wang Chung's despite the fact that I continue to find everything about it as appealing as I did a few years ago, even if things have changed. What's changed? For starters, Wang Chung's moved down the street since my last visit and is now located inside the Stay Hotel. In the process, they easily tripled their square footage but people have continued to flock here (just try to squeeze in on a Friday or Saturday night). On a Thursday night though? There's the sweet spot. Unlike most everywhere in the universe, at Wang Chung's it's actually okay to be staring at your phone. Your phone is your lifeblood, containing access to the songs in Wang Chung's karaoke repository. It's here that you'll find the rules for participating (e.g. cheer supportively even - especially? - if someone sucks, don't dominate the queue, etc.) and the hows to make it happen (write your name, song name/song number on a piece of paper, submit to bartender along with $1). The $1 per song pay-to-play hasn't changed in years and it remains perfectly priced. When I mentioned to locals how I'd enjoyed my time at Wang Chung's one remarked "you know what really makes the place? The bartenders; they have the nicest bartenders", a statement I concur with. If not for one of those very wonderful bartenders throwing my name on the list (along with his assurance that his song pick for me would contain one word only, albeit sung 3 times) I'd not have sung at all. And, unfortunately for all, I'd not have been inspired to go on to sing a far more wordy song. From the bartenders to the mixed and welcoming crowd of fun-loving locals and tourists Wang Chung's should be amongst the places you make time for while staying in Waikiki. You get to sing from your seat, as the microphone literally gets passed around the space, so you can actually remain quite clandestine as your vocals project around the room. There's some seriously good singers upping the competition but there remains room enough for even the lowliest crooner (me) to feel supported by an enthusiastic, fun loving crowd. (3.5 stars). If you eat this dish AS SOON AS IT COMES OUT then it is tasty and crispy!! Tastes like a churro piping hot!! Wait a few minutes and have the cinnamon sugar dissolve into the melted heap of whipped cream and you have a soggy waffle... AND NOBODY LIKES TO EAT A SOGGY WAFFLE!! :( Biscuits & Gravy. (3.5 stars). I have to say the Biscuit and sausage gravy were tasty! I enjoyed my dish. However, like the other dishes, if you don't devour it as soon as it comes out the gravy will start to congeal. If I went back I would order this again over the Huevos Banditos. Chicken & Lehua Honey Biscuit. (4 stars). This little plate gave me a mini foodgasm. Snicker... It comes with a delicious perfectly fried boneless chicken slapped silly between two fluffy biscuits and drizzled with honey!! OMG I think I might have just had another mini foodgasm just thinking about it! HOT. CRISPY. FRIED. CHICKEN. Yes now please!! It comes with a side of sausage gravy but don't use it!! Just enjoy the delicious chicken in all it's glory!! Unlimited Mimosas. (4 stars). I liked the Lychee Mimosa the best just because it wasn't terribly sweet. Although I probably should have just asked for bottle of Prosecco!! I likes me bubbly!! One of the things that I learned from coming to this brunch is that their menu changes weekly!!?? So sad because I wanted to come back to devour more of these delicious chicken honey biscuits!!! Parking (street) is virtually impossible to find! I tried doing what Nadine C. told me and pray for street parking but all that got me was a closer parking lot for $12 flat rate vice the others which were $18 flat rate!! You might not realize there's a really cool karaoke bar innocuously sitting in the back of a random hotel off the main drag but if you made it here you will need to check it out soon! Friends were gathering after a wedding and the original location we were set to meet was quiet by 9pm. Luckily they found Wang Chung's to keep the festivities alive and well! Using an easy to navigate search engine from a website, it was easy to request songs to sing by placing your order with the bartender with a cash tip. The bartenders were really nice and made the best drinks in the area IMO. The menu was full of interesting options and the crowd was a hodge lodge of locals as well as travelers. Inside the lighting is dark (black lights?) but it's a good atmosphere for a group of friends to enjoy music and hang out for an end of the evening activity. There of course was one girl there for several hours putting in request after request in a semi-professional voice just making everyone else look bad in comparison. I am so exhausted from drinking from 5, partying all evening, found sleeping AGAIN on the sidewalk by Seleena H, and partying and shaking my god given assets with some new people, such as Amber and Row! Gosh! everything everyone says of this place is absolutely true! What amazes me is the size of this place. Tiny little space with a great atmosphere. Every patron is so friendly. The drinks are innovative to say the least. You could go to the extent and ask for a special drink and they will try their best to make it for you. Their happy hour is 2pm to 8pm @ $3.50 a drink. What a deal for Waikiki. This was my first visit to Wang Chungs and didn't quite know where it was. I ended up walking an extra 2 blocks to get there but it was definitely worth the walk. The have 2 flat screen monitors and if no one's singing karaoke, Dan has a rolling slide show of all the patrons, parties and ... I feel special as he put my pic up there with the rest of them after only 1 visit to the place. This is the best bar that I went to during my stay in Waikiki. My peoples and I were bar hopping and found this place through yelp. We were a bit apprehensive about going in because the establishment is SUPER TINY. But a patron of this bar convince us to just all shove in and give it a try. We're so happy that we took the chance! The main attraction was the public karaoke they had there. You go onto their website using your phone, choose your song, and then wait for your turn! It's free! A bit of warning: EVERYONE WHO SANG SOUNDED PROFESSIONAL. I don't know if it just happened to be that night, but everyone I heard sounded like they were competing for American Idol. So even though everyone was nice and supportive, it would be very intimidating to actually sing there. But we were quite happy sitting there listening to everyone else belt out their tunes. Such a fun little bar! Wang Chung's is located down a small alley in near King's Court. Right next door to Iyasume Musubi! My friend wanted to sing karaoke so we ended up here! Happy Hour is from 5-8 so make sure you come during that time. Less people, cheaper drinks, and free karaoke. The drinks are $1 cheaper and the songs are free, after 8pm the songs are $1 each. When we got there around 6:15pm on a Saturday night, there were only about 5-6 other people with us. Nobody was singing karaoke yet so it was very quiet. After people got some drinks in them and the bartender himself sang a song, the fun started! The songs are online, so use their free wifi and your smartphone to search for any song that you want to sing. There are 2 mikes so you don't have to sing alone. Since it was a small atmosphere it doesn't seem as nerve-wracking as the solo stage kind of karaoke. We just kept choosing songs and passing the mikes around the bar. We sang all types of songs from Wonderwall, Womanizer, Tik Tok, Kiss Me, and Tequila! Our bartender was Grayson and he was super nice and made sure to ask everyone their name, unless he knew them already. The drinks are DELICIOUS! You have to try the Lychee Co-tini, which uses their lychee infused vodka but my favorite was the mangotini. It tasted like a mango was just sqeezed into my mouth. Amaze-balls. Such a fun place to hangout and sing your hearts out. The services are very good and quick. Everyone has a happy smile here. Order songs from their website, just write down the number in front of the song on their list, then, the microphones are yours. Two large televisions displaying lyrics. Everything is fried and greasy here, just the way it should be. The popcorn chicken were is delicious and addictive. The fries are oily and sweet. Maybe they are sweet potato fries. Wang Chung's is an amazing LGBTQIA-friendly bar in the middle of Waikiki Beach. They do karaoke all the time and in a very unique way. The songs are $1/song after 7PM. You look up the song on your phone through the website on the table and write down the number. Once you know what you're going to make everyone jam out to, then you hand it off the bartender and await your 3 minutes of fame. The karaoke isn't on a stage, instead you remain seated or dance around the bar area if you're feeling yourself. I'm not sure if I prefer all eyes on me, or to stay seated. On one hand, I'm lazy, but on the other, the seated method encourages people to chat to themselves during your song and it doesn't feel like everyone is singing along. One thing to note here is just how delicious the food is. I highly recommend the popcorn chicken. The delectable nuggets are salty and slightly sweet too. We visited for the Make Your Own Tamale party for a fabulous date night! We read about the event through Frolic Hawaii and found a link to buy tickets through a credit card for only $15/person on eventbrite.com. A few weeks later, our planning was rewarded with a fun night out. (Chef Randy said that it sold out in only a couple of days!). We parked at the zoo and spent about 10 minutes walking over. It's located behind the Hyatt hotel, on Koa street. Our Tamale party was in the back room, with all the tables set with black tablecovers and bowls of prepared masa, chicken, and beef. We sat on a table of 4 seats and a nice young man joined our table. After everyone had the opportunity to grab a drink (my husband got a $6 IPA), Randy brought out corn husks in warm water ready for us to prepare into tamales. He showed us how to wrap them - on the smooth side (it was super helpful for me to use a microfiber cloth to help determine which was the smooth side) spread some masa with the spatula, then spread some filling (chicken, beef, or bean was available) at the bottom of the corn husk, then roll it up. Once we made six tamale, we learned how to tie them together so that the seams didn't open up (lay the corn husk tie down, put down two tamale on top, with the seam facing up, two tamale wth the seam facing down, then another two tamale with the seam facing down, then they can all be tied together). After making a total of 12 tamale, we popped them into a large ziplock bag and got ready to taste some treats. Chef Randy prepared the best pinto beans (I spotted some hunks of bacon/pork in there to make it extra tasty!), delicious rice, and chicken and beef tamales for us to try. They also had a big complementary flavored water dispenser available! The "light" meal was absolutely delicious, totally filling and a little spicy! Made us super excited to steam our wrapped tamale at home and recreate the fun night. The event took about 2 hours, and it was such a great deal for only $15 per person! Besides getting to take home 12 tamales and a yummy dinner, we also learned about Randy's family, how to roll tamales, and had a great time. I'd also recommend trying the tamale when they sell them for special occasions, as they're super delicious and pretty labor intensive, so worth the cost. Chef Randy also mentioned that they host a yummy Thanksgiving dinner, with all donations going to the local elementary school. What hasn't already been said about Wang Chung's? If you're scared of: a) the gays; b) my-nuts-are-in-your-crack crowds (I'm not exaggerating); and c) boisterous patrons who have mastered the art of yelling-that-can-sometimes-pass-as-singing then I'd say you should probably stay the frack away from Wang Chung's. This place is smaller than most master-bedrooms -- believe me, I've been in a lot of master-bedrooms. If I can remember correctly, this place is way smaller than my pre-Revolutionary War Alexander Hall dorm room (I lied about the Revolutionary War part). I would say guessing that the dimension of the room is 20x20 is pushing it ... meh, you get my drift, this place is hella small. The drinks are stiff and moderately priced (the back-lit fluorescent sign has all the bar's specials/signature cocktails -- try the lychee infused vodka). There's Kirin Ichiban on tap. There are two huge flat screen TV's in opposing corners of the room for KARAOKE. I think it's $1/song, but if you're like me and the 20+ others in the room, it's ok if you leach off someone's song request and sing/yell along. read more

Man! My wife and I swung by here on our last day and let me tell you the vibes are chill as fuhh! I don't write a lot of reviews but I will write one for this awesome gem. The vibe is great, the attention to covid detail is excellent. I felt safe, accepted and no bad vibes. The bartenders are honest and I appreciate their skills for handling both the karaoke list plus drinks. Yea tana crazy job but the team has it on lock. Thank you WC for welcoming my wife and I. NOT TRANS OR POC FRIENDLY: I love that you need a vaccine card to get in, the bar back and male servers where the greatest but the way the bar tender (female, white, with black short hair, and bangs) treated my trans sibling is absolutely disgusting. This place has a great vibe but any time my sibling went to get a drink from her, the bar tender was rude af, dismissive, and just a overall dick. Ive been here several times and always had a good time. Great drink specials. last night it was all about the "Moscow Mule" and "Friends" shots. The place is small which, I think , gives it its character. So, this is pretty much the best bar in Waikiki, possibly even in all the Hawaiian islands. Yes, it's a gay bar, so there will probably be gay people present. Every time I've been here, everyone has been super friendly and likes to give massages. I went twice at night and once around opening. Every time has been a different experience. I liked coming around opening because there will be only a few people, it's easy to have a conversation, and most importantly get as many karaoke songs in as you'd like. At night, anything goes--there might be lots of heterosexual bros hogging the mic or a lot of quiet Asian guys. You really just have to go check it out and be open minded. The drinks are good and decently priced. If you forget to close out your tab, you will be charged 15% tip. Dan (the owner) is a really nice dude and it's easy to see why his bar is so successful after interacting with him for a little bit. I really like the karaoke system they have. You have to go to their website and look for song that way. Then you just write the song on a piece of paper and the bartender uses a phone to input your song into the system--really clean system without huge controllers or bulky book. Love this place! Great drinks, great atmosphere, and great people! Definitely a hidden gem in Waikiki. Have come here three times (first was the old location) and the quality of this establishment has gotten better and better. And now they serve an array of bar food? SOLD. Highly recommend the "boifrien" -- where else will you see oolong infused vodka? Tastes like a fancy but extremely delicious and refreshing Arnold Palmer. Also recommend the Chinese popcorn chicken, reminds me of the chicken from Tapioca Express (back home in CA). We last came here on a Monday and karaoke is free until 8pm. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Okay okay, since I have been to the new location, I should write a review, huh? Admittedly, I'm not big on karaoke. My friends brought me one time for my birthday and the sweetest bartender, Bryan, made me a Guinness cupcake that was to die for! Complete with candle and all! A very nice way to make the birthday girl feel special:-) Those same friends held a private birthday celebration and rented out the back room. We even had our own chef who showcased everything on our special menu. The food was delicious! The only downfall was the backroom, with all the tables and chairs, is a bit lacking in space...but I suppose the whole bar is. My most recent outing was this weekend for a co-worker's going away party. Party started around 8:30pm so it wasn't quite as busy as I was used to. This proved to be a good thing because everyone got their drinks and food in a timely manner. The staff is ALWAYS nice at Wang Chungs so that's never an issue. The later at night it got, the more packed it became. The way the karaoke is set up is a bit different than other karaoke lounges I've been to. There are multiple screens throughout the bar because you never know where the person who is singing is as they have 2 cordless microphones roaming around. Every now and then, one of the bartenders will break it down and showcase his pipes!! To see their song list, you go to their website (they even provide you free WiFi) then write down your choice(s) on a green piece of paper and give it to one of the bartenders. I believe it's $1 per song. On the main screen, the cue is up so you can see when your requested song is going to play. I ate the quesadillas for the first time this weekend and they were so delicious! I would go back for that dish alone. Parking is tricky, which is why I always just Uber or Lyft it. It's located inside the lobby of a hotel, so that can deter the newbie. But luckily, there's a big Wang Chung's folding sign out front on the sidewalk. I've been here THREE times in the last week. ...I feel like I should end the review with that. I mean, isn't that enough to say how much I LoooOoOOoove this place? Wang Chung's is one of the most unique places I've ever been. It's unique enough to pull me in so much that it's almost natural that I walk here after finishing work. Actually, it's DANGEROUSLY close as it's only a 2 minute walk from where I work. Dangerous with a capital D. Yes, let's get it out of the way. It's a gay bar. But I'm straight. However, when I describe Wang Chung's to others, I don't say it's a gay bar. Why should that matter?? Instead, it's a place to grab a great drink and sing a bunch of songs with awesome people. It doesn't matter whether you like boys, girls, or toasters. It's a fantastic place to simply HAVE FUN. The bartenders are IN-credible and I've never found a crowd I didn't like. I love how PASSIONATE people get into the songs they're singing. It's how you SHOULD sing when doing karaoke. None of that ''I'll sing, I guess...but oh this is so embarassing, tee hee hee," crap. This is a place to bellow out your favorites. Throw on your Cindi Lauper neon skirt or Snoop Dogg (Lion?) bling and imagine you're on a stage in front of thousands. The people here will praise your efforts, giving you confidence to perform an encore. I'll also give them the imaginary 6th star for the free hugs. Who doesn't love hugs? That's how my night at Wang Chung's started. I can't believe its taken me to get to Wang Chung's. But I'd had a crummy day and decided to finally go to get out of my funk. And it was totally worth it! WANG CHUNGS IS THE ANSWER TO A CRUMMY DAY. Intimate. Fun. Friendly. I mean the bartenders make killah drinks AND take turns on the Karaoke mic. I just can't imagine anyone coming here and feeling out of place or out of sorts. The vibe is just so casual and aloha. Wang Chung's gets extra bonus points for being immensely popular despite its hidden location in a tiny space. The place is tiny. I mean like 10 bar stools tiny. Here's the good news: you won't wait long for a drink. Or your song. Speaking of the songs, songs are free during Happy Hour (which goes until 8PM)!! I love that there is wifi, that the song list is accessed digitally (bring you're phone or tablet) via a QR code. They don't serve food, but they will let you bring food in, which I think is cool.
