We were a party of six for dinner and the bill was $270.00 (no alcohol) Food is way overpriced for the quantity and quality . I had the seared ahi tuna salad, which was a small plate of maybe a cup of baby greens from a bag. the tuna was small strips about the size of your finger. The tuna had a very off taste, all this for $24.50. My husband had the lamb stew which was mainly carrot, very little lamb. The service was mediocre, nothing notable. Will not be returning. read more

So this review mostly pertains to me having breakfast or brunch here because I've never been here for lunch or the night life vibe I always hear so much about(one day I'll try it).. But I will say that every time I've had breakfast here it has been nothing short of amazingly delicious!! Also the outdoor seating is perfect, even in the summer time Today however I went simple with their bacon & eggs combo with a muffin & a Bloody Mary read more

Wait time wasn't long and they didn't seem crowded but they sat 7 of us in a small corner we barely fit in. Food took a very long time to come out so they brought us bread as an apology. The bread had no flavor and was hard. My order seemed inaccurate to the way it was described on the menu, but maybe it's my fault for the way I interpreted it. It was listed as a sandwich so i assumed it would be a layer of mashed potatoes with turkey and gravy between two pieces of bread and a side of cranberry sauce. The gravy was salty with not much flavor, the vegetables seemed frozen, and the bread was completely soggy under everything. The outdoor seating was nice, I just wish we had more space for all of us. read more

The food is always delicious. The ambiance is old-school Claremont. The service is average but what can you expect with young people today. Live music on Wednesday,it's just a bonus. Whatever you do, don't miss dessert. read more

I wanted to believe that I would have a better experience at Walter's despite their three stars on Yelp, but I was mistaken. I always order eggs benedict for breakfast unless I'm feeling adventurous but Walter's eggs benedict looked very unappetizing. The hollandaise sauce had too many air bubbles in it; it wasn't creamy or smooth. The hashbrowns looked uninviting as well - the overall experience was lacking. Except for the heater, that was right above our table. We politely asked if we could have it turned off since everyone in our party of 10 was getting uncomfortably hot, yet they refused since they had chosen that heater to keep everyone else warm disregarding that it made us miserably hot. I would not return to this restaurant. read more

Walters - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Claremont, California

I was not super impressed by this place. My fiance loved his steak, and my stepson loved his chicken. I ordered a side of lamb meat with the fiance's plate, but it was super dry, not really flavorful. We also tried the Afghan fries, and they might have been better if they were not full of grease. I took one taste and threw them out. SUPER disappointed, and I am not sure if that was how they were meant to be or not, but WAY too much grease for me. read more

Always a great place to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Love the Afghan dishes. Favorite local restaurant

Went for brunch last Sunday...Drinks were good, but food was awful. My order lamb omelette with fruit. Omelette was just meat cheese and egg-decent. Fruit-mushy. Friend's orders-burnt but microwaved back to life rubbery quiche and cold (to the touch) juevos rancheros-which is eggs on tortilla with salsa...that's it. Two thumbs down. read more

Blah...I assume this place is still alive because Claremont isn't a competitive city for decent food. I came here twice and both time I was disappointed. Decor: Old, outdated, rundown, you name it Food: I doubt they put any thoughts in these dishes. Second time I came here for a mixer event, the chicken wings were so dry and overcooked. How can you ruin chicken wings?!?! First time I came, I ordered angel hair pasta with shrimps, and oh man, it tasted pretty oily and nasty. Service: Okay service Overall, I will not return again. I came here twice and both time sucked. Reading all these recent negative reviews, they really need to up their game to survive. read more

Really nice to sit on the patio on a beautiful morning to have coffee, breakfast, and read the paper. The patio is relaxing and peaceful, and the cadence of the waitstaff is casual -- perfect. The menu is a bit different that the usual fare, and this makes Walter's unique. Owned and operated by a nice Afghan couple, more of the Afghan foods are highlighted at lunch and dinner. They serve wine and beer, cocktails, and spirits. I got: ==== The Afghan Patty & Eggs [$14.95, 3.5 stars] -- Made with fresh ground beef patty mixed with onions, green peppers and spices. Served with Afghan fries. It was oily, but very tasty indeed. Breakfast Highlights: ================= Sunday buffet AYCE ($35); Omelettes ($11.75 to $15.25); Pancakes/Waffles ($9.50 to $11.50); Specialty Breakfast Entrees (up to $24). Lunch Highlights: ============== Salads ($10.75 to $21); Pizzas ($15.95 to $19.95); Lamb Shank ($24); Lamb Stew ($16.95); Lamb Burrito ($17.50); Lemon Chicken ($15.95); Afghan Burger ($14.25). Dinner Highlights: ============== Kabobs ($19.75 to $26.95); Afghan Fries, Hummus & Tahini, Dolmas, Bolawnies, Aash Soup, Pasta ($14.25 to $23.95); Steaks/seafood ($19.95 to $35). Conclusion: ========= If you are in the area, it's a nice stop. If you are local, it's in your regular rotation. If you drive here from miles away, you're going to be disappointed. Overall, it's a bit pricey. read more

Updating my review for a few reasons: 1. Food - Their menu is a huge book (think Cheesecake factory style). Some items are really really bland and boring. But some are packed with sooo much flavor that you can't stop craving them. A few I like: *Tandoori Salmon *Tandoori chicken wings *Balownies 2. Atmosphere - This alone gives them 5 stars!!! If you're in Claremont and are in the mood to relax and enjoy the weather, have a hew drinks and nibble on food- come here! The property is huge with indoor and outdoor seating. They also have an outdoor lounge area with a fire pit. Looks pretty romantic in the evening. 3. Event Catering - I recently planned a New Year's dinner for work here and they were very easy to work with. Everyone enjoyed their food and cocktails. The layout allowed us to stay inside the dining room or walk over to the bar and relax in their outdoor seating. read more

What a massive letdown! Walter's, you had something great going, but you ruined it by changing your menu. Not only did you hike up the prices, but you also shrank the portions, and the food quality has plummeted. My wife and I went there for dinner last night with the intention of bringing a party of 22 people to your restaurant next weekend. I am so glad we went last night because our large party would have been severely disappointed with the changes you've made. The service has deteriorated as well--we had to ask for everything! No bread, had to ask for water, had to ask for refills, and overall, the entire night was a huge disappointment. I don't understand why you had to change your menu. You had something truly special, and now it's completely gone. It's safe to say that I will no longer be visiting your establishment. With all the new restaurants opening in the area, you'd think you would try to improve instead of downgrading. There are too many other nice places around. Remember the old saying: if it isn't broken, don't fix it. read more

Had a wonderful experience at Walters. It was my first time there and will definitely go back. We got breakfast plates and were not disappointed. The Eggs Benedicts were superb. The pancakes were flavorful. My son thoroughly enjoyed his eggs with fluffy potatoes and a delicious beef patty. The spices were perfect. They offered several different spicy sauces to enjoy with the meals. Our server Andrew was excellent. He broke down the popular breakfast plates and also gave suggestions for lunch and dinner for future reference. Coffee was delicious and we were was offered fresh bread. All around an excellent experience. This is now our future breakfast spot!! read more

This place was a great recommendation from a co worker. Decided to try it out on new year's eve and it was great. Loved the atmosphere and the service was great. I had the pasta and gf had the soup. Both were great and would get again. 10/10 spot. Place has a bakery also. read more

I've been going to Walter's since I was a kid, and usually service is good. However, this time we waited several minutes until a server showed up. Service was slow throughout the meal, and food was just ok. Hope this is an anomaly. read more

I have been a long time customer of Walters who has experienced breakfast, lunch, and dinner at various times of the year. During the day while working in Home Health, I have stopped many a time to purchase their chocolate chip walnut cookies which are always the best. My husband and I just left Walters 30 minutes ago after having the worst restaurant experience in our lives. That says a lot since we have been to hundreds of restaurants in the US and overseas. The customer service we received today was TERRIBLE!!! Let me explain. 1. Unfriendly greeting form a woman seating us. When asked if we could be seated away from other people due to Covid, restrictions she responded with " Well, I'll do the best I can." No reassurance from her. 2. I ordered a 2 egg breakfast (poached) that was supposed to come with hash browns ( requested crispy), bread, butter and jelly. A fruit cup could have been substituted for hash browns with an extra charge. I asked for a fruit cup in addition. I ended up without hash browns and without bread, butter and jelly. I questioned the server who promptly informed me that it was either hash browns or fruit. I wanted the fruit and hash browns, not one or the other and was willing to pay extra for the fruit. 3. My husband ordered coffee, I ordered fresh squeezed orange juice. Drinks never came until I requested them at the time our food arrived and even then had to wait longer from them to come I didn't receive a spoon for the poached eggs so got up out of my chair and went to flag someone down to ask for a spoon so eggs wouldn't get cold. It arrived shortly thereafter. Coffee was not replenished until quite awhile after we asked our server. Realizing that I didn't receive bread and butter, I also asked the server to bring it. He acknowledged hearing me with a nod but bread never came. Finally I motioned for him to come to our table and requested a box for my husbands pancakes and to please bring a roll with butter - 3rd petition. Initially received a small box that looked I like it would accomodate a hot dog so had to request a larger box which did come to our table. 4. We noticed that other people were quickly receivng drinks and their food before us when we had come into the restaurant before them. 5. We waited and watched as the server came into our area a few times with the bills for other tables and left over boxes; he never even looked at us. Finally, after about 30 minutes, we decided it would be best to get up from our table and walk to the cashier in front of restaurant. I told the employee that we never received our bill and described the other problems with our meal. He was able to determine what we had ordered and printed out a new bill. It was not itemized so I am still unsure whether it was accurate. He did apologize and thanked us for our patience with the excuse that they had been quite busy today. Also said he there must have been a miscommunication and he would notify the kitchen staff. 6. One positive note: the poached eggs, pancakes, coffee, and fresh squeezed orange juice was very good, however I left the restaurant hungry. Ultimately, My husband and I felt like we were imposing on the service staff by being there even though we were spending our money on the food and had every right to expect a certain level of customer service. No one seemed to pay attention or really care except the young man at the cash register who somehow must have had some training in this area, but not enough. After todays contact with Walters, we will be looking at other alternatives in Claremont to patronize. read more

Very cute setup at Walters. Service was pretty good and their margherita pizza was delicious, very oily though. My one complaint is about the water cups. I wasn't able to continue putting my mouth on the glass and drink out of it, because it had a bad odor. read more

DONT GO! Went to Walters a few days ago. Ordered a fettuccini Alfredo. They charged me 30 dollars and also charged me for extra chicken when I didn't even order extra chicken. So it bumped up the price to $6 for no reason. I take it home and it looked like a Walmart microwave meal and they ended up putting salmon in it, no chicken. I called and they said that it wasn't true. Thankfully we had the receipt and pictures of it. They said would call back to give us a refund and never did! Look on yelp for the real reviews read more

Walters - Celebration dinners or a low key dinner out. We love Walter's! - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Claremont, California

Food was served fast and our waiter was good. BUT I brought a cake over from some crust bakery to celebrate my Mom's birthday and they wanted to charge 3.50 per slice! It was a party of 6 and that would have been 21 dollars total. What a ripe off. Do they charge to sing the happy birthday song too? Won't be coming here to celebrate birthdays. read more

So a couple of my girlfriends and I went to this place for brunch yesterday. The place was really cute and the food was really good. However, our server Miguel then out of nowhere tells us we had to "keep it down" otherwise we would be cutoff from the bottomless mimosas. We were shocked! Mind you, first of all one of us wasn't even drinking, we're women in our 40's, just catching up and having some laughs. What's wrong with that!? We did notice when that happened a few people had already left the restaurant, which might've been the reason why we sounded "louder" all of a sudden. We've always gone to different places for brunch and have always acted the same and have never been "warned" that we're going to be cut off! We had a feeling it was actually coming from the server and not the actual manager, but who knows and regardless it was still insulting! Needless to say WE WILL NEVER BE GOING BACK! read more

Came here for lunch with my friends and had a great time, miguel was a great server he made it a great experience!!

I've been coming here for over 20 yrs. It's always been a little overpriced but usually the service is very good and it's a peaceful ambiance to talk with friends. I had not been here in about a year and decided to meet a friend for lunch at my suggestion and we sat inside to the right in the back area. Our food was very good. The afghan fries are too oily so next time regular fries for me. What I really didn't like was that the server brought over the total bill on his device and waited there for me to pay and tip him while he was watching. I opted to omit the tip and left him cash. This is not ok as a customer to stand there and we were not even ready to leave. It shows bad manners and an expectation to pay immediately. read more

Our favorite bar tender in Fullerton, Austin, moved to Walter's a few months ago and we were in Claremont so we stopped by to say hello. As always, enjoyed spending a bit of time with him. One of my close friends and I came here for breakfast on a friday morning and she was raving to me about this place's omelets. We came in and we were immediately greeted. They asked if we had any seating preferences, in which I asked for a booth. The booth was nice and we noticed that their restaurant has a various display of plants, all very beautiful and elegant flowers. This made the atmosphere feel very nice. Our waitress got us water and she asked us to order. We were no where near ready to order. She was a bit grumpy and I felt really rushed, considering I barely sat down. We askd about the afgan fries but she was not being helpful. If I'm asking about it, I obviously dont know what it is.. .. .. We asked for an extra few minutes, but instead she gave us a buncha extra minutes =/ My friend ordered the bacon and cheese omelet with hashbrowns and i ordered the french toast combo with an extra egg (not that I can finish it, but I thought ONE egg was an awkward number.. I got charged an extra $2 for that damn egg too.. sigh). While we were waiting, we were given complementary bread and butter and jelly. I thought that was nice. And when we were done with that, the food came in a timely manner. From a glance, I like the way my plate was displayed and I noticed how the eggs had a nice edge without being raw on top (for a sunny side up). Very impressed. However I feel as though the display of my friends omelet was a bit unpleasing, considering this place is a nice restaurant and all.. .. (pictures uploaded to yelp) My french toast was amazing in aroma and in taste. It was really good, but I could only eat half of my portion. My friend commented on how her omelet was great, and how they were very generous with the bacon. I tried a bite, just so I can review about it, and I agree. It was delicious :D When it was time to leave, I had to wave our waitress down for our check.. .. And she took so long to pick it up, I had to ultimately walk it up to the front so that I can get my change. So basically the atmosphere was great and the food was great, but the service was lacking. I will definitely come back to give them another chance to improve this rating. read more

I brought my boyfriend here today, for a late lunch. We sat inside and looked at the menu. A LOT of the staff was chatting, eating in the corner, watching TV...basically doing everything but working. Mind you, the place wasn't full but there were a good 4 tables with costumers. We were brought water fairly quick but after that, it took an eternity for anyone to wait on us. We thought maybe it's because our menus are still open...then I thought it shouldn't hinder a professional from approaching our table and introducing themselves. Our waiter finally came and he was nice throughout, but I noticed the couple across from us got no service at all. The woman looked downright pissed off. I ordered the lamb burrito and my bf ordered the Afghan burger. He dislikes that there was no cheese or any sauce to appease the dry bread, as it was just a slab of meat with bread. He asked our waiter if they had ranch or something and he brought him the yogurt sauce and the homemade salsa. He enjoyed the yogurt sauce...me, not so much. It took any flavor away from my burrito, which consisted of a lot of beans and sauce, and a few pieces of lamb. The fries were good, though. It's been 4 hours and I've been dealing with THE worst heartburn. I haven't eaten anything after that and I'm stuffing my face with tums. My bf cannot stop burping. For the lack of professionalism, service and price, we probably won't be back. read more

While Walter's has a large patio that is great for groups, the food quality just wasn't there, especially for the price point. Part of the challenge is the sheer size of the menu. Usually when you see so many items from so many different food traditions in one place it can't all be good. Sadly, that was our experience. I ordered the lamb shank which came out so tough that it couldn't be cut and actually had to be sent back. Eventually, they brought me a smaller shank that had been braised enough to be tender, but it was pretty unremarkable. It was served with a few chunks of potato and some partially wilted spinach, not the best. Someone else in our group had the beef kabob, which they liked. But it seemed that every other person had a so-so meal. read more
