We have been customers of Walsh's for several years. We use them quarterly at our home for outside preventive pest control. We have never had a problem with them. We have sent them to our rental property for service and to our mom's condo. Have referred them to many. However, today we have come to find out their customer service is terrible and we will be hiring a new company. Being preoccupied with our mom being on hospice and recently passing, we did not realize that Walsh's hadn't been out in a while. Someone from their company calls me quarterly to set up an appointment. Today I called due to an outdoor flea problem and inquired as to when their next quarterly visit would be. The man who answered (later identified as the owner), stated that they hadn't been out to our house since September because I had stopped the service. I told him he must have me confused with someone else's account because I never stopped service. He said he remembered the phone call with me. I didn't want to argue with this man because I figured it was a moot point. He said they could come next week but that I would have to pay a start up fee. I thought he had to be joking. He wasn't. I told him that he not only services my house, but has serviced my rental property and my mom's house as well. Additionally I told him we had referred customers to him. He did not care. I told him we would be looking for another company - he did not care. Rude man. Only decided on them in the first place to help out a small, family owned business. Johnathan laid traps under the house. We learned that whatever was under the house, could outsmart the traps, so Johnathan put in a trap for possums. That was the ticket. I have used Walsh's for multiple problems with rats and mice in our attic and garage. I live in an area up in the foothills where we simply have a wide variety of wildlife. I did not want poison used because I did not want to introduce poison into the foodchain. Walsh's used traps baited with some sort of special food that the rats loved. Called Walsh cuz some critter was digging holes in my front yard. Got a two hour window for the next day. The tech came out 35 mins early w/o calling. I wasn't home yet. My gf was home & talked to the tech, but I had specific questions to ask. By the time I got home the tech was gone & assessed it wasn't gophers, tho he didn't know what it might be. Called Walsh to find out why he came early w/o calling. They said he'd call me. The tech, Brian, called me & was a total ass. Said he came early cuz... "he did." Also, they didn't tell him to call. I live in a duplex and my landlord chose this company to take care of the cockroaches that were invading my home. The exterminator came in the morning and I returned home after the right amount of time has passed... returned to find a sloppy mess. I came home with my one year-old and there was residue EVERYWHERE, along every baseboard, on my furniture, on my bedspread, and on my son's toys. He had sprayed along the edges of the floor in every room and there was poisonous residue everywhere. I had to leave and find someone to watch my son for an hour so I could do a quick and furious deep-clean... mop all the floors and scrub along every baseboard... throw all of the linens in the laundry and wash a bunch on my son's toys. It was a nightmare. I've never dealt with pest-control before so maybe its customary for there to be some sort of residue that needs to be cleaned up before the family can re-entry, but you should definitely tell your client this ahead of time so they can make the appropriate arrangements. So I mentioned to my landlord what had happened and he put a call into the owner. The owner called me back that night (I was in class) and left a message, not apologizing, but insisting that one of his workers would NEVER do such a thing. That they are very careful and would NEVER spray a child's toys. Ok, well I know what I saw and I know what I had to clean up. I don't think that telling the customer that they are wrong, and basically calling me a liar, is the best way to get repeat business. I wouldn't have written a review at all if he had apologized for the trouble and left it at that. I wish I had gone with Orkin. I'm don't usually write reviews unless there was something that was very bad or very good about the business or product. This was our first time using this company or any company for an ant problem we had. They were recommended by our local veterinary hospital because we have pets. From the initial contact Mr. Walsh was rude and very short with us. None the less we went ahead and scheduled an appointment with them giving them the benefit of the doubt. We ask the technician to knock or call when he arrived because we had some questions about the pesticide they use. After waiting the two hour window we never heard anything. We finally went outside only to find an invoice hanging on our screen door for the "services" he did. We did an inspection around the house and it looked like nothing was done. So we called Mr. Walsh to tell him what happened with the technician and the job he was supposed to do. Mr.Walsh seemed to be annoyed at us and became increasingly frustrated with us asking what happened and why did the tech leave without payment. Mr.Walsh said that the tech called and knocked but we did not answer. Mr.Walsh was vague with his answers and said that they will not be returning and to consider it to be a freebie and that he if we have any issues to call another company. We asked Mr.Walsh why he didn't want to collect the $130 payment he was very short and seemed like he didn't want anything do with us. It all seemed very shady and odd to us that the they supposedly did the job and then not ask for payment. Needless to say we called another company to do the job and they were excellent. I do not recommend this company and if you do, keep and eye on the tech to see if they actually do the job. read more

I have been a customer with Walsh's Pest Control for over 15 years. I recently canceled an appt. (which I had never done in the past 15 years I have been a customer) and Christine Walsh sent me a letter in the mail cancelling any future service with me moving forward. She clearly was upset when I called and cancelled the appt. even after I apologized for the inconvenience. Instead of keeping up with the monthly service I agreed to sign up for I get a letter in the mail a week later stating we no longer service your area. This is the worst in customer service I have experienced in a long time. I could see if I was cancelling all the time or any time but that was not the case at all. I agreed to the appt she set up initially but ended up not needing it after all. I called before the business even opened that day but it was still an issue. I have never felt so discarded as a customer before and Christine is the worst for that business. She acted as if I offended her personally. If Walsh is so great that they don't need long term and loyal customers that may have to cancel an appt once every 15 years or so then so be it. This made your business look extremely desperate and petty. read more

Honestly, what good are exterior rat traps, if the rats are INSIDE the attic?!?!? I understand this company has been in business for many years. How? They aren't serving needs of potential clients. After a v nice tech named Erik spent 35 minutes @ my house and I walked him up/down/all around, he handed me a piece of paper that said, "Walsh doesn't do repairs. Get a handy man." I called Walsh's Pest Control advisor because I thought I might have rodents in my attic/basement. Frank showed up on time, inspected the attic, the basement and around the house. He said that he doesn't see any traces of rats or mice droppings anywhere. So there is nothing for him to work on, but advice me to seal a couple of places to make the house more rodent proof. He sealed the holes/gaps for me as a favor and only charged me $50. He told me $100 originally but reduced to $50 because he said he didn't do that much work. The first pest control person who came a couple of days before Frank, said that he saw rat droppings, smelled rat urine in the attic and basement; he wanted $1,800 to do the job. I give Walsh's Pest Control 5 stars for their good work ethic, integrity and honesty. It's rare nowadays to find somebody honest. read more

Sad to see all the negative reviews surrounding a small and hardworking local business in Monrovia. I've only had great experiences with Frank and his staff. We had quite a large infestation of rats in our new house and they were entering from multiple entry points. Frank was able to find all the holes around the exterior of the house and plug them up. Within a couple of weeks and a few visits from Frank, we had caught 9 rats. He came back promptly when we knew we had had a 'catch' and was very flexible in finding a time that worked for us. He is always very friendly, professional and happy to answer questions and work towards solving the problem. Amber his office person is super attentive and on top of everything which makes getting in touch with the business very easy. I've been so happy with them that they now spray around the house every other month. I'm pretty sure that Frank is cheaper than most of the 'chain' pest companies and he doesn't lock you in a contract which I really like! I've seen a drastic difference in the amount of insects hanging around at night time and only a scarce spider here and there in the house - and we live up in the hills of Duarte! Another man named Bob came around to spray and check the traps today and he was very professional and gentlemanly which is very comforting as a women opening her door to a man she's never met. Not only did they handle that, they sealed our cellar and attic and we haven't had a rat since. They cleared out a ground wasps nest, and just last month took care of the moles. We got an estimate for rodent proofing from Frank Walsh (very good price with 6 month warranty) and contacted him a couple of weeks later to start the work. He said he could start the next week. I called him back to ask him to bring a contract that spelled out the scope of the work and the warranty and he said fine. The next day I get a call from Frank saying that it was "not within his abilities" to write up a contract and that he won't be taking our job. I can't imagine what kind of a professional could not write up a contract unless he didn't want to leave a binding paper trail for his work and warranty. Very shady. Used Walsh to eradicate ants and rats. Rats were gone in no time. Ants have been a real problem. I think the colony is living in one wall as Walsh has come out repeatedly on the drop of a dime to spray the house and set ant traps. There is nothing left alive in the perimeter or in the crawlspace as it has been saturated. Now we just need to see if the few remaining will be killed by the traps. read more
