If Walter's was a person, they would have a serious identity crisis. Afghan fries? Lobster pasta? Ceviche? The food served here is definitely a hodge-podge. From the outside, Walter's looks like any other restaurant. But step inside, and you realize its a labyrinth of rooms, with an outside courtyard in the middle of the building and all. There's no bad table that I've experienced yet, but if you have preferences you're sure to find a table that fits your specification here. Food-wise, Walter's is as noted above a true eclectic mix. I've tried pasta, afghan fries, ceviche, and more during my visits here. In my opinion, the food is overpriced for the quality, and the dishes are definitely hit or miss. The problem with the dishes stems from the identity crisis Walter's has in my opinion, but it's unlikely that this will be fixed anytime soon. The desserts are pretty tasty though-- my personal favorite is the small desserts platter, as you get to try several different desserts at once. Make sure to split it with a friend though, as the portions for dessert are large! All in all, if you need to have a dinner in the village, given Watler's size you'll probably be able to get a table here. Whether you want to eat here is different question though. Decent food, but as far as I'm concerned its overpriced. read more

Walter's is a place that has everything going for it. The back patio area is huge and everything is nicely spread out. Service was excellent. The food was good. I tried the bolawnies appetizer, spicy pasta for my entree, and concord cake for dessert. So why didn't I give this place more stars? The ambience. There was a group there that was super loud. I don't mind loud but it was ridiculous...like yelling at times. The staff refused to ask them to quiet down. This definitely affected my dining experience. read more

Very disappointed, poor service and food not impressive at all. The restaurant is old and VERY DIRTY; specifically the bathroom. I don't understand Why if I have a reservation for 6 to celebrate 3 birthdays AND the restaurant has good music why we don't get to be sat in the white cloth dining room to enjoy the entertainment? We were sat on the last table all of the way out. read more

I'm not the type of person to leave a bad review, I usually only use Yelp for positive reviews. But this was embarrassing and unkind so I feel it needs to be known. We had a reservation for 7, because a few of us were coming from out of town they ran late. The 4 of us who showed up on time weren't allowed to be seated until at least 6 of us were present, even though the table just sat there empty. The server could've been making money off of us as we waited for our party. It was the manager David's position that we needed at least 6 in our party to be present even though we pleaded with him as it was a 90 degree day as we waited outside and we were thirsty. Once seated we ended up racking up nearly a $300 bill and when our awesome server, Miguel, was going home we opted to close our tab so that we could tip him. After we tipped our server well we got no service even though we had paid for bottomless Mimosa's. I tracked someone down and respectfully asked if we could get another bottle as we had paid for the bottomless Mimosa's. The manager David sent the server over to our table to tell us that they would no longer be serving us. We felt bad for that server as we felt the manager should've been the one to come over to deliver the bad news, but David let his server do it. NEVER in any of our lives have we ever been denied service. It was mind blowing! We asked the manager, David, as we left if anyone had complained about us because we were so dumbfounded. He said no, not at all. We are a happy group of girls! Needless to say, none of our group of 7 will ever patronize this restaurant again as we were made to feel as though our business was unappreciated and we even felt disrespected. Oh! Bottomless Mimosas are only bottomless until 3 according to David. He says it's in the menu, we didn't see it so I feel like I need to let others know. This girls brunch was a special occasion for us, so it was very disappointing to have to end it on such a sour note. read more

Came for Mother's Day brunch and it was such a disappointment. We had reservations and they sat us at what I wouldn't even consider a table. It was wicker chairs with dirty seat cushions and a short coffee/drink table that I would consider somewhere for people to sit and enjoy drinks while waiting for their table to be ready. I took my mom and grandma here and it was so uncomfortable to be leaning over the table. In order to be somewhat comfortable eating we had to hold our plates up like we were at some sort of backyard get together. There was also a half a drink sitting on the windowsill by our table that they sat us at. The buffet was terrible, a lot of the food was gone or cold. The food also tasted weird. With the quality of the food and the whole environment it was definitely not worth the $55 per person. There were really no waiters besides bringing us a bottle of water and the check yet they tried to select a 25% tip for nothing. I'm glad I changed it to a custom tip but I'm sure a lot of people didn't realize they can customize the tip. Overall the Mother's Day brunch was a huge disappointment. read more

The owner contacted me after seeing this review. He was very apologetic and wanted to make it right. He asked when I wanted to pick up a Tandoori Salmon on the house. I picked it up that evening. They made sure everything was perfect. My wife was very happy. The owner did all he could to fix the situation. Lesson learned on my part though. I always check to go orders. Do not come to this restaurant expecting super high quality food. I ordered the hummus, they told me it came with vegetables and naan. It came with overcooked, limp, and cold steamed (frozen) veggies. Both the bread they served table side and with the dish seemed pretty stale. Maybe it was partly to do with weather? Although, I also could not eat the vegetable dish I got because of the quality of the vegetables, some had turned rotten or old, I tried picking through it and after a few bites I didn't feel well. The Afghan food may be a better choice at this restaurant. We also got the chicken kabob, that came with rice. The rice was good, but it was also almost cold and so was the chicken. I feel like the owners of the restaurant probably put a lot of effort into it and people probably love it for the variety on the menu. But it was low quality food based on how the website and description portray this restaurant. And it was pretty expensive for what we got, especially because we didn't eat most of it. I really do not like leaving negative reviews. Although, I feel like it is important for visitors to the area to have a better idea of the quality of this restaurant. The inside had a very strong and almost unbearable chemical smell from cleaner they used. I'd hope this isn't always there though. We sat outside and it was a nice summer night. They have a nice porch. read more

We love the brunch menu and excellent Bloody Mary's! I definitely enjoy the standard 2 egg breakfast, side of hash browns, and toast. I would recommend trying the omelettes as I have had them on several different occasions. The service is quick, and welcoming. Waiters and waitresses are very professional as well! Enjoy! read more

I hosted a birthday party for my wife at Walter's. We invited just over 65 guests and hired live music and other entertainment. The space we rented was reminiscent of a French bistro and the lighting added to the atmosphere of a wonderful evening. Walter's accommodated every aspect of our party plan. Charly Yeager was fantastic to work with and she had great ideas including using one of Walter's signature cookies as party favors for our guests. The food was amazing and beautifully presented. Walter's staff, including owner David, we're present throughout the evening and provided us excellent service. For an event of this size and type Walter's charge was entirely reasonable and given the attention and food we enjoyed it is unquestionably the most value added venue in the Foothills communities. It is at the top of my list of recommendations for party and large group events. read more

Great food with a great ambiance. Would definitely come back again. Drinks were amazing as well!!!

I hosted a party of 12 to Brunch last Sunday to celebrate a birthday. We were seated at an outside table which was fine. Service was mixed - bread was served almost as soon as we were seated, but three of our guests who arrived a few minutes later were not served quickly, and were at first offered bread but no plates. One guest waited 20 minutes for their $7.50 orange juice! A survey of opinions on the food was rather negative. Probably the best report I heard was "Okay, but not great". Others were less laudatory! Walter's does not offer good value for food in my opinion. It was however a celebratory event and was enjoyed as such, but it is not somewhere I will patronize again. read more

This place is a gem in the Claremont Village. Both times I went, service has been fantastic and the servers are very nice and friendly. I ordered the Grilled Fresh Salmon and it's delicious. My husband and I had such an excellent time at Walters! The ambience with relaxing classical music and waterfall fountain sounds in the background, delicious dessert and lattes, and great service was exceptional! Gabby was so sweet! She made the best lattes! I had flaky pastry with chocolate layered sliced pear cake and a chocolatey morsel brownie! We had great servers that kept checking on us to make sure we are happy! It is an indoor outdoor patio area with great scenery and lighting. The combination of sweet dessert and fresh coffee lattes is a great balance! I would highly recommend anyone to come here first before any other bakery or coffee house in Claremont! read more

My wife and I are regulars at Walters and have brought several friends here. This is the epitome of a well-run and comforting family owned restaurant with an eclectic menu and a wait staff that is on point. My general rule of thumb for restaurants is that even if the food is great, the decider for me is the level of service, and Walters shines in that category. Some of the wait staff have been here for decades and one can appreciate the continuity Walter's owners and management endeavor to instill in the ever changing community of Claremont. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to eat at a place that feels less like a restaurant and more like a family gathering with good friends. read more

My family went to this restaurant for my mother's birthday, we had been once before years ago and decided to go back. There were eight of us and I was the only one that enjoyed their meal. The rice pilaf was over cooked and dry, the $38 ribeye's had a lot of grizzle and were over cooked. The steamed vegetables still hard. I called ahead when I put my reservation if they did anything for birthdays and they said they would have a dessert for my mom. When we got there I reminded our server and at the end we got the bill and no mention of her birthday. We orders two appetizers, the hummus which was okay and the bruschetta which was too thick, soft, and didn't have any balsamic on it. For $300 my family was very disappointed. If any positive our server was friendly I guess our first clue should have been that is was empty on a Saturday night read more

I am in love with this place!! I've had breakfast and lunch here a couple times, but usually come for the night life with my friends. Just a heads up, things don't usually get crazy over the weekends, unless their are a bunch of large parties. My friends and I usually go to drink with each other so it doesn't bother us much, so if you're looking for a crowed place with music so loud, you can hardly hear people; this isn't your place. It is a great place to come relax with friends or to make new friends and have a few drinks. There's an outdoor area and the indoor area. After 9 or 10pm, they'll move some table around and make a dance floor. They do have a DJ and lights to pump up the vibes. Every worker I have dealt with, have been awesome!! They usually have a couple servers at night, so if their are large groups; they tend to get slowed down (wouldn't expect otherwise). They try their best, which is good enough for me. They do have security, and they're great too! When we would smoke on the patio area, they don't mind bringing us ash trays, even though we insist getting them ourselves. Overall, great place to hang out!! read more

I've been to this place a couple of times, my experiences have been average until today. I walked in with my family today for lunch, the floor under the table we were seated was in desperate need of sweeping. There were egg bits and huge bread crumbs all over the floor. Someone brought water and that's about all the service we got. Needless to say we got up and walked out, the hostess just said thank you as if she hadn't seated us 10 mins prior. Will not be going back. read more

This place is interesting that it serves a wide variety of dishes. This place wasn't planned, we randomly walked upon it and decided to have dinner int he outdoor seating. The table we sat at was on a slope, nothing will fall off but the feeling made me a bit uncomfortable but I got over it eventually. I think the entire patio is made on a very slight incline. The place was really pricey however and the portions are rather big but that was because there were a ton of rice. Ordered the chicken kabob and the shrimp tandoori. Both dishes were really dry but we asked for some sauces which were the yogurt, green jalepeno cilantro (I think?), and a red spicy sauce. We honestly drenched the entrees with the yogurt and green sauce to make it very tasty. Our server was non-existent. No idea where he was during our entire meal, waited forever to get the check. 3 stars. read more

Their french toast was awful. The crust was completely dry and the toast itself was bland. You could tell they didn't even season the egg mixture before dipping the bread. Their cured salmon however was perfect. The capers were not too strong and it was served with tomato and egg. It was literally 50/50. Their mimosa brunch is solid, I've been multiple times, so it's unpleasantly suprising that an easy dish like french toast was prepared so poorly. It was as if they didn't even try... My friend got a spinach, fetta and mushroom omelette and she said it good. I don't know...I might do a mimosa brunch there again, but the breakfast is out. read more

I give this place 2 stars for their ambience. I loved that it was out doors and at the end of the night there was a bar and dance floor. The waitress was tentative after we purchased a bottle of fireball. Other than that, the food is terrible. The rice with my chicken kabob had some hard pieces. They chicken was basic. I could have made this at home. The crab taco has no flavor and the hot sauce over powered the taste. Everything should have taste good since I was STARVING!!! Nice place for a birthday, but I don't think I would come back unless i was invited. read more

We came here for dinner on New Years' Day, wanting to try a new spot and hungover like the rest of the world was that day. Walter's is a lovely restaurant, with a huge patio with fire pits, an indoor dining area, and a sidewalk covered patio with heat lamps..... each has a casually romantic ambiance and it feels like 3 different restaurants in one. Even though it was January, we were nice and warm on the patio. We were excited about the huge menu that really would have something for everyone. Walter's has a combination of American, Afghan, Mexican, Indian, Italian, and other foods I'm probably forgetting. There are nightly specials and also some great happy hour deals that differ each day. Saturdays and Sundays offer all-day HH and $4 Bloody Marys, which we were happy to partake in. I asked for an Old Fashioned without sugar and received a sugary drink with club soda added. Our server was happy to take it back to be re-made. I went with the Pasta with Lamb and Red Wine Sauce, and my fiancé went with the Shrimp Tandoori. We ordered the Fried Asparagus (coated in parmesan) to start. The appetizer was good, but also consisted of 6 asparagus (is it asparagi? I just realized I don't know) for $8.50. We both really liked our dishes, but his dish, which came with mostly rice and 2 kebabs with about 3 shrimp on each, was more of a $12 dish than a $27 dish. The lamb in my pasta was succulent, flavorful, juicy, and generously portioned, but the "sauce" wasn't really much of a sauce at all. Final verdict - The food is good, but very, very overpriced. We feel that they stay in business through the Friday and Saturday night club scene, events and what seems like many loyal customers due to them having been in business for so long (most of the other diners we saw were older, very affluent-looking people). I was going back and forth between 3 and 4 stars but service was good and we enjoyed our experience here. Unless it's a special occasion to justify the cost, we will probably just come back for the hours of happiness. read more

Went here for the first time with my fiancé and his kids. They have been here several times over the years but the last time was 3 years ago for them. We walked out disappointed. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant in the atrium area where they were having a private party of maybe 20-25. It was so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves talk at our table and witnessed one girls pass out and vomit after probably being there for hours drinking the bottomless mimosas. The bread was hard as a rock and even the girl handing out the bread said they were aware of it, as it sounded like many people were saying the same thing. Our chicken sandwich was rubbery and when we told the waiter he seemed annoyed and said it was fully cooked because it wasn't pink and when we said we didn't want it (we removed the sandwich from the plate and still had the fries in front of us) he actually asked for the plate of fries back too, Which was fine until we got our bill and the sandwich was still on the bill, even though he asked for the plate of fries back (we assumed since he did this he was going to take it off the bill). I know I'm rambling on... but it was truly disappointing. My fiancé bypassed the waiter (since he and a few other staff members were tending to the clean up of vomit and tending to the other 1/2 dozen people who had one too many mimosas. ) and went to the front desk. They didn't seem to be aware of our complaint but did take it off the bill when asked. This is why I gave two stars vs one. I was really hoping to like this place as it had a cool vibe and there was a lot of items on the menu that looked good. Sadly I will not be going back. read more

So as atmosphere goes I love this place. There is a great vibe and a variety of eating sections. We sat in the courtyard which had a central fire bit and beautifully lit with fairy lights. The service was delightful too. Unfortunately did not match the atmosphere. Overall for the price the food was sub par. I had the lamb shank which was tender but bland and not very exciting. The presentation of the dishes were not appetizing at all. I would give 4 stars for ambience and 2 stars for food. If I was going to pay $40 per head I would expect a lot more. To the management of Walters. If you read this... You have the potential to be a top quality establishment just bring in Gordon Ramsay to help in the kitchen. read more

New Year's Day and much of the village restaurants are closed but not Walter's. So we decided to have lunch here. In the past, we have sat in the sidewalk patio area, but today we sat in a patio area that is further back. It has a big fire pit in the center, and on a chilly day like today, we loved the warmth. Overall, nice environment but the bench cushions are dirty/stained and kind of gross looking. As for the food, the complimentary bread and butter is the best! My husband had a stuffed burger. He said it was okay. I had the lemon chicken combo which was a bone in chicken breast with a side of lentil bean salad and southwestern cole slaw. The chicken was ok, but those side salads were the stars of the dish. I would enjoy eating those any time. Service was really slow, not sure if they were understaffed on this holiday or because there was a large gathering in one of the back private rooms, we rarely saw our waitress, but thank goodness there was a gentleman who kept our drinks filled. I would probably come back, but most likely i will be alone because my husband was unimpressed. read more

We came just for drinks. Our group had 2 mimosas & a Bloody Mary. I liked the Bloody Mary: they use tomato juice & their own homemade salsa.
