WORST!!!! CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! I went in to GILROY CA to get dog food with my husband got in line in a hurry to get out of there. We were 5th in line and it took 25 min to get to the cashier named JOE (working the Garden cash register) who continued the bad service he was giving as we stood in line waiting. He started his Extremely AWFUL service by picking on three young women who looked 14, 12, & 9, by holding up a Bank of America EDD CARD up high and saying to the young sisters "You don't have any money in on your EDD CARD!" this man continued to embarrass them by proceeding, Saying they had to leave there basket and COULD NOT try Another CASHIER. He took his sweet time ringing our items up once we got to him (Mind you we only had dog food two hair products and hair clippers. I asked him if he could please ring us up quicker. Joes reply was "YOU can go to Self-Check-out and see if you could do it faster." Then he told me the total and when I went to hand him the CASH he would not acknowledge me. So I waved my hand simultaneously as I said "Sir" he then took his sweet time counting the money 3 more separate times before accepting it. The machine then declined my DEBT transaction (Just the 3 young ladies' before us) for the remainder of the balance. So I asked if he could please run it as Credit he asked for my IDENTIFICATION then examined it carefully as if trying to find a way not to allow my dogs food. Joe then typed every single key SLOWLY and finally hit enter! YAY My husband and I are almost out of here I CANT WAIT!!!!! WHOOT WHOOT! ....... NOT..... Joe then reaches his arm out as if it's so difficult and proceeds to look at my receipt for about 10 seconds then SLOWLY handed it to me. My husband and I took the receipt walked back to the main store to file a complaint and ran into a Manager named Sherry, who said "I was just walking over here to see what's going on? I don't know what's going on with him he just had his evaluation & now you're the third complaint in a row on this employee" Why are people who have bad attitudes LIKE JOE'S staying employed when there are People who are dying to have a job anywhere to support their families? I stopped by this Wal-Mart to spend my $100 gift card that I had. Since this Walmart had the market and the fresh fruit thing, I was hoping to spread my gift card to encompass many different items. So I found mostly everything that I was looking for. Everything was stocked on the shelves, the floors and the place in general was pretty clean. My only complaint was the selection of "hand soap" which seemed pretty lacking. My traumatic experience began in the cashier area. More specifically, the lack of cashiers on a Friday night. There were a total of 27 cashier stations at this store, not including the self checkout kiosks. So how many stations were manned that busy night? Four! Only four freaking cashiers to deal with the high volume Gilroy customer base! Unfortunately, I got one of the cashiers who usually doesn't work as a cashier and was an emergency fill-in. He attempted to apply my gift card credit to my purchases but it didn't work. He did it twice and both times were futile. All the while, the line of customers waiting behind me were giving me that "look." You know what I mean...the one which says, "I'm going to go get the firearm in my car if I have to wait in this damn line any longer!" Sensing the tension of the line, I went to the customer service area to hopefully find someone who knows how to apply my gift card to my purchase! Part 2 of my traumatic experience: I was the 4th person in line for customer service. As the line steadily grew larger and larger, there was a total of ONE customer service person behind the counter. The poor girl was stranded like Tom Hanks in Cast Away. She kept calling and begging for help from her superiors but no help ever came. As I had a lot of time on my hands, I got to chatting with my fellow customers in the stagnant customer service line. A lot of them were lining up to cash their checks and ironically, that day was a payday. After 20 minutes, someone finally came to help and I finally escaped my Wal-Mart experience, 45 minutes after first stepping in line. Who's to blame? Management, management, management. There is no excuse for not providing enough workers to deal with the influx of customers. I have never seen a shortage of cashiers at Target. It's a shame that such a nice looking and spacious Walmart can be run so poorly. Memo to the management of this store: experiences like this will definitely not make me come back to your store! I can't even see how your own employees even want to show up to your work knowing that they can be mistreated and left out to dry like this! Unless I'm being held against my will at gunpoint, there's absolutely no chance that I'll ever give this Walmart any of my future business. read more

coming to this place reminds me of why i'm glad there are no walmarts near where i live. it's so depressing in here. the employees look burned out, and it's messy. i came here on my way back from a holiday in so-cal. ok, yes, it was the biggest shopping day of the year, but it was night time, and there were very few shoppers around. my dad's gf wanted to see a super walmart, she had only heard stories about them. i had already experienced the wonder of such giganticness when i visited the midwest with my SO, so i didn't feel any need to come in. yes, it's huge. yes, it's slightly cheaper than most grocery/drug stores. but i'd much rather pay a few cents more to support target, or some other less evil corp. i went in the bathroom, and there was feces-smeared toilet paper ALL over the floors. like, everywhere. eeugh. they had enough employees working, there's no excuse for that nastiness. i finished my shopping, feeling like a dirty sell-out, and went to hunker down in the little mcdonalds in the corner of the store. the people around me bummed me out. i bummed me out. i was glad to return to civilization once the others were done shopping. read more

We drove down from San Jose for a little Sunday drive and shopping. My mom is disabled and must use the electric cart to get around the store. There was only one available, and we were grateful to get it and start our shopping. Halfway thru the store, the vehicle started making a loud and horrendous squeal. We stopped at the nearest cashier station to ask for help. The gal called for service help, we waited over fifteen minutes for someone to come and help us or at least bring us a replacement. Something... She looked miserable after ten minutes - knowing they weren't going to come. Her Supervisor showed up to tell her to take her break - we overheard her explaining to the mgr what our issue was...the manager shrugged and basically BLEW OFF the gal (who was so embarrassed) blew us off, didn't even come over to apologize or ACT like she cared a bit that we were stuck. After a good twenty minutes, we decided to squeak and squeal our way to the checkout, the thing was barely moving at this point. NO Employee came to help. We squeaked to the exit and the Employee there has THE GUTS to point to the cart parking and ask us to park it further away. SO the next customer could use it!!! We tried to explain (like it needed it?) that we would have liked to have finished our shopping, but the cart was defective..the squeak noise was deafening. This guy looked at us blankly...not HIS JOB to fix it!!! nobody took responsibility, or at least even apologized for the faulty equipment. This is not an optional "FUN" way to shop, she NEEDS this cart to get around. It was the worst experience we've ever had at a Walmart, we won't be back. OH he told me all graciously it would be "okay" to pull up to let her get into the car.. wow, she's visibly and plainly disabled man..how ELSE did you expect me to get her to the car? as always Walmart has bad service and unhelpful personal. The Walmart in Gilroy was packed with many people standing in line at the check out. It took a customer to go get management to open another check stand and when they did, the person just stood there and did not ask anyone to come to her line. This all has to do with training and not personal. If they had better training this would not happen. Just look at Trader Joe's. You never see more than 2 people in line with out another check out opening. Come on Walmart train your people. read more

I've been to other Supercenters outside of California, and they're better with fully stocked items, wider aisles, and faster service. But this Walmart is pretty good for a California store. It sucks we have to put up with substandard treatment just because it's in California. In the Midwest, they will lick the snow off your feet if it will make you a satsified customer. All kidding aside, the groceries are super cheap when you don't have a coupon or loss leader at Safeway or some other store. The lines aren't that bad for a Walmart. The bathrooms are nasty even though they seem to close them every 20 minutes for cleaning. The store could be a bit better stocked, but it's better than many Safeways. On average, each item is around 10-20% cheaper than at Safeway with club card. Back before the recession, it was 30+% cheaper on a lot of items. When the cart gets full, the savings add up even at 10%. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. Came in for a tire repair they said it would take an hour and it took 2. There was only 1 car in front of us. I can't believe how bad the service is here. After much research i am not a wal*mart hater. I don't find people who shop at Target any better and they kid themselves thinking it's more ethical. That said I hate going here. I liked the old wal*mart before it became a monster wal*mart. I am sure the novelty is awesome for people who don't live here but I wish we never switched over. It also left an old ugly EMPTY wal*mart for years now *tisk-tisk* The Staff is unhelpful and not friendly. I get cut off my not only customers but also the people who work there. They stock at crappy times but the middle of the night is a nightmare! They block entire aisles so you may as well skip getting a cart unless you plan on leaving it a lot! The concrete floor and high ceilings remind me of Costco- if I want to warehouse shop I will go there! I find the whole place to be stressful! Takes forever just to grab an item so i don't bother. i would rather spend more money and go to Target. Oh and the self checkouts suck- IF they are open and not packed, the error out constantly. I came here to cash my payroll check. I have cashed payroll and tax checks here in the past with no problem. I was denied because of Certegy, which is some kind of company that runs your SSN. I was given a # to call to find out why my check would not be cashed. I called the number and got an automated response. It could not tell me why my check was denied except that by the amount of the check, they considered it a risk. I was not able to speak to a live person. I already cannot stand Walmart and only came here to cash a check. Now I know I will never return to this POS corporation. read more

For those of us that have hectic schedules and work extremely odd hours depending on the situations of the week, having a 24 hour Walmart is pretty much a godsend. I drive up here probably at least once every two weeks to do all my shopping anytime I need shopping after midnight. They always seem fully stocked which is good enough for me. The only slight knock on this place is I have seen the lines get extremely long and they only having one or two cashiers working. Seems kind of peculiar, why not just open up the automatic ones where the customer can ring themselves up? Besides that I think this place is absolutely awesome. read more

Made multiple calls to this site to ask about inventory. Was hung up on almost each time. I was able to reach someone who was willing to transfer me to the proper department, only to be put on hold for a solid ten minutes. I reached another representative who answered and said she was going to transfer me. She put me on hold, my call was picked up by someone else who hung up on me again. This Walmart closes at midnight but at 11:30 they lock the doors and refuse to let anybody in. People inside the store before 11:30 are told the store is closed and to start heading up to the cash registers. People were waiting outside to talk to manager because the store still had 30 minutes. Terrible.. But it's Walmart. The company in general is not good. They don't pay their employees enough, they assign just under 40 hours to avoid giving them benefits. The store is always messy and out of order and the lines are outrageous. I avoid all walmarts at all costs. I would rather pay a little more at target (which probably ends up being the same prices I would pay at Walmart when I use my REDCARD and the cartwheel app) than go here. Ugh... Why is this Wal-Mart the epitome of all Wal-Mart stereo types! Messy, Dirty and falling apart. Carts don't roll right, Bathroom locks are falling off, floor staff are not helpful at all. However some of the supervising staff are really nice and the bakery staff was very friendly and helpful when we needed a last minute cake at work. Pharmacy can also be helpful. Saturday june30, 6:30 am. Went to check out not one register was open...I asked employee for help she said you have to use self check out. Ok that's fine for a few items but I ended spending over 200.00 as I was finishing checking myself out another employee walks by so I mentioned it to her she said oh checkstand 14 is open but she don't have the light on...she's hiding!! Almost every isle had boxes blocking the way for restocking they didn't even clear a path husband and I were moving boxes to get through!Worst customer service ever! Unfortunately, I'll only return here because it's the only Walmart in the area (aside from Milpitas) to sell ammo. The customer service was awful and not one of the employees who don a badge proclaiming, "Proud To Serve" appear proud to do anything. Wal-mart is Wal-mart. You get what you pay for. I go there because I am a single mom of 3 and I have to make every dollar stretch. It's amazing how cheap clothes, shoes and food is!! My only warning to my fellow shoppers is if you do go in the evening prepare to basically be on your own. Most of the employees do not speak/understand English. This store and a lot of Walmart stores have some of the worst employees I've ever met in retail and I've worked in retail for over 17 years. You have to search for employees, there is never the right prices on things, and because of the piles under scanners and the employees unwillingness to take care of it during their shift...we no longer have the option to make sure of the items price. The lock up everything from underwear to deodorant and all I'm waiting for is them to start having armed escorts for their shoppers. Dirty as can be stores, and even worse in the bathroom. I hate shopping at night also because there never seems to be any managers that know what their job entails let alone what customer service is and forget returning anything cause they close customer service like we won't need to do returns after 9pm. Don't recommend going anytime you don't have an hour to wait in line. read more

This was my first time using the pick up order and it was horrible. I just ordered bubble wrap and tape and it took so long for my order to be ready. First on the app it stated it would be ready by noon and I ordered it around 11 o'clock. But when I got there at 1 they said it wasn't going to be ready until 4, and I said it's just bubble wrap and tape. Then they told me to come back in an hour and it would be ready. So I did a little more shopping and came back at 3 a whole 2 hours later. I called again asking for my order then I was told to go inside and go to the tower, and my order would be there. So I went inside put in the given information, but yet again my order wasn't ready. So we called for assistance on the machine several times, but no one came. So we went to customer service and then finally after waiting for about 10 minutes, an employee came and ran my order through the system. She said someone had picked it up. When no one did. Then an employee came and gave us our order. She was rude and annoyed that she had to bring us our order when that's her job. Overall it was a bad experience and I could have just gone in to the store to get it myself, but I already paid for it. read more

This place sucks. They have a bunch of employees but none of them are doing any work to benefit the customer. EVER. In the last two months that I have lived here they have completely rearranged the whole store so that customers can't find anything. It wasn't done to make things easier to find either. The store is set up in a way where you can walk for a very long time and never find what you need. Good luck finding an employee to help you. They avoid customers at all costs. Yesterday I went in and had to buy a heavy product, something that needed to stay in the cart and get scanned. Of course there were only two actual checkers working at three pm so their lines were twenty people long. I needed to get home so I had to choose self checkout. I am SO against self checkout! Walmart makes HUGE profits and the least they can do is provide customer service(and JOBS to actual people! They should provide a discount to people who use self checkout because it is saving them A LOT of money!Anyway since I never use self checkout I lifted the heavy item onto the conveyor belt so I could scan it. Conveyor belt doesn't work and I didn't realize there was a hand held scanner available. Ugh! Then I scan ONE package of about three hundred sheets of copy paper. It rings up as $30.00! Are you kidding me? So then I have to wait for the extremely lazy woman who is supposed to be "monitoring" self checkout but is really off chatting with a co worker. When she approaches me she's says absolutely nothing, and NEVER said a word to me through the whole transaction before walking away!!!!!! She never spoke! I think that is disgusting, inhuman, and unbelievable! How do you completely ignore another human? Then when I got home with the items I bought, I found that they were defective and needed to return them. We arrived around 845 and were told that customer service is closed. Ummmmm why? You are open until midnight and you have carts and carts and carts of returned items blocking customer service. Maybe have some of your employees put shit back on the shelves and assist your customers???? I let the employee know that I have been trying to return one particular item for at least five visits to Walmart and they are even "closed" at other times of the day. I also expressed that it's a very far drive for us and we have come back repeatedly. She tried to call a manager to help me... but guess what we response we got- "oh the manager is on break"..... of course they are for some reason the employee took pity on me and took me to the returns area to return my items but she was in a hurry because she kept telling me she was going to get in trouble for doing it. It felt like we were committing a crime or something!!!!! I didn't sleep the whole night last night wondering if she got in trouble because she actually helped a customer! I think it is disgusting that they have employees trained to complete returns but clearly threaten them with corrective action if they use their skills. This place is so awful! Something else I hate is the way they post an employee at the door to "scan" your receipt and verify whether you paid for everything. They treat customers like criminals and the person doing that job doesn't really verify anything. All they do is scan your receipt and then move on. Waste of a job!
